    “We love Sandsgate and have been several times, but there is one improvement worth considering.”

    The views are beautiful but of course showers and rain are frequent and as there is no cover it means sitting outside is disrupted or sometimes not possible. Could a gazebo or awning or similar be erected to take advantage, don't think it needs heat personally but power might be an idea.

The property

In a splendid location down a private drive on a hillside three miles from the Dartmoor town of Chagford is this wonderful detached house.

With a terrace stretching the entire width of the house for views across the Teign Valley to Castle Drogo, this is a splendid house for big families or groups of friends to enjoy.

The big sitting room has French windows to that terrace, as well as comfy sofas and an open fire.

You will enjoy spending time in the kitchen, which is another magnificent room where you can dine around the huge table, chill out in the seating area over the Dartmoor views, watch TV, or rustle up a meal whilst the children play with the toys provided.

A study also opens to those time wasting vistas.

Take the stairs up to a games room on the first floor, where you can enjoy a game of pool or table football or watch TV.

All the bedrooms are smart, with those views and TV, but the pièce de résistance is the big master bedroom, complete with its own sunroom which leads you through to a balcony where you can gaze over Castle Drogo with an evening drink.

There are three other bedrooms, plus a shower room and beautiful bathroom on this floor, then follow more stairs up two large bedrooms under the eaves, sharing a bathroom.

Outside there are 18 vast acres of lovely peaceful natural grounds, with lawns, ancient woodland and even a prehistoric stone circle.

You may not want to leave Sandsgate, but if you do there is National Trust Castle Drogo to explore, the friendly shops and pubs of nearby Chagford, open moorland which invites you to walk and picnic, golf and children’s attractions, the city lights of Exeter within a twenty minute drive and great beaches just forty minutes away.

Sandsgate is a very special, private house for big groups to totally relax.

About the location

CHAGFORD

Okehampton 12 miles; Exeter 21 miles.

A picturesque town at the northern point of Dartmoor National Park in Devon. Chagford, one of the five Stannary towns of Dartmoor, is small in size but is packed with amenities and things to do. There is a wide range of shops as well as four pubs. Chagford also has more active facilities such as public tennis court and an open-air swimming pool to enjoy at your leisure. It is a town of great history, home to the Three Crowns Hotel which dates back to the 1200's. Chagford is well known for its culture, hosting film, literary and music festivals in the town as well as an annual running race, known as Two Hills Race. Just over 21 miles away is the bustling, beautiful city of Exeter for a different kind of break, definitely worth a visit. The charming, attractive town of Okehampton sits just 12 miles away.
