Torkeld Holiday Cottage

We were made very welcome with the owners leaving some basic supplies including fresh eggs.

As this was our first experience of letting a holiday cottage I would highly recommend it.

Love it.

The location is perfect. Short walk to the beach. Great pub. The area is so peaceful. Locals really friendly. If you want bright lights and entertainment this is not for you.

This little gem met and exceeded our expectations.

Its spacious light and airy our aging dogs loved the lack of steps and the huge enclosed garden . We loved the terrace and had several glasses of wine soaking up the peace and tranquility.the owners next door were there but not intrusive. We found 6 free range eggs on our doorstep from their hens . The whole cottage has been redecorated and is much nicer than the photos show. We will definitely return

This was our second visit to Torkeld Cottage.

We love the quiet location and short walk to the sea. Everything was clean and as described in the listing, although it has been redecorated since the photos were taken, so the listing needs to be updated to show how lovely it is.

The dining table comes with 2 fold away stools which are very uncomfortable and therefore make the dining experience poor, aside from that the cottage is spacious and comfy.

It's located in a very quiet village with a great pub and good walking areas. The enclosed garden area is great and a real bonus if the weather is good. The owners livein the adjoining property and we're very pleasant.

We had a fantastic time and would definitely book again Kelly Johnathan and children are lovely our dog loved it being so close to the beach and there are plenty of walks around would definitely recommend to anyone

A return visit and probably not our last.

Mixed week of weather but local and distant walks and visits kept us fully occupied. A big thank you to Jonathan & Co. for their assistance with a punctured tyre!

Lovely well furnished , well maintained, comfortable property.

The owners were very friendly and helpful nothing was too much trouble Our dog Bailey really enjoyed the totally secure and very large garden We will definitely return Thank you Kelly for sharing your lovely comfortable cottage with us.

Cottage was clean .

Unfortunately there were air fresh plugs in sockets smell over powering. No cushions on chairs. Bed had nylon type sheets on . No soaps for washing up or hand washing , that is a throw back when it wasn’t supplied and you knew to take your own . No bin provide to put in used bedding in .

Lovely village and property in a quiet corner, 5 mins walk to beach, with enclosed garden for Mac (Scottie).

We had issues with television and could not find any instructions but the owner came and sorted it immediately. Plenty of cupboard space in kitchen, but a bit spartan, no scissors or measuring jug etc. Weather was beautiful and we enjoyed our holiday very much.

Our 3rd time staying at Torkeld.

It has everything we need as a base for exploring the surrounding area. Our recent visit was in early spring , the heating system made for a very cosy place to stay even when we visited in the early spring.

Sadly I lost my dog last year but Torkeld has a huge secure garden for your pooch,5 mins walk to beach and Harbour Inn pub all dog friendly.

A lovely cottage minutes from the beach.

It was well equipped cosy but spacious lovely comfy bed and an ideal garden for the dogs We rarely had to use our car as there were so many wslks from the door. The gardens and beach at Galloway House were a beautiful circular walk, and the walk to Innerwell was stunning. The Hive Cafe is dog friendly and has delicious food so well worth a visit or two. Very well placed if you want to see more places along the coast.

Fantastic cottage.

Everything you need provided and very clean. Lovely quiet location and easy walk to beach. The garden at cottage is totally enclosed so great for dog. Owners are lovely and friendly but not obtrusive. A real gem of a cottage. Thank you.

The cottage was lovely and clean, very comfortable and well equipped, but perhaps could do with a couple more dinner and side plates.

The owners Kelly and Jonathan had kindly put the heating on for us. Our dogs enjoyed the garden as it was safe for them to run around. Garlieston is very convenient for touring the area and the locals are very friendly.

Really good nice and tidy and the people that owned the property are very helpful and down to earth me and my partner got on really well with the family thank you for a really good holiday x

A lovely cottage, in an ideal situation for us.

The owner left us alone to enjoy our holiday, except when we had a problem with a toaster. This she resolved immediately for us. She also very kindly posted to me very promptly an item I had foolishly left in the property. A very enjoyable stay.

Torkeld Cottage is a beautiful well maintained place to stay.

The hosts Kelly and Jonathan are friendly and very obliging. We have been a few times and have never been disappointed. Kelly is always there to greet her guests with a friendly smile. The garden is great for the dog and it too is very well maintained and walking straight out onto the decking is a bonus. There is also a proper place to park the car safely. All in all a great experience and we will definitely be back.

The beach is very close to, a nice walk and a very good pub with great food, Wednesday night is fish and chip night from the van which visits the village. All iin all a very good holiday

We had a warm welcome followed by a lovely week.

