fantastic stay, every thing you needed and great host, home made chocolate cake was delicious.

We had a very peaceful and relaxing stay in this cottage.

The owner lives in the main house, let us in, showed us around and was available if necessary but did not intrude. The guidance folder was clear, WIFI connection and TV were easy to use. Large kitchen with dining table. Very large 'L' shaped lounge. All very clean. Useful patio with table and chairs. We visited lots of places in the area, including a train ride to Canterbury. (The nearest station is Newington where the car park is free but small). Would love to stay again should the opportunity arise.

Westgate Cottage is a lovely, large and very comfortable cottage.

It is ideally situated to visit the coast, Chatham Dockyard and even London and Canterbury. The owner was very helpful and knowledgable about the area and left us some lovely goodies to start our holiday. We would certainly have no hesitation in returning to this cottage.

Very comfortable.

Although attached to the owners property it was very private. Everything is there and the welcome pack and cake provided was lovely. Secure garden meant that the dog was safe. Close to the M2 so all tourist links were easily accessible. Rochester and Chatham Docks well worth a visit. Thank you for a lovely stay.

Very well equipped with everything you could possible want. The welcome package from Claire the owner was a lovely treat. Perfectly located to reach all parts of Kent. We were very happy with our choice for the week.

The cottage is spacious, clean and with all comfort.

There is enough storage even when traveliing with bigger luggage. Communication with host was so easy and nice all the time. The garden is enclosed and was really safe for our dog. A great location to explore the region but as well to visit London or just to relax on the terrace. Definitely would recommend the cottage!

A comfortable and spacious cottage with easy walks from the door.

Plenty of villages to visit and some excellent farm shops, pubs and cafes close by. Very dog friendly. Could easily return.

Westgate Cottage is so beautiful and very comfortable and clean.

Clare is very nice and left us some extra treats....a strawberry and cream sponge and a bottle of wine. There was also some treats for the dog. Our dog loved the garden to run round in. The only problem we had was with the WiFi which is very intermittent.

Well situated to explore North Kent.

Unfortunately this property was not up to what I'd class as the usual excellent standards of Sykes cottages.

...the property itself was very tired and could do with a serious update.....I don't think my standards are particularly high ..other reviews were very good,,I don't understand this....the bed was very uncomfortable...., I know beds comfort is subjective, but it felt as though the mattress was old , the frame is definitely old....the owner was very helpful while there....we left after the first night of a week long holiday,,,couldn't sleep in the bed.....all in all very disappointed

The welcome pack and little touches were amazing.

The only negative is that the wifi is not stable so you settle down for the night to watch Netflix and it loses connection.

This is a spacious annex to lovely country manor.

Very well equipped with everything you could need inc dishwasher and washing machine. Good size enclosed mature garden with patio area accessed from patio doors in lounge and from bedroom. Of road parking but tight if you have a larger car as accessed off narrow lane. Great location, in countryside but close to several main roads and Sittingbourne is 3 miles for supermarkets (but don't bother with town). Bed and sofa really comfy!

We stay at Westgate Cottage for 2 months each year so it's like our second home for a while.

Always clean and comfortable and Claire is always friendly and helpful. It says a lot that we go back each year. We're not on holiday during our stay and are locals but I know from the guestbook that all the other guests recommend it for how lovely the cottage is and a great location for visiting basically anywhere in Kent. Great links to the major motorways for your convenience. Don't hesitate, book it now and you and your 4-legged friend will have a lovely stay.

Perfect home from home.

Our 3rd stay and we will be back. The welcome is always warm and the little extras make it special. If you are bring your 4 legged friend bring some old towels as the walking along the lane can get quite muddy especially in the winter months.

We've just returned from a lovely week's holiday at Westgate cottage.

We had a wonderful time, visiting London, Chartwell, Shepherds Neame Brewerey in Faversham and several picturesque coastal villages. The cottage itself was very cosy and comfortable and it was a pity that the weather made us stay indoors because it also has a wonderful garden. Hope to return some day. Rob & Mirjam

Just as described. Claire was a perfect, lovely and gentle host. She was really welcoming and took us round on a house tour. She left cake, wine and cookies for us. Also everything needed in a home was readily available like tea, soaps and every other bits. Myself and my husband really wished we could stay on for a longer time. This was a lovely clean, cozy cottage, a home from home.

