The Granary

A very pleasant and relaxing stay in a well planned and equipped property.

The owners kindly provided a lovely welcome pack and also kitchen and cooking basics such as tea and coffee, foil etc and dish washing and laundry supplies, which is useful to know when you are packing for self catering. All in a beautiful village setting with historic and interesting places to visit nearby.

What a fantastic stay everything is provided nothing you could want, the hosts Hazel and Martin are great,so helpful, the only negative is nothing to do with the accommodation but the local pub The victory is only 300 meters away but only does evening food Friday and Saturday its great if you only want a drink, we can't wait to go back chickens ducks and horses all around and the hosts two lovely dogs seren and lola idyllic

Comfortable and well located with friendly and helpful hosts

A lovely place to stay in a quiet village.

Rural but not too far to get to shops and supermarkets and little bonus of the farm shop and cafe next door. Lots of tourist places are within a short distance. The Granary is a really well done conversion, and you literally find everything you might need. Incredibly generous welcome pack, and owners quick resolve one very minor issue. I really recommend it, we loved it. The ducks provided lots of entertainment!

We stayed 12 days and found the cottage super comfortable.

The beds were really good, the floor heating is wonderful and the setting of the cottage is so beautiful. Opening the bedroom curtains in the morning was a real treat with such a wonderful and pretty landscape. Seeing the white ducks and the horses gives you such a nice feeling of seeing nature like that every day. Hazel and Martin were wonderful hosts. They help you in any way they can. We would love to come back if we can. It was a really nice place to stay.

This is an exceptional barn conversion.

The quality of the furniture and fixtures, the equipment and the setting were all so good. The hosts had left tea ,coffee ,sugar ,milk, chocolate biscuits, fruit juice and treats for the pup. Washing up liquid and washing pods were even included. The hosts were available, friendly but not intrusive. We loved our stay here and I’m sure we will be returning.

It was warm, clean and very well equipped. A nice location, plenty of walks for our dog around the village.

We had a great holiday with our friends and enjoyed visiting the surrounding villages and countryside.

Our whippet Elsa loved meeting the owner’s friendly black lab and exploring the field with its ducks, chickens and horses. The cottage has lovely views over this area too. It’s very peaceful and relaxing with everything that you might need including beautiful flowers, dog treats and a foodie welcome pack. There are footpaths leading from the village green for dog walking. We had a most enjoyable early lunch at the nearby farm shop after doing some shopping there on the day we left. Thank you!

The Granary is a lovely place to stay.

We always feel very welcome and the addition of the welcoming biscuits, flowers tea, coffee, juice and milk is very appreciated. We've been going for a few years now and even the dogs remember us. There's plenty to see and do locally or s short drive away. I recommend Spencers Farm shop for a Sunday Roast. Its a great place if you just need to recover from work and just want to chill.

The Granary is a lovely clean and comfortable holiday let.

There is plenty of off road parking at this property and It is well situated in the pleasant Suffolk/Essex countryside. If you like to bring frozen food with you, be aware that there is no fridge/freezer as advertised, but just a fridge with an ice box.

This property was well presented and very comfortable.

A very useful welcome pack was left and there was a vase of fresh flowers on the table which was a lovely touch. The setting is charming with duck and horses nearby which you can see from the property, and also when sitting outside. Very well situated for visiting places of interest and set amidst stunning countryside.

The welcome goodies & flowers were a lovely touch. We had some nice days out around the area & enjoyed watching the ducks & horses on site. Lovely peaceful setting with some great amenities nearby. Would definitely return.

Very comfortable and well equipped cottage in a rural setting.

Thae fixtures and fittings are of good quality with comfortable beds.Patio is enclosed if you have dogs so quite safe.Views are of a duck pind with pastures beyond.Well situated to tour .Well situated to to North Essex and Suffolk to the coast. Highly recommend.

The accommodation and surroundings were phenomenal tge local pub where we ate with days was a bit expensive but the food was worth the price if you don't mind paying for it only one thing let this place down which isn't so much of a bad point just a point to make the owners dog wasn't very friendly and when it's out with them in the morning and evening it was off lead and I couldn't take my dog out for a walk around the garden because my dog has to be on a lead as she is not great with all dogs

We had a lovely stay at The Granary, the accommodation had everything we needed to feel comfortable and relaxed.

