Description

The Farmhouse is a delightful farm stay resting on the outskirts of New Mills, Derbyshire.

Perfect for families and friends seeking a peaceful escape, this well-appointed property boasts a toasty woodburning stove, countryside views and allows pets, making it a tranquil base for exploring the Peak District and beyond.

Drive slowly down the quiet lane, where the landscape begins to unfold around you, revealing sweeping countryside views in every direction.

As you approach The Farmhouse, the peaceful setting takes hold, with rolling hills, mature greenery, and the gentle cluck of chickens from their nearby enclosure adding to the rural charm.

Unlock the gate, pass the greenhouse, and pull into the parking area, where there’s space for two cars.

The front garden is a tranquil spot, with a pond nestled among the planting and patio furniture set out in the summer months for alfresco breakfasts or evening drinks.

Step through the farmhouse door and into the tiled hallway, where original flagstones stretch beneath your feet, setting the tone for the character that continues throughout.

A step up leads to the utility room and cloakroom, a practical space for drying boots and paws, complete with a dog treat station for your four-legged companions.

The kitchen is a warm and welcoming hub, styled with exposed brickwork and a traditional AGA, perfect for preparing hearty meals with fresh eggs from the resident hens.

The dining table offers a sociable space to gather and plan the next day’s adventures.

The sitting room invites you to unwind, with two large sofas positioned around an exposed brick fireplace and woodburning stove.

Hardwood floors add warmth, and double doors open out to the patio, framing uninterrupted views of the surrounding hills.

A TV provides entertainment for relaxed evenings in, whether you're watching a film or catching up on your favourite series.

Upstairs, the carpeted landing leads to three bedrooms, each with countryside views and soft furnishings.

The master bedroom is a spacious retreat, featuring a king-size bed, fitted wardrobes, and a generous en-suite with a large walk-in shower and scenic outlook.

A second bedroom offers a double bed and plenty of space to relax, while the third is currently set with a single bed, making it ideal for flexible group stays.

Outside, the garden is a peaceful place to enjoy the fresh air, with the gentle ripple of the pond adding to the rural charm.

From the doorstep, a network of walking trails leads out into the hills, offering endless opportunities to explore the Peak District on foot.

For days out, Buxton is within easy reach, where you can stroll through the Pavilion Gardens, admire the Georgian architecture of Buxton Crescent, and venture underground at Poole’s Cavern.

Castleton offers a dramatic setting for adventure, with Peveril Castle perched above the village, the echoing chambers of Peak Cavern waiting to be explored, and the winding beauty of Winnats Pass drawing walkers and photographers alike.

In Hayfield, you’ll find access to Kinder Scout, the highest point in the Peak District, alongside independent cafés and the peaceful Sett Valley Trail.

The Farmhouse is a spacious and scenic base for discovering the best of Derbyshire’s countryside.

Lovely spacious and comfortable cottage with a cosy woodburner in a fantastic location overlooking the valley and New Mills.

Only reason I wouldn't give 5 stars was the slightly disappointing cooking facilities. Otherwise everything else was spot on.

Our second visit, most enjoyable again.

The Farmhouse is spacious, clean, comfortable and well equipped, it has sweeping countryside views and lots of good walks. Many thanks. Dave, Carol, Dan and Daisy.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this beautiful property.

It was clean, tidy and well equipped. The property was comfortable and had all the amities one would like. I wouldn't recommend the walk you suggest to get to the pub, not suitable. Took our mum (aged 87) that way and it was full of brambles and had a stile at the end which we had to get her over. The pub we could definite recommend (Pack Horse Inn). Also the Cheese Wheel at Torr Vale, as suggested, didn't seem to have many cheeses when we went there. Went to the cheese shop in Hartington, much better. Lovely National Trust places around the area and also recommend Jodrell Bank, very interesting.