It had everything we needed for a comfortable stay for ourselves and our little dog, including doggie towels and treats. I particularly enjoyed the large very well equipped kitchen. The bed was comfy, lots of storage space and a reasonably good shower. Unfortunately the weather was a bit unkind to us so we didnt use the nice spacious garden ( although quite a lot of road noise). Clare kindly showed us around when we arrived, and left us a lovely choccie cake, cookies and a very nice bottle of wine...much appreciated!

The garden is lovely for sitting out, weather permitting. The property owner is very helpful and personally shows you round when you first arrive which is great and is willing to answer any questions that you might have.

The owner was extremely friendly and informative.

She made us feel right at home along with our little doggy who had lots of space to run around. There were homemade cake, biscuits, milk and wine left for us. Totally above and beyond. Wednesday was an exceptionally hot day and as a pointer, the addition of a fan in the bedroom would be a bonus as we suffered a very hot and humid night. Other than that we totally loved the place which actually felt like home. We were so comfortable and relaxed the whole of our stay.

The accommodation was clean and had everything you needed for a relaxing holiday.

Annex very spacious. We usually like to book a 2 bedroom cottage for a fortnight but this was ideal. Only slight problem for us would have been the traffic noise, should it have been nice enough to sit outside. It was certainly tolerable from inside. I don't know whether there was increased traffic because of the temporary road closures

Fantastic property close to visit my family.

Loved it, would stay long term if I could! Only drawback is no paths if you are walking to other places but that's not the owner's fault. Could not fault the place. Owner left cake, cookies, milk and filter coffee. Our dog loved the garden.

The following comments are not criticisms but for information for prospective visitors.

The pub that was said to be within one mile is in fact a restaurant only open certain hours/days of the week and is not dog friendly. There is also no pavement into the village and it is quite a fast road. We would also like to suggest that a couple of oven proof dishes would be useful.

A very friendly welcome from the owner who kindly showed me around the cottage prior to moving in. There was also a very nice welcome bottle of wine, cake and cookies which were an add bonus. I enjoyed the peacefulness and privacy of the accommodation and found many local walks within easy distance of the cottage.

Second booking of our 2-month stay at Westgate Cottage.

Also our second year there and we'll be back next year which I'd say is recommendation in itself. A lovely annexed cottage next door to the owner Claire who is especially welcoming and keen to ensure you have everything for your stay. Comfortable, clean and cosy and our little dog Max enjoys the garden and local walks. Definitely recommended for long or short stays.

We enjoyed our stay in Kent.

This was a comfy cottage and we enjoyed some lovely weather. The dog enjoyed the enclosed garden. When we booked we had a clear plan of where we wanted to visit and managed them all - White Cliffs, Dover, Deal and Bodian Castles, Chartwell, Canterbury Cathedral and Battle Abbey. We enjoyed Sunday Lunch at the Maypole Inn nearby and, on the night we had a power cut, were able to get an Indian takeaway from Sittingbourne -a good one too! We appreciated the welcome pack left by the owner too! There is some road noise possibly as a result of major road works in the vicinity. Everything you need is here though and we would return if we were going back to that area.

It is a lovely homely cottage with a secure garden which delighted our Jack Russell Tinchy. The owner Claire was very welcoming and provided us with a much appreciated welcome pack. The home made cake was delicious. If we decide to visit the area again then we will definitely check if Westgate Cottage is available.

My husband and I have just left Westgate Cottage from a 2-month stay.

We were able to basically treat it as home for this extended stay. Claire is a wonderful host, being available if needed but gives you privacy also. Claire was helpful in regard to parking and in turn we helped out with annual gas and electric checks being accommodated. Our elderly dogs settled very well and loved the garden. As other reviews have mentioned, the bed is an old style sprung frame and rather uncomfortable especially for an extended stay and could do with a new firmer mattress. However we discussed this with Claire and she is considering arrangements for our stay next year. The kitchen is well appointed; there were even things I thought "oh these are fab" and have bought some for myself back home. I really want the 'dancing ducks' from the kitchen windowsill, so cute! Wi-Fi is supported by a booster in the cottage and I was able to work from home with no issues. Whilst we weren't on holiday and were both working (we live locally), we enjoyed our stay at Westgate and have already booked for 2 months next year and look forward to catching up with Claire in January.

