It is very warm and cosy, we would recommend to anyone.

Dunster village is delightful and there are many great walks in the area. We will definitely be back.

  • "The cottage was very cosy, especially for the first night of our two night stay as we lit the log burner."

We thought there would be some more logs in the outside store, alas no, so we were not able to enjoy the luxury of a cosy fire on night two. The beds were extremely comfortable as were the two chairs in the lounge, but the sofa was not the most comfy.

  • "We really enjoyed our stay in Bodkin Cottage."

It was warm, welcoming and well equipped. The owner is really kind and thoughtful, sending useful information before our stay. It has an excellent location in Dunster village where there are cafes, restaurants and a well stocked delicatessen. We found it was a perfect base for walking.

Private parking is not available but on street parking is certainly not an issue in low season. The bells from the church behind us, we felt were charming and enhanced our stay in lovely dunster .

  • "We stayed over the New Year."

The cottage felt very homely and welcoming. It is well equipped, spacious and we loved having use of the log burner. Within easy walking distance to various cafes and pubs of Dunster (including gin distillery!) Short drive to beaches and Minehead for supermarkets etc. We found we were always able to park outside or just up the road. Lots of dog friendly walks also. Owners were friendly and efficient. Lovely stay all in all - even with all the rain!

  • "We loved our stay at Bodkin cottage."

We were fortunate to have fantastic sunny weather. The location is perfect for anyone coming by public transport, the local buses are excellent. And if you’re lucky enough to have a bus pass you can go all the way to Lynmouth and back on the open top bus for free! Plenty of wonderful walks straight from the front door. The cottage is comfortable and well equipped and quiet. And we miss hearing the church bells now we are back home.

  • "Lovely little old cottage in a great location in the centre of Dunster itself."

Great walks just outside the front door with helpful notes from the owners to follow. As previous reviews have said parking can sometimes be a bit tricky but we always managed to find somewhere. Courtyard garden is tiny and doesn't get much sun so we didn't use it much, if you want somewhere outside to sit or for dogs to sit this one isn't for you. Tasty cake and milk provided on arrival which is always a nice touch. Beds comfy. The church bells ring every 15 minutes but this didn't bother us, we got used to it quite quickly.

  • "Excellent location in the village, close to all amenities."

Cottage had all the basics for our stay. No allocated parking ( this is mentioned in the description) We found we had to park away from the cottage when returning late evening- a bit of a pain with two dogs and bags Very small paved courtyard at the back- not really suitable for dogs.

  • "I have stayed at Bodkin Cottage previously, and wS happy to return."

It's in the centre of the village. Also love the church bells, if you're someone who moans about the bells 'don't go to a country village '. Dunster is a credit to the locals, no McDonalds, Burger King,Pizza or Kebabs Shops, just three great pubs, restaurants and coffee shops. We love ❤️ it that way. If you want bright lights go somewhere else.

Cottage exactly as stated on website. Dunster is a truly beautiful village and the cottage provides an ideal base for exploring the surrounding area. There are also lots of stunning walks close by, so plenty to do with if you have four legged friends. • "This was a really comfy, home from home cottage, presented very well, clean and tidy."

Kitchen has everything you need but there is no freezer section in the fridge. Bedding and towels provided were clean and smelt lovely. The rooms are well spaced. There really is no phone signal in the cottage but the WiFi is very good. Parking is a bit hit and miss but there was always a space not too far away. Great walks right from the door. At the moment you have to think ahead about eating out in the evening, there are some very good nearby eateries but you need to book. The cottage is really well placed for so many things to do, be that on the coast or on the moor. We would definitely recommend the cottage and would definitely return.

    Mrs Sandra AldersonJul 2021

  • "We say exceeded expectations because that is what it really was the first time we visited Bodkin Cottage."

It is also why we have now returned three times. It is such a cosy, well equipped bolt-hole for two, situated in a superb village with lots of good eating places and so near the beautiful surrounding countryside. What more could one ask for?

  • "Had an amazing few days stay in Bodkin Cottage, conveniently situated to walk to the main street/castle in Dunster, various pubs within short walking distance of cottage for evening dinner/drinks."

The cottage itself is lovely. Parking is difficult in Dunster, due to the fact the roads are so narrow, however we used Bodkin Cottage as a base to explore surrounding areas, travelling as far as Ilfracombe and Cheddar Gorge and no matter what time we arrived back at the cottage we never had a problem parking near it. Would thoroughly recommend staying here, lovely cottage, beautiful part of the world.

    Mrs Sue PetittJul 2019

  • "The cottage was extremely welcoming after a long journey."

It was warm and cosy. A welcome note complete with tea, coffee and cake laid out on a tray was also greatly appreciated. It is small touches like this that make the beginning of a break relaxing. I felt the price of the cottage was about right due to the location and proximity to the centre of the village. I would book again with Sykes Cottages and for Bodkin Cottage too.

We came back for a longer visit having had such a great time just over two months ago. As we opened the door it was all was as great as we had remembered. Rather like coming back to a well loved home. Again we found lots to do in and around Dunster and took advantage of the wide variety of places in the village to have an evening meal. And of course the cottage is very well equipped for cooking "at home". We expect to be coming back again.

    Mr David FosterAug 2018

  • "Dunster is the most beautiful, dog & human friendly small town!"

Streets are the cleanest I've ever seen with a great variety of quality shops. Bodkin Cottage is an excellent base for holidays in this area. Didn't even need to move the car as we just walked down to Dunster Steep to catch the 28 bus to Minehead. The steam train is a really different day out which we loved. Lots going on every day or you can happily lose an afternoon fossil hunting (very successfully) at Quantoxhead (St Audries).

About the location

DUNSTER

Minehead 3 miles.

Dunster is a popular tourist village near the North Somerset coast and is a largely unspoiled spot: the centre of the town retains many old buildings which hug the winding cobbled streets. The whole village is dominated by the castle on its hill but the focal point of the High Street is the picturesque Yarn Market, a covered area built in 1609 particularly to accommodate the wool traders and other cloth merchants. Inside Dunster castle there are fine plasterwork ceilings and the extensive terraced and landscaped gardens contain many rare shrubs and trees, and offer marvelous views out to sea, and towards the Quantocks. For those who enjoy exploring the countryside, Dunster is within the Exmoor National Park and there are plenty of footpaths leading onto the surrounding hills of Grabbist and walks into Dunster’s Deer Park at the foot of the castle. Dunster is well served with traditional inns, individual shops and interesting places to explore including the working 18th century watermill. West Somerset’s premier resort of Minehead is less than three miles away and has golden sandy beaches, seaside attractions for the visitor, and plenty of cafes, shops and bistros.

Note: This property does not accept children under 5, due to the steep stairs.