The property was excellent in everything. A good base for coastal walks, great gardens to visit and interesting countryside. Links to D-day beaches was very interesting We find it hard to believe believe Jayne's review, a few weeks before our stay, referred to the same place! Our loudest noise was a blackbird singing.

Extremely disappointing- the toilet was badly marked, the mattress was awful, covered in stains.

The cottage itself is just part of the owner’s house, separated by a door with a fridge freezer in front of it. The owners have five dogs - a fence divides the two areas. A great deal of barking and growling at our dogs! We left after an hour - 300 miles from home with nowhere to stay. Sykes were very unhelpful even though we followed their complaint procedure to the letter. An altogether bad and upsetting experience!

We enjoyed our stay in your cosy cottage, added bonus was the decking area ideal for sitting out with a coffee, watching the birds on the feeders.

We found Garlieston a very nice village with a good pub and a cafe, also fish and chip van on Wednesdays. Thank you Kelly andJonathan for the eggs, milk, cake and flowers much appreciated.

The location was perfect a walk to the beach for us and the dog and a very good pub with v good food and roaring fire.

The kitchen equipment rethink there was nothing to fry an egg utensil wise ! otherwise OK. we enjoyed the holiday very much.

Very warm and comfortable cottage. Nice touch having welcome pack and liked secure garden area for our dog. Gorgeous area for walks. The local pub is one of best we've been in. Good food and so cosy. Only up road from cottage so very handy. The sea front is lovely in Garlieston and just up road too. Bonny place.

We had a lovely holiday at Torkeld in July, the cottage was comfortable and had everything you need.

We had great weather and spent a lot of time on the raised deck in the garden. The owners were really friendly and nothing was too much trouble. The garden is secure and our Border Terrier loved it, the beach is just down the lane. In all it is an ideal location for a holiday.

Torkeld cottage is a lovely place to stay, it is as described, clean and tidy and the owners are very accommodating.

Ideal location to explore the area. A well equipped holiday cottage, comfortable lounge and well equipped kitchen and ideal for those with mobility issues. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

The cottage is everything described and more, a true home from home.

It is well equipped with everything to hand. It is spacious yet very cosy and comfortable.

we were welcomed by host and been left some milk and cake, which was lovely.

However the images for this property need updating as they are not a true reflection of what it is like. Although the bed was comfortable the bedding had seen better days and the pillows were dreadful. Underneath the sofas need a deep clean. We dropped something and went to retrieve it only to discover lots of dust and hair underneath them. Sorry but very disappointing generally. If you do sit out in the garden the view is basically the owners yard full of stuff, which folk need to be aware of.

Me, my husband and the dog had a wonderful relaxing week at Tolkeld.

The weather was on our side sun ever day. After walks on the beach and visiting other areas along the coast, it was nice to sit in the garden which was well secured for our little one. The Harbour Inn is a must lovely meals and Wednesday the fish and chip van beautiful. Can't fault anything about this break and excellent value. The owners are very welcoming and accommodating.

Owners were welcoming, helpful & live right next door so available in person or on the phone if required. Garlieston itself nice & quiet with lovely choice of food at The Harbour Inn & The Hive. We would definitely return here in the future & would recommend unreservedly!

We have stayed at numerous venues in the past and I am glad to say that this was one of the best yet.

The Local area was stunning and steeped in history. The cottage was great and the owners, although on hand were unobtrusive. Would certainly recommend a stay and will be revisiting in the future

Great place to stay and my dogs loved it.

Its great as you are 100m to the pub and 200m to a beach 2 1/2 miles walk away. The accomodation is a little quirky, but very comfortable and dies what you need.

Torkeld cottage had everything we needed, was very comfortable and warm. It was also perfect for dogs with an enclosed garden. The owners made us feel very welcome and left us some essentials and a bottle of wine which was so kind of them. Would definately love to return.

Had a lovely stay here for my husbands 60th, lovely quite stay, beach 2 minutes walk away, lovely people made our stay very relaxed, Johnathan & Kelly very nice people, leave your alone and nothing to much trouble, definitely book again and would recommend.

The property had everything we needed for our stay. A lovely welcome pack awaited us on arrival. A five minute walk to the local pub. Plenty of good walks close by for the dog. We are already thinking of a return visit next year.

Anyone looking for a total relaxing and peaceful holiday we would highly recommend Tolkend cottage and great cottage also designed for a disabled person. We will be returning to this cottage again at some time in the future.