We enjoyed our stay, ideal for us to visit family.

Thank you to our host Claire who made us very welcome. Our only comments are the fridge /freezer is not working as efficiently as it should be, a lot of water daily in the fridge base and drawers, and there is only one large cooking tray for the oven.

We were pleasantly surprised at how big this accommodation was and a great location to explore that part of Kent .

Relaxed approach to our dog coming too. Nice touches of a cake , biscuits, wine, butter, milk local eggs and tea bags left for us. A little noice from the road but mostly while outside in the large garden! The pub within walking distance doesn’t allow dogs even in the bar area even though they were empty sadly.

This was our first time away with our new rescue dog and she loved the cottage.

It was spacious, comfortable and cosy and we looked forward to getting back to relax after walking all day. The homemade cake and biscuits were lovely (we left the wine for the next guests). The WiFi was a little patchy (my partner tried to work, but didn't have enough signal), but it wasn't a big deal. The only thing that might have made it better for me would be a smart TV for Netflix etc. We loved the reading corner though and not having smart TV made us sit and read a book in the evening. Claire came to say hello and check if we needed anything. It's a lovely cottage and if we come back to Kent, we would stay there again.

We had a lovely stay at the end of September 22022, for a one bedroom cottage it was very large and well equipped with everything you could possibly need.

The lovely lady supplied us with a bottle of wine, amazing chocolate cake, chocolates milk, butter, eggs, biscuits never before have we been so spoiled. If you're looking to stay in Kent we would Highly Recommend this property.

The owner Claire baked us a cake and left a welcome pack. So clean and comfortable we will definitely book again. Easy to visit locations we lived at 40 year ago in Kent. Very quiet despite motorway nearby. Excellent cottage.

We had a wonderful holiday at Westgate Cottage.

It was spotlessly clean, quiet, comfortable & extremely well equipped. We found it very spacious for 2 people. ( We have sometimes booked 4 persons accommodation because we have on occasion found one bedroomed cottages a little cramped for us & our dog.) Claire was friendly & helpful but not intrusive. She spent a long time on the phone giving us detailed travel directions because of roadblocks around the extensive roadworks. Thankfully the restrictions were removed shortly after we arrived & the roadworks did not cause us any problems. This is the only cottage we have stayed in for 2 weeks where there was a mid stay clean & bedding change, which we very much appreciated. We enjoyed the welcome pack too, especially the chocolate ginger cookies! We found the location gave us plenty of scope to visit places we were interested in (mostly gardens & quiet beaches for the dog). We would heartily recommend this cottage to anyone wanting a peaceful break in a beautiful area.

A lovely cottage, beautifully cared for.

Perfect for us with our elderly dog (springer spaniel) Rosie. Very comfortable, nice and private and the enclosed outside space was great for Rosie too. Claire was a brilliant host and took care of us perfectly. The location was ideal for us to visit family and friends and we loved it so much we have booked to return for next year. We were also provided with some lovely goodies on arrival. Would highly recommend. Nice walks very close too.

The host greeted us and made us feel very welcome.

There was numerous goodies in the cottage for us to eat and she had even gone to the trouble of baking us a cake. Overall a good experience and there wasn’t to much to fault from our perspective. The only issues we had was that the garden wasn’t secure for our cockapoo and the road outside was exceptionally busy so was very noisy. The bed was an old fashioned spring mattress and was only a double which was a lot smaller than our super king size at home. As I say a good experience overall and there will always be something that people prefer differently.

The cottage was very spacious, with plenty of storage room, and equipment for cooking.

It was useful to have an extra loo. Claire the owner had left delicious and generous welcome 'goodies'; and was very kind and welcoming. The road was quite busy during the day, but quiet at night. There is a sunny garden and patio. The two days we remained in the cottage due to the extreme heat, it was even too hot to sit in the shade. The cottage was cooler. We walked to the village Craft centre (which doesn't now have crafts) but a shop and tea room, for lunch. The service was friendly with lovely food. We tried to book a table at 'The Maypole' in Borden. Unfortunately we were 'rudely' informed one night was for bingo, and the other had a funeral party. Two other evenings were the hottest of the year; we felt unfair to kitchen staff, so ate in the cottage, .There is a Greek taverna in Oad Street, but as we do not enjoy Greek food we didn't visit it. There is a lovely country park nearby at Hucking, with walks onto the North Downs. Marvellous views across to the South downs, where we spotted our first Clouded Yellow butterfly. A challenging walk to White Hill park,(in the heat) with many steps. We didn't really enjoy Faversham, although it does have many lovely buildings, but the walk along beside the river wasn't very attractive. Canterbury was worth a visit with great architecture and a pretty riverside walk. There is also a huge shopping centre. We would have liked to visit Leeds castle, but ran out of days. The only reason we wouldn't return is because we always like to visit different areas of the country.

