Saltwater Cottage

The Cottage was warm and cosy with lovely views.

We just weren’t happy as there were quite a few maintenance issues for which we did notify the Agents but only one of them was rectified during our stay. We Were unable to cook well due to the oven door not closing either but made use of the microwave and cooker hobs. The Outside bins were full and only one shower in the En-suite working that we all had to use. The beds also smelt of damp like the bedding hadn’t been dried sufficiently. We booked Saltwater Cottage because it looked so full of charm and character – and it didn’t disappoint!

The place was exactly as we expected, with super comfy beds and amazing sea views. I’ve seen a few negative reviews, but honestly, I think those people just didn’t read the description properly before booking. We absolutely loved our stay and can’t wait to come back!

Unfortunately, the listing did not match the reality.

The only positive was the stunning sea view. The staircase is dangerously steep and has only one hand rail. It has no carpet or other floor covering and it is easy to misjudge remaining steps when descending. The loos in both bathrooms were almost unusable because they were obstructed by towel rails and, in the downstairs loo, by the toilet roll holder. Injuries were sustained in their use. Nearby roadside parking was not always available and could prove a challenge when offloading and loading luggage. No mention is made in the listing of the steep path from the pavement to the cottage door. Contrary to the listing, there is no fridge/freezer, simply a second fridge in the porch with an ice compartment. There was no visible means of drying clothes after using the washing machine which, in addition, was located in a truly squalid outhouse. The painted, uncovered floorboards were a skid hazard and some had nails or something similar protruding through them. There is no reliable mobile phone reception in the cottage. The cottage information book was incomplete with no section for registering deficiencies. We certainly had a memorable stay, but for all the wrong reasons. Would we return or recommend the cottage? Absolutely not.

We found the cottage reasonable,but over priced.

The stairs going up to the bedrooms were very steep,not ideal for older people and young children.The second bedroom had no storage.There were boxes under the beds,but they were so dusty we couldn’t use them.The kitchen floor and in the front room were also dirty and didn’t look as if they had been cleaned.There was half a toilet roll in each toilet.I would expect new ones and there were no others.Also the path leading to the cottage was dangerousl.I would definitely not choose to rent this cottage again,especially as the parking on the road was a lottery,with nowhere to park if you couldn’t get a space.

A delightful cottage in a quiet location with all that you could need for a relaxing stay.

The conservatory and garden were much appreciated areas to enjoy the sunshine and sea views. No issues with roadside parking. Bus stop short walk from property. The stairs to the first floor are quite steep so extra care was needed here. Otherwise a wonderful stay and would not hesitate to book again. Thank you.

A lovely cottage, but too cramped.

The stairs were very steep to the bedrooms. The bathrooms were extremely small and the toilets squashed. The downstairs bathroom, the toilet roll holder is situated in an awkward position as my husband scratched his leg and I also scratched myself on it using the toilet. I would have liked to sit in the garden, but the hedge had encroached on the stairs leading down to the garden bench, and there was no railing, so it felt unsafe. I feel it is not a house for very small children or older people who may have mobility issues. I suggest a usb plug or port be made available as it is not mentioned in the information. The furnishings were lovely and it was nicely decorated.The views were also lovely. It was easy to find the cottage and the key was easily accessible.

Really great property with lovely views and very well equipped.

We had a lovely stay at Saltwater Cottage.

It’s comfortable and well equipped and was spotlessly clean. It was so cosy with the log fire. We suggest getting logs in as we struggled at first to find where to buy them. It was a winter break but the garden has lovely views and would be a delight in the warmer weather. The kitchen is incredibly well equipped for a holiday let and a lovely touch was the hot water bottles!! We recommend a stay here. Linda and Graham

The property was stunning.

The interior was furnished beautifully. Everything you could possibly want was available even hot water bottles. The only thing was that it wasn't suitable for four elderly ladies. The stairs were very steep and the outside path was also steep and a bit dangerous for us. It is more suited for a family.

We had a wonderful time, and enjoyed our stay.

Would not recommend this for four adults ( small second bedroom with no cupboards) would suit two children. Downstairs bathroom floods when taking a shower and unfortunately for us neither of the bathroom lights worked so we used a torch at night, this was reported to Sykes but nothing happened. The garden is in need of a lot of attention, we did pull out a lot of weeds which improved it a bit.

Could you please put note on 'how to get there' section? Followed satnav which took us to Shanklin, then discovered road to Ventnor was closed due to major landslip last December, which we weren't aware of. Once we reached Ventnor we used satnav again, ignoring a couple of 'Road Closed' signs and reached cottage OK. At least we weren't troubled by passing traffic!

The garden needs a good bit of tlc.

We had a lovely stay and loved the view out to the sea.

Very comfortable property.

Nice location, great value for money. A shavers plug socket would be useful. The property is listed as having a washing machine. We found the washing machine in the outside storage building. All plumbed in, but no power socket so we were unable to use. I texted the mobile number twice during our stay but received no reply.

The cottage was very nice.

Good location, very clean and comfortable. Local information provided was really useful. Lovely welcome pack, very much appreciated. The only disappointment was the washing machine provided wasn't plumbed in, therefore unusable.

A lovely comfortable very clean cottage my sister and I felt so relaxed a much need restful and quiet break .

We had such a lovely stay here.

We found the cottage to be really clean, and the kitchen very well-equipped for anything that we needed. The best thing we found was the location. It was so peaceful, such a lovely area with the most gorgeous sea view. I think it's also worth noting that the beds were really comfortable. We would definitely recommend, and are potentially looking to book again next year (although, I was reluctant to write a review as it's such good value for money I didn't want to share my find...!)
