The Coach House

The location is good for a base to get out and see Dartmoor and surrounding areas the property is clean and well stocked with essential items for a stay self catering.

With the surrounding hedges and gate it is private away from the main camp site, the owners were very welcoming and helpful. We would happily book here again.

Apart from the following it is fine.

A good location for Dartmoor, Tavistock, National Trust at Cotehele and Buckfast Abby. Seaside an hour away at Kingsand and Polzeath. Cottage was clean and generally well maintained and spacious. Problem for us were. Although there is a Smart TV because the Wi-Fi is so poor it constantly buffers on BBC i-player. My laptop couldn’t connect to the cloud so I couldn’t do work I had planned. The shower only has an overhead drencher, no separate slide rail fitting, so bring a shower cap if you want to keep your hair dry. The rooflights have no blinds and there is borrowed light into the twin bed bedroom so I found it difficult to sleep after sunrise.

We made a very last minute booking for the coach house to spend New Year, and we are so happy we did.

The property is absolutely lovely. Great character and it was really cosy spending evenings in front of the log fire. The owner couldnt have been more friendly or helpful and the location is ideal for visiting Tavistock and exploring Dartmoor. We would love to visit again and highly recommend this property.

It's a beautiful rural area, with plenty of local amenities nearby should you not find what you need in the on-site shop.

The site owners are local, friendly and are clearly dedicated to making your stay an enjoyable one, being more than happy to offer suggestions and advice about the area and are very happy to help in any way they can. We were made to feel very welcome and considered from the moment we arrived and we left wishing we'd booked at least another day, if only to have had the opportunity to try out the archery lessons they have on-site, but certainly to enjoy the cottage another day. We stayed in The Coach House cottage and, I have to say, the under floor heating system throughout the place was very much appreciated as it not only meant no cold feet, it really helped to create a cosy atmosphere in every room. Had it not been a bit too warm for it when we stayed, we would have definitely also made use of the gorgeous woodburner and supplied starter kit to add to the skillfully crafted ambience the owners have created within this gem of a holiday home. The beds and bedding are all great quality, making for a wonderful night's sleep. I especially appreciated the large, well-stuffed pillows. The attractive bathroom has a handy motion-sensor light and the shower is easy to use, has very good coverage and decent pressure. Toilet rolls, shampoos and hand soaps were all graciously included! Sitting down in the evenings to watch a movie, the sofas were welcomingly comfortable and relaxing and I had to stop myself dozing off on them more than once. Although, the lighting in the main area is on two dimmer switches, one for the lounge area and one for the kitchen, so it was likely my fault for making the place TOO cosy playing around with those! As for amenities in the cottage, there was everything cutlery & crockery-wise needed to cook yourself or your family a proper meal plus more to make sure you're truly catered for. We were even treated to a cream tea of scones and local top-quality clotted cream with a jar of jam waiting for us on the kitchen table upon arrival, which was a pleasant and appreciated surprise after a long drive. The cottage has basic essentials like the things you'd usually forget to bring such as condiments, tea & coffee, washing up liquid and such, but there's thought gone into what's there for use and you'll find handy extras and other things you thought you didn't need but did, thanks to the owners who are clearly well-suited to the hospitality industry! All in all, we very much enjoyed our short stay so we will more than likely be returning the next time we're in Devon. If the Coach House is unavaliable we may even try the camp site instead!
