Lovely cosy, clean cottage.

Great location for walks and touring the area.

Excellent location, close to shops, cafes and pubs.

Good secure garden if you have a dog, with extensive walks very close to property. Garden is down steep wooden steps though. House is comfortable and well equipped but downstairs needs some maintenance.

Le cottage est charmant et atypique avec sa cuisine en contrebas de l’escalier et le jardin qui est très agréable.

Il est cependant vieillissant et de nombreux meubles sont abîmés. Il est bien équipé mais là aussi des équipements devraient être renouvelés. Il n’y avait pas de cafetière (pourtant visible sur les photos qui soit dit en passant ne sont plus vraiment conformes). Nous avons laissé un message à la propriétaire qui ne nous a jamais rappelé. Le point le plus négatif est l’entretient global. Au delà des meubles, les placards et tiroirs sont sales, les encadrements de fenêtres aussi, et j’en passe. Les coussins du salon, le tapis, les plaids et couvertures et encore pire le linge de lit sont tachés ce que je trouve inacceptable. Nous avons pu nous accommoder de certains désagréments mais ceci est incompréhensible. Quand on loue, on se doit d’investir et de renouveler pour garantir des prestations dignes de ce nom.

Gatehouse of Fleet is a great base for the area but sadly the cottage requires a lot of maintenance to keep to a letting standard.

The wash hand basin waste was very blocked and no one could help when reported to the cleaners / maintenance contacts . There were numerous other problems- Newel post top on staircase was loose Toilet roll holder falling to pieces Bathroom spotlight over shower not working Kitchen - the cupboards that actually had doors would not close properly and need new hinges , the cutlery drawer runners needed replacing as drawer would jam on closing , doors required to 3 cupboards as items getting dirty inside .Blinds to landing and bathroom very poor . Blood stains on pillow protectors when bedding stripped. Back door Yale lock difficult to unsnib. We replaced a light bulb in the kitchen whilst there. It is a shame as the cottage would be lovely with a bit of tlc and a small investment, it is spacious and has a lovely garden Definitely should only be let at a budget price

Fantastic stay lovely cottage clean dogs loved it one so much he chewed the tv remote understanding owners this was replaced dog chastised lol would happily stay here again the walks are lovely very close to the property the pubs are better

Pleasant village and near to the coast and Galloway forest .

This was our third stay in this comfortable, homely cottage.

It's a favourite of ours, partly due to it's situation right across the street from the lovely woods and park for walking the dog. Also, The Mill on the Fleet is right behind the house, and we love to visit for coffee, local craft work and the secondhand bookshop! Unfortunately, the cottage is now not so suitable as our dog is almost 14, and had real difficulty with the two steps down into the kitchen, and we couldn't let him out in the back garden because of the steep steps which he managed previously. I would recommend the cottage to anyone with a dog who is younger and fitter than our boy!

Lovely house in friendly village.

Kitchen is very small but functional, perfect base for a relaxing stay in Dumfries and Galloway.

We had to eat out as the oven was grotty as was the drawers which contained the cutlery on the morning of our departure we stripped the bed and found the pillows were stained if we had seen them before we would not have been staying on the Friday before we left there was a parcel delivered and the woman next door came to collect it we asked if see cleaned for the owner and she said yes we looked at one another and she asked why I said about the cooker and she said she had been telling the owner about it for ages she said we were lucky as there was a new microwave just put in and said you want to have seen the state of the last one so no will not be back and would not recommend I do not understand why no-one else commented on it wether they were too polite I don't know but.

i would say it hasn't been cleaned for years rather than months

The exterior of the property is off-putting as the paint is peeling off the walls.

The interior, however, is very cosy and comfortable although the decor is a bit tired. The bedrooms are spacious and the beds super comfortable. Great shower too. The garden at the back is a big plus and the location is brilliant with shops, restaurants and pubs just a few minutes walk away. Gatehouse is a lovely little town and the local countryside very beautiful. All in all a great base for exploring the area. We'd definitely use again.

Fantastic cottage.

Location perfect for us as many walks straight from the front door. Shop and excellent cafe 100yds. The property was very cosy. A well stocked kitchen and good tv/wifi. No issues. Highly recommend.

The cottage was immaculately clean.

