Description
Lady of Lourdes is a truly unique holiday home nestled in the peaceful village of Whitchurch, Herefordshire, offering guests the rare chance to stay in a beautifully converted former Catholic chapel.
Originally built as a place of worship and transformed into a spacious home in 2005, this remarkable property blends historic charm with modern convenience, making it ideal for families, friends, or groups seeking a memorable stay near the Wye Valley.
Step through the chapel doors into a striking entrance hall, where the high vaulted ceiling and arched windows immediately hint at the building’s character and history.
The large lounge provides a welcoming space to gather, with inviting sofas and a TV perfect for evenings in.
The open-plan kitchen/diner is thoughtfully equipped with two ovens, a hob, dishwasher, fridge/freezer, kettle, and toaster, alongside a generous dining table and a pool table for entertainment.
A utility room houses a washing machine and tumble dryer, while an office space and cloakroom add to the convenience of the ground floor.
Upstairs, there are four beautifully presented bedrooms.
The master bedroom and first-floor double both feature en-suite shower rooms, while a second double bedroom is served by a stylish family bathroom with a bath, shower over, basin, and WC and also one single bedroom.
On the second floor, you’ll find a spacious open area furnished with a sofa and some gym weights, perfect for guests who like to keep active during their stay.
From here, a twin bedroom leads through to an additional double bedroom, forming an ideal layout for families or friends sharing the space.
Outside, the property enjoys a lawned garden surrounding the building with a patio area, where there is two picnic benches available on the patio, creating a lovely spot for morning coffee or alfresco dining.
There’s also ample off-road parking, secure storage for bikes (pre notification would be required) and the property welcomes well-behaved pets, ensuring everyone can enjoy a getaway together.
The local area offers plenty to explore.
In Whitchurch, stroll through charming village lanes and stop by traditional pubs serving excellent food and local ales.
Head to Symonds Yat for breathtaking views from Yat Rock, enjoy a scenic river cruise, or spot peregrine falcons along the cliffs.
History lovers will enjoy Goodrich Castle, one of the country’s best-preserved medieval fortresses, and King Arthur’s Cave, steeped in legend.
Families can visit the Wye Valley Butterfly Zoo or venture into the Forest of Dean, where miles of trails await walkers and cyclists alike.
Blending centuries-old character with all the conveniences of modern living, Lady of Lourdes offers an unforgettable retreat.

What guests are saying
Perfect house for family get together.
So much space. Some walls in the entrance and kitchen could do with painting rather than being touched up with a slightly different colour. There were no small plates which is unusual. We were celebrating a birthday and had to serve pieces of cake on a dinner plate or a cereal bowl. The kitchen was clean, but the oven could do with the clean! Same with one of the fridges. My children loved the top floor, which worked well as their parents had their adjacent room so they were all together. I did bonus to have the table football game out there! However, the mattress in the main ensuite bedroom really could do with being replaced. It is very soft and saggy on both sides I had to move out into the little box room as I found that mattress more supportive. Such a shame because it’s a lovely room. Also, the bedroom could do with a mirror on the wall. There is only one small one above the bathroom basin. And why one bedside light? There should be one on each bedside table. The negative points are meant as constructive criticism. It’s a lovely spacious house, but these changes would make it more comfortable to use. But this did not spoil our fun. Great location and brilliant local facilities, restaurants, pubs, village shop and sightseeing.
This is an amazing property, so much space, well equipped with plenty of parking for larger groups.
There was everything we needed for a relaxed week with family members and our five dogs who loved the outdoor space. The property is located close to the Forest of Dean with a range of walking trails within a short drive, we loved our time here and would love to return again.
The main rooms on the ground floor are really good, comfortable spaces for people to share.
The bedrooms are a bit of a mix as to comfort and space. The stairs to those on the top floor are steep and there is no bathroom on that level. We enjoyed our stay. The location is great: the village is lovely with shop, cafe & pub and lots of activities within walking distance
