Positioned in the popular Chiswell area of Portland it is in the perfect location for water sports enthusiasts with wetsuit drying hooks and hose conveniently in the property. The National Sailing Academy as well as diving and windsurfing facilities are very close.

The spectacular dog friendly Chesil beach, stretches for miles and, literally behind the cottage, can be accessed in seconds. You can walk on top of the bank towards Chesil Beach visitor centre where you can find out more about Dorset wildlife.

If you enjoy fishing, the sea adjacent to the cottage is one of the more popular fishing marks for locals, try and catch your tea while the rest of the family relax in the sun. Alternatively, enjoy a meal and drink at the adjacent Cove Inn which has a terrace overlooking the beach or Quiddles, just along the esplanade which serves fresh seafood. There are also a variety of takeaways, pubs and restaurants including the acclaimed Blue Fish Cafe within a few minutes’ walk. Local shops are also conveniently located a ten-minute stroll away.

Try a walk along the South West coastal path from here which in its entirety is 630 miles long. One of the sections goes around the rugged landscape of the Isle of Portland with three lighthouses, XIII century church ruins, Rufus castle, Portland Harbour and more.

Worst holiday ever for being dirty i didn't want to put my dog down on the floor so had to wash it first, cushions were dirty , windows , carpets, all very dirty.

Work surfaces had to be cleaned so all in all very disgusting. Could use washing machine due to mould in draw. Outside area a mess and front garden full of weeds on arrival. I'm hoping for some compensation , if not won't be booking with Dreams again. Yours sincerely Linda Love

We were disappointed when we arrived at the Cottage because it was grubby and was lacking in basic equipment such as a bread, knife, glasses and other items.

The kitchen equipment was old, worn and dirty. We reported this to our contact and they acted extremely quickly. They replaced many of the old items and ensured we had all the essentials needed for a comfortable stay. They also cleaned the cottage and fixed the broken dishwasher. Our initial disappointment was rectified and we had a fabulous week. The location is incredible and we were blessed with fantastic weather. The sunsets are some of the best we’ve seen. We’d probably look around at other places if we go back to Fortunes Well because although the management company were excellent the cottage was tired and clearly hadn’t had much investment in a long time. It’s in need of more than just a lick of paint for the cost.

Neptune Cottage was lovely, larger than we expected but also cosy and well laid out.

All the appliances including the heating and the log burner were easy to use. It is well located within 1 minutes walk to the beach and buses are along every 10-15 minutes, so you can go all over Portland quickly and easily without using your car. Using a combination of walking some parts of the coastal path and using buses to expedite the journey worked well for us. We will be back!
