  • "We had a really comfortable stay at this fabulous property and only wish we could have stayed longer."

The attention to detail was superb with some exquisite finishing touches and many examples of the owner's artwork dotted around. We particularly liked the easy reference cards and accompanying annotated map which gave us lots of ideas for things to do. I would not hesitate to recommend a stay here.

The cottage was perfect, our hosts were fabulous-welcoming and helpful. In the cotrage, there is everything you could want and more! The thought and care that has gone in to Hona is incredible. In fact, only beaten by the views by day and night. If you want to get away from it all, this is the place you need.

There is great precision in the way things are laid out and placed . The space flows very well the furnishings and artworks both internal and external elevate the property to an extremely high level of comfort and sophistication. An important consideration for myself is solitude peace and quiet and that is most certainly delivered. Mangersta as a location is truly awesome and the owners have gone to a great length of investigation to provide information for the visitor with all those possibilities for your enjoyment. The numbered map artwork is a stroke of genius with information cards for your browsing . I enjoyed my stay immensely and without hesitation recommend this wonderful property .

This former mission hall has been very thoughtfully transformed into a comfortable cottage. It has everything you could need and is beautifully furnished whilst retaining aspects of it's former life. The location is perfect. Peacefully remote but with gorgeous beaches close by and a fully stocked shop only a few miles away. We will be returning next year.

  • "Hona is a very special holiday cottage, not only because of where it's positioned, but because of the very keen attention to detail Louise and Matthew have given to I think almost everything within it!"

The utilities are top notch - and the kitchen's facilities, kitchenware and essential provisions - above and beyond. The cottage is packed with useful books and information about the local area - and stylishly designed and furnished to give it a lovely homely feel. I perhaps missed the comments advising me to bring a laptop to 'cast' programmes/films to the TV monitor, but I managed that - and it didn't prove an issue. Very well weatherproofed and therefore warm and cosy, Hona is wonderfully located with some world class beaches, mountains and walks on its doorstep, and yet suitably distant (40 minutes) from Stornoway to make one feel that little bit off the grid! Wonderful! Everything one could want - oh, and I should add the bed is super comfortable too! Louise monitored my arrival on the ferry and contacted me a couple of times to check all was well, which of course - with her attention to detail - it was! I can't recommend Hona highly enough!

Thanks very much Simon. Well, we were so pleased you got here through a snowy A9 AND got home safely too! It's great that you enjoyed the landscape of Uig even in the midst of winter and we hope you'll visit Hona again... there's so much more to see! Property Owner

  • "We were full of anticipation up to our arrival at Hona and we weren’t disappointed when we got there."

Everything was as described, nothing felt used or shabby which can sometimes be the case, big grins all round. The welcome pack was above and beyond comprising fresh milk, butter, oatcakes, shortbread, cheese and a half bottle of Hona whisky. Wonderful. Oh there was also tea bags, coffee, sugar, dried herbs etc. This little residence is a bit like the Tardis. It has everything you need and perhaps more. You realise that here has been a lot of thought put into Hona. It is situated in the Mangersta area and is only a mile or two from the many glorious beaches that the Uig area boasts. We had tentative plans to explore Lewis and Harris but ended up scouring the Uig area. You see there are laminated map cards linked to a large topographic wall map from which you can plan your daily jaunts and forays which because are all fairly local means you’re not sitting in the car all day. Hona is warm, cosy and extremely functional, I even liked the cutlery, but hey that’s just me. It really has everything you need. Lou and Matt the owners are a friendly and seemingly laid back couple (arty) who are happy to advise. I could go on but I’d be here all day. I’m pretty certain we’ll be back next year, can’t wait!

Aw thanks Glen, we really appreciate your positive feedback. We'll be adding to the map cards over winter so there'll be more to explore should you return next year... and maybe you'll see the Northern Lights again! Property Owner

  • "Absolutely 5 stars."

What an amazing cottage with absolutely everything you would ever need. On top of that the owners are fantastic, on hand to help with anything. Advising on the best places to visit. All the special little touches in the cottage made it feel like a home. You can definitely tell that Louise & Matthew are artists in the way they have designed, styled and curated the cottage perfectly. Location was a fantastic base allowing you easy travel around the isle. Uig beaches were the best for us. We also had the pleasure of seeing a White tailed Eagle, Golden Eagle, Deer and so much more. A special little welcome pack just takes it to a different level altogether. We had the most fantastic time and recommend the cottage to everyone. Can’t wait to go back one day.

Many thanks Fiona, that’s very kind. Inspired by your wonderful collection I went searching for a sea potato yesterday and found one! But managed to break it helping my elderly dog get into the car. Will keep looking though! Property Owner

Beautifully situated within walking and cycling distances of stunning beaches, cliff tops and mountains. The house is quite unique for a holiday let with its incredible resources regarding what to do in the area, a small library inviting you to discover more on the history, flora and fauna , with a related DVD and CD collection. The owners have designed the house and contents around their love of the natural world, which encourages you to fully embrace your visit and enjoy even more, these rare moments in nature.

We were extremely comfortable during our stay. The local area has some beautiful beaches. Hona has a wall map and supporting documentation which suggests interesting locations to visit. We founds these suggestions to be excellent, so much so that we abandoned our pre-planned itinerary in favour of the walks and drives suggested on the wall map. The welcome pack awaiting us on arrival was lovely. The owners recently upgraded the internet connection to a Starlink system, which provided high speed service for WhatsApp, movie streaming, and general web browsing. We greatly enjoyed our stay here and feel that we only scratched the surface of things to see and do in the area. We plan to return to Hona again next year.

The owners are artists and this is reflected in their home, so beautifully curated and yet homely and comfortable - they have thought of everything. It was such a pleasure and made for a wonderful week. We were lucky with the weather but equally would be a fabulous stay in cooler weeks including winter. They also left us some small gifts of Hebridean delights, I honestly haven’t stayed in a better holiday home than this. On top of it all, Lewis provided pure escapism from everyday life in the city and the area has the most fantastic beaches and walking on your doorstep. Pure heaven. We hope to return again in the not too distant future.

The hosts were easily available in case of any issues and had thought of pretty much everything - from dog blankets to midge repellant - we were so impressed. It was beautifully put together with lots of personal artistic touches and made for a lovely home-away-from-home stay. We had plans to cover both of the islands but ended up just seeing more of the local sites once we had a look at the big map and handy info sheets provided, wanting to do that justice and have time to relax. Would definitely recommend staying here.

  • "Maybe it’s hard to trust a feedback, when all rankings are 5 stars."

But for Hona this is the only way to describe it. We discovered the house on the Sykes website and were attracted and at the same time concerned about it being so exposed out in the west. The owners offered a warm welcome, were helpful and concerned, which made us feel at home from the very first minute. They asked us at the end, what they could improve and we really could not name anything. The owners are very fine artists and they turned this home into a most enjoyable and intriguing work of art. Stating, what is stands for: home in the nature. Everything you need was there and even more, the views stunning and the veranda and the garden offered a place where you enjoy to sit and admire all the little details arranged with love and attentiveness. Much more to be said, you have to discover yourself. Of course it is in the western Hebrides and you would expect rain and sun and wind and fast changes. So nothing better than some coastal walk in the sun and hours later a cup of hot tea in the warm home, when it’s storming outside. It’s a nature resort, and that’s what we were looking for. A place to reconnect, to slow down and to gain new perspectives on what is important. We will definitely come back, it was the highlight of our journey.
