Poppy Cottage

Couldn’t fault our stay at poppy cottage, the climb up the steps is more than worth it for the beautiful views from every window.

Excellent facilities, a really homely feel. Parking never a problem. We enjoyed everything on offer on The Isle of Wight,The Needles, shanklin old village and sea front, Tapnell farm waterpark, Arreton Barns and The Dairyman’s Daughter pub, The Spyglass and many other places. Great walks from the doorstep with our dog too. All in all, we had a fantastic time and wouldn’t hesitate to book Poppy Cottage if we retuned to the island.

We thought Poppy Cottage was lovely, and a good location.

As described, if you have mobility issues then this is not a good property due to the steps, however this was not a problem for us at all. The owners had left plenty of toilet rolls, kitchen rolls, dishwasher tablets, biscuits, tea and coffee etc, which was appreciated. On arrival the property had a horrible smell in the kitchen, which was foisty as if someone had mopped with a dirty mop head. We got some air fresheners and opened the windows to get rid of the smell, whatever it was. The house was cleaned throughout and the beds comfortable though. The only downside to the property was that it could do with a little love and maintenance. The door in the lounge and the bedroom were tricky to close because the hinges had dropped a bit at the top and were coming lose, the bars in the flooring by the doorways could do with fixing as some move and could make you trip up, also the lamps need replacing in the lounge as the shades are broken and flop over. The garden was beautiful, and my son loved looking for Wall lizards, and we saw bats and heard a badger whilst there. The view from the lounge and bedroom are stunning! If you visit here, I highly recommend a visit to steephill cove shack for milkshakes, waffles or coffee and cake. Compton beach is also stunning in the evenings when the sun is going down.

The sea views were incredible and everything was clean and very homely. The garden is also really lovely. We did think maybe it could be made clearer on the listing that there is no shower and instead it is a bath with a shower-head attachment - but in the grand scheme of things this wasn’t a major problem and we loved our stay overall. Thank you!

Stunning views from every window. The accommodation really is home from home with every need covered. Will definitely stay again.

We really enjoyed our stay at Poppy Cottage .

The house was,very homely with everything we needed. There was lots of space and the garden was peaceful and secluded. Both bedrooms were big with plenty of storage and views to die for. We were blessed with sunny weather all week too. Would thoroughly recommend the cottage and many thanks to the owners .

Very clean and welcoming. The only drawback was the bath, which we found to be very awkward to get out of.

Poppy Cottage had everything we and our two dogs needed.

An ideal base for exploring the island, and lovely both inside and out (great outdoor space for humans and dogs!. A very welcoming and comfortable abode for our short time in the Isle of Wight. It has a well equipped kitchen which we appreciated as we did the welcome pack of bread, butter, milk, tea and dog biscuits!! Amazing sea view and it was so peaceful and it was a perfect place to chill after a day walking and exploring. Thank you

Best equipped cottage ever!

Most comfortable beds and decent sofa/chair. Bathroom a problem as shower is under steep sloping ceiling. Glorious views- could be a great garden if more maintenance. Terrible access up to house.

A really sweet and cosy property with a very nice wrap around naturalistic garden with lots of places to relax.

The kitchen was well stocked with everything we needed and more!

The access to this property is dangerous and totally unsuitable for the elderly.

We found the steps far to steep, I am 80, my wife 75 and our dog 14. We would not have made it up to the cottage with our luggage without the help of the house keeper who was still there when we arrived. Sadly the ordeal of the steps spoiled our holiday even though the cottage was delightful. I think it should be made clear how difficult the access is.

Loved Poppy Cottage, you need a good set of walking legs to get to the beach and town but it’s a nice walk.

The house was lovely and the views are just fantastic. Maybe need to change and add a few blinds, broken or missing !! Bathroom was not brilliant for 3 over 6ft people but could cope with for the week. The welcome pack was lovely and a great touch. Would certainly go back.
