We had a lovely stay at Glebe cottage the local woodland walks were great.

The cows came down to see us each day which was lovely as we sat outside in the gardens. Our dogs loved the gardens. The house had everything we wanted to a high standard. Our only issue was the oven that didn't heat up enough so food took so much longer. Everything else was great

Absolutely brilliant we have travelled all around Scotland and this place is right up there with the best ideal walks straight from the cottage the cottage itself is great very clean and comfortable and the area is tops plenty of wildlife.

We've stayed at Glebe Cottage several times now as we enjoy the quiet location so much.

Ae Forest at the end of the road is perfect for both of our rescue dogs. The detached bungalow with very comfortable beds is well maintained & of the highest standard of cleanliness. All the little extras provided are much appreciated too. The only minor suggestion would be for new kitchen utensils to use on the frying pan. Beaches, forests & small towns such as Moffat all within easy reach offered varied days out. We hope to return again next year, thank you.

Glebe Cottage is in a nice, quiet remote location with great access to Ae Forest.

The cottage was clean and tidy, with a little welcome pack which included some milk (very much appreciated), a selection of teabags and some biscuits! The beds were comfortable, which was nice after a long day out. The underfloor heating made the cottage feel nice and cozy.

We wanted somewhere to keep the dogs away from the fireworks on NYE and we didn't hear one. Great location and the cottage has been finished to a very high standard with everything you need. It was super warm and toasty inside. Would definitely recommend and hope to return one day.

We have stayed here seven times now.

That probably says enough. The Cottage is very well equipped, clean and comfortable. Also love the shed with chairs and internal hooks for wet gear. The views from the back of the house are super and we really appreciate the enclosed garden. Hopefully we will be back again at some point. Our work in the forest is now complete so it would be a relaxation trip!

We have stayed a few times at Glebe Cottage and love it.

It is always very clean and well presented and equipped. It is very peaceful yet only a short car journey to Dumfries and Moffat

The location is very rural, but that’s what we were looking for, with easy access to the cycling and walking trails at AE Forest. Overall we had a very relaxing and enjoyable holiday.

We were so impressed we didn't want to leave. It's my ancestral home, as my 'root' name, ie. the name of my ancestors is 'MacRae', and my name, and my Dad's who was born in Scotland is 'Rae'. So I've been Anglicised, unfortunately, if you ask me, as I'd love to live in Dumfries and Galloway, I felt the whole place was like a giant funfair ride! The bed and suite in the living room were comfortable, and the place was quiet and private, so we sat out a lot, well my sister and hubby did, at least. I've never been a sun bather. Probably as in my last house I didn't have anywhere private. So this cottage is a big improvement on my old miner's house! So if you're after a nice stay in a very welcoming part of the country, jump in, there's plenty to do in nearby Lochmaben and Dumfries. I enjoyed a sandwich in Lochmaben one day, and we walked to the loch, then within a few days I was zooming around on a quad bike, at Kirkwood Farm. A real experience of a working farm - great fun. Recommend.

Enjoyed the property very quiet and peaceful

This is a lovely cottage, immaculately clean, in a stunning location.

The owners provided lots of useful items, milk, dishwasher tablets, washing pods, plenty of loo rolls & also some lovely biscuits. All very much appreciated. Although we had neither with us, there is plenty of room outside, for children and dogs to run around in a safe, enclosed space. We'll definitely be returning.

The cottage is bright and comfortable with all you could ever ask for in it, nothing is done on the cheap and it is maintained to a very high standard. Would definitely stay here again if in the area.

Great location for Ar Forrest. Very clean, cosy. Stayed over the festive period and it felt very festive. Spoke to owners as we wished to arrange another night, couldn’t be any more friendly and helpful. Very peaceful. Loved it. Will return.

Glebe is the perfect retreat to get away from noise and busy places.

Decorated and furnished to a great standard with everything you need for time away. Beds comfy helping a perfect night sleep. The outside space is perfect to let our dog out to wander in safety without us worrying he will get out. There is nothing i would change or request extra because everything has been thought of. We loved the peaceful rural location of Glebe Cottage & exploring Dumfries & Galloway.

The property was of a high standard & extremely well maintained, clean & comfortable. We used the Sat nav & had no problems in finding it. The dark skies with no light pollution were amazing (would take a telescope if available) The little extras were much appreciated thank you for a special birthday stay.

This is a fabulous little cottage that we come back to each year.

Inside everything is provided for a comfortable stay. The outside has everything we needed too. Plenty of parking on the gated drive, a accessible shed with two chairs so you can sit under the overhang and get the last of the afternoon sun, a raised area at the back with table and chairs and views over farmland. Grassy area for dogs and outside sink and hose. It's about a 1.5km to the village of Ae with it's great little cafe and miles of tracks to walk. The owners are lovely, very helpful and friendly. If I could give Glebe Cottage 20 stars I would.

Everything you could ask for to make our stay a pleasant experience. I loved also that Louisa was going to come mid way through our two weeks and changed bedding which we appreciated. Great views too

Another great stay at Glebe Cottage.

