Cavan Hill Cottage was a perfect place, we loved the peace and quiet and it proved to be a good home base for exploring western Ireland.

We would rent it again without hesitation. One point of note for other renters, Cavan Hill Cottage is part of a working farm. The cottage is in very close proximity to other utility farm buildings and the owners home. This didn't bother us, in fact, we loved the tranquil country setting, comfortable cottage, and I personally felt right at home, as I grew up on a farm. You may want to mention this in your listing for those looking for a bit more distance between their rental and working farm conditions.

Yes, it is out in the sticks, so be prepared for driving.

There was everything there we required, the owners live next door and are so welcoming and helpful. So easy to get to Castlebar, Galway and Roscommon from there, so a good place to base yourself.

I'm just back from spending 3 nights in this haven.

This was the ideal home away from home for me - a perfect representation of irish country life at it's best. The house was a steal for such a low price - everything was clean (this was important for me), tidy and cosy and had everything I needed. The sheep (and baby lambs), cattle and dogs made it really special. The owners couldn't have been nicer while still respecting privacy. I needed to step outside of my routine- this was the perfect escape. 5* I would highly recommend to anyone wanting a traditional irish countryside experience. I will definitely return!

The property was quite nice cosy and warm, but there were a few issues, the microwave was dirty and rusty, the oven hob was very old fashioned and took ages to heat up, the toaster was small and dirty.

The beds were very soft and not very comfortable. There was mould in one of the shower units and the shower didn't work very well (en suite) the main shower was adequate. There was a basin in the sink which was worn old and dirty. Bed linen didn't seem very clean and there were cob webs and dead flies on the window sills. Out the back door the guttering's were leaking and it was muddy and wet, there was no covering or clean dry place to sit or walk outside. There were lots of mouse traps to be seen thankfully didn't see any mice whilst there ! Bit disappointing that the hosts did not pop round to ask if we were comfortable, kept a big distance. Nice cottage but lots of room for improvement.

All ok except: The details re the cottage say that there is a DVD available.

There was no DVD available. The toilet bowl in the main shower room was broken where it is attached to the floor and therefore unstable. Settee really needs replacing, very uncomfortable.

Loved our stay, we have stayed before and would stay again.

Just a shame about the poor shower facilities.

The property was perfect for what we needed as we were out walking most days.

The showers were not the best and the beds not the most comfortable but we managed. We had an issue with a light bulb and one of the showers but the owner responded really quickly to sort out. Perfect location for exploring Galway and Mayo. Would definitely recommend for the price.

Lovely comfy little cottage in a quiet spot on a farm at the end of the track.

The owners were very friendly, cheerful and helpful. The cottage is handy for Cong, Westport, Galway and Castebar amongst many other places of interest.

Reasonably priced, Cavan Hill Cottage is roomy, clean and comfortable.

The house is plentifully supplied, (decent pots/pans, cutlery/crockery, white goods and more) for a comfy stay. Peaceful, (typically Irish) location only 2 miles from Balinrobe with all the shops/supermarkets you need, and nicely situated for your day trips etc. The owners are friendly and helpful and I fully intend to stay here again.

The house is tidy and with good facilities.

It's In a quiet country place, not very far from the town with supermarkets, pubs and cafes The owner is friendly and considerate, he kept us stocked with wood for the fire. We had an enjoyable break there.

Instructions for reaching the property need to be clearer.

For example, to know that Convent Road start in the middle of town and heads South past the schools would be helpful.

This property needs to cleaned up and decorated to a more modern standard and the plumbing system needs to be checked out, shower broke of, water was either scalding or freezing.

Couldn't recommend it.

It is very strange that there was no one who received you and who gave some explanation.

In fact, we did not speak to anyone during the whole week.

This is a great base for travelling to Cong, Ashford Castle, Westport and Galway all within 40 minutes drive or less.

Great lakes, lough and rivers which my husband enjoyed kayaking along. The trout and salmon were jumping out of the water. We went to Achill Island and my husband ran the 26.2 mile greenway between Westport and Achill sound. My elderly mum came with us and because the cottage is all on one floor she was able to get around great. We loved the multistove fuel fire and the wonderful smell of the turf.
