The Humble Daisy

Just spent a week at the beautiful Humble Daisy with my family and dog.

Mary-Rose had the cottage so cosy and welcoming for us arriving, with fresh flowers, candles, music and a nice bottle of wine! The area is so peaceful and remote, a short walk down the lane is Lough derg, where there is a little boat for guests to use. We did travel to Galway city a couple of days, Adare, and the County Clare coastline too which are all stunning. It does take at least an hour to get to these places, so bear that in mind. The nearest village is Woodford, which is about 10mins drive and Portumna town is approx 20mins drive. We really enjoyed our week and Mary-Rose was an excellent host, our children loved the Halloween treats too, many thanks!

We loved everything about The Humble Daisy.

The cottage is set out beautifully, and although there were only 4 of us there is more than enough space for 6. It's an amazing place to unwind. It is remote and quiet which suited us; but we were able to explore the beautiful countryside around. The hosts are wonderful, let us get on, but available to help us if and whenever we needed it. Absolutely stunning!

We recently stayed at The Humble Daisy for a week.

It is the most beautiful cottage. Tastefully restored, comfortable and has everything you need. Set in beautiful countryside, very peaceful with lovely views of the lough at the end of the lane. Mary Rose was very welcoming and also checked on us once during our stay to make sure all was good. We loved our holiday and would definitely recommend The Humble Daisy.

We spent 2 weeks at the humble Daisy.

Everything great from start to finish with friendly hosts. Daisy is actually bigger inside than the pics depict. Lovely and quiet with such a fresh feeling close to the Lough.

This property is quite simply stunning.

The owner was lovely and welcoming and the cottage was beautiful inside and out. It was set in a lovely quiet location which is just what we wanted. We would highly recommend this cottage if you want peace and tranquility. It was a short drive to the local towns and right next to Lough Derg.

Your warmth and thoughtfulness made us feel at home from the moment we arrived, and we truly appreciate the care you’ve put into making the cottage such a special place. You have carved a magical haven. Thank you again for giving us a setting where three generations could share laughter, rest, and memories we’ll carry for years to come.

A wonderful hideaway near lake.

House is fantastic, very homely and welcoming with lovely touches here and there. Host, Mary Rose lovely, friendly and helpful, couldn’t of done more for us.. I would highly recommend and stay here…

First class.

The owners were very welcoming and provided a first class holiday home with every comfort needed. We enjoyed a very relaxing break and have no hesitation in recommending the Humble Daisy.

The property is spacious and gracious.

The interior is tastefully furnished with a roomy, fully equipped modern kitchen and utilities and three on suite bedrooms with choice of bath or shower. There are seating areas for quiet occupations as well as a comfortable communal drawing room. Outdoors there are various seating areas for sunshine or shade and a woodshed which boasted a couple of active barn swallow nests during our stay. Adding to the charm of the place (not that it needs) there are a couple of lovely donkeys - Eeyore and Poppy in the adjoining field. The owner is available and friendly but never intrusive with tourist info readily available.

The Humble Daisy is a magical place.

For the first time in my life I was genuinely sad to be leaving a place to go home. From the moment we arrived to find fresh flowers in every room and soft music playing to the day we left when Mary Rose popped by to make sure we were happy with everything, our stay was wonderful. The house is bigger than it looks and beautifully appointed. The gardens are lovely, providing plenty of space for Castor, our German Pointer, to run around and say hello to the donkeys next door. Lough Derg is literally 100m away down the uber-quiet lane and allows for lovely peaceful walks along the lake shore. The cottage is secluded, but the town of Portumna is a short drive away and has everything you could want - 2 supermarkets, a butcher, pubs, a vet, a health centre, golf club, tennis club and, obviously, a castle. Highly recommended, and we look forward to coming back.

The Humble Daisy is the most beautiful cottage we have ever stayed in when visiting Ireland, both inside and out were beautifully maintained and tastefully decorated.

Mary Rose was a lovely host and the cottage was beautifully decorated, with extra bonus points for the wonderful Christmas decorations. The showers were powerful and hot, the beds super comfy and the sitting room with the open fire was the perfect place to relax in the evening. I'm a big fan of cooking when on holiday and the kitchen had all the basic utensils and pots you need if you want to cook whilst you are away although the electric hob takes a bit of getting used to if you haven't used one for a while. There were some basics like tea, coffee (including a Nespresso machine and a cafetiere), oil and vinegar, salt and pepper and a few herbs. Mary Rose also left a welcome bottle of wine which was much appreciated. Further afield we went for some amazing walks in the hills and forests around the lough and would totally recommend it to anyone who wants a beautiful cottage to relax in for a few days.

