This is a very nice and well equipped cottage on one of the best places in Lyme

Holly Cottage is a lovely place to stay and perfectly situated in a very quaint pedestrian only lane right in the heart of the town.

Upon entering we found it a lot smaller than it looks in the photographs but we soon adapted. Yes, the stairs are steep but perfectly doable. The two bedrooms upstairs are very quaint, the bedding is immaculate and the storage space very adequate. A mirror in both bedrooms and not just one is, I think, indispensable. The kitchen is nicely laid out and pretty. There are plenty of appliances but we felt that it lacks a little in glasses ( beer in a water glass), different sizes of cups (an expresso in a mug) , serving bowls and dishes and cutlery. The living room/dining area is very quaint but overly furnished with a much too big upholstered bench or footrest being used as a coffee table. No room to circulate and impossible to lay down your glasses. We rearranged everything and put the said table in the bay window and used a cane chest as the coffee table. Much better. Things go downhill when you go out the back door. It all looks a bit neglected. The ‘outdoor utility room’ is a door you open and discover a cupboard with an overflowing freezer (for which Lyme Bay Cottages offered immediately to send someone out to defrost it) and a washing machine perched on top for which there are no instructions. It’s not a walk in cupboard, just a cupboard which is pretty dirty. The top of the garden seems a little ignored as when we arrived all the cushions had been left out in the pouring rain. We couldn’t sit out in the evening as all the garden lights were out of order and seemingly had been disconnected ‘for security reasons’. The staff in the Lyme Bay Holidays office were pleasant and very accommodating as we did have a couple of problems during our stay most of which they rapidly took care of. Despite all that, we felt totally at home and had a lovely week in Holly Cottage.

Beautifully decorated, very clean & well appointed. Location is great in Lyme Regis & everything was easily accessible. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend.

Couldn’t have asked for more from our stay.

The three of us (plus dogs) had a really super stay in Holly Cottage.

It was really beautiful - both inside and out, plus the beds (and pillows) were really comfortable. The garden was well maintained too, so we enjoyed sitting out there at the top end where the late evening sun shone and relaxing after a busy day. The only thing that could have been improved upon were some kind of grab rails down the stairs inside the cottage (as these were quite shallow and had to be negotiated carefully) and outside (as some were at different levels/heights, making them difficult to climb up and down without holding onto something). Also the Hozelock watering system hose was trailing across the steps at the bottom (from the outdoor storage cupboard that housed the freezer) and held down by a large stone - maybe this could be anchored more efficiently to stop it becoming a potential trip hazard. Apart from this feedback, we absolutely loved the cottage - in fact it was one of the best places we've stayed in Lyme, especially having a beautiful garden for us to enjoy and the dogs to run around in too. Thank you for so much for such a lovely stay in what were sad circumstances (our last goodbye to our parents, having cleared the last of their belongings out of their house prior to Completion). We would love to return and stay for longer next time!

What a wonderful cottage, Holly cottage is!

The décor was absolutely beautiful, with lovely high end additions like the fab coffee machine. Still totally central, yet the location felt nice and quiet which was such a perk, during a busy peak period in Lyme Regis. The secure back garden was absolutely perfect for our dog and really well kept. We would have absolutely no hesitation in booking again. The one and only piece of feedback for improvement would be that it would have been great if there was an iron available at the property - maybe we just didn't find it. Hope to come and visit again soon! Thanks for a fab stay.

Holly Cottage is beautifully furnished, quiet, very clean and extremely comfortable.