The cottage is very spacious for two people.

All rooms large and decorated lovely. There is plenty of storage space (far more than we needed) and the kitchen has a good, useful, selection of kitchen ware. In addition to a kind welcome pack, the bathroom was provided with most toiletries we wanted. Clean, tidy and everything worked as it was supposed to. Our only reservation was that the patio area is surrounded by high vegetation and the property, so doesn't get much sun. Claire, the owner, lives next door and was welcoming and helpful. She was unobtrusive but we still had a couple of nice chats. The Oad Street bistro is within a short walking distance (across fields if you prefer) and does a great selection of breakfasts, brunches and lunches, including vegan, veggie and gluten free. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. The area is brilliant for exploring, with Dover, Leeds Castle, Canterbury and many other interesting places within less than an hours drive. The nearest town, Sittingbourne, was good for day to day supplies though we didn't find it very welcoming in evenings. Too many raucous pubs with bouncers on the door for our liking. In summary, a great cottage and location. We may return...

What a lovely 3 nights we had here.

Claire is delightful - extremely considerate and thoughtful, but also respects privacy. So many lovely gestures like the chocolate cake, sparkly wine etc etc and even a lovely birthday card and bunch of tulips. The cottage has a lovely atmosphere and we felt very relaxed. Dishwasher and Washing Machine there too and doggie treats and towels. So handy to have the extra toilet too. The ensuite shower room is well spaced out and spotless - its extractor fan can be turned off so hubby doesn't wake you in the night. Oh dear! I'm not really obsessed with toilets!!! Everything was spic and span. We are actually allergic to other dogs (except our non-shedding cockapoo) and we did not wheeze or sneeze at all, so it must have been incredibly well cleaned from any previous doggy visitors. It is very peaceful and spacious, with a pretty, enclosed lawned and well-planted garden (including a huge magnolia tree which was in flower when we were there!) (for the dog to enjoy as well as us) It includes a good patio with table and chairs. You can chose sun or shade. Enjoyed lunch at the nearby Craft Centre (dogs allowed in the courtyard outdoor seating area, with a pleasant walk across fields to get there if you don't want to go on the road). We weren't able to sample the evening Greek Taverna food nearby as there was a wedding party there that night, but I gather it's excellent. Claire was extremely helpful in my queries about good seaside places. In the end we went to Whitstable and enjoyed tea and cakes up at the Castle gardens and then a seaside stroll to the dog-friendly beach. Also visited (also with our dog) the large Mount Ephraim Gardens which is family-owned and much better than we expected. We definitely aim to return to stay again in this lovely cottage. There are plenty more places to explore by car (and lots of nearby country walks), but it was so comfortable in the cottage that we had to force ourselves to leave it! The Owner was very welcoming, nothing was to much trouble. We have been to several cottages over the years, but Westgate Cottage is the very best, the holiday began the moment you entered the property. Will definitely return.

It had everything you could possibly need. We had to cut our visit short for family reasons but we will definitely be back.

We enjoyed our stay in this very clean, comfortable, cosy, and well equipped cottage, and very much appreciated the generous and well thought out welcome pack.

We found the owner to be both friendly and helpful, a pleasure to meet her. The location is ideal for accessing coastal areas, Maidstone, and north Kent. Directions to the cottage were excellent; but be aware that the lane is narrow and a little care is needed when turning into the parking space - easy with a small/medium car, do-able but slightly tricky with a larger one. Overall, we would definitely stay at Westgate Cottage again.

A most comfortable cottage, well maintained and equipped.

The welcome pack was excellent and the contact with the owner and her family was positive and helpful. A slight problem with wi fi access was quickly sorted. A hand rail to assist with access to the shower cubicle would be beneficial.

