Apple Tree Cottage

A lovely friendly little cottage, very cosy and welcoming, in a beautiful part of Dorset.

As soon I got in the front door, I felt at home. Everything you need is here. There was a welcome pack of Dorset tea, Moores biscuits, and chocolate. Pint of fresh milk in the fridge. Also provided were towels, bed linen, toilet paper and washing up liquid. WiFi signal is good; I was happily streaming my music from my NAS server. Personally I don’t drive. I got a taxi from Weymouth station and it was a little over £20 to the cottage. I found I was able to get groceries delivered from Amazon Morrisons; you’ll find the address is valid and they will deliver. (This doesn’t apply to Amazon Fresh, apparently). I got my supplies on the first morning after I arrived. I’m mostly about the walking – beach and cliffs. I found the pathway that leads down to Osmington Mills (it’s on the way to Upton Glen), and in 30 mins you can get to the Smugglers Inn and the rocky beach. I also found the location handy for a half-day walking excursion up to White Nothe and back. As it happened my stay coincided with the UK’s fifth heatwave of 2026. Luckily there was a rotating air cooler in the living room. I also enjoyed the wonderful atmosphere of the partial eclipse one evening. Comfy quarters, good night’s sleep, fresh air, silence, and gorgeous scenery. What more could you want? I’m looking forward to making my next booking here in 2027.

September 25 ,On our arrival , We found everything was beautifully clean , the cottage is small and cosy ,really comfortable bed ,and a well equipped kitchen diner , and a lovely private enclosed garden , very peaceful too , Which was nice and safe for our dogs

A lovely private and secluded annexe, perfect for two people and their dog.

It had all we needed with a decent sized bath and plenty of very hot water. It was well situated for accessing the stunning Dorset coast. I was able to walk to the coastal path -20mins- from the front door and consequently along to places like Durdle Door and Lulworth Cove. If I had to criticize it would be the cleanliness of places like under the bed that was thick with dust. The management of the place lacked warmth - hotel style tray with sachets of coffee, two tea bags and small uht milk pots. The cleaning pack provided dish washer tablets despite there not being a dishwasher. We had to provide our own toilet paper as what was left was not enough. It felt very much like it was done on a budget. Also there isn't much storage space for clothes and cases. None of this impacted on us having a lovely, quiet relaxing holiday and could have happily stayed for much longer.

We liked this very bijou cottage , but wished the access was better , being one with mobility problems I didn’t find the long walk through uneven shingle easy .

The facilities were good and everything worked . We were disappointd in Ringstead beach. though , I had read that it was shingle except at low tide , we had a dog who loves swimming and she found the beach difficult as well . We went to Weymouth instead !

A pretty cottage in a good location for exploring the whole area.

Well equipped. We had a lovely week, good walks with our dog and plenty of beaches for our dog to swim and plenty of places to eat. The only issue we had was twice when it rained heavily, the conservatory roof was extremely noisy during those times and we felt the roof leaked above the chaise which got damp by the arm.

I've just spent a very pleasant week in Apple Tree Cottage with my husband, and our dog Mia.

There's plenty to see and do in the surrounding area with places of interest in easy reach. The countryside in the area is really beautiful. Well worth a visit. Linda and Ian Nr Portsmouth

I thought that the cottage was beautiful, presented wonderfully and it was a joy to stay here, The facilities were fantastic and this made our little holiday fantastic !

The bedroom has a small wardrobe / plant room for the water tank, this did smell heavily of damp and the foul smell was noticeable enough for us to buy a scented candle for the stay, furthermore this cupboard has mouse droppings and a whole in the floor which seemed to be letting the mice in, the droppings were also in the bathroom around the window too. This was not enough to put us off coming back as we understand this sort of issue comes with the territory of being in an isolated location in an old cottage, the cottage was enough to make us overlook these issues. I would genuinely rebook this cottage again and most likely will for next year ! I think these two small issues can be addressed easily and will make this a 100% 5 out of 5 star property.

Apple tree cottage was a little smaller than I expected but I soon got used to its size and found it very comfortable and well equipped.

A great location for visiting all that Dorset has to offer.

Lovely location, just what we’d hoped for with our weekend break with the dog.

Couldn't connect to the wifi but that didn’t bother us and we enjoyed the lack of connectivity. Data was limited but it was a rural location so not unexpected. Hope to stay again in the future.

Lovely and secluded spot, very comfortable and had everything we needed for a short break.

Would have been even better had there been more than 4 items of cutlery and a couple more decent wine glasses perhaps? The water was very hot and could possibly do with being turned down if at all possible and the TV didn’t work, wasn’t a problem as we brought our own Firestick. Perfect walks from the doorstep meant we didn’t use the car much and there was a good pub within a pleasant 25 minute walk. Fab location, would definitely return.

The cottage was small but comfortable .

Super location for visiting attractive villages and nearby beaches - which we did every day . Bed very comfortable, great shower, plenty of hot water and a super hairdryer (trivial point but you rarely get a good one in a holiday let ). It was very warm in the conservatory, but we were there during a hot spell. Great place to stay in an area we know and love. Ringstead Bay glorious for swimming .