There were a few shortcomings; there is no iron or ironing board in the property, no tea pot, and a lack of wine glasses. While we knew there was no dishwasher it seems an oversight that a property of this standard doesn’t have a dishwasher. Of all the holiday accommodations we’ve stayed in this one did seem lacking in the provision of additional amenities, e.g there was no welcome pack. It would have been good to have had a few basics provided like salt and pepper and shower gel. I also feel it would be good to consider the waste of individual washing up liquid tubes and sponges that shed plastics …this is a coastal location and maybe more thought could be given to caring for the local environment than the convenience and waste of washing up packs. There were no instructions for the hob or oven that some might find difficult to use. The guide book in the house was outdated with many businesses no longer trading. I think that there could be a little more clarity regarding whether it is Lyme Bay holidays or Sykes you are contacting, there seems a lot of confusing cross branding. On arrival we found the front garden covered in waste from the bin bags left out. Seagulls are an issue in Lyme but maybe a proper dustbin would help! Clearing up refuse was not the ideal start to our break. There was a lot of debris around the back door, plastics, leaf litter and other debris that looked like it had been there a while. My main gripe is the total lack of support from Sykes. We tried ringing different numbers provided, no reply even after long waits. We sent a message via WhatsApp and while it said someone would be in contact we heard nothing. Absolutely awful service. Overall a beautiful little cottage that the owners have clearly put a lot of care and love into that a few little improvements would make absolutely perfect.

Inside the cottage was great but externally especially the back could have done with a tidy, putting the watering pipes away in the shed, clean, the outside lights, windows could have been wiped down and grass could have been mown.

Broken chairs totally unusable and cushions were left out so were damp and unusable. The outside front had a large bag of rubbish obviously left there for a few weeks. This is what has reduced my rating

Holly Cottage was everything and more for what we hoped for in our holiday to Lyme Regis.

The cottage decor is stunning, and so incredibly clean and welcoming. The welcome bag was an absolute delight and the bedding, towels and rooms were just sheer luxury. Garden was perfect for our 2 dogs and the location was sublime. We thoroughly enjoyed our daily walks to the beach, discovering the back streets steeped in history and were thrilled to find the local micro brewery! We cannot wait to visit again soon.

Beautiful comfortable homely cottage.

Instructions for the coffee machine would be useful, and availability of a small supply of wood for the fire would have been nice. The property details warn of the steepness of the approach to the property and a couple of internal stairs between rooms, but no mention of the steepness of the staircase and lack of a handrail, which may have been a problem for some visitors. Cold tap in bathroom plumbed wrongly so it turns on in opposite way to normal - we thought it was inoperable on the first day! Overall a lovely stay and we would happily go back again.

The cottage is stunning.

And we really enjoyed our stay. In the welcome book there was plenty of information about the surrounding area, but we had no clue how to work the hob. Instructions would have been very handy, along with some wood for the fire, as we could not check in until later.

A wonderful stay in a gorgeous cottage.

A lovely way to spend Christmas. Perfect location, although it’s quite a walk from the car park so be prepared ! Cottage was clean cosy and beautifully decorated with high end appliances and bedding . The shower was a joy ! The only comments we had : guide on how to use the heating would be useful, also ability to pre purchase or advice in folder on places to buy logs as there is nowhere in Lyme itself. We will definitely return.

The cottage has everything you need and is so cosy and quiet. Plenty of room and very comfortable beds. The shower is wonderful too. It has such gorgeous character with the wood fire and the kitchen has everything you need too as well as a bonus parking permit! I would highly recommend this property and will definitely return.

Very pleased with the booking.

Due to our circumstances changing last minute we were there at a difficult time but the cottage and its location certainly helped us manage this. It is very well appointed and and is conveniently placed for lovely, head clearing walks on the seafront and throughout the surrounding area.

It was cosy, comfortable, and absolutely beautifully decorated, the owners clearly have incredible interior design taste. Every room felt thoughtfully put together, with charming details that made our stay feel really special. We were travelling as a family of four, and the cottage suited us perfectly. All the amenities were high quality and clearly chosen with care, which we really appreciated. From the little touches to the overall comfort, everything contributed to a relaxing and memorable break. Absolutely over the moon with this beautiful and perfect cottage in the heart of Lyme Regis.

Location was lovely and the house very cosy, garden lovely and long and quiet.