This is a brilliant base for accessing the Forest where we were working. Have been four times already and have booked again for September. Very quiet, love the lockable shed for it's storage and chairs to soak up the afternoon sun. The beds are super comfy and there is everything you need for a comfortable stay. The hosts are most helpful should you have any issues responding swiftly to queries and super efficient in dealing with them. This time I left things behind and received a message within a short time of leaving to let me know. Many thanks Louisa you are a star.

The bungalow is set in a solitary location with superb views of the surrounding countryside.

We had everthing we needed there and it was lovely and warm and comfortable. Smart TV was a welcome bonus on dark winter evenings. Would certainly recommend it.

The fourth year visiting Glebe Cottage and will be booking two further visits in 2024.

I think that says it all! The cottage meets all our requirements both inside and out. Use of the shed, and it's canopy, is a real asset along with the outside tap and outside seating. We were so lucky with the weather this year and spent more time enjoying the late afternoon sun whilst taking in the tranquillity and views. Thank you once again.

Since our last visit, some mesh/wire has been added to the front gate to help stop dogs getting in/out. This was mentioned on a few reviews and it's really great owners have read comments and actioned where they can. Hope you be back soon.

Great wee cottage with fantastic views all around.

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay with our two grandsons. Lots of places to visit nearby (20-30 mins drive) to keep them entertained. Peaceful surroundings to relax after a day out. Cottage was very clean and had everything you need .

Fabulous cottage with everything you can think of.

Extremely clean and a lovely welcome pack. I think some way of keeping other people's pets out of the garden would be a good idea. I have a dog of my own and am used to picking up dog poo but not everyone is. I'm sure the owner must have addressed this problem before. Attachment to bottom of gate and wiring on the fence between slats may help? However despite this we would definitely like to stay again in the future.

Great stay at Glebe Cottage.

Equipped with everything you need and in a very peaceful location. Took a long lead for the dog and glad I did. Lots of wildlife about and the gap under the gate is big enough for even a larger dog to get under. Looks like there would be livestock in neighbouring fields at other times to (as said in ad). Pleasant stay, hope to be back soon.

no local pubs and would have been nice to have some tourist board leaflets with suggestions for days out.

It has been extensively refurbished recently and is wrll equipped. It also has the most comfortable beds we have ever come across in holiday properties and we have stayed in lots !! We would love to return in future ❤️

We had a wonderful stay in Glebe Cottage.

The cottage is beautifully designed with everything there you need. From the moment you walk through the door you know you’re in for a pleasant stay. The cosy underfloor heating was very impressive, it made for a warm return after a brilliant day out. The washing machine was good along with the tumble drier meaning I had very little washing when I got home. The kitchen was well stocked with all the crockery, cutlery, utensils and equipment you need for a week away. The shower was spacious and powerful, and the bed very comfortable with plump pillows. Why complain about them, I’m not sure, do what I did and jettison one for sleeping! The weather wasn’t suitable to use any of the seating areas outside but I’m sure they’re all excellent, they looked good. The scenery around the cottage is beautiful, walking the dog along the lane was great, all I could hear were the birds singing and the water in the burn, plus no traffic …….heaven! So we left with our batteries fully charged and feeling rested and relax. Thank you.

The cottage is comfortable, the beds are lovely although the pillow are quite solid so we took our own this time. Comfortable sitting area and well equipped kitchen. Sitting out area with lovely open views which we did use this time. If we could make a request, please could hooks be added somewhere - in the hall between the bathroom and sitting room perhaps? Another suggestion could be in the overhang of the shed - a really useful place, or even from the rafters in the shed. We were working in the forest and struggled to hang wet gear anywhere. I am sure that others may find this useful too. The owners are friendly and helpful and on the occasion I had to make contact, the issue was dealt with quickly and efficiently. Thank you to all involved in this lovely little spot.

Good size property, furnished to a very high standard.

Has everything you need for a short stay and more. Very clean property is obviously well cared for. In its own grounds in a very quiet location. Having read other reviews I took my own pillows! This is the only negative, although good quality pillows they were too thick and hard for us. I would recommend this cottage to anyone looking to get away from it all!

Cottage immaculate and beds very comfortable only drawback was pillows were too thick for sleeping but everything else was perfect. My husband, the dogs and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay there, lots of forest walks within easy drive. Would definitely recommend it

Perfect location, peace and quiet day and night. great outdoor seating. AE forest a mile down the lane, come back to a outside belfast sink to wash muddy boots and dog, then settle in to a very clean warm and cozy cottage.

This house was warm, clean and extremely well designed as a holiday house eg 2 super king beds (can be 4 singles), powerful shower, large freezer, antiqo flooring, plus essentials eg washing up liquid, toilet paper, bin bags etc.

We liked the modern decor. Good communication with owner before we arrived Short walk to Ae Forest (currently closed due to storm damage, unfortunately). We enjoyed a trip to Caerlaverock WWT Perfect for 3 of us. One large armchair and a sofa for 3, so I think this would be fine for a family with children, but perhaps not quite so comfortable for 4 large adults?

