My family and I spent the last week in October at Mallards.
The cottage is so beautiful, cosy yet spacious. Very tasteful decor and furniture make it welcoming and extremely comfortable. Heating worked perfectly when required and we had the fire on one night. There was 5 of us and we managed quite well with one shower. Overall a great stay. Shame we could not make use of the lovely back garden due to the season. Hopefully we can come back during the summer. Thank you! *NOT FOR PUBLISHING* For the Landlord only; -We had to wash dishes, cutlery, pans and mugs before using …. Some pans still had the label on and items we needed did not appear to have been washed. Also, there was bits left in various drawers presumably from previous occupants; -A ladle would be a useful addition -FYI Due to its size, the white crockery provided does not actually fit the dishwasher Hope this helps
Mallards is a beautiful little cottage in a fabulous location, just a few minutes’ walk from the centre of Bourton-on-the-Water, the ‘Venice of the Cotswolds’!
The kitchen is wonderfully spacious, with a dining table that comfortably seats six beside the patio doors. It’s a lovely space, made even more charming by the fairy lights on the glasses cabinet alongside. The beds were comfortable, and there was plenty of wardrobe space for everyone. The bathroom was also a pleasant surprise, with a lovely long shower tray rather than a cramped little one. The lounge was cosy with lots of lamps to add the required level of light and a log burner to up to cosiness level. The Mousetrap pub is literally just across the road, although it can get very busy! We also enjoyed a lovely walk from the cottage to Upper and Lower Slaughter, stopping off at Hawkstone Brewery for a quick drink on the way back. There was a slight error in the listing at the time regarding additional parking but that has now been updated and all was good. Many thanks to Zsolt at Manor Cottage for sorting the situation out! It was one of the best equipped cottages we've ever stayed in - and there have been a lot! - the only thing missing I think, are some drinks coasters, some kind of shelf in the shower, and a Guest Book. I really enjoy reading ideas and tips from previous visitors. All in all, Mallards is a charming, comfortable cottage in a fantastic location, making it a great base for exploring the beautiful Cotswolds. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay! TIP - be aware that the shower doesn't operate until you press the round circular button on the very side/end of the right hand knob as you face the shower. It does explain it in the info booklet but can be easily missed.