It was not stated that the accommodation was attached to owners home.

I wouldn't have booked had I known this (only a door in the kitchen with a freezer in front of it separated homes). Don't recycle. No wardrobe, only a hall cupboard with a rack for clothes so we lived out of cases for the week. Cooker dials worn so couldn't tell what was what and no instructions. No books or dvds as stated in description. I would rate as a 2 star. Positives were garden and welcome pack.

Nice quiet location close to the sea and the local pub. The accommodation is comfortable and has all you need for a good break. The fish and chip van calls on a Wednesday 4pm-7pm.

This cottage is in a quiet little harbour village that has a friendly pub all the locals were happy to chat with you and tell you where about to go on days out.

I would recommend visiting the galloway forest, Montieth beach we did visit quite a few places which we enjoyed while staying at the cottage. The owners left us a lovely welcome pack which was appreciated. The cottage was ideal for two adults and our two dogs who enjoyed playing in the enclosed garden at the front of property. Nice base to relax but you do have to travel out a-bit to visit the surrounding areas which wasn’t a problem to us … We would go back as there is still a lot we haven’t seen around that area yet …

All necessary facilities available (would benefit from a couple of extra bowls) and lounge is very comfortable.Whole area (in particular local pub) is very friendly and welcoming .

Kelly and Jonathan were the perfect hosts whilst we were on holiday at Torkeld Cottage for two weeks 29/10/21 to 12/11/21,the cottage is well equiped cosy clean and warm.

A lovely gesture on our arrival was Eggs. Milk.Flowers and a bottle of Wine had been provided. We could not have wished to have stayed at a better place and location, Both Kelly and Jonathan and their family made us feel very welcome. Highlight Halloween night fantastic effort in decorating their own proprties and the entire village. We were invited to take part and go round with their children and many other children what a wonderful happy experience. Garlieston offers some fantasic places to visit around Rigg Bay Garlieston House and Gardens.7 Miles away you can visit The Isle of Whithorn and many other places of interest.

Kelly and Jonathon were fantastic and so accommodating. Torkeld cottage is a fantastic base for exploring that area of Scotland, were definitely going back. Port Patrick is stunning well worth a visit, Our little four legged friend also enjoyed himself in the beautifully kept garden, and his first time on the beach.

Felt very safe at the cottage amidst the pandemic. High degree of cleaning materials, sanitisers etc provided by owners. Nothing a problem with them at all. Thank you for the welcome pack. Very secure garden for the dogs (1 whippet and 1 lurcher who can escape from his shadow!). Very pet friendly owners and area as a whole. Plenty of room for dog cages inside property. No throws etc at the moment but took our own anyway Can not fault this property at all. Thank you for having us.

Positive: The cottage is in a lovely quiet location and a few yards away from the beach and harbour.

Very nice enclosed garden with seating and table to relax after a day out exploring. Large lounge with two settee's , large kitchen with fridge freezer and washing machine .Pub in the village which we did not use but reviews are good. Small shop with essentials close to village, nearest supermarket in Newton Stewart. Thoroughly enjoyed exploring the surrounding area and made very welcome by the locals. Fish and chip van calls in the village on Friday evenings and they are very good. Negative: Despite the fact that the time of arrival had been moved to 4pm because of Covid safe preparation the cottage did not meet my expectations of cleanliness. No wardrobe in the cottage so had to use the clothes airer to hang our clothes. We don't expect a welcome pack but after a 4 hour drive it would have been nice if at least a pint of milk was in the fridge so we could have made a cup of tea.

Comfortable cottage in a nice location.

Jonathon was very helpful & friendly.

The peace and quiet is unbelievable, all we could hear was the stream gushing by at the end of the garden and the birds.

Lots of lovely places to visit nearby and the beach close to the cottage, not to mention the many woodland and forest walks making for happy times with the dogs. All in all a perfect holiday in every way. Kelly and Johnathon, friends and family were very kind and friendly, as was everyone we met.

A lovely cottage set in a beautiful and peaceful seaside location.

Perfect for my disabled husband. Garlieston is a little known historical village easily accessible for a wheelchair. The cottage is bigger than expected, clean and has everything you need for a relaxing holiday. There are lots of nearby places to visit with interesting history or local craft and culture. Highly recommend and would certainly go back.

Just a couple of hundred yards to the beach and a very good pub/restauant. The owners were very friendly and helpful. The garden was great for our two dogs.

