Brightley Mill Barn

Brightley Mill Barn was exceptional.

We had a fabulous week there in April and although we were very lucky with the glorious weather, we cannot understate how beautiful the house is, and the surrounding gardens. It was perfect, enjoying a glass or two of wine on the patio, watching the sun go down and listening to the river and the wildlife. The accommodation has everything, including fully equipped kitchen, lovely big bathroom and a very comfortable bed. Mandy and Nick were very attentive hosts, who made sure we had everything we needed, etc. We will be returning!

A stunning barn conversion in a perfect location.

Lovely and cosy, beautifully furnished and like a home from home. Wonderfully kind hosts too making it one of our best stays in Devon. We’ll definitely return. 100% recommendation.

This delightful, modern, spacious, warm and well equipped holiday 'cottage' is probably as close to perfection as it is possible to get.

Its quiet country location is well located for walks on Dartmoor and has easy access to both the coasts of Devon and Cornwall; also it is just a short drive into Oakhampton. The friendly owners live on the peaceful, neat and tidy campus and so are available for advice if needed but otherwise will leave you in peace to enjoy your stay. For visitors who prefer quieter but colder months the cottage is very well insulated with a modern efficient heating system and a log burning stove.

We had a lovely two week stay at this property, which was great in every respect.

Set down a country lane, just 5-10 mins from centre of Okehampton by car, this property met all our needs with everything provided, and to a really good standard. Plenty of guidebooks are provided for the local area and beyond. The Barn itself is adjacent to a large garden and woodland, with a river flowing to one side, just wonderful! The owners, Mandy and Nick are both lovely people, with lots of advice, if needed, and made sure our stay was perfect. I can't even bring myself to blame them for the weather... :-)

This is a superb property in a pretty little complex with everything you could ask for to make your stay an extremely pleasant one.

Ideally situated in the outskirts of Okehampton it is ideally placed for exploring the Dartmoor area and beyond. Without doubt it is one of the best self catering cottages we have ever stayed in with hosts who are keen to see that every wish is catered for.

Very well presented property.

Very clean and good natural light. Parking directly outside property which is always helpful. Owners helpful and unobtrusive. TV could benefit from a sound bar, to improve sound quality in such a large space. A small business operates on site which involves weekday deliveries, but not a problem. Walks on the owners grounds with a fast flowing river, which is beautiful. Good longer walks in nearby woods. Many birds to watch on feeders and in trees. Owls at night too! Wonderful.

Brightly Barn was an absolute joy!

Mandy and her husband Nick were so friendly and inviting. Their dog Wilson was great fun too. We would whole heartedly recommend Brightley Barn to anyone who would be visiting the greater Exeter area.

Spotlessly clean with quality fixtures and furnishings. Good parking and delightful garden to explore. Ideal place to return to after a day spent on the moors, in the forest or visiting the town/villages. Very friendly hosts.

A lovely barn conversion, only 5 minutes from the A30, so it’s a great location to explore all parts of Devon and into Cornwall.

The barn has everything you will need, is comfy and is the place to be if you need to unwind. At night there are no street lights, no light pollution and no traffic…total bliss. Mandy and Nick are great hosts, nothing is too much effort and they are always available should you need any help or assistance. All in all a great stay……thank you

Wow, what a fantastic property.

The pictures on Sykes website do not do it justice. Very clean, very well equipped and the design of the property works really well. Very nice owners who live behind the property who are very friendly and helpful but not intrusive. It was a lengthy journey for us, 5 hrs plus, but if we decide to come back to this part of Devon again we wouldn’t hesitate in booking Brightley Mill Barn, can’t fault it in any way.

The property was well equipped and all was clearly explained. Location was good and the road was quiet. We had no problem with disturbance or noise from the adjacent business and parking was good and easy. The upside down design of the barn worked well and we would generally recommend it as a place to stay with no major problems and a helpful and friendly but unintrusive host

It is in a good location for visiting many areas in Devon and Cornwall. The owners are on site and very friendly and helpful. We had a lovely holiday and would highly recommend it.

The Barn had everything you needed, was light and airy with a bathroom to die for. The owners were delightful and contributed (together with the weather) to a very pleasant week’s break.

We were given a very warm welcome by the owners, and we were well pleased with the quality of the furniture and fittings, there was a good TV and a lovely library of books to read.

The gardens were very peaceful, and the patio was very pleasant to relax on with the sound of the stream nearby.

We had a wonderful stay at Brightley Mill Barn and have booked to return next year.

The barn was spotlessly clean, well provisioned and very comfortable. The bathroom was a highlight of our stay as was the large and airy living space, filled with lovely tulips for our Spring stay. Great thought has gone into the conversion and it is tastefully decorated and warm throughout.The kitchen has quality equipment and the fridge, though small did have a freezer section in it which was very adequate for our needs.The parking was large and easy. The grounds leading to the weir are superb and the seating area outside is perfect.The owners are charming and made us feel very welcome. All in all this cottage is a winner!

My Dad and I visited Brightly Barn for a relaxing escape and that’s exactly what we got.

The barn is beautifully designed, with the most wonderful bathroom, and perfect for a restful getaway. We loved exploring the local woods and walking by the river, and had a great time at Meldon Reservoir. Thank you for a great stay, we really appreciate it.

It was spotlessly clean and finished to a really high standard. It was warm, comfortable and contained everything that we needed. There were a couple of extra bonuses, fresh eggs, milk and freshly cut flowers. The owners were attentive but not intrusive. The location was also very convenient. Finally, the private walk down to the ruined mill was the cherry on the cake! We would definitely return again.

Beautiful cottage, not far from Okehampton but far enough to be rural.

Landscaped grounds next to a river. Interior was warm, very well appointed and tastefully decorated with a gorgeous bathroom.