Lovely cottage with a safe secure garden for our dog, we had everything we needed for a base to explore Kent.

Claire was a wonderful host and left lots of lovely welcome goodies for us to enjoy. We would love to return soon.

Perfect location for visiting Chatham Docks, Oare Nature Reserve, Elmley National Nature Reserve, Whitstable and Canterbury, all within easy reach.

Host very friendly with an excellent welcome pack including lovely touch of fresh garden roses in bedroom. Only slight disadvantage was traffic noise from the lane outside during the morning and evening rush hour, no noise from nearby motorway.

Claire,the owner, who lived next door took the time to come round and greet us and left a starter pack and a whole bunch of goodies, ie.

a home made cake, bicuits, bread ,milk and a variety of other things including a lovely bottle of wine. We were made most welcome and the property was ideal for our spaniel Charlie who settled in immediately. Very comfortable and spacious.

The cottage was perfect for two of us and our Bernese dog - who loved exploring around the large garden, especially in the trees and bushes around the edges! :-) (The broken fence issues had been fixed so it was safe for her to roam freely.) Inside was spacious, a little dated in decor, however had everything we needed for our stay and it was spotlessly clean prior to our arrival. Claire, the lovely owner who lives next door, had left a few goodies for us to enjoy, including a tasty cake, wine, biscuits, bread and fruit. We even woke to a surprise delivery of a bottle of bubbly and card on our anniversary which was such a thoughtful touch! The cottage was easy to find and located just off the motorway which meant we could drive easily to many of the wonderful places Kent has to offer. It is only 1/2 hr from the coast. We visited Whitstable, Herne Bay, Margate, Canterbury and Broadstairs (which was our favourite so we returned!). I would recommend The Royal Albion Hotel there for food/drinks; it overlooks the sea and it is very dog friendly inside and out. (You can’t book on the day though.) There is also a retro ice cream parlour along the front which does a free dog friendly ice cream! There are main supermarkets and takeaways a short drive away in Sittingbourne. The Plough and Harrow pub, which is now a Greek taverna, is only a 5/6 minute walk away and does takeaways and we had this one evening which we thought was delicious! There is also a craft centre opposite which apparently does a tasty breakfast and lunch but we didn’t have time to visit this. Thanks for a memorable holiday.

The house was well equipped with everything you would expect. The house is an annexe to the main house and is situated centrally for exploring Kent, not far from the coast and Leeds Castle, Dover etc We would love to stay again.

Claire is a very nice helpful person and gave us a super welcome pack.

The cottage is clean but dated. There is a high step down from the front door and an extremely high step into the shower which is good and powerful. The garden is nice but definitely not dog friendly and could do with a bit of looking after. There is a busy road on the other side of the fence, we couldn’t let our dog off the lead. The kitchen is well equipped with nice dishes and glasses, fridge could do with updating. The cottage is isolated and you have to use the motorways to get around. Unfortunately the weather was not in our favour and we came home 2 days early.

It is within easy reach of many places to visit. The owner Claire was very friendly and left us generous welcome pack with delicious cake and wine amongst other items. This is a beautiful bungalow in lovely surroundings in the heart of the garden of England.

We arrived in the middle of a rainstorm and were shown around by Clare, the owner, who had left a massive welcome pack of goodies to eat and drink. The living area is large and roomy, the kitchen well stocked with a dishwasher and large fridge and proper freezer and there was plenty of crockery and everything you could possibly need for four people, never mind just the two of us. The bedroom with en-suite is lovely with access to an enclosed flower garden. We had absolutely no trouble with TV signal or WiFi. We don’t have a dog and were a little apprehensive about others having a dog there before us but the place was immaculately clean and tidy. The parking spot is a little tight, and there is room for only one car but that was all we needed. We drove straight to the bungalow without getting lost (which is a first for us!) due to the precise directions provided, and we quickly learned how to get about the local area. We recommend booking the local attractions well in advance; we will have to visit Leeds castle next time we are in Kent, and we very much hope to stay at Westgate Cottage again.

The kitchen had very limited cooking utensils.

