The Carthouse

We have just returned from a wonderful stay at The Carthouse.

The accommodation was clean, comfortable and very well equipped. In fact there was nothing that we could think we would need that wasn't provided. The owners, Julie and David and their family were particularly friendly and accommodating. The Carthouse is on a working farm and we were allowed to wander around the farmyard to see the animals. We were even invited to watch the sheep shearing. David and his nephew Sam were very informative and generous with their time and it was a real privilege to be part of the farm for albeit just a week. If we return to the IOW again we would have no hesitation in booking The Carthouse.. Jon, Les and Sue

Superb Cottage on a Peaceful Working Farm - A True Home from Home!

We had a wonderful stay at The Carthouse. From the moment we arrived, the hosts were incredibly friendly and welcoming— The cottage itself was spotlessly clean, warm, and extremely comfortable. The best-equipped self-catering accommodation we have ever stayed in. Everything you could possibly need for a week's stay, and more, was provided. The location on a working farm just outside Shorwell is beautiful and peaceful, offering stunning countryside views and a lovely atmosphere. The large, enclosed garden was a real bonus. Also i have to mention the wonderful shop in Brighstone, a fantastic local shop with everthing you need. It’s also perfectly situated for exploring the best parts of the Isle of Wight. We cannot recommend The Carthouse highly enough and are already planning our return visit!"

The Carthouse is a converted 500 year farm building with very thick walls making it warm inside.

It is well furnished and comfortable. The owners are pleasant and listen to any shortcomings that we mentioned which were put right very quickly. The property is situated within lovely countryside and easy reach of the main shopping area at Newport.

The Carthouse is a lovely property and the best equipped property we've ever stayed in.

I don't think that the photographs do it justice and we were surprised that the twin bedroom looked out onto the drive because I hadn't got that impression from what I'd read but perhaps I'd not read it properly. This in no way detracted from the property and it was interesting to see the farm vehicles going up and down as we've worked in farming communities. Depending on my husband's health we hope that we'll be able to stay again in the future. Julie Russell is so helpful and a lovely host.

Our family stay was awesome.

Ideal place for families with little kids as u get ur own space and fully equipped cottage. Many games/books for kids to keep engaged. Fully equipped kitchen for enjoying ur cookings in the evening. Would surely recommend this

Very comfortable very clean and very well appointed property.

We much appreciated the many "extras" of things like shower soap etc. Owner very friendly and welcoming. Quiet position but near bus stops to the main town and beyond if you don't want to drive. All in all a very good week's holiday. We will definitely go back! And as a previous guest mentioned the stars at night are spectacular viewed from the garden!

This little cottage was THE best for equipment that we've stayed in .

...The bed was comfy and the lounge was like being at home....Maybe a little help to get rid of flies although I understand cos it's a farm and we've been on farms before so expected it.....We had a really good week and thank you for help with ferry ticket.......

The accommodation was comfortable and clean, having all the facilities we needed, plus many more which we didn't take advantage of. Julie was an excellent host, providing useful information, without being intrusive. If we were to return to the Isle of Wight, we would definitely try to book The Carthouse again.

Absolutely fabulous - the best cottage so far.

Every item of comfort and convenience is thought of. Beautifully decorated - I say that because it is so similar to our own home! Quiet but not isolated. Friendly, helpful and caring hosts. Can't recommend it enough. Thank you so much.

Overall we received what we paid for, the cottage was comfortable with a very good outlook.

It is part of a working farm complex which is what we wanted. Inside the cottage, it was not as clean as it could be, the kitchen was sticky and we wiped it over before we used it. The pillow on the beds were foam and not as good as they could be. The shower cubicle needs a make over, it's looking tired - but it works very well.

We had a very enjoyable week in the I.O.W. The property was a perfect base. Its situation, on a working farm , added to the feel of inclusion in the community. Host available, but not intrusive, was good. Property clean, comfortable and well-equipped.

We loved the location, far from the madding crowd!

Although the property was on a very busy working farm, during a very hot, busy time of year, we felt welcome at all times. We were allowed to walk around the farm, which we did during the evenings. This was a privilege. We felt comfortable and safe in the property. It was a lovely week and we would certainly return.

Brilliant shops in the next village and close to most places to visit and the beach. Thank you for the welcome tray on arrival. We had a lovely holiday and hope to return again.

Location was lovely and quiet although nothing is too far away. Accomodation was great and clean and Julie couldn't have done any more to make us more welcome. Would definitely stay again

Large piece of grass at back and pleasant picnic area. Spacious interior. Lovely cake and milk on arrival.

Cottage is lovely, very well appointed, equipped and clean.

Nothing was too much trouble for the hosts, we had a slight challenge with the heating - first time it had been used this year - they came instantly to try and resolve, when they couldn’t they brought additional heaters and organised a plumber for the next working day. Cannot recommend highly enough.

The house and garden were great for children, we had many evenings playing with our granddaughter in the garden, Frisbee flying over the barn roof, on more than one occasion, the farmers were very accommodating, it was fun.

We hope the local pub survives, problems with staffing which was a shame their food is always excellent, we hope that by our next visit they will have survived and be up and running.

We felt the cottage was so well equipped the owners had thought of everything, even a cake on arrival!

It was brilliantly equipped with everything provided for a perfect stay. The location was exceptional - on a busy, working farm and hosted by a lovely and hard-working farming family! The short walk to the beautiful village was a delight - and the people we met along the way were so friendly! And as for the Isle of Wight - this, our first visit, will definitely not be the last - we enjoyed absolutely everything about our stay there!!

We had a fantastic week & enjoyed being close to various sights across the island.

The cottage was perfect, they provided all we needed and so much more. There were flowers, milk and a cake when we arrived, as well as handwash, dishwasher tablets, washing up liquid and some toiletries. The enclosed garden was huge & thoroughly enjoyed by us and our 5 year old twins. We’ve already booked for next year, can’t recommend it enough.

The Cart House was in a great location.

Extremely clean and had everything you could ever need including books, games, all the basic essentials and a kitchen with every pot, pan, dish or cooking item you would ever need. The owner was very friendly and made as feel very welcome. I would highly recommend this for a stay on the IOW.

Only that it would be helpful to have a mop & bucket to clean non carpeted floors

It was very well equipped and comfortable andt the hosts very friendly.

Lovely friendly welcome from Julie the owner, also a tray set for us to enjoy a nice cup of tea and a beautiful home made cake, we sat in the garden and enjoyed the sunshine and the tea and cake.

The cottage has everything you need, you have heard of the saying "Everything but the kitchen sink", well this had the kitchen sink as well. The only thing you need to take is laundry detergent and fabric softener, this I guess is due to skin allergies. I would point out that the washing machine is just that, it is not a washer dryer, but that is not a problem, as there is a washing line with pegs, laundry basket and airers over the radiators for all your drying needs. We really enjoyed our stay here, so much so we are hoping to go back later in the year.

Larger property than expected.

It is excellent, very well equipped, friendly owners and plenty of space. 5-10 minutes in the car to Brighstone Car Park and shops and can then walk to the coast. We had a very enjoyable holiday in this cottage.

Our stay at the Cart House was very enjoyable, the cottage had everything we needed & was very comfortable with lovely views over the country side.

The Carthouse is on a working farm and the people who run it were very welcoming, and we had great pleasure in 'speaking' to the animals.

The Carthouse was immaculate with everything you would need, a home from home. A very large garden at the rear for children to play, and a patio with two bench tables. Rarely have we said we would return, but we will to The Carthouse.
