Garden Cottage is a quaint cottage, hidden away within the stunning countryside, north of Castle Douglas.
Up three small steps, you will enter the inviting cottage, complete with modern furnishings and contemporary styling, perfect for a couple’s retreat or a family getaway to Scotland.
Upon entering the cottage, you will discover an elegantly decorated shower room, comprising a walk-in shower, basin and WC, finished with a white, crisp finish throughout.
Next is an open-plan living area, brightly-decorated with comfortable arrangements, perfect for relaxing after a long day out.
In here you will find a well-appointed kitchen, a formal dining area and a cosy sitting space, complete with a three-seater sofa, sat in front of an electric fire and TV.
To the rear of the dwelling, you will find to elegantly appointed bedrooms, comprising two comfortable doubles.
Relax outside on the small seating area, where you can appreciate the stunning countryside views.
For local amenities, the town of Castle Douglas houses a good selection of pubs, food shops and restaurants as well as many tourist and gift shops, situated within 1.5 miles of the cottage.
To explore the area further, head to the Solway Coast, where you will find miles of sandy beaches to enjoy.
Alternately, you can hop on a boat to the Threave House and Gardens, perched on an island in the River Dee, with beautiful surroundings to enjoy.
Enjoy plenty of walking and cycling in Galloway Forest Park and for watersports enthusiasts take a visit to Loch Ken.
Further afield, is the larger town of Dumfries, where you will find a good selection of shops, pubs and restaurants to enjoy, as well as Dumfries Museum, the Robert Burns House and the Garden of Cosmic Speculation.
Garden Cottage is a delightful dwelling, perfect for a romantic getaway from the stunning area.

My wife and I loved Garden Cottage, it was lovely.
Nice and peaceful out of the way of traffic and town noise. It was also not far away from Castle Douglas and other towns. We had days out which were very nice. It was good to come back to the cottage which was very cool jouring the heat wave. Everything we needed was in the cottage. Next year we are hoping to come back to Garden Cottage. Tommy and Joyce.

Cottage lovely everything spotlessly clean the only thing was the tv signal was very poor on itv and any one with small children be carefull cars come passed right outside the front door
Susan your comments are much appreciated and with regard to TV reception, lm told this area is serviced between two transmitters which can cause interference at times between channels.
We have been customers of Sykes for many years and this cottage is top of the class.
Accommodation and furnishings are of a very high standard. Kitchen equipment more than would be needed. Convenient to Castle Douglas and ideal for exploring a wide area of Dumfries and Galloway and indeed further afield. Highly recommended.

Settings for heating were bit strange and bathroom towel rail needed to be on for much longer . Not much point having a washing machine without a drier in Scotland . But thanks , won't stop us from booking again

We welcome and are happy to give guidance through personal contact with our guests, in order to clarify any encountered heating setting issues. Our contact telephone number is available in the cottage. Unfortunately due to kitchen space limitations, we are unable to provide a dryer. Clothing rack available for wet items, stored in bottom cupboard in the bathroom.
Garden Cottage was comfortable, cosy, clean and set in very peaceful surroundings.
We really enjoyed our stay there, exploring Castle Douglas and the many interesting places in the area. We would recommend Threave Gardens, Dalbeattie Museum, the kite feeding station at Laurieston being some of the highlights of our trip. Shopping in Castle Douglas was very good and The Wee Tearoom is a quirky friendly cafe which we enjoyed frequenting.

Clean comfortable and peaceful this is a very good cottage ideally located for lots of attractions and close to town, Castle Douglas.
We have visited the area for years but now need to stay somewhere where there are no stairs this cottage provided that, a couple of steps into the property there was a thoughtful grabrail, and otherwise perfect,

This is a lovely cottage, set near a farm surrounded by beautiful countryside and long views.
It is a good route centre for exploring the delights of Dumfries and Galloway. There are many interesting places to explore and I hope to return again.

This is the second time we have stayed at Garden Cottage.
We continue to say it is the best we have stayed in. It is excellently equipped with an eye for detail. It feels like home from home.

We arrived to a wonderfully clean property (we are always a little apprehensive about how clean a property will be).
The property was also well equipped. The directions and signage to the property was very good. We did have a small problem with the heating not coming on on our first morning but Paul soon remedied that. Contact was also made mid week to check everything was still okay for us. It close to the wonderful coastline (Kippford and Rockcliffe) and also to forest walks (Galloway) golf courses (Brighouse Bay) and towns (Dumfries & Kirkcudbright). We really couldn’t have asked for more from the very comfortable cottage.

Cottage is next to a small lane with no traffic (5 cars in one week) Very clean , nice and warm all the time , well equipped kitchen and bathroom No complaints . Will be booking again in new year . Thanks .

