Owls Roost

The property is light and airy with lovely views over the countryside to Holdstone and Great Hangmans hills and the sea beyond.

The kitchen is modern and well equipped. The dining room and lounge were fine too. The three bedrooms and their onsuites were most comfortable. We enjoyed sitting out on the balcony overlooking the garden and watching the sunsets. Jayne was a most friendly, helpful and gave interesting insights into the lives of the farming community. So in short we had a most enjoyable time and have no hesitation in recommending Owls Roost to others.

We found Owls Roost was a great home to explore the North Devon coast.

It was clean and comfortable with lovely views from upper decking. The house stayed reasonably cool which was great to come back to when temperatures were in the 30s.

Everything was absolutely brilliant - Jayne was so warm and welcoming, without being too involved.

The house had everything you'd need to cook (including sharp, yes sharp! knives), although you will need your own oil, tea, coffee, etc. My only very slight downside is that the mattresses were a bit too soft, but that's probably just me considering how many beds seem to be on that side. The balcony looking over the down was so peaceful, and the hot tub was just what tired legs needed after traversing the many climbs of the SW Coast Path. If you're looking for a true getaway, I couldn't recommend more highly.

Lovely comfortable house - spacious and very well-equipped.

Excellent for 3 generations! Beautiful location with easy access on foot to the Coast Path and other walks on the downs. Nice welcome - scones, jam and cream and Easter eggs for the children. Thankyou Janey! Car essential for visiting nearby seaside resorts, National Trust property, the funicular railway etc.

Jayne is a wonderful hostess delivering tulips, homemade scones, clotted cream , jam and small box of ordered groceries .

Farmhouse has lovely views and is roomy and warm . It is very clean and well equipped and hot tub great fun . Very near to beaches, lovely walks, fantastic scenery and Arlington National Trust .

It was spotlessly clean, warm and well equipped. Janey has thought of everything. Freshly baked scones, strawberry jam and clotted cream were waiting to welcome us. We will definitely be back as we were so comfortable a home from home! Thank you.

We absolutely loved this farm cottage.

It worked so well for us as a combined family. The cottage is very spacious with lovely outdoor deck and garden and extremely secure. It is well equipped with cooking items, large fridge/ freezer and a separate utility room with washer and dryer. The entrance hall is perfect for storing shoes, beach bags etc and the location is close to Coombe Martin bay, Ilfracombe and Woolacombe. And the owner Jane goes out of her way to make sure your stay is perfect!

Overall we had a lovely stay in Devon, the location was beautiful and the owners clearly worked hard to maintain the grounds, this was very obvious.

The welcome was lovely, the scones that were left were a really nice touch as were the pocket tissues in each bathroom. The beds were very comfortable. And the owner was very pleasant and welcoming on arrival. A few things to mention though: Sadly the smell of damp was very strong, in the downstairs double bedroom the cupboard where the cot bed/high chair is kept was very damp to the point that we put a towel down so the smell didn’t seep out. We opened the windows constantly to air the rooms. The room with the single beds had damp/mould on the wall in the corner, this was right next to where my youngest child slept, we had to keep the window ajar, but this meant the room being very cold in the night time, even with a blast of the heating. We had to take our rubbish to the bins (which would normally be absolutely no issue, however the bins were located at the very top of the drive which either meant carrying it all the way whilst walking (if heavy it was a nightmare as it was a long way, or carrying it out the window of the car, which was also a nightmare!) when paying so much money to stay in a place, I would expect to just put our rubbish in a bin near to the property. The couch and armchairs were very uncomfortable, we all felt like we were falling forwards when sat on them. The owners have put extra cushions on the base of the couch and chairs as the original cushions you sit on looked like they had gone flat, but this just made you feel like you are falling forwards. This was a real shame as we like to sit together as a family in the evenings. The shower in the main bathroom downstairs was very slow flowing, if you have long hair it is very hard to get shampoo out. The hot tub was lovely, we mainly used this in the evening, however we were slightly put off when we saw that we didn’t have sole use of it for the week, which was the impression we were given. On the whole, a beautiful place, but the damp/mould and the couches were a big disappointment.

We had a wonderful stay at Owls Roost, Beautiful scenery and accommodation.