The kitchen was well equipped for our needs. The garden was good and well enclosed for the dogs. Great to see that the TV had all the streaming channels for the kids given the weather was changeable. My only criticism is the pillows, they really need changing as they are thin, flat,and uncomfortable. Otherwise fabulous

As I wrote in the visitors' book, we had a lovely time in Dumfries and Galloway and enjoyed being at 79 Laurel Bank.

Great location, peaceful garden and a cosy ambience in the cottage. The neighbours on each side are extremely friendly and very helpful. I would have no hesitation in recommending number 79 to friends.

A great base, very helpful friendly neighbours and their pets. Lovely village and central for getting out walking, visiting local towns as well as gorgeous gardens. Lovely weather so made good use of garden. Down lots of back steps, not an issue for us and well kept. Bright house, quiet despite being on main road. We'll be back!

Local shops and produce on the doorstep. Cottage was clean and in good order. Neighbour helpful and friendly. Yes I would recommend this property

We had a most enjoyable stay at Laurel Bank the property has all we needed Heating is remarkably good warming up quickly on return from trips out.

Beds comfortable and sufficient storage for clothing. Never bothered with rear garden as it was November bit cool sitting out but looked dog secure. Parking can be busy though free car park just over the road. Local shops have a good supply of your day to day essentials and even the option of having a coffee. Would certainly return if opportunity presents itself. Thank you

Lovely, peaceful and well placed cottage for enjoying the area.

Very comfortable and spacious with enclosed garden for dogs or sitting out. Mostly clean and well maintained throughout, but a couple of things not quite right, mainly the oven not clean, a note was left for the owners hoping it would easily be remedied for the next guests.

We enjoyed our stay in this lovely house in one of our favourite villages in Dumfries and Galloway.

There is access to Garrie's Wood just across the road from the house, which is perfect for dog-walking. This was the second time we stayed here, and everything was clean and comfortable. We had a slight problem with the central heating when we arrived, but the owner came very speedily and sorted it out for us. We loved the fact that we could go out the gate in the garden to get to the Mill of the Fleet, which we really enjoyed visiting several times during our stay. All in all, we had a great holiday here, and would definitely book again.

We found the property ideal,the location for us perfect.

The only fault is the step down into the kitchen,it caught us out a few times. We thought a slope would be safer.

The Galloway hills are remote, tough and beautiful walking. Also handy to have a decent pub with a couple of real ales on in town.

Excellent comfy house.

Great Central basefor accessing all areas. Neighbours and locals all very chatty and friendly. We def intend to comeback for another stay. Weather wasfreat so made use of the garden. Handy for Spar and local eating out options.Only thing missing was some coffee making facility, a cheap cafetiere would do fine for most folk I think.

Gatehouse was a surprisingly nice place to stay in and to explore the surrounding area.

We really enjoyed our stay. We had brunch every day .at the Mill (with art gallery) by the river, and the parkland across the road was a great place to walk our dogs. The house itself was clean and comfortable, and a good base, and the neighbours especially were very friendly and welcoming

The property was well equipped, except for only having 1 tea towel, considering that there is no dishwasher this was a little tricky.

We were a little disconcerted when we awoke Tuesday morning to discover someone had hung their washing on the line in the rental property garden!

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Gatehouse of Fleet.

It is a beautiful village in a lovely area with walks, beaches and good eating and drinking options. The cottage was well located and well equipped. There was plenty of space and it was generally comfortable. The garden was nice and a great space for outdoor dining, though could do with a bit of a spruce up. The only other issue was that we found the bed too soft. That may be our preference

Plenty of walks from the front door for the dogs. The village is very friendly and being opposite the Spar shop was helpful for all the items that you forget.

The holiday cottage was very good.

But I won’t book with Sykes again ever. They were impossible to communicate with as they did not answer the phone or reply to emails when we wanted to change our booking. Shocking customer service.

Due to covid some items had been removed when we got there but we managed alright , bus stop across the road from the house , spar shop about 3 minute walk away with good range of stuff .

Ideal base for exploring a lovely part of the region.

Close to coast and countryside and cycling routes. Plenty of walks close by. The house itself is cosy warm and extremely well situated to enjoy the town and its amenities. Local hotels and restaurants serving delicious food.

We expect high standards from Sykes and were not disappointed.