Just one little comment it would be useful to know what the splashback switches controlled,as we mistakenly switched the fridge off at one point looking for the light switch.

Everything was perfect for us. It is very homely and comfortable. If peace and tranquility is what you are looking for then this lovely cottage is for you. We had some fab walks in the wonderful local countryside. Castle Douglas is a great little town. We would deffo stay again. XX

General feedback property excellent.
Our only issue was communication with sykes cottages. Were advised to phone Sykes 2 days beforehand to gain information regarding key collection. Unfortunately the phone lines are no longer manned and advised to download the sykes cottages app, and ask question in the general chat/ what's app.group. This took a long time to achieve left original message at 5pm and finally received an answer the following day at 11am. Basically don't expect a quick response.

Such a lovely property, clean and tidy.
The beds are very comfy, the bedroom on the right has a softer mattress. The kitchen was well equipped. The worst thing about the cottage was the size of the TV, too small for our older eyes. We did have a very relaxing holiday and would love to go back if possible. I was a little surprised that there was no welcome package, first time we have encountered this...we had to go back to the shop for milk before we could have a drink.

Clean and tidy was well maintained.
Slight issue with internet connection was dealt with quickly. Whilst there was a picnic table some chairs would have been appreciated to sit on outdoors when the weather permitted.

What a lovely cottage!
Location is great, peaceful and quiet, I loved watching the rabbits and hares running around. It's just the right distance from Castle Douglas and an ideal base for exploring the whole area. It was super clean, with everything we needed for our stay. I would highly recommend the cottage for anyone who wants a peaceful base to chill out and relax.

When we arrived at Garden Cottage, a gentleman was trying his best to fix the toilet seat, which had come adrift!
He fixed it as well as he could, but needed new parts, which he could not obtain until Monday. He kept in touch with us to let us know what he was planning to do, and came and fitted the seat using the parts which he had obtained. The seat was still a bit wobbly, but manageable! Thank you Robert! Garden Cottage is very comfortable, spotlessly clean, and well equipped. It is in a very quiet spot, the only traffic was 2 or 3 vehicles coming to the nearby business premises. We enjoyed our stay.

Ideally situated for touring the area.
Very quiet location but Castle Douglas with its shops, restaurants and local amenities is a very short distance away. The cottage was clean, facilities were fine. Would recommend this property anytime. Added aah factor for the tiniest rabbit we'd ever seen grazing on the lawn.

Only 1 bedroom was made up so we did not have an option of where to sleep and one of the pillowcases was stained.
We went to make a coffee when we arrived to find 3 cups dirty. You could not amend heating in the bedrooms so was very hot as stayed on all night. Water in the bathroom was dirty and water pressure was inadequate. Although was on a non working farm there was a commercial business 100 yards from the property with vehicles going past the property regularly. The parking space was not available as a picnic bench/table had been placed in that area.
In keeping with my usual practice, l made contact with the guests on their arrival day,specifically encouraging them to be in touch should they have any concerns. On this occasion they chose not to correspond, which is unfortunate, as the choice of bedroom for example,could have been rectified immediately - The bedroom heaters are programmed to come on for a period each morning and evening,and are not on all night - The reportedly dirty water is difficult to understand, as the cottage is directly served with a mains supply from Scottish Water, which is governed by strict laws. There is adequate water pressure, but the mixer tap in the bathroom will reduce the hot water pressure - The guests chose to park their car in the patio area, where the picnic table is situated.This is not for parking, and there is an adequate tarmac parking area just opposite the cottage - There is a right of access to the yard facility beyond the cottage - l am saddened to hear the report of finding unclean cups in the kitchen, and l apologise for this. This issue has never occurred before - If the guests had contacted me about their personal concerns, I would have been in a position to address them and take appropriate action.
We loved our stay in Garden Cottage and both felt at home straight away!
The cottage is beautifully decorated and it was obvious that a lot of thought had gone into every part of every room. We can't wait to return! Lin and Graham

Not easy to find.
Shower very small no room to move about. Wash and basin tiny and shelf above it so bump head when bending over it. Bed not very big think itvsmaller than double. Don’t like that you can’t regulate the heating yourself. Had to move living room chair all the time. Room could be better arranged or even reduce size of kitchen to save moving chair. Don’t like that Sykes don’t tell you where the houses are until you pay in full. There was no way could walk anywhere at niag it was a dark farm track to get to cotto. Would not use this company again. They don’t trust customers.