The barn conversion was amazing and the facilities were 5* would highly recommend this cottage to anyone.

The cottage was in the perfect place to do stuff all over devon and even venture into cornwall. The couple who own the property are super lovely and were super supportive if we needed anything, also tbe barn was stocked with laundry powder and dishwasher tablets and all the essentials you could need was super good. 100% luxury stay in a lovely house.

We have stayed in a number of Sykes cottages and this one was of a very high standard.

The overall decor was exceptional and the interior design was extremely good. It was a pleasure to have this cottage as our base and to travel to different parts of Devon. The area around the cottage was extremely quiet apart from the owls hooting at night. The owners were lovely and I cannot wait to visit again. 5 stars....

The oroperty is fitted out to a remarkable degree and is both spacious and extremely comfortable. The owners are more than helpful in every respect and are there if needed. I would thoroughly recommend this property. We had a great week despite the terrible weather. The barn is a warm and homely place to return to in the evening.

This cottage was beautiful, it was a perfect place for us as a family.

The owners were incredibly friendly and helpful. The cottage was located for easy access to destinations like Tintagel, Looe, Plymouth. The cottage is finished to a high spec, with fabulous furnishings and lovely finishing touches like fresh flowers from the owners garden.

When our trip to France was cancelled, we thought our chance of a holiday this year was over- we were wrong!

Brightley Mill Barn is an exceptional property and the owners, Mandy and Nick, were really friendly and very helpful.

I travel around the UK and the rest of the World extensively for work and leisure and I can honestly say this is one of the best places I have stayed. For a family holiday it was perfect. Key collection is really convenient via a key safe system that the owners tell you the combination for on the day. There is parking 2 meters from the front door so really convenient for getting all that food shopping into the property (there is a Waitrose, Coop and Lidl all nearby). The barn conversion is brilliant - very well appointed to a high standard and we immediately felt comfortable, relaxed and at home. The cleanliness of the Barn on our arrival was simply impeccable. I am very fussy about these things and it felt like we were the first to stay. There is underfloor heating throughout and a woodburner in the living room. The kitchen is really well fitted with oven, hob, washing machine, dishwasher, microwave and fridge freezer. Granite work surfaces and a large butler sink - couldn't ask for more. The main living space has very comfortable clean furniture and a large flatscreen TV. The bathroom has a large roll top bath and large walk-in shower/wet room. Bedrooms are really comfortable. I can't recommend this property enough, my family and I will definitely be returning. It was a chance discovery by us, booked last minute and what a find.

A beautiful cottage and garden in an excellent, central location.

Perfect for visiting the surrounding countryside and coast. The hosts were friendly and helpful, giving us good advice and tips on the cycle routes we went to do. We would definitely use it again if we were in the area. Best holiday cottage we have been in so far.

When I booked I informed the gentleman that I would like to book for the Friday arrival for one week but may not be able to arrive until the Sunday which would reduce my stay to five nights.

There was no change to the price so financially no loss for Sykes or the property owner but out of courtesy could he check with the owner that this was ok. I was placed on hold for a while, the operator came back and confirmed this was fine. However when I spoke to the property owner she had not been made aware that we may only stay for five nights from the Sunday so I was disappointed with this.

Just outside Okehampton, so near to amenities. Plenty to do in the area or just chill around the barn and its surrounding land. Everything you could wish for in a holiday cottage. The property owners are really lovely and helpful. The barn is very homely and is furnished fabulously. The milk and biscuits were much appreciated on arrival ready for a much needed coffee. Will definately return in the future.

Fantastic little cottage, the decor was neutral and modern, the level of finish was very high and the bathroom was wonderful.

Being of an ‘upside’ down arrangement made the bedrooms much cooler, which was lovely in the middle of a heat wave. The garden was brilliant for our son, who played football in the field, played on the rope swing and waded through the river, which he loved doing. Although. the owners were away on holiday themselves, Mandy text several times to make sure everything was okay. Overall a fantastic relaxing break.

The layout of the cottage was well thought out, we were staying in the cottage when the weather was very hot, because the bedrooms were on the ground floor it was very comfortable for sleeping plus it was a very comfy bed.

We can't praise it enough,good kitchen and lovely bathroom. I just wish I could of left a message in their visitor comment book but I'm just getting over a broken wrist and still unable the write. Okehampton is a lovely town and everyone was so friendly, we would love to go back. Chris and Adrian

As a photo guide book (In barn itself) tells you this accommodation was a barn conversion.

As such it was designed from the start to be a holiday let. This shows in the quality and layout of the barn, I couldn't fault it.Well done to owners and builder...... My wife and I both agree its the best holiday stay we've had. Owners were very approachable and are there to assist if needed. Ask them about the small walk at back of property along river. Barn was very conveniently placed for walks on Dartmoor. We did a lot of walking and didn't have travel more than 45 mins to furthest side of Dartmoor itself. We will definitely be going back.....

Surpassed all of our expectations, the pictures did not do this amazing barn justice. Easy location to get to with parking available. Would highly recommend and will definitely rebook if visiting the area again.

This beautiful '5 star' cottage is amazing.

It oozes warmth and comfort. The cottage is stunning, containing all the facilities you could wish for, for a relaxing and luxurious holiday. Attention to detail and support from the owners family surpassed expectation.

Owners bent over backwards to make sure we had everything we needed and are very welcoming.

The site is perfect for its tranquility and ideal for us as we cycled the Coast to Coast route, in sections, and wanted a central base halfway along the route. The owners provided us with secure storage for our bikes and even provided early learning books/toys for our baby granddaughter who visited for a few days. My wife and I are seasoned travellers and can honestly say this was one of the best rentals we have ever made. Congratulations to the owners for getting everything spot on.