Appletree Cottage was absolutely beautiful, so cosy.

Everything was thought of, from having dog toys, bags and a dog towel. It was such a lovely relaxing stay, and I will be definitely recommending it to my friends and family.

Good accomodation there are however a few points that I need to report.

On your directions it states that the signpost to the cottage is to Ringstead Bay but it only says to Ringstead, a bit confusing. The front door is difficult to lock both from inside and outside . The window blind opposite the front door does not retract correctly so it will damage the fabric . The bathroom sink doesn't hold water . We had a problem with WiFi and the TV but your engineer came within an hour of contacting you and returned the TV and rebooted the WiFi so all was ok . Car parking is no easy especially if there are four cars parked as it is blind leaving the cottage onto the lane .

Cleanliness: behind bed headboard & under sofa 3. toilet roll holder hanging off wall 4.No terrestial TV(co-axial cable hanging off of back of TV). 5 Bathroom sink slow to drain, also drains when sink plug fitted (very annoying!) 6.Rat in garden 7. Snail slime across shoes left overnight on kitchen step 8 Parking access difficult with two other cars parked.8 Spare toilet roll and bin liners would have been useful. I think a small refund should be considered here!!!

A nice touch was the treat gifts for the dog. We enjoyed our stay, very peaceful. Thank you.

Super quiet place which felt completely non overlooked Loved the dog welcome pack on arrival Access to the coast and beautiful Jurassic Coast line was amazing Great to also have the option to boost heating since it was colder that we had imagined for a short spring break

Lovely setting, good location and a very nice cottage.

Thought had gone in to providing extras like dog bowls, towels, welcome folder, maps etc which made for a good stay. However, bathroom needed some care and attention as in toilet was leaking and sink was also leaking - bath and shower needed a good deep clean. Kitchen appearance good but cupboard shelves, pots and cutlery needed a thorough clean - we washed pots and glasses before use. Kitchen bin found mouldy lemon and olives in the bottom - gave it a good spray but probably still needs attention.

Apple Tree Cottage - lovely property - a bit small but once we got used to it is very nice with everything we needed.

Only one minor point - bath/shower could do with a bathmat as it is slippy when using shower gel.

Lovely cosy comfy cottage.

We just had to minor niggles. Two of the blinds would not go back up. The solar lights on the walk way only stayed on for a short time.

We loved the area but the cleanliness really let this cottage down.

On arrival I found the cutlery draw had not been cleaned had grease and even a hair.My partner moved the sofa and found a layer of dust underneath.The bathroom had mould on tiles and on wall next to sink.My partner cleaned these off with the anti bacteria spray provided.Such a shame because so much was well thought out.

The fan in the bathroom was not removing the steam was making the right noises but not doing the job.

The shower was leaking via the washer in the head and the water ran alone the tiled part of the bath on to the floor by the sink. There was a musty smell in wardrobe and around the headboard area of the bed. Over all nice place but needs some TLC in some areas mentioned. Over all makes for a base to stay if you have a dog and the parking was good.

We love this place the walks, views, beautiful woods and lovely beach even though it was August the only incredibly busy place was Smugglers Inn which we avoided this visit!

We love the quiet chilled out nature of this place.

Well it was wonderful, my 10-year-old granddaughter thought it was a dream.

Every thing was just right for us two and Harvey our dacshund.

We thought the property was pretty, unusual and interesting.

The kitchen was well equipped and that is important to us. Our dog enjoyed it too. She managed to escape the gate a couple of times but came to no harm. A better latch might be a plan though. We enjoyed the location and managed to walk to the superb Smugglers Arms. Sadly, we only realised that this was possible on the last evening. There were two negatives, for us, but accept that both would be difficult to solve. The conservatory got very, very warm even on moderately sunny days. It was stifelling when we first arrived. It is very small, even for just 2 people and a dog. There was nowhere to store anything. But we still enjoyed our stay. The tiny garden area was charming and gets sun pretty well all day.

In the write up about the cottage it quotes - Settle down at the dining table ready to tuck in, or venture out to the enclosed garden and base yourself amongst the shrubbery as you toast to a memorable retreat; treat yourself to a long soak or warm shower as the dishwasher takes care of your dirty dishes, and spend some extra time completing your skincare routine before winding down in the lovely double bedroom. Although no dishwasher was listed in the kitchen equipment we were further teased to have 2 x dishwasher tablets put out for us! We never did find the dishwasher. Problems with the TV only managed to get BBC iplayer, we don’t go on holiday to watch TV but couldn’t get the other channels quoted in the cottage handbook. Internet was slow or non existent at times but appreciate this maybe the location. Would recommend and the little outside patio is a real sun trap and quiet.

Lounge is in a conservatory which made it very hot and uncomfortable, there is a fan which helps a little, couldn’t open windows. Also fencing is not secure in garden, our dog managed to find her way into next doors garden.