Very nice cottage, ideal for couples.

Only pointer but (NOT a complaint) there's not enough seating for watching tv if there was 4 adults. Rest was was ideal. We would book again.

Love the cottage.

One small point would be the sofa and chair could be renewed as we found it flat and sagging in parts. Other than that it was excellent it's our second visit and we hope to return soon. We very much enjoy our time there exploring the forest and surrounding areas.

Four of us stayed in Glebe Cottage in September.

My husband and a work colleague stayed in 2020 and wives joined them this year, 2021. Everything was lovely. The owners were happy for us to take an extra dog which was really helpful on this occasion - I did check beforehand - thank you for that. We had everything we needed. The shower was very efficient as was the heated towel rail in the bathroom and underfloor heating in the rooms we used it in. The only thing we missed were hooks for coats. As we were working in the Forest and it was a particularly wet week, we had to drape waterproofs over the chairs. The only hooks we found were inside the cupboard by the front door. This is no means a complaint, we would recommend Glebe Cottage to anyone and intend to book again next year.

The cottage is exactly what you see on the photos with all equipment you need to enjoy your stay. We were warm, comfortable and surrounded by nothing but beautiful scenery. It is so dark on an evening you can see the stars in total silence. Ae Forest is a short drive away with many walks and cycle trails. We visited and did walks at Dumfries, Dalbeattie, Moffat, Rockcliffe, Castle Douglas and Annan. We will definitely return to this cottage as it has everything we needed and in a perfect location.

This little cottage is perfect.

Indoors the cottage is clean, comfortable and well equipped. The garden area was excellent for both us and our dogs. Despite being near the Ae mountain bike trails traffic passing the cottage was negligible. Would definitely consider booking again.

It was very clean and had everything we could possibly need. The chairs and table in the back garden were great as we could enjoy the lovely scenery in the evening sunshine.

The cottage is in the perfect location for a quiet holiday with only cows for neighbours so felt nice and private.

Absolutly fantastic cottage.

Normally book in the UK 4 to 5 weeks a year as we've got a dog so don't book abroad as we like to take it with us. I wanted somewhere quite rural but as we've got 5 and 6 year old children needed to have plenty to do within driving distance. We dropped really lucky with this one. Was absolutly perfect for what we needed. It probably helped that the weather was great all week so we could make the most of the fantastic outside space. The cottage ended up being just somewhere to sleep as we were outside all the time. Loads of space for the kids to run round and enjoy themselves. Great walks in Ae forest which is on the doorstep plus it was great that there were so many places to start your walk and different ways to go in the forest that you felt you were in a new forest each day. Loads and loads of stuff to do nearby for both children and pets. Have just come home and tried to book the cottage again for the summer holidays - we never go to the same place twice as I like to explore new places but I feel that there was a lot of stuff that we were planning to do that we didn't get round to. Unfortunately it seems to be booked out for months and I'm not surprised. We will return but will probably have to wait until later autumn or winter but will be nice to stay here in a different season to see what it is like.

Glebe Cottage was probably the best holiday cottage we have ever stayed in (and we've stayed in a lot!

). It was exceptionally clean and well equipped, and had the comfiest bed ever. It was so warm and cosy and really peaceful; great to be able to walk to Ae Forest straight from the door. The owners clearly care about their guests' experience and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this cottage.

Pictures don't show outside seating area at back of cottage which I think it should as for us it was excellent.

Dogs loved it but need to be careful as main gate is easily escaped if not careful.

We had such a relaxed break, despite the uncertain times surrounding it, but all relevant covid measures had been taken and we felt very reassured. Ae forest is absolutely stunning and Lochmaben has the most delightful bakery! As a family, we couldn’t ask for more - the cottage itself was spacious and very contemporary with everything we needed and the most serene backdrop (our children loved cow-spotting!) We hope to return in the very near future!

We loved the remote location, the cows in the fields next to the cottage and the cleanliness of the cottage.

We had a great week at the lovely Glebe Cottage despite the weather being a 'bit iffy'.

However, nobody holidays in Scotland for the weather ! Very quiet and secluded and only just over a mile from the very attractive Ae Forest which is a wonderful place for a walk with or without dogs. relatively flat and easy going well laid out hardcore paths so mucky weather is not a problem.

I've booked many Skyes cottages since selling my house and I really don't want to share this beautiful cottage with anyone .

But, that's very selfish of me ! Glebe Cottage rates number 1! If you're frazzled by life or not , head here.The owners have provided an exceptionally cosy but modern beautiful retreat. Spoilt with underfloor heating , every convience for a lazy but self sufficient trip, what a joy it was to return home after a day of house hunting. To be very honest I'd have been very content to have never have left the grounds of this sweet haven. Sheep skipping in the fields around you and that's how I felt living here for a week too! A super location, surrounded by fields and right on the doorstep of Ae forest . Wonderful owners and very friendly communication. If you need to recharge, please head here , I promise you will never want to leave . I managed to find my new home whilst living here too. I have already tried to rebook and cannot wait to return.
