Charm Cottage

Relaxing and comfortable.

Main room airy and spacious with 3 settees, plenty of room for family. Also within main room is large dining table with 6 chairs ample space for family to all laugh and eat together. TV needs updating. Requires a radio. Carpet requires deep clean in seating area by settee that backs onto window. Double patio doors into courtyard. Down 3 steps off of main room and you are in the nicely compact kitchen. Please note one tile floor still cracked and not replaced (mentioned this last year to you). Washing machine/tumble dryer excellent. Dishwasher: we did not use as like washing up the old fashion way. Gas hob all ok., main oven all ok, top oven does not work very well. Plenty of cutlery and dinner service: plates, bowls etc. Pots and Pans require updating, we always take our own frying pan and necessary utensils as find it easier. Fridge good, does the job. Toaster, kettle all ok. Microwave did not use as unsure how to operate. Door off of kitchen into main bathroom. Spacious bathroom. Please note: Bath towels far too small. Need to invest in larger bath towels. Plus would suggest you take your own bath sheets and additional toilet rolls. Take your own washing up liquid and washing powder along with extra tea towels. There are 2 tea towels supplied but I found it easier to have a couple of extra ones. There is a welcome bag of goodies for you on arrival which is a nice touch, along with fresh milk in fridge and a little pack of complimentary dishwasher tablets and small tube of washing up liquid + folded black plastic bin bags, Kitchen door into courtyard. Courtyard nice space, would benefit having a couple of sun loungers. Stairs up to first floor very tight, not suitable if you are physically challenged. However, very charming and adds character to accommodation. Landing pretty window overlooking courtyard and beyond. On first floor there is a shower/toilet room, Good space. Small double bedroom with window overlooking The Street. Good space. Main bedroom: Has en-suite toilet and sink - no shower. Bed truly comfortable as where the pillows etc. Window overlooking The Street. Could do with an easy chair/small armchair in this room. Please note that curtains still have stains on as does main larger chest of drawers. (This has been mentioned now for the last 3 years). Up staircase to Attic bedroom. Fantastic view, 2 single beds, good room, just be prepared to duck - beams- stairs up to attic room quite a tight fit. Just small minor issues that we have mentioned that should be easy quick fixes. Overall, we would definitely and always recommend Charm cottage, as it is very relaxing just to unwind from the hectic life in London.

Very clean and well equipped. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Look forward to returning in the near future.

This is the fourth time that we have stayed at Charm Cottage.

The first and second time it was fantastic even though there were some issues. A couple of which have still not been resolved. On the third stay we noticed that the issue with the ceiling/wall in the dining area had been addressed, but the kitchen ceiling cracks in plasterboard and cracks in tiles on kitchen floor had not been addressed. Likewise with the main bedroom, there were still, what looked like drink stains on the curtain and down the side of the bedside furniture. Also on the third visit we were quite alarmed that on open in the double patio doors that led into courtyard had thick black mould all around the door frames. The other issue on the third visit was that the “maintenance person” was parked outside the front if house window before 10 a.m this made us feel uncomfortable. My wife on seeing him there opened the front door to ask who he was. Whereby he replied that he was Maintenon for Charm Cottage. My wife brought him into the cottage, as he was maintenance, and showed him the thick black mould around the patio doors. The black mould was on the door frames and the internal door frame fixture. He replied that it was down to the cleaners. My wife made a suggestion that perhaps it would be a maintenance issue. Now we get to our fourth visit: kitchen cracks still there ceiling and tiles. Main bedroom issues still there. But most worrying of all was that the thick black mould around patio doors/frame is still there. But there is a new Smart TV… however, no bath sheet(s): which we found problematic. Toilet rolls, were they on ration ? There were 2 full toilet rolls 2 partial toilet rolls and 2 that should have been removed. We also noticed stains on settee, but shrugged it off as not everything can be perfect. And finally timescales/days at cottage. It states 5 Days and 4 nights, but in reality it is less than 4 days but it is 4 nights. Not being allowed into property until 4 o’clock is quite impractical and totally misleading in relation to being first day at property. In reality the first day is 8 hours 4-12pm. Then you have a full Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday… But Friday is again not a full day but only 10 hours (12 - 10am). Making in reality not a 5 day stay but a 3 day 18 hours stay, it would be more acceptable to people using your facilities to be allowed into the property before 4pm a suggestion would be either 12 or 1pm Your guest, would have been travelling for quite some time and to arrive at their destination only to be not allowed into the property until 4pm is not good customer service. Likewise on leaving day, 10 am should be either 11 or 12. Rational for this, is that the customer has to: Strip the beds of all bed lining and place in downstairs bath, they also have to place all towels in downstairs bath. They then hoover, clean down work surfaces, dining table etc. They also ensure that all appliance eg: kitchen ware, plates, cutlery etc are washed and put away. That bathrooms etc are left clean and tidy… Plus, rubbish put into the correct bags and placed into the garden storage box… why then would it take 6 hours for your staff to prepare house for next guest? Please note that we did not strip the bed in the second bedroom on the first floor as family members could not get time off of work, so it was not used. We loved going to Charm Cottage, and thought that at least the black mould issue would have been dealt with by the time we returned later in the year, alas it was not. That is quite concerning.

Lovely little cottage with much more character than in photos- especially the yard- a delightful flowery sun trap.

We had a great time with our two teenagers and thank you for welcome package! There are few things about the cottage that it would be good to share with future users- the top floor stairs are truly steep, and the the walk from the beach might be difficult if you have limited mobility- kept us fit! There’s no food basics (salt,pepper,oil) in the cottage and one dish towel for a week felt a bit mean. More seriously, there’s no recycling facilities in the cottage or nearby (the bottle bank at the beach has closed and waste is not sorted after collection). We didn’t find parking an issue- there was always a street space nearby.