The owners were friendly and on hand to help - we throughly enjoyed our time here as did our 2 children and the dogs!

Our stay here was delightful and the hosts were absolutely welcoming.

The site itself was the most beautiful and idylic location for escaping it all, and we couldn't have asked for a more appropriate site for our month-long stay! Thanks to both Martin and Hazel for all your help and letting us stay at your most gorgeous house!

This is our second visit and it was just as lovely as our first stay in October 2022.

Everything was as described in the details. Absolutely nothing to complain about. The village is lovely with the local pub just a couple of minutes to walk to and the village shop is brilliant. The Indian restaurant a 5 min drive away worth a visit. Perfect for walking the dogs and the owners are lovely.

The Granary is a beautiful quiet place to stay.

It has a great outlook facing fields and duck pond. The owners horses grazing out in the fields. There is lots to see and do locally or a short drive a away or if adventurous Norfolk is a bit further away but do able. If you just want to rest the Granary is a great place for that. The owners are on site if needed but not intrusive. The cottage has all you need. There's a farm shop next door with a small cafe and the pub is a short walk away. Thoroughly recommend the Granary at Brickwall Farm.

We had a lovely stay, the family very friendly and helpful, house had everyone you need with lots of extras, lovely views over pond and fields with the horses, our dogs enjoyed playing with their dogs, lots of lovely dog walks and places to visit all listed in book provided, local pub friendly and good food, farm shop next door very good, would highly recommend lovely peaceful week away.

Fantastic place, had a fabulous three weeks at the property, we were very lucky because the weather was glorious which made sitting outside for a morning coffee amazing.

Lots of added extras which we were not expecting, washing up liquid, dishwasher tablets etc., very comfortable beds and all needs met. The place is quiet and perfect for a relaxing break but with lots to do not so far away, very helpful info in the book and from Martin and Hazel, cannot recommend this place enough.

Had a great week staying at the Granary.

The property was perfect for relaxation in the quiet countryside setting with plenty walks near by and short drive from other places to explore. Our hosts were very friendly and the welcome gifts were a nice touch especially the dog treats. It was much better than we had expected and will definitely be back again in the future.

Beautiful property, well maintained and very clean.

Owners are on site, so if you need anything they are around to ask. Property is set in a quiet area, so lovely and peaceful - beautiful gardens and very friendly dogs (owners!) We have stayed here several times now - it is like a home from home!

This is a comfortable ,clean and inviting property.

It's in a quiet peaceful area with the added bonus of being near to a beautiful farm shop for your fresh produce. On arrival we found a basket of goodies and everything to make a welcome cuppa. There was even chews for our Labrador Bess. We had a relaxing week here and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.

Amazing property.

Perfect for relaxing and watching the ducks and horses, or reading a book. The property itself was of a high standard with very comfortable beds, underfloor heating (which made the place lovely and cosy in the cold weather) and everything you could need for your stay. It is well placed for exploring the area and the hosts were lovely (friendly and helpful, but not intrusive). Will definitely be back again.

A lovely property.

I stayed at The Granary for a week. The under floor heating is glorious! Having bathroom both up and downstairs is great. Although because of my dog (Micky), I stayed downstairs mostly and slept in a single bed for the first time in years. However, it was really comfortable. Being on my own, I felt really safe and secure at The Granary. There are great dog walks from the property, but take your wellies in the winter. The TV remote could do with replacing and regular kettle descaling as it is a hard water area. Everything you need is at the property, even a dishwasher. Luxury. Owners are friendly but not overbearing. I called for help a couple of times for minor things and Martin was right there. Their two dogs appreciate any treats you would like to offer and are really cute. There are horses, geese and chickens in the grounds which are lovely. The local pub had a new chef who hadn't really bedded in yet and our meal was so-so. Very friendly though. Really enjoyed my stay and won't hesitate to recommend it.

We had a very lovely stay Hazel and Martin made us very welcome, with treats for us and our dog, everything was clean and comfortable, lovely, quiet grounds, enjoyed the animals, and the village green is ideal for walks, one could not ask for more.