The house was warm and cosy, scrupulously clean and had everything we needed for our stay. The area is fantastic and there was lots to see and do, plenty of places to eat and drink and lovely friendly people to talk to. Towns are notably litter free although recyclying facilities are poor. Our nearest card / paper/ cans recycling facility was ten miles away so we brought our recyclable rubbish home with us. On a tiny note, it is nice to have the option of both bath and shower but the bath would only be suitable for thin people. We are intending to rebook this house again over Christmas next year.

Fabulous cottage roomy, comfortable and very well appointed.

Located in a beautiful place and an excellent centre for touring. Very reasonably priced- 5 stars all the way!!!

We had a very nice week at Laurel Bank Cottage.

Village very well served with cafes and hotels. The local people are extremely friendly. Decent public transport throughout the area. Local shop directly opposite opens early till late very convenient. We were very satisfied and will be booking another cottage soon.

House was just about everything we expected. The only downside was the soft mattress on the double bed.

Lovely, well equipped property.

Very well placed for local amenities, especially the second hand bookshop at The Mill on the Fleet! Lots of things to do and places to eat nearby and further afield. We took the ferry across to Belfast (£10 each as a foot passenger - bargain!), to visit the Titanic Experience.

The next door neighbours gate at the front was very distracting.

The blind in the bathroom was too difficult to pull up and down. A handle on the wall of the bath/shower would be useful. The steps to the garden were very steep snd the chicken wire hurt the dog's feet. It would not be ok for handicapped persons. Liked the location to all amenities.

The best cottage we’ve stayed in, really dog friendly and comfortable.

Spotlessly clean and warm. Great town with friendly people in a beautiful area. There are walks outside the front door and a handy Spa store across the road that opens early and stay open late for anything you might need during your stay. Perfect place, we will be going back.

79 Laurel Bank, is a wonderful base for a holiday in Dumfries & Galloway.

The property has a lovely homely feel and is well equipped for a family (&dogs). The slow cooker was well used as we left dinner cooking while we headed off out and about. Gatehouse is a lovely town with friendly people and is a perfect base for visiting the surrounding coast line, forest or family attractions

Thoroughly enjoyed the whole holiday, the house is lovely, very comfortable and clean.

The village is very friendly and welcoming. and would have no hesitation in recommending the house and village.

Lovely holiday house in the middle of Gatehouse of Fleet convenient for shops, pups and Galloway Forest.

The house is very comfortable with excellent facilities in the house including broadband. Lovely private garden to use with patio table and chairs. All in all this is a wonderful holiday house which I thoroughly recommend.

The cottage was lovely, central location, everything you need was provided, lost a point for comfort because the bed was awful, very uncomfortable, The cottage was 2 min walk to shop, there is a couple of pubs in village that serve meals, there is a park opposite the cottage with woodland walks, I would definitely book this, cottage again if the bed was changed,

Overall the accommodation was very satisfactory, being comfortable, cosy and well-situated.

The heating was effective (and necessary due to the cool weather) and the TV and WiFi worked well. Although on the main street, the house is usually very quiet and has a pleasant outlook. The view over the river and woods to the rear is also nice and it was warm enough one day to sit in the peaceful garden. There is some noise from next door and at times it sounded as if someone was going up and down our stairs. The neighbours’ front door is particularly noisy although the occupants aren’t. The kitchen was well-equipped and the hob very efficient. The only item lacking was a pair of scissors. The bathroom is modern and very smart though the shower screen is not extensive enough to prevent splashing on the floor. The toilet seat is not secure and lurches sideways a little in an alarming manner each time one sits down. From comments made in the guestbook, it was evident that this problem has existed for over a year; perhaps it is very difficult to remedy. We didn’t find the double bed as comfortable as our own; it is obviously a matter of personal taste but we would have preferred a wider, firmer mattress. Having said that, we slept OK and didn’t wake with a stiff back. The town and area are lovely and we didn’t feel the need to use the car much as there are some great walks starting in the town. We ate twice at The Masonic Arms and once at The Murray Arms, the former being excellent. Their new conservatory is beautiful and a very pleasant place to dine; the service was friendly and efficient. Despite the above-mentioned reservations we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would be happy to return.

This cottage is warm, well equipped, clean, nicely decorated and furnished and is ideally situated for all the amenities Gatehouse of Fleet and the surrounding area has to offer.

All the family loved staying here, the property had a lovely homely feel to it.
