  • "We loved the location, far from the madding crowd!"

Although the property was on a very busy working farm, during a very hot, busy time of year, we felt welcome at all times. We were allowed to walk around the farm, which we did during the evenings. This was a privilege. We felt comfortable and safe in the property. It was a lovely week and we would certainly return.

  • "A very well-equipped property in a beautiful location with easy access to the Carthouse, and to all areas of I."

O.W. It was ready on time, very clean and well equipped in all areas. Julie the owner was very helpful and approachable if we needed to know anything.

  • "A very comfortable cottage with all mod cons in a rural part of the island."

Brilliant shops in the next village and close to most places to visit and the beach. Thank you for the welcome tray on arrival. We had a lovely holiday and hope to return again.

  • "We had a really good break stay."

Location was lovely and quiet although nothing is too far away. Accomodation was great and clean and Julie couldn't have done any more to make us more welcome. Would definitely stay again

Comfortable. Toys for the children. Warm. Great location. Very welcoming. Enclosed garden. Great to be on a working farm.

  • "Cottage is lovely, very well appointed, equipped and clean."

Nothing was too much trouble for the hosts, we had a slight challenge with the heating - first time it had been used this year - they came instantly to try and resolve, when they couldn’t they brought additional heaters and organised a plumber for the next working day. Cannot recommend highly enough.

Large piece of grass at back and pleasant picnic area. Spacious interior. Lovely cake and milk on arrival.

  • "The house and garden were great for children, we had many evenings playing with our granddaughter in the garden, Frisbee flying over the barn roof, on more than one occasion, the farmers were very accommodating, it was fun."

We hope the local pub survives, problems with staffing which was a shame their food is always excellent, we hope that by our next visit they will have survived and be up and running.

  • "We enjoyed a wonderful week in this fabulous cottage!"

It was brilliantly equipped with everything provided for a perfect stay. The location was exceptional - on a busy, working farm and hosted by a lovely and hard-working farming family! The short walk to the beautiful village was a delight - and the people we met along the way were so friendly! And as for the Isle of Wight - this, our first visit, will definitely not be the last - we enjoyed absolutely everything about our stay there!!

  • "We had a fantastic week & enjoyed being close to various sights across the island."

The cottage was perfect, they provided all we needed and so much more. There were flowers, milk and a cake when we arrived, as well as handwash, dishwasher tablets, washing up liquid and some toiletries. The enclosed garden was huge & thoroughly enjoyed by us and our 5 year old twins. We’ve already booked for next year, can’t recommend it enough.

  • "Lovely friendly welcome from Julie the owner, also a tray set for us to enjoy a nice cup of tea and a beautiful home made cake, we sat in the garden and enjoyed the sunshine and the tea and cake."

The cottage has everything you need, you have heard of the saying "Everything but the kitchen sink", well this had the kitchen sink as well. The only thing you need to take is laundry detergent and fabric softener, this I guess is due to skin allergies. I would point out that the washing machine is just that, it is not a washer dryer, but that is not a problem, as there is a washing line with pegs, laundry basket and airers over the radiators for all your drying needs. We really enjoyed our stay here, so much so we are hoping to go back later in the year.

  • "Larger property than expected."

It is excellent, very well equipped, friendly owners and plenty of space. 5-10 minutes in the car to Brighstone Car Park and shops and can then walk to the coast. We had a very enjoyable holiday in this cottage.

  • "The Carthouse is on a working farm and the people who run it were very welcoming, and we had great pleasure in 'speaking' to the animals."

The Carthouse was immaculate with everything you would need, a home from home. A very large garden at the rear for children to play, and a patio with two bench tables. Rarely have we said we would return, but we will to The Carthouse.

The property

This thoughtfully-converted old cart house is superbly located on a mixed working farm, within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, on the edge of the delightful village of Shorwell on the Isle of Wight.

Caringly appointed throughout to provide spacious, comfortable accommodation, this Shorwell cottage is perfect for couples, friends or families looking to get away from it all and enjoy the sheer beauty this part of the island has to offer.

Set entirely on the ground floor, this Shorwell cottage offers a light and spacious sitting room with dining area and French doors leading out to the garden, along with a fitted kitchen, bathroom and two bedrooms, one of which has a king-size bed.

You will enjoy stunning countryside views from the sitting room, kitchen and twin bedroom in your Isle of Wight cottage.

Outside, you will find an extremely large, private lawned garden with patio area, perfect for enjoying an energetic game or two, or simply relaxing with a morning coffee as you watch the daily life of the farm.

The beautiful, historic village of Shorwell was developed around St. Peter's Church and its three manor houses, of which West Court is the oldest, dating back to c.1500.

Queen Victoria is said to have favoured Shorwell over any other village on the Isle of Wight.

Apart from outstanding walks and exhilarating mountain biking, just a few minutes' walk from your Isle of Wight cottage you will find The Crown Inn, as featured in the AA's Britain's Best Pubs 2011 and 2012, and well worth a visit.

Just outside the village, why not explore the west coast beaches of Brighstone and Compton Bay, where at low tide you might be lucky enough to spot the odd dinosaur footprint?

Alternatively, head up the road towards Newport and you will discover Carisbrooke Castle, a must for all the family.

The perfect Shorwell cottage from which to explore this wonderful island, any time of the year.