We had a lovely relaxing 2 week holiday at the granary.

Its lovely and clean and comfortable. The hosts/owners Hazel and Martin are very welcoming. This is our 3rd visit to their farm, but the first time staying in the granary. We will be booking again for next year. Our parrots are also always welcome when we visit. Alice

It had everything we needed for a comfortable stay . Enclosed patio , handy for our 2 pooches . Peaceful , but not far from some lovely places of interest . Owners on site .lovely touch to be contacted the day before our arrival . Arrived to find milk .coffee, tea ,sugar and cookies

The property was well equipped and the welcome pack was very generous.

The setting was delightful and the owners were very welcoming. The only things we missed, which is rather trivial, was hooks for dressing gowns in the bathroom and hooks for tea towels in the kitchen. Overall The Granary exceeded our expectations.

A very peaceful and relaxing place to stay. Very sunny aspect. Well equipped, lovely modern bathrooms and comfortable bed. Good parking. We appreciated the welcome gifts and flowers too. It was a delight to see and hear the ducks and horses. Such a lovely view over the gardens to wake up to every morning. The dogs were very welcoming too, and Ronnie the cat! The farm shop and cafe near the property were both excellent as was the village pub only a stroll away.

What can I say?

My wife and I took our granddaughter and our dog for a 3 night stay. The accommodation was as good as a home from home could be; clean, well equipped, comfortable and we were left tea, coffee, sugar and milk and also some treats for our dog and biscuits and juice for us. We had a very relaxing break in spite of the weather which was cold, wet and windy most of the time. The grounds are lovely and well kept. This is a beautiful place to stay and we highly recommend staying here. Thank you very much.

The location suited us as we had a prepared list of places to visit and the outlook over the surrounding countryside enhanced the experience. Our hosts were on hand in case of query or emergency, but neither arose.

The Granary was perfect.

Beautiful, peaceful, setting. Very comfortable. Immaculate. Great nights' sleep. Warm (we stayed in February). Hazel and Martin are the perfect hosts - on hand if needed, but weren't obtrusive in any way. Probably the best place we've stayed.

What a lovely cottage.

High quality furniture a very comfortable bed, a fully equipped kitchen and 2 bath/shower rooms. The owners were lovely, very friendly and relaxed and didn't intrude on our stay at all. An enclosed area outside the front door kept our dog safe when we weren't exploring the local country walks. A beautiful setting indeed.

A delightful cottage very comfortable and cosy within an idyllic setting, we loved it.

Lovely to wake up to the sound of the ducks on the nearby pond and the horses being put out in the fields. Central to some great places to visit. The table had recently (?) been varnished but was still sticky. Given a ordinary smilie for cleanliness as the oven was in need of a good clean. We washed it but not on holiday to spend time on it. The two downstairs single beds creaky not conducive to a good night’s sleep. The main entrance gate is the Nearest mobile signal ……. Let’s hope new technology will alter this.

A very neat and tidy external appearance makes a good first impression, internally the property is also well maintained, clean and welcoming.

Great having two bathrooms with space to put things. Excellent location. Out in the country but easy access to Sudbury and Halstead. Many very good places to eat and well stocked farm shop 100yds away which also has a cafe . Very friendly owners. We would have no hesitation staying there again

We had a good stay at the Granary.

Quiet location, with easy access to local area. Local pub and farm shop just short walk away. It was very sunny most mornings, so a parasol would have been appreciated for the patio table. We wanted to eat our breakfast outside but couldn't. We wouldn't have booked it at full price.

Extremely well furnished with everything we might need. Only suggestion might be instructions on using the hob (for those of us who are not familiar and have only used old fashioned gas hobs). Beautiful and peaceful location.

This was a lovely cottage and suitable for 4 adults.

We had a lovely time here and the village itself was very nice with plenty to do in the local area. The cottage was actually better than it looked on the website.

Lovely property set in an idyllic location a short drive from both Halstead and Sudbury for the larger shops.