The weather was perfect so we could enjoy sitting out on the decking with a glass of wine. Jayne the perfect host is at hand if needed. When we arrived Jayne had a lovely cream tea waiting for us which I must say was delicious. Would certainly go again.

The interior of the property is comfortably furnished and lacked nothing that could have made it more so. Jayne our host made sure that we had everything we needed.

Nice welcome package. Not far from Combe Martin. They now have a decking, so you are sat higher up when sitting out. We would book it again anytime.

Owls Roost is a lovely farmhouse property situated on a working farm.

It was spacious, comfortable and well equipped. The views of the surrounding countryside were glorious. It is an excellent situation for visiting the North Devon and Somerset area. The owner, Jayne was very friendly and helpful. We can highly recommend Owls Roost. We did not see the owl but we did hear it.

Fantastic location with easy access to the coast.

Owls’s Roost was ideal for our three generations.

We loved being able to use the hot tub and the children delighted in playing in the garden searching for the rabbits that occasionally appeared. The central location allowed us easy access to many of N. Devon’s attractions. To top it all, the weather was glorious! We would happily return.

This property was well equipped, but there were none of the usual ‘extras’ e.

g. tinfoil, cling film, basic cooking seasonings, sugar, tea etc. No welcome pack or message from the owner and no information on how to use equipment (heating, oven etc). The owner when approached was not very friendly. We arrived on a particularly cold/wet July day and the property was cold and it was not easy to find how to put any heating on to take the chill off and dry things.

Owls Roost is a roomy ,well equipped property where a warm welcome was provided and every need catered for.

It is situated in the countryside on a working farm ,with beautiful rural views which were appreciated whether sitting on the deck enjoying an early morning cuppa, or watching the evening sun set. The property was spotlessly clean and had ample parking for the 3 cars our family brought and also a garden in which to relax or play. A suitable base for families or groups of friends who wish to experience what North Devon has to offer.

Paul and myself have stayed at Owls Roost twice now and have found it home from home.

The first time our daughter Michelle came with us and enjoyed the close proximity to the coastal paths. Jayne who looks after the cottage is very helpful and the property is very well equipped and comfortable. The views from the decking are amazing. The only thing that in our opinion would improve the holiday would be a smart television for evening viewing as Netflix members it would have been good to watch films and series.

Great find my second visit and not my last

I can’t recommend the Owls Roost highly enough, it’s so cosy, warm and comfy.

It’s so well equipped with everything you need for a pleasant stay. Jane and Keith are so friendly and welcoming. We loved everything about our stay and would love to return some day. Thanks for a very memorable stay

The shower needs doing in the down stairs double bedroom because it doesn't work well you can't get an even heat on it and the smell of the bedding needs changing not a nice smell but otherwise ok

This is without doubt the best accommodation we have ever stayed in - beautiful

the property is perfect and very well equipped for the 6 adults we had in our party with more than sufficient crockery, space etc.

The terrace was lovely to sit on admiring the rolling countryside and distant sea views. The garden also with space to play badminton and have a barbeque was excellent. The hot tub too was kept spotlessly clean. Jane, our host, was available if needed and a considerable help when one of our party was taken ill on arrival. Good idea to phone Jane in advance for the more specific directions as the cottage name 'Owls Roost' was not signposted. An excellent stay and we would highly recommend for a quiet relaxing break but still within easy drive of beaches, towns etc

An amazing location, with amazing views from the living areas and raised decking.

Sofas and beds were very comfy and the kitchen was very well equipped. We all had a wonderful holiday - plenty of things to do for all ages! Downstairs shower door (double bedded) was not easy to open when coming out and the fan in the other bedroom became noisy towards the end of our stay.

We had a really lovely weekend at Owls Roost.

The set up of the property was lovely. A real luxury having en suite bathrooms for every bedroom. The pressure of the shower was a little low for us but the bathrooms were spacious, modern and clean. Just a short drive to Combe Martin was perfect and easy access to the coastal path made for some lovely walks. We would definitely recommend.

The property is spacious, comfortable and generously equipped, in a rural working farm location perfect for exploring North Devon.

The beds provided a very relaxing nights sleep. The only downside we noted, was the size of the provided bath towels, which we thought were on the small side.

Owls Roost was the perfect getaway for us with our two grown up daughters and their partners.

