Briar Cottage is a characterful cottage resting in Bradwell-on-Sea, Southminster, offering original beams, exposed brickwork, and appealing outdoor space. Set within a converted cow shed, this single-storey bolthole brings together period charm and modern touches, creating a pleasant base for guests and their four-legged companions. Step inside to discover the open-plan living space, where the kitchen, dining area, and sitting area flow together beneath the rustic timbers. Prepare simple meals with ease before gathering at the dining table, then unwind on the sofa, which can be made up as a double bed for additional guests.
The double bedroom is neatly presented, enjoying its own en-suite shower room with walk-in shower, adding a helpful sense of privacy at the end of each day. Outside, the cottage opens onto attractive gardens with a patio, lawned areas, outdoor furniture, and a barbecue, giving you space to linger over leisurely meals in the fresh air while the dogs potter nearby. With parking on hand and space for two well-behaved dogs, this retreat works well for a relaxed rural break.
From the door, you are well placed to explore this beautiful corner of Essex. Head towards the coast to discover the beaches within easy reach, ideal for bracing walks and sea air. What guests are saying
On first impressions a lovely rural snug perfect for a get-away.
However, cleaning between guests needs to be of a much higher standard. The property was littered with dog hair, dusty surfaces and odour. The host could do with upgrading pillows, there was a snapped knife and the sofa was very uncomfortable. The toilet was brown from poor cleaning. We would also suggest the host provide information on what to do with bins/recycling.
Quiet location on outskirts of a nice village with parking off road and behind secure gates.
Village pub dog and people friendly. Accommodation near an interesting ancient chapel within walking distance. Pet friendly but garden not totally enclosed. Accommodation compact but pleasantly presented. On site host friendly and helpful without being intrusive. Overall suited our quiet getaway intensions, car needed for most outings. Enjoyed
This property had clearly not been cleaned in months due to the amount of cobwebs there.
Due to the heatwave we've all had we went armed with a fan which, blew dust off the beams, and upon further inspection ( stood on a chair ) found plenty more excessive dust on every horizontal surface out of reach. Hygiene fell short to a basic level due to this fact not least the mould in the shower, also the shower mat that started life as sky blue but now grey with mould both sides, thick dust inside bathroom door, rusty shower basket on the wall in shower, dirty cutlery in kitchen, crumbs / dust under microwave. Shower hose split, that needed replacing , sofabed needing cleaning, cushions smelled fousty, and the fridge belched out heat from under the worktop I t's safe to say we were disappointed !