Super farm shop and café just around the corner and large village green with children's play area just a short stroll down the road. The property itself was well furnished, warm and boasted the most comfortable mattress (Eve models) that we have ever slept on away from home. The owners were very welcoming and always available if required. One small gripe was that the level of cleanliness could have been better when we arrived. A number of corner areas had accumulated dirt/hair and the dishwasher certainly needs a thorough clean/anti-bac wash out as it smells! Despite the presence of horses, chickens, ducks and geese it was mostly peaceful and our grandson loved the animals. The welcome pack of coffee/tea etc along with milk, juice, cookies and dog chews was a nice touch and very welcome. We would certainly recommend The Granary to anyone visiting the area looking for an lovely, rural retreat to base themselves in.

We had a wonderfully warm and comfortable stay, with a great welcoming pack.

The owners were very helpful and understanding. The only complaint we had was that the brochure stated at the beginning there was a washing machine but when we arrived and read the small print further on it wasn't listed. Perhaps the advert could be altered so others aren't mislead.

This property is of an excellent standard set in a lovely rural Location.

There is a great pub just five minutes walk away and a marvelous farm shop with lots of yummy things to buy. The owners live next door and are incredibly helpful and friendly without being intrusive . The property is perfectly located to explore Suffolk, Norfolk and Essex, would definitely recommend a stay here.

It was so peaceful sat outside on the patio with a lovely outlook over the duck pond and the surrounding countryside Martin & Hazel were the perfect hosts so friendly and welcoming and i would highly recommend a stay for anyone wanting the peace and quiet of the countryside but with so much to see and do on your doorstep also the locals were extremely friendly. All in all a perfect stay.

I had a great week at The Granary with my cat.

The cottage is well designed, maintained and kitted out, and great hosts - everything you could need for a comfortable stay. Great views of horses, chickens and ducks from every window, and while the enclosed garden faces the wrong way for afternoon/evening sun, that's compensated for by waking up to some amazing sunrises through the bedroom window. Lots of info leaflets on places to visit in the cottage; my favourite days included Madash alpacas at Coggeshall, and Boydells Dairy farm.

Cleanliness - all was great except for the oven and extractor fan grids, which needed cleaning , which we did.

Hosts were a very hospitable and gracious.

The accommodation is modern and comfortable. The description is accurate. The kitchen is well equipped for cooking. Hosts were always available to assist should anything arise. The cottage and well kept farmyard/garden was a particularly enjoyable space to spend our obligatory ‘self quarantine’. We especially enjoyed watching the ducks from our sofa view as well as the horses enjoying some much needed time outdoors when it wasn’t raining. There were welcome flowers, biscuits, milk along with coffee, tea and a few condiments available when we arrived. We also had some fresh eggs from the chickens available to us as we hadn’t managed to sort our breakfast needs before arriving and we so appreciated this! The bed was comfortable and it was quiet at night, which was very restful. We enjoyed our stay. We would highly recommend this property.

We had an amazing stay at The Granary the facilities were perfect for us with our 6 month old puppy.

It was very spacious inside and the owners were extremely friendly and welcoming. The accommodation had fresh flowers, tea and coffee, fresh milk and other treats for us when we arrived which we thought was a lovely touch and gave the 5 star treatment when self catering. The farm has lots of livestock and horses which was beautiful to see throughout our day. There are lots of walks nearby and the village is quaint and people very friendly. Would absolutely recommend and stay again! Thanks xx

We had a lovely holiday in this very smart and comfortable barn conversion.

The owners were very friendly and helpful and generously provided some ‘goodies’ - milk, cake, hand wash, flowers, apple juice which was much appreciated. The surrounding garden was idyllic, very peaceful and restorative and we enjoyed seeing the ducks ,chickens, horses and of course the delightful family dogs. We took our two labs who also had a fantastic holiday. There is an enclosed patio area so they could happily watch what was going on from outside. Beautiful area and beautiful cottage. Thank you.

Lovely cottage, spotlessly clean and in a good location.

The owners made you feel very welcome with suggestions of places to go and local places to eat. A lovely village with village green (Sunday cricket in the summer), pub, farm shop and pond. Set in the countryside but very close to main roads with ease of access for exploring the area. There is certainly lots to see and do towns, villages, National trust properties, castles, gardens, the zoo in Colchester and even the coast. Martin and Hazel had thought of everything and were great hosts. The accommodation is happily situated between a lovely pub, The Victory and Spencer's farm shop. We had some nice country walks without the need to use the car. We would definitely recommend The Granary.