A glorious location, quiet and secluded but within easy reach of Coombe Martin and the surrounding area. Spotlessly clean (and our standards are high!) and everything provided. Three generously sized double bedrooms each with their own en-suite. Attention to detail was faultless and the benefit of having the owner on site and taking obvious pride in accommodating their guests, made this the perfect stay for us. The outside balcony sitting area provided the idyllic setting for enjoying the glorious sunshine and breathtaking sunsets. The hot-tub also a welcome treat!

It's our third visit. It is so peaceful and comfortable.

I made this booking initially through VRBO / AirBNB and paid £160 fee only then for this stay to be directed to you and pay the cost of the rental , I felt misled although you may say you copuld have booked through us first I dont see where paying customers should be penalised by owners advertising in numerous areas and not been clear in the actual rental arrangement .

The cottage is in a lovely location and was of a very high standard, it had lovely views, plenty of wildlife and friendly owners, who made us feel most welcome, without being intrusive.

The hot tub was a bonus, very welcome and soothing after a particularly strenuous walk. There are plenty of walks not far from the cottage and it was lovely to sit out on the verandah after a day out, watching the sun set. The lovely sandy stretch of Woolacombe Beach is just a short ride away, and the surrounding countryside was breathtaking. A very relaxing and enjoyable break. Close to Combe Martin @3miles and ilfracombe @8 miles. Hot tub is brilliant for a relaxing evening soak. Kids loved it. Will definitely return.

Owls nest is in an exceptional area .

The balcony at the back meant we could enjoy the wildlife. The owners were very friendly and approachable. The accommodation itself was tremendous. Each room had it's own ensuite.It was very very homely and comfortable and had everything we needed.A wonderful place.

we all loved the house, beds were comfy, plenty of room for 6 of us, there tended to be lots of flies but it is a farm.

The outside patio is lovely to sit outside for meals if the weather permits.The only negative for us was we took our bikes but the roads are not suitable very narrow only wide enough for a car, and pray no one is coming the other way.The lady who who owned it was very nice.

The owls roost is a fab place.

The beds are comfy, facilities are great as each bedroom has en suite and a lovely layout and unique. The owner is really nice and lovely. She didn’t even mind my 20month old running up and down making loads of noise. We will definitely return again at some point.

Felt very comfortable at Owl's Roost.

The hot tub was the perfect temperature and a real hit for our girls. Although the weather didn't permit us to go our and about much, this was no problem as Owl's Roost is the perfect setting cor a cosy night in with extra heaters in the dining room and sitting room. The bathrooms were nicely decorated and spotlessly clean! Normally I take disinfectant wipes to wipe over the surfaces etc but really didn't have the need as this place was so clean. One thing which surprised me was that the Guest Book dated back to 1979! The owners are obviously dab-hands at what they do! I will highly recommend this place to my friends and family.

Everything was perfect from initial booking all the way through to leaving.

The owner greeted us with a beautiful home baked cake and scones, jam and clotted cream, 2 vases of flowers plus 2 bottles of wine! Absolutely heavenly place to stay. Loved it.

You need to arrive in day light! Our journey took 8 hours instead of 4 and if it weren’t for the lovely host coming out in her car to find us, I truly believe we would have spent the first night in our car!! Beautiful house on a working farm. Lovely attention to detail. Lovely, friendly host.

Fantastic stay at Owls Roost with my Husband and Children 24th - 31st May.

The cottage was amazing very clean, well equipped and comfortable. The location was great with fabulous views. Owners friendly and helpful. Our only suggestions would be a blackout blinds or curtains in the master bedroom and some pasta bowls in in the kitchen but this is just preference.

The accommodation had everything that we needed - the beds were comfortable, the kitchen well equipped, good TV and WiFi reception and the icing on the cake; a hot tub to relax in after a days walking.

Perfect location, peaceful and surrounded by lovely countryside, just the odd wiff of a farmyard smell, but to be expected for a working farm, and a small price to pay for such a lovely place.

Loved the cottage fitted all our needs with 3 couples having own room with on suite and the added bonus the jacuzzi.

My wife and I have used the venue twice before, but our 4 guests hadn't and we all enjoyed the property and its facilities.

Everything was thought of and provided. We were very much left alone to enjoy our stay, but Jayne was very obliging when we needed help, and her family and staff were happy and amenable as we encountered them.
