What guests are saying
We enjoyed our stay at 9, The Gables but did feel there were a few improvements that would bump the 3 star rating up to a 5 star rating.
I'll start with the positives though. The location is really great, and the instructions for how to get there were spot on; yes the parking is tight, but we were warned about this so no quibbles there. Generally, the ground floor apartment was clean but would benefit from a deep clean in those nooks and crannies. Thank you for the welcome pack, milk, cling film etc; this was very much appreciated. The apartment was very well stocked with everything from toys for the dog to family games. In terms of comfort, the shower was great - perfect temperature and pressure. However, the bed in the main bedroom was so uncomfortable that I had to sleep in the single bed in the twin bedroom. I did have a look at the mattress (as I thought maybe it was upside down) and I don't think it has been replaced for possibly 20 years; more than double the lifespan of a mattress. I could feel the individual springs which shouldn't be the case; please do try it out yourself to see what I mean. On a separate note, we ticked the option to have a travel cot for our baby; after our long drive, I was disappointed to not see it. Luckily, it was just before 5.30pm (closing time), and it was resolved quickly. However, we would have been at a loss without the cot had we arrived any later. On the subject of the travel cot, unless I missed it on the website you should really give the dimensions of the mattress (120 by 60cm) for the linen which understandably we had to bring ourselves. I did phone twice before our stay (I can give the details if wanted). On the first call I was given the dimensions 21 x 21 x 7.7cm which was obviously wrong and then the caller hung up on me. The second caller confirmed it was 120 by 60cm, and that this was standard across all Sykes accommodation. I would have preferred the option of speaking to the property owner directly, or the local Lyme Bays office (I called 01297 443363), or e-mailing the local office. I would stay at the apartment again but only if there was a new mattress in the main bedroom.
There's only so many good things I can say about this lovely spot - but the first one I want to mention is the fact that there are PLENTY OF CUPS, PLATES, CUTLERY and other bits and bobs in the kitchen - what a relief to have enough of everything.
It makes such a difference. Everything else about the place was lovely - clean, cared for, fantastic location and the beds very comfortable indeed! We will definitely be back!
Very quiet location and comfortably furnished in a tucked away location.