My stay in The Granary was extremely comfortable and relaxing.

Everything was present to make it easy to stay. I had taken basics such as liquid soap, loo rolls, washing up liquid, towels etc but all was present and I know that in a future visit I would not have to clutter the car and transport so many things with me. The facilities were spotless and the hosts welcoming. A really useful folder was provided with all local and essential information required. The Granary was set in very peaceful surroundings with ducks, chickens and horses. Very peaceful setting to sit and read of a morning. The village was beautiful and the green ideal for a stroll with the dog. The farm shop next door great for most delicious raspberries and strawberries and other treats! Local pub opposite village green ok for dogs in garden and the odd meal. I will definitely visit again!

This holiday home was perfect for our week long family holiday (2 adults + 2 children 13&15).

Everything you could ever need was provided by very friendly hosts. My sons enjoyed having their own bedroom with en-suite shower. The kitchen/dinner is a great space to prepare and eat meals. The upstairs master bedroom with en-suite bathroom gives the adults a perfect hideaway for peace and quiet! We had a really enjoyable week, thank you.

Superb rural cottage with plenty to do in the surrounding area.

The hosts were very welcoming and there on hand of you needed anything. The cottage itself was very comfortable and had everything you could need for a week away including some extra lovely touches of local apple juice and flapjacks. Everything in the cottage was easy to use, there was ample parking for us and just overall a fabulous cottage.

It was beautifully renovated and was so comfortable. It had a lovely outlook onto the garden and fields beyond which was peaceful and relaxing.

We couldn't have wished for a more perfect stay, the cottage, the location, the facilities, the hosts - all absolutely perfect.

So much thought and consideration has gone into every aspect of the cottage and its facilities, even down to the homemade apple juice and flap jack from the local shop that were on the kitchen table on our arrival. The cottage is situated in the most beautiful setting with 3 beautiful dogs, four horses, ducks and chickens on the surrounding land. The hosts could not have been more friendly or hospitable, a really lovely couple. If I could choose a dream home, that would be it. I cannot recommend it highly enough.

We found the property excellent with a great outlook to the back and well situated in a lovely village with a great farm shop and cafe a hundred yards away and a pub a few yards further.

The owners were on hand every day and very helpful and friendly. A great base to explore the beautiful countryside and picturesque towns of Essex and Suffolk.

The interior of this property was of a very high standard.

The layout was ideal as the ground floor bedroom ensuite was ideal for in our case an elderly person but would also be great for children. The owner who live on site were also very helpful. I would highly recommend this property.

We spent a very nice week in the spacious, well equipped holiday cottage in a quiet village.

We made interesting trips every day knowing we would return to our “home” to enjoy a quiet evening in the Granary. Being in the company of our dog, we appreciated the enclosed garden and the dog friendly house. Our hosts were very friendly. We spoke regularly but didn’t overdo our contacts. We also appreciated the local animals especially the dogs. We can surely recommand the house and surroundings to anyone especially dog owners.

Suffolk has so many secret treasures on offer. We enjoyed meals next door at the Farm Shop as well as in Sudbury and Lavenham. These are such quaint welcoming villages. My favourite part of staying at The Granary was the walks so many on your doorstep. I walked for several hours each morning field after field of dog friendly walks. I just loved it. We will definitely be back!!!

We spent a week visiting National Trust properties in the area and the cottage is well located.

The cottage was absolutely perfect and the owners were very friendly and helpful.

What a fantastic break.

The Granary is tranquil and of a high quality which made our stay wonderful. Our party had a dog and he played very well with the owners dogs. Our hamper made us smile especially the dog treats and daffodils. Plenty of hot water and pluffy towels. I'd recommend it to anyone.

Very comfortable residence and there was everything in there that we required after a long day out.

The setting in the farm was very good and the owners of the house were very friendly. We would stay there again.

Brilliant location in a beautiful barn conversion.

Well equipped and super clean. Outdoor space was amazing for a 3,5 and 9 year old and we were made to feel really welcome. The children loved meeting the animals! Lovely welcome basket too. Hope to return.