We spent two lovely and relaxing weeks in wonderful surroundings.

The Humble Daisy is a lovely house to live in an Mary Rose is an attentive host. We were welcomed with soft music, candlelight and a botle of red wine. We felt at home from the very beginning. The pubs in Woodford and espacially Terryglass spoiled us with good, fresh beer and a typical atmosphere. We were glad to be there.

What a perfect getaway in the most beautiful cottage!

Five star very comfortable accommodation located in a quiet, scenic area which is driving distance to all amenities. Lovely walks, access to the lake, peaceful surroundings and friendly hosts made our holiday one to remember... highly recommended! Thank you, Mary Rose & Oliver.

Humble Daisy is a beautiful cottage situated in a quiet lane not far from the loch.

It's beautifully kept and the owners have provided pretty much everything you need. As hosts they are amazing and more than helpful. We had a fantastic week and will be back.

The cottage is nestled in truely calming countryside and was well equipped for our needs. The beds were also extremely comfortable!. Mary Rose is an amazing host and took real pride in the presentation of the cottage, with fresh flowers, wine and music on arrival. The use of the boat to take on Loch Derg was a real bonus!. Huge thanks to Ella for taking us on a trip around the loch. We would highly recomend a stay at the Humble Daisy.

Beautiful cottage quiet shopping and restaurant are not far away .

The house is clean ,comfortable and has most everything you need. Rose and Oliver are very nice and easy to reach .I would come back anytime.

This cottage is just beautiful.

It’s one of the best I have stayed in over the years. Mary-Rose is a wonderful host, she was really helpful, very kind and the home is gorgeous. Really peaceful location with stunning sun rises and sun sets over the lake which can been seen a short walk down the lane. It made the first and final dog walks of the day memorable. I will definitely be back and can’t imagine booking anywhere else in south west Ireland

The cottage itself is very well appointed and extremely charming with its thatched roof and rural location amid working farms. You couldn't ask for a more perfect place to stay in this part of Ireland! We highly recommend The Humble Daisy and would love to return one day!

The Humble Daisy is a really beautiful, stunning property both inside and out.

The quaint outside belies the modern, but sympathetically restored, interior and it has everything that you could want in a self catering cottage. An added bonus is the huge field just down the lane, ( the lane is a cul de sac so pretty safe), that belongs to the owners, where the dogs could run free. It’s next to the lake so they could also paddle and swim and they thought it was heaven! There’s a rowing boat which is shared between The Humble Daisy and the property next door. The owner is absolutely lovely, and nothing was too much trouble. A really perfect, peaceful place in the country! Highly recommend.

It has all the facilities that were needed to give the most enjoyable, peaceful and relaxing week that we could have wanted.

Beautiful cottage in a beautiful location.

Mary Rose was so helpful too. We arrived very late and she was there to ensure we found the cottage. She also offered to get us some basic groceries, so we had what we needed for breakfast on our first morning. Would definitely recommend!

We had a great stay in the humble daisy whilst visiting family in the area.

The Humble Daisy is a very welcoming and homely place which I would recommend to anyone. The only thing I would change would be the shower in the downstairs bathroom next to the kitchen. If we are in the area again we would definitely consider using this beautiful cottage again.

There is nothing ‘humble’ about The Humble Daisy, it is just beautiful.

Peace, quiet and pure tranquility! A lovely few minutes walk to the lake, lots of very quiet lanes to explore by foot or in the car - by the owners rowing boat if you are feeling a little more adventurous! The cottage is well equipped, immaculately clean and very spacious; with lots of outside space for sitting, reading and playing - table tennis and football goals in the garden. There is also an enclosed patio to the rear with patio seating, good for the dog. All the bedrooms and bathrooms are very spacious, the kitchen and dining area is lovely . The utility room with the washing machine and dryer is great. Living room cost and comfortable. Wi-if is good. You do need a car, the nearest local shop and pub is a couple of miles, but there is a big supermarket 15 minutes drive in Portumna (Aldi), with other shops like chemists etc. plus a lovely lake swimming area, boats and a castle. There are many other smaller towns and villages around the lake. We loved the drive around the whole lake over a full day exploring the smaller lake access areas, just follow the brown tourist signs. A lovely week in s beautiful cottage!

The Humble Daisy is a delightful traditional cottage, bursting with charm!

It’s decorated and equipped to a very high standard as well as being in an extremely peaceful location. If you are after a quiet, tranquil restful break then this is the place for you. We were fortunate to have two beautiful warm sunny weeks, which made the evening walks quite something!

The house was beautiful, spotlessly clean and had everything you could want for a stay.