We would have liked to have an oven glove, more tea towels and also better quality towels, the ones in the property were very cheap and thin and didn’t live up to the luxury feel of the house. We also lost water for about 24 hours but this was a town wide issue and could not be helped. Also, the shower drain was blocked when we arrived , we had to buy some unblocked to sort it out

Battery on Central Heating panel needs a new battery as is showing 1101 fault which is low battery however this Sid not effect the hot water or heating The shower was amazing There was no fuel logs for the burner so did not get chance to use it a pity as we love wood burners The kitchen mixer tap is very loose and needs attention so we had to take extra care with it Apart from these small things the cottage was very lovley This is generic feedback and in no way a complaint We had a lovely time I do not expect any charges as these things were found when we did our own inventory Our next trip we are looking for a sea front location cottage overlooking the bay in Scarborough with x2 bedrooms dog friendly and car access for end of match if you have any Please let us know also as we are good customers any discounts would be appreciated

The property was gorgeous and it was beautifully maintained.

We had a couple of minor issues when we arrived that were dealt with politely and effectively by the owners. I would say that the access is more difficult than expected even with the text on the listing - particularly on the car park side. The hills are very steep and when you unload at the top of the road you do have to risk it on double yellows which when you’ve packed for a week holiday with two kids requires quite a few trips! It think if you knew what Lyme was like you’d probably expect it more but as newbies I think we were surprised by the steepness. Speaking of steepness, it would have been good to have some form of rail on the stairs as it was a very narrow steep staircase. The property decor is lovely, comfy beds, great shower and the garden a real bonus. We had a lovely stay here and would recommend it for anyone going on holiday to Lyme Regis!

Great location for accessing all that Lyme Regis has to offer.

Property in excellent condition. Minor point for a short stay.....no dishwasher.

The best part of this stay was the enclosed sheltered , and well laid out garden which was perfect for our active young dog.

However having read previous reviews it would appear that none of the suggestions to make Holly Cottage better had been addressed...... Our main concern was the damp in the brick work in both fireplaces, which we're assuming had to do with the recurring problem with the shower as it had just been resealed before our arrival. Also the leak from the soil pipe outside the back door ( both reported to Lyme Bay Holidays.) For a family of four staying for a fortnight the lack of basic kitchen items, instructions, and hanging space in the bedrooms was disappointing.

Perfect location, within minutes of shops,bars,restaurants, activities and the beach and yet so peaceful.

The cottage was full of character with everything you could possibly want and was very clean and maintained to a high standard. The garden was a bonus and larger than expected. We would highly recommend Holly Cottage

Super little cottage in a very quiet location of Lyme Regis.

We had a great time at Holly Cottage which has been well renovated and decorated. Very cosy, very clean and with all the mod cons that you need. Bit of a hike (up and down hill) to the car park but well worth the effort. Couple of suggestions to make things even better, install a handrail to the steep staircase, provide an oven glove and some instructions for the use of the kitchen appliances would be helpful. Otherwise, brilliant. Would highly recommend.

Lovely cottage,well furnished in a very nice and quiet area.

This is our second visit to this cottage this year as it’s so well located and within easy reach of all the local amenities.

The cottage is so lovely and clean, has everything you need. As mentioned in previous feedback some instructions for the cooker would be really helpful. Although we worked it out. Also the bag outside to put the rubbish in was full on arrival again so we were not able to put our rubbish in the bag. Be good if you can get these emptied before a new tennant as it was quite smelly with whatever the previous peoples rubbish was. A rail down the stairs would also help as the staircase is steep and some might struggle. A full length mirror in one of the bedrooms would also be really useful but didn’t affect our visit. Would visit again as we love it down there. The cottage is on a lovely quiet road and was just great to relax and soak up the peaceful location.

We’ve been lucky enough to stay in some wonderful cottages in great locations over the years, but Holly Cottage was absolutely perfect.

The location is ideal — with easy access to shops and just minutes from the beach. The rear garden is a delight, peaceful and private with comfortable furniture and a chiminea. The cottage itself is exceptionally well equipped throughout, spotlessly clean, and incredibly cosy and comfortable. As someone who also owns an older terraced property, I truly appreciated the quality of the renovation — it was wonderful to see that sympathetic, period-appropriate materials were used, with no corners cut or expense spared. I celebrated my 40th birthday here and couldn’t have asked for a better place. I’ll definitely be booking again for next year!

Holly Cottage is a beautiful cottage in a great location.

Newly renovated and very tastefully decorated. We absolutely loved our stay there and would highly recommend. The one area for improvement would be the upstairs shower waste pipe. It’s pours out outside the back door when the shower is in use. Otherwise, this is a lovely little cottage with a sunny back garden!