This is our second visit to Charm cottage within 4 months.

Charm cottage is charming. However, hot water instructions for boiler requires information, about how to turn ON hot water, to be ABOVE the actual smaller boiler control unit on the left hand side of the cupboard wall were this small unit is. Still suggest that there should be larger coconut matting (mat) by front door as you enter into cottage, would ensure no mess goes onto actual carpet. Otherwise all good. A relaxing time had by all. Charm cottage is a gem.

Lovely property, just a short walk from Charmouth beach.

This was perfect for our stay. My only complaint is there was something sharp on the stairs which I cut my foot on, but I wasn’t sure where I could log this issue. The cottage was clean and the selection of welcome ‘gifts’ were a lovely touch. We had a lovely stay and we wished we stayed there longer!

Charm Cottage is such an apt name for this wonderful and quirky cottage.

As you step through the front door you enter a calm and tranquil sanctuary. A wonderful social setting for you and your loved ones. You walk over the threshold into a large room that is superbly laid out with 3 double sofas and a family dining table. The kitchen is down 2 steps and is kitted out to suit everyones needs. There is a ground floor full bath plus shower, toilet etc, very spacious bathroom. Paito doors lead from the kitchen into a large courtyard garden, great for outdoor dining and most importantly sorting through your fossil finds. Up the stair case leads you to 2 double bedrooms one with ensued (toilet and sink) plus a separate shower room (with toilet). The mattresses on all of the beds were so comfortable, we all went straight off to sleep as soon as our heads hit the super comfortable pillows. Then there was another flight of stairs up to the loft bedroom that my grandson loved, with a fantastic view out of the large window. A few minutes walk from Charm Cottage (2 or 3 minutes) is the Royal Oak Inn where you can have the most sumptuous meals, far superior and better quality food than any London establishment, You can meander down to the Beach via Lower Sea Lane, about a 10 minute walk from Charm Cottage, to either fossil hunt or just relax and watch the world go by. We did not want to leave Charm cottage. We will definitely be booking again in the Autumn for another stay at this Charming cottage.

The cottage is in a great location with an easy walk to the beach.

Spacious living accommodation and good facilities, beds were comfy! Lovely decoration throughout. However we had NO hot water or heating on our final evening and the next morning - we followed the instructions on the boiler and although the lights on the control panel were on, the boiler didn’t fire up. Not ideal after the whole family had been on the been beach and got wet and cold. We also couldn’t find a direct local number to contact? Overall we had a lovely time in Charmouth and would love to come back.

I think we had not understood well enough the difficulty presented by the stairs in this cottage.

As older people in mid 70's, they presented a real challenge physically and safety wise. This was also the case for our two little grand children. I think this issue needs to be stated a bit more clearly. Also, it would have been better to have provided a small map of the cottage location vis a vis the town shops and parking. Beds very comfortable.

We (family of 4) were so warm and comfortable. The welcome pack was a lovely touch and we enjoyed sampling the contents on our wet fossil hunting missions! Kitchen well stocked, plenty of towels. Fabulous cottage in a superb location. Would definitely recommended.

Very cosy cottage, we had a wonderful stay at Charmouth and we all enjoyed the welcoming spirit of this place.

Just a little comment : the DVD player does not seem to be working. Otherwise everything was great, comfy beds, well equipped kitchen and very nice living space

We have totally fallen in love with your cottage.

Everything has been so well thought through that we come home and copy some of the ideas. Only a couple of little points. As a mixed age group, it would be useful to have a second door key. And I know this is seems to be a post Covid problem, but the check-in and check-out times are rather unkind, especially the 4 pm. Many thanks.

Beautiful and clean, comfortable, spacious cottage (we were a party of 6 adults) with a touch of luxury with feather duvets and pillows.

The cottage is within walking distance of shop, pubs and beach. Only flaw is that there was to much equipment in the kitchen cupboards which made it feel cluttered, leaving no room to store dry food items. The iron did not work well and was surprised on our last day when putting the rubbish out there was already existing rubbish in the waste box.

Lovely property, beautifully renovated and well situated on the main route through Charmouth.

Welcome hamper appreciated. Reasons for lower ratings: when we arrived the property smelt unusual and we finally figured out this was due to the dishwasher having old congealed food at the bottom of it and in the filter which we then had to get out by hand. Very unpleasant and not something you expect for the price paid. We also had to wash everything we used as it just looked grimey. Also the listing states on road parking is available however, I think it should be made clear that The Street and most roads surrounding are double yellow lined, with the occasion parking bays outlined. These aren't easy to come by at all, and sometimes mean you have to park considerably far away, not ideal for anyone with small children/elderly/disabled. Both above points are not reflective of the cottage itself, which is beautiful, but definitely things to consider if I were to rebook (which I would consider being a regular Charmouth visitor)

Very good cottage that suited us very well.

We liked using the courtyard. Although on the road through the village we didn’t find the road noise intrusive even though being warm, we had bedroom windows open slightly at night. The attic room has great views.

the heated towel rails upstairs are not working there were two light bulbs not working in the lounge there were no oven gloves overall very comfortable and we enjoyed our stay

Lovely property.

Very comfortable beds and well equipped. Brilliant location walking distance to the beach. The courtyard garden is a lovely space to sit and relax. It would be useful if oven gloves and a water jug could be provided - otherwise it had everything we needed.