..ie one frying pan...and we finished up buying some utensils that we bought home with us. The advertised wi-fi never connected. There is a BT hub in the socket but the password was for a Sky wi-fi. The cottage is spacious but is tired in decor and there was a lot of cobwebs in every room and behind doors. We were also told to supervise our dog in the garden as the fence was broken and there was a busy main road the other side. There was a welcome food pack for our arrival which was nice. The cottage is in the middle of nowhere so you would be very stuck if you didn't drive.

We loved Westgate cottage.

It was in a lovely spot and close enough to major roads to enable us to get out and about and see some lovely parts of Kent including Chartwell and Sissinghurst National Trust estates. Our host was very welcoming and left a very kind welcoming pack. We could have stayed longer in this spacious but cosy and warm cottage. We hope to return sometime.

There was a welcome package for us when we arrived which was very well received after a 6 hour drive. Cottage was warm and clean situated in a nice quiet location with a lovely Greek taverna and craft centre which does a good breakfast a minutes drive down the road

Everything you could possibly need in this comfortable little cottage.

Tucked away from a busy lane leading directly to the main route to the Kent coast and M2, it's perfect for exploring. The welcome was lovely with cake, a bottle of wine and a few essentials to start your holiday. The WiFi is just about adequate, so not sure how good it would be for gamers. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would be happy to come back here.

Owners went above and beyond in making the cottage welcoming.

Everything you could possibly need was included and the shower was lovely and hot. Spotlessly clean and tidy throughout. Quick tip for dog owners. There is a communal ground to walk your dog on in nearby Bredgar. Park in the close opposite. Bredgar is about 2 miles away. Thank you Zach and Claire for your excellent cottage

Brilliant base for exploring Kent.

Very comfortable accommodation with its own patio and sitting area. Hosts very friendly and welcoming. Beautiful homemade cake and a fridge full of goodies to start us off for the week. Would certainly recommend.

The garden was very pretty and well kept. It was the perfect size for our dog. The welcome pack was the best we have had from any self catering. It is ideally located for easy access to all parts of Kent.

I was especially pleased that dogs were allowed at no extra charge and had use of the front garden.

Thank you very much for that. A good walk for dogs at Blean woods at Canterbury, but walks are not well signed so take care not to get lost as I might have had there not been a lot of people around that day. Canterbury lovely as usual, but be warned that parking charges are extortionate...£1.90 per hour in the multi story at Whitefriars. In fact parking charges in Kent generally are high compared to where I live. My trip was to do historical research and much of my time was spent at the archives at Maidstone and my total cost of parking for the week came to £20. Near to the cottage there is a "craft centre", which has quite a nice little shop where I got some lovely post cards and mats of Kentish scenes reasonably priced. Other items there too pricey for me, but still a nice shop and cafe. Finally a word of praise for Sainsbury's and Argos staff in Sittingbourne who were exceptionally helpful/friendly.

it was like home from home. the host claire was so friendly and helpful.and the welcome package exceeded anything we have ever experienced before. Our stay here was exceptional. We cannot wait to get back. when we arrived we just wanted to move our belongings in and live here forever. It was accessable to the whole area of this garden of eden. my family live close by and visited, they were amazed at this beautiful property.a little off the beaten track which they hadn't known was there.My sister thinks she may use it as a quick quiet get away from her home in Rainham Thank you so much Claire and Zach for our unforgettable wedding anniversay stay.

The property is rather dated and in need of a refurbishment.

The bed dips in the middle. The shower cubicle is leaking as there is a damp patch on the wall. The owner is very pleasant and rather exceeds the usual welcome pack with wine, cake, butter, milk, bread, cookies and a multitude of bathroom supplies.

The cottage is a real home from home and the welcome pack exceeded our expectations. There is everything you need and it is very clean and comfortable. The cottage is situated in an area where you can easily travel to places. Would highly recommend.

The Sykes Cottages staff were really helpful and pleasant to deal with, they went out of their way as they knew we were struggling with no wifi connection.

Very clean, extremely comfortable bed, spacious kitchen and lounge. And Claire provided a most generous 'welcome package'. The property is quiet and includes a pretty garden and patio.

Westgate Cottage is well situated, not far at all from the historic sites and cities, from London and from the seaside. All within 1/2 to 1 hour drive.This part of Kent is very interesting and beautiful. We had a wonderful and enjoyable stay and for our next trip to Kent we certainly shall choose Westgate Cottage again. We highly recommend it.