Nav. will guide you to the end of the tarmac driveway, which leads to the cottage. -The location is convenient to the town of Castle Douglas, on a non working farm setting, and is not isolated. -The temperature in the living room/kitchen area can be manually controlled according to individual preference. -We have displayed clear instructions on how to do so. -Our contact details are available should our guests require any further assistance, and we are always happy to help. -We wish to clarify that both bedrooms are furnished with standard size double beds. -The cottage was refurbished in 2018. This included the installation of a new kitchen and wash room facilities. -Careful planning, and the choice of high quality equipment was a priority, ensuring convenience and practicality for our visitors to the best of our ability. -We don't feel we could improve on the choices we have made.

The cottage was exceptionally clean and has everything required for a self catering holiday.
A car is definitely required as the cottage is about half a mile from main road. However most people visiting the area will probably come by car to explore the beaches and woodland. There are brochures in the cottage with useful tips as to where to visit/eat.
We much appreciate all your positive feedback, and it is comforting to know that you have found everything to your satisfaction.
It is a lovely cottage in a delightful situation, being an ideal centre for exploring the beautiful countryside of Dumfries and Galloway.
Local highlights include the 'Artists' Town' of Kirkudbright, Scotland's 'Book Town' of Wigtown and the (NTS) Threave Gardens and Castle Estate (including Ospreys and Peregrines). I hope to be able to return some day.

We have stayed in this cottage twice now and must say it is the cleanest cottage we have ever stayed in and we’ve stayed in a lot, it’s a very peaceful location and the facilities are very good, all the work that has been done to this cottage has been carried out to a very high standard we will most definitely stay there again in the future god willing.

Been waiting since last year as COVID postponed our holiday, exceeded expectations and was a welcome break from being stuck at home!

Cottage was clean, comfortable and well maintained.
Location was quiet and well away from the working part of the farm. The cottage is surrounded by trees and hedges, which are home to lots of birds Not suitable for young children, however, as the road outside the front door is used to access a light commercial unit. Although there is a 10 mph speed limit, vans frequently went past the cottage at high speed.

Loved the location, just far enough out but still close enough to visit shops etc.
Really enjoyed the surrounding area, would definitely come back to visit in the summer. The cottage itself was very homely with everything you could need except a pint glass so after using a glass jug and a quick trip to Tesco there are now 4 for others to enjoy

The cottage was clean and comfortable but the location very isolated.
This was not made clear in the description. It was a mile down a remote farm road/track to the main road into Castle Douglas, and almost a further mile into the town.
It gives us great pleasure when we read that you found the cottage both clean and comfortable. We sincerely appreciate, and thank you for these favourable comments. Also, we acknowledge your remarks regarding the Cottage location, and wish to respond. Garden Cottage is furnished with a private, tarmac avenue, which is accessible via a single lane Council road (approximately 0.5 miles in length). We wish to clarify the commencement of this roadway is within three hundred meters from the thirty mile speed limit, on the main Ayr Road, leading to Castle Douglas. Therefore, we are unable to except the suggestion it is in anyway remote or isolated. Throughout the past twenty years, this is the first time anyone has raised the issue of the location being remote,or isolated and indeed our Guests have highlighted the benefits of the conveniently situated Cottage. Some visitors reporting they have walked to Castle Douglas for a meal; a distance of approximately 1.5 miles.
Everything apart from the weather was absolutely wonderful.
However that did allow us to enjoy the comfort and peace of the cottage. So many diverse things to enjoy within a short distance. Would love to return

A very clean and comfortable cottage in a quiet farm location but with quick and easy access to Castle Douglas by car.
The cottage had all essential services and a good internet signal. The cottage was freshly decorated and well presented with a homely feel. No hesitation in recommending for a quiet holiday yet with easy access to the local town and the lovely Galloway countryside.

Very nice clean cottage ample parking space nice and comfortable very well equipped, we would definitely use this particular cottage again, thank you to the owners for a very nice little break.
It is a very quite location and very good for a relaxing holiday in the country side but still close to the town.
Ps. The directions to the cottage could be better described as it took some time to find it as it is on a single lane road which could be easily missed. Possibly------ Follow the A713 from Castle Douglas until you pass the Castle Douglas Golf course on the left. You will then see approximately 200 yards/meters further on, a road bridge with national restriction speeds signs on either side on passing under the bridge (A75) there is a paddock and a house on the right. Take the crown of the road as there is a single track road between the house and the industrial type "Scotish Bakery" buildings on the right hand side of the single track road . The single track road goes between the house and industrial buildings. Turn into this lane and continue approx. 200 yards/meters turn left at the T junction carry on and turn right approx. 150 yards/ meters at the cowsheds, continue on passed a house on the right then a house on the left. There is Garden Cottage on the right.
