Description

Tucked between the picturesque Dorset villages of Salwayash and Waytown, and perched on the edge of the stunning Marshwood Vale—part of the Dorset National Landscape -Marles Farmhouse offers the perfect mix of rustic charm and modern comfort. This detached, stone-built gem is surrounded by rolling green fields and approached via peaceful, wooded lanes; secluded and tranquil, with no nearby neighbours (the friendly owner lives discreetly on-site in a converted dairy), it's a true countryside retreat.

Lovingly refurbished in 2015 and thoughtfully updated since, the farmhouse blends original 19th-century features - thick stone walls, exposed beams, and a characterful fireplace - with eco-conscious modern upgrades with solid wall insulation, solar panels with battery storage, biomass heating, EV charging, and water heating systems - all designed to tread lightly on the planet.

Inside, the heart of the home is a huge, stylish kitchen with gleaming granite surfaces, a range cooker, and a spacious dining area perfect for gathering everyone together. After dinner, kick back in front of the cosy wood-burning stove in the sitting room, or head to the family/games room, complete with table football, TV/DVD/Blu-ray, and a Bluetooth-connected sound system - if you feel like a singalong, there’s even a piano for musical evenings.

The layout is ideal for all generations, with a twin bedroom and a shower room on the ground floor, perfect for guests with limited mobility. Two staircases lead to five more bedrooms upstairs - all with peaceful views of the garden and fields. There are two king-size rooms with en-suite showers, two flexible twins (which can convert to doubles) and a room with bunk beds - two further bathrooms round out the upper floor.

Step outside to a sunny rear terrace with picnic benches and a BBQ - ideal for lazy lunches or evening drinks. In the front the enclosed cottage garden overlooks sheep-dotted fields and a chicken coop (don’t worry—no cockerel!), offering a serene setting for morning coffee or wildlife watching - you might spot deer, foxes, owls, or bats. Kids will love the climbing frame, swings, and open-fronted garage with a table tennis setup.

Scenic, spacious, and wonderfully private, Marles Farmhouse is a fantastic base for exploring the very best of Dorset; from countryside walks straight from the front door to beach days at West Bay or Charmouth, and fossil-hunting along the Jurassic Coast to watersports in Weymouth.

I'm writing on behalf of a group of friends who come together once a year to relax and catch up now we all live in different parts of the UK.

This is based in a beautiful rural accommodation. Well equipped kitchen for home cooking which is important as our group likes to sample local produce we cook and prepare when visiting the area - the only issue here being a few of us are on the shorter side and kept having to ask the taller members of our group to retrieve some items from the higher shelves e.g. the bowls, the tea/coffee. Very accommodating host (we ran out of rubbish bags and were brought more by the host's son almost immediately). Some of the puzzles left for entertainment had missing pieces which was frustrating and we found items under a couple of the beds and one of the sofas suggesting cleaners aren't as thorough as you'd expect but this did not spoil our visit. A key concern was not being able to check in until 4, we were at risk of needing to drive the single dirt track in the dark - something many city dwellers are not familiar with. We arrived a bit early to avoid this but could not go to the local pub as it was closed unfortunately so had to wait in our cars after a long drive as it was a cold day. The dining chairs are also uncomfortable if sat at for too long, but we loved having such a large table to use. We had difficulty keeping the fire lit. The beds were very comfy. We were expecting low water pressure given supply runs from the well but the showers were great with no such difficulty. We ordered takeaway one night which was inadvertently delivered to the Cider Farm next door and we could not retrieve leaving us hungry for the night but this is no reflection on the property or the owners.. more beware if you order takeaway for delivery! Also loved talking to the chickens running around the property and watching some of the wildlife. Overall we would absolutely recommend this property to anyone wishing to visit the area in future.

One of the very best holiday rentals we have had.

Absolutely spotless and very comfortable accommodation. The owner was most helpful and made sure we had everything we needed. The house is in a lovely location with plenty of things going on in the area. Thoroughly recommend the property.

Excellent accommodation.

Spacious, clean, comfortable beds, the kitchen had everything you could possibly need. The owner, Seb, was very helpful and friendly but not intrusive . There were walks from the door. A short drive to the coast. A lovely area of Dorset.
