  • "We initially struggled to find the site (there was no signage at the entrance)."

By the time we'd checked in at reception and located the chalet it was probably around 4pm and getting dark. Upon unlocking the door, we could tell immediately that it was dark, cold and smelled musty. There was no heating or electricity. The fridge therefore was switched off with pools of water on the shelves. It takes 2-4 hours once a fridge is switched on before it is safe to store food. While accepting we overlooked the fact that we should have brought £1 coins for the meter, it was clear that this lodge was not going to be habitable that evening. In addition, we found the back door to be unlocked and slightly ajar, giving rise to concern as to whether there was anyone else inside (no way we could see in the dark and I certainly wasn't prepared to explore upstairs via my phone torch). Therefore, we had no choice but to return to Dover and stay overnight in a hotel. Next morning we returned and put the electricity on (still none the wiser how many coins we might need) and turned on the lights. We made the following observations: no instructions on how to use the heaters, so I had to phone in a second time no welcome pack (everywhere else we go leaves a little basket of maybe teabags, biscuits etc., pint of milk etc.) the grill was unclean and itself did not work while we got the shower to work, there was no red-light indicator to inform whether the hot water was on or off cobwebs and dust, in particular in the bathroom, with the toilet brush lying on its side upon investigation one of the electric heaters didn't actually work it looks like there's supposed to be a light sensor above the keysafe outside; needless to say, this didn't work Overall, this accommodation fell significantly below our expectations and we will not be returning.

Thank you for your thoughts, it is a rural village but there are directions on the key email that we send out pre arrival and the postcode provided directs guests straight to the property. There is no need to check in at reception as guests can go straight to the property. I appreciate that the weather when you visited was winter and there may have been damp in the air so I will ask the housekeeping team to ensure they air the property between guests on changeover by opening windows or if the property has been vacant before a guest arrival. As the property is self catering we don't include welcome pack but guests can of course buy provisions locally if required or bring with them as needed. I will have the grill and electric heater checked and guests can turn the shower hot water on by turning the dial and it heats within about 10 seconds. There is also an information pack at the chalet with instructions for all appliances and amenities, this is wall mounted in perspex by the dining table outside the kitchen next to the fire extinguisher. I am sorry you were disappointed on this occasion regarding the property which has been an isolated incident as can be seen by our previous good reviews with excellent scores. Property Owner

  • "I have stayed at this holiday park many times over the years and Chalet 58 is a fantastic chalet in a great location."

It has lovely sea views from the rear BBQ area and the beds are very comfortable. I stayed here for a few nights with my two boys and we all had a lovely time. Plenty of children's DVD's and board games in the chalet and everything you need in the kitchen to prepare food, I highly recommend Chalet 58.

  • "Had a lovely few days here."

Everything you need, clean and nicely decorated. Stairs in the cottage are very steep. Not a problem for us but could be for older people or young children. Great location on a great site. Brilliant having the indoor pool as weather wasn't good while we were there. An absolute little gem of a place.