Garlieston is a great little village, great food in the local pub and the accommodation is very pet friendly, big secure garden for my dog also off road parking, plenty big enough for 2 people, had a great holiday

Living room and kitchen area is large as is the bathroom. Very large garden and adjoining babbling brook and fields but 5 mins walk to the sea and pub. Great walks, very peaceful location. Added bonus of sky tv and WiFi, not that I used it a lot! Long sandy beaches idea for dog walks. welcome pack was good too.

We loved pet friendly Torkeld cottage.

It had everything we needed. It was clean, comfortable and welcoming. Garlieston is a beautiful, quiet village. Lots of walks and wildlife to watch. The Harbour inn was very good, dogs welcome and vegans catered for. We would have stayed for another week had the cottage been vacant! Wigtown was brilliant with its book shops and vegan cafe. It was another great holiday with Sykes cottages.

We have stayed in many cottages over the years and this at The very top.

The cottage was probably the best we have so far booked with you.

Certainly for value and for been made welcome, the village its self was very quiet but we never got bored great walks lots of places of interest to go and see either by car or the local bus. The owners Johnathan and Kelly were always available if you needed them for advice or help. Local ammenities are limited the local pub does great food and there is a little shop be aware the garage only sold diesel but there are petrol stations around the villages. We would certainly recommend this cottage and certainly consider going again.

The owners were lovely - there if we needed them but not intrusive at all.

The heating was on on our arrival, there were fresh flowers in the lounge, milk in the fridge and a chocolate cake awaiting us. Little touches which meant a lot. The pub was only 5 minutes away walking where we were able to get a lovely meal. Friendly staff and dog friendly - what more could you ask for? Garlieston is a lovely little seaside village, very quiet at this time of the year which is what we were looking for. All in all, everything we could have wished for.

Lovely cosy cottage and comfortable.

Having the sky TV was good when we were relaxing in the evening. Lovely beach and safe, our little dog loved to rush down every morning and try to catch the sea gulls. Good Food at pub and dogs welcome. Owners left generous gift of eggs and cake. Would like to go again.

An Absolutely Stunning little Holiday Cottage, A Lot of work has obviously gone into making it what it is, A lovely Secure garden meant we had 2 very Happy Dogs all week and we felt totally Relaxed.

Very much enjoyed the area and the bungalow, only no hanging space for clothes in bedroom or bathroom, some hooks in bathroom for dressing gowns would be good.

This cottage is a real gem and we enjoyed every minute of our stay.

We were made to feel very welcome with tea/coffee etc available on arrival which was a godsend after a long journey. The owners are extremely friendly and helpful who genuinely have an interest in making your stay the best it can be. The cottage is ideally placed minutes from the beach which was great for our dogs. Dumfries and Galloway is an amazing place and we have never felt so relaxed in a long time. We would heartily recommend this cottage to anyone!

Just got back having stayed here for 1 week the cottage was fabulous lots of room and everything you need for a comfortable stay.

Cooking facilities pots and pans very basic,could do with a non stick frying pan Sounds nit picking as everything else was spot on, the dogs loved the garden and sky sports was a bonus.

A lovely welcome from Kelly she gave me flowers and a well made starter pack of fresh produce, cottage was lovely and ideal.

Garden was a great size for the dog, couldn't ask for anything more from the owners the help they gave me.

The owners Johnathan and Kelly were brilliant, nothing was too much trouble for them.

The property is very spacious and the surrounding area is absolutely breathtaking with plenty of places to go walking with the dog. We are hoping to go back later in the year for another week with our son.

The bunglow is lovely clean furniture was clean no dog hairs.

We got there no need for towels or bedding all in. washing machine if you get dirty on the beach, tiny fishing port the locals are so friendly. Go for a meal at the harbour inn on the front food excellent and lots of it dogs are allowed in. But Kelly and Jonathan to lovely people so help full. Wish I could give then more than 10/10, we are going back when we sort our selves out brill holiday. Thank you Linda Rob and smiling dog.

This was a very comfortable and warm cottage containing everything we needed for our break.

The owners were very caring and friendly. Nothing was too much bother for them. The access is very good and the fenced off garden excellent for the dogs.

Nice and clean only problem was last people must of had dogs as the smell was not nice had to open windows to air it out Other than that spot on

There was a nice welcome waiting, with eggs, tea, and coffee provided by the owners.

This cottage is also ideal for dog lovers, as the side door to the cottage,opens up to a totally enclosed garden, ideal for keeping an eye on your favourite pooch. The local inn was comforting and welcoming and serves a tasty meal.

The cottage ,it's location and the couple who run it are spot on if you want a nice warm cosy place to relax and get away from the world.

No everything was very straightforward.