Mary Rose, the owner, was so friendly and helpful. The location is beautiful, lovely gardens and away from the world. Would recommend doing the workhouse tour in nearby Portumna. Walsh's pub in Woodford has lovely food and friendly staff. Would recommend as a great getaway from busy life. Just be aware that you do need to drive if you want to get to shops/restaurants etc but worth it for the peace and quiet.

A fabulous cottage in a very quiet area.

Cottage very spacious and extremely clean.

All the requirements for crockery,utensils, and white goods were in place. Met the owner on several occasions and found her to be very helpful and friendly. We would return as is a very peaceful and pleasant stay.

We couldn't have asked for more - and to be invited in for a nightcap late on a Friday evening when we'd (brilliantly!) locked ourselves out sums up her kindness and great hospitality.

Beautiful inside and out, well equipped with all you need for a pleasant stay. Mary Rose and Oliver are on hand for any assistance you might need and are only to glad to make your stay as perfect as possible. I would highly recommend this cottage to anyone looking for peace and quiet in lovely surroundings, but with all amenities still within easy reach. You will not be disappointed.

Cosy Autumn Hideaway!

Tucked down a little country lane we found The Humble Daisy, a haven of warmth and charm! Tired and weary after a long drive, we were met by the owner, Mary Rose, who welcomed us inside to a crackling log fire and a bottle of wine ! Bliss! The thatched cottage has been beautifully and lovingly restored by the owners to an exceptional high standard. The bedrooms are very spacious, the kitchen open and airy with all amenities (loved the Nespresso machine for morning coffee!). The living room has been kept in the tradition style, white curved walls and wood burning fire. Little details like scented candle, flowers, books and DVD’s added a special touch. Our dogs, Twiggy & Castro loved their daily walks 2 minutes down the lane, past the donkeys! to the Lough, or in the owners fields behind the Cottage. When we did tear ourselves away, we visited Portumna Castle and the Irish Workhouse Centre, both highly recommend, and took a trip to nearby Terryglass for a leisurely lunch in the Derg Inn. But most evenings we could not wait to get back and curl up, with our dogs and a good book by the log fire. Mary Rose, Oliver, Louis and Ella were so warm, welcoming and friendly, and could not have been more helpful. Thank you for a wonderful stress free week, we will return!

Fantastic cottage, full of character and in a beautiful location.

The owners could not have been more welcoming. The cottage is 100 yards from Lough Derg in a location that feels off the beaten track. The 'Humble Daisy' makes for a superb base to explore this area. It's a 20 minute drive to Portumna and its facilities like shops and about a 40 minute drive to Killaloe which is very pretty. Overall, this is a great area for outdoor activities - walking, fishing, boating etc. There aren't many wet weather activities nearby though we would certainly recommend the Irish Workhouse Experience in Portumna.

I've read all the reviews from previous vacationers who have stayed at The Humble Daisy.

....They all have had a wonderful time and enjoyed the fantastic hospitality shown by Mary Rose( the owner)...The fire lit and a bottle of red on arrival....Rare !! The spacious warm cosy so well equipped cottage..understated by the advertised description..also very rare. if you've read " Swallows and Amazons " then this is your place,the tranquil silence and a slow walk down the lane you arrive on the edge of Lake Derg, meet the friendly donkeys,and maybe take the boat out for a spin which is moored up in it's own boat shed in the same field as the donkeys,each step down the lane takes you back in time. We both thoroughly enjoyed our stay,Beau the Rottie loved his time there,we were lucky with the weather but hey,if not, pop some logs on the fire and read a good book. Finally,I was tempted not to want to tell anyone about this piece of heaven..shear selfishness on my part but I would be doing Mary Rose a complete injustice, so, if you like empty roads ,wonderful friendly people,views to die for,then book this place before you die,take a telescope for the dark night sky and an easel and paints if you are that way inclined. Thank You Mary Rose,you will see us again.

The cottage was lovely, in tranquil surroundings.

Very spacious. Well equipped and comfortable. The owner was on hand if needed, with plenty of local information. The workhouse in Portumna is well worth a visit, fascinating place. Killaloe has a bakery with unbelievably tasty muffins that are a must. A great choice of holiday let.

The Humble Daisy is a gorgeous cottage in a very peaceful location.

The owners are lovely people who we found to be very hospitable and eager to be of assistance, without being intrusive. Mary-Rose, her husband Oliver and their 2 children Ella and Louis are a lovely friendly family. We would highly recommend this cottage and the entire location. Sykes did a great job of answering every question that we had.

The website was easy to use and everyone that assisted us was kind and quick to respond. The Humble Daisy was one of the best rentals that we've ever stayed in and I would definitely recommend it to others.