We have a wonderful stay in the cottage for my birthday.

The cottage has everything you'd need. Great for 4 people or less. Comfortable bed. Goody bag on arrival. Very clean. Also on a very pretty lane, within walking distance of everything you need. I would 100% recommend this cottage.

We loved the cottage as soon as we walked through the door, airy, comfortable, spacious and bright.

All the mod cons that you will for your holiday. A couple of small things that were mentioned on other reviews were a handrail for the stairs might be useful as they are steep. Instructions for the cooker would also be handy but we worked through it. I would also suggest some references to where you can buy logs for the log burner (great hardware store down the road), recommendations on dog friendly pubs and restaurants would also be useful but in general you will find most places accommodate dogs. We highly recommend The Standard down in the parade where we spent most evenings, excellent service can’t do enough for you and the food is fantastic. The owner just happens to be a Greek chef (nice takeaway offering just down from the pub) and they deliver. The cottage was in such a lovely location with everything on hand for you, we loved the opportunity to relax on the sofa and with a glass of wine. Just lovely and would definitely stay there again.

Really lovely cottage with a log burner.

The kitchen oven and hob - yeah, fiddly initially, but once we got the hang of it, was very good for cooking indeed. They just need some more compatible pans - like the steamers don't work on the hob. Not a big deal. Lovely kitchen space for a holiday home with decent worktops and sink etc. There were some small maintenance issues: The backdoor needed the latch tightening to allow you to open the door; the bin still had the last guests' recycle materials in; the fireplace was not cleaned and the back bedroom bedside cabinet drawer fell apart upon opening. None of those things should put you off going here, though. Great location after you off-load from the car (I'd recommend parking at the bottom of the lane and walking up, rather than from the busy road at the top). There's double yellow lines, but unloading is permitted and works well. The cottage is lovely, cosy, warm and tastefully decorated. There's a welcome bag, which is a nice touch, if that's your thing. The parking permit is for a car park only a 5 minute walk away from the bottom of the lane, so is valuable considering the difficulty parking in the town. We had a great time here and would highly recommend it.

Lovely cottage.

Well equipped and nicely decorated. Nice quiet lane and near to the centre of Lyme Regis. The parking was on very steep hill, you then had to park at the top of Sherborne Lane on a double yellow line to pack and unpack the car, not good if you had mobility difficulties. Would be good to know before you book. The heating wasn’t great even if you turned the thermostat high, the radiators were lukewarm. The oven needed the instruction manual as it’s complicated. No mirrors in the bedroom to dry your hair. Just a little more attention to detail needed.

The property was exceptional the only small improvement would be a mirror in the bedrooms, otherwise it was perfect.

Stayed in Holly cottage for 4 nights mid January.

The cottage was very comfortable , clean and in a quiet spot . There are a couple of things that I feel need a mention. First is the car park, although it is not far it's on a very steep hill, not really suitable for elderly or anyone with mobility issues. The stairs would benefit from a handrail as again steep but not many of them. I think a good addition would be some mirrors in the bedrooms. Having said this we would recommend and would happily return. Lyme Regis is a lovely little town.

We had a wonderful stay.

The cottage was beautiful and so Christmassy! The beds were comfortable and everything was high quality. It was so nice having lovely wine glasses to use! Unfortunately the toilet seat was broken and we had some issues with the heating making very loud noises - we appreciate it’s an old house though. Mirrors in the bedrooms would be a welcome addition. Location was perfect. Only disappointment was the holiday agent not ensuring we had the correct rubbish bags so we could recycle our waste.

It was so lovely decorated and felt so homely. It was in the perfect location being right near the high street. I would definitely recommend and will be booking again.

We had a very enjoyable stay at Holly Cottage and found it to be very comfortable, clean and situated in the most ideal place.

Being on Sherbourne Lane, there was no sound of traffic and we enjoyed a very quiet and peaceful time. We spent the days wandering around Lyme Regis, walking along the promenade and visiting the attractions and it was a pleasure to return to Holly Cottage which is a warm and cosy cottage for evenings in.
