Description
Nestled in the heart of Whitstable, Kent is this delightful cottage, Fishermans Cottage.
Hosting three bedrooms and just a stone's throw away from the bustling harbour, this property makes for a perfect seaside escape for all the family.
Park up in the off-road parking at the rear of the cottage, with enough space for two cars, and step inside the inviting abode.
The sitting room has homely décor, two plush sofas, adding extra comfort, whilst you gather for a film night or a glass of wine after dinner.
Seating six guests, the neighbouring dining room has classic cottage features including an original feature fireplace, wooden floors and white-washed walls, where you can host a dinner party or plan the day ahead over a class English breakfast.
You'll find excellent amenities in the kitchen including an electric oven and hob, microwave and fridge with ice box, as well as a handy washer and tumble dryer, so you can pack light and quickly clean beach-worn clothes and towels.
Completing the ground is a minimal bathroom where the heated towel rail will warm your towel whilst you take a relaxing bubble bath or a hot shower before exploring Whitstable's nightlife.
Three beautiful bedrooms rest upstairs with plenty of storage space to unpack your belongings; a spacious double and a twin, which leads through to another double, are all snug settings to climb under the sheets and rest up ready for tomorrow's adventures.
Outside there is a sheltered spot to savour your morning coffee at the outdoor seating, before taking a short walk into the vibrant centre of Whitstable.
Restaurants, bars and quaint little shops are all within easy reach to stock up the cupboards or head out for an evening meal to taste the local cuisine.
Stroll along the picturesque harbour to find arts and crafts markets, as well as a popular seafood restaurant, before heading to Whitstable beach where plenty of cafés are scattered along the seafront.
Jump in the car and head east to Herne Bay, another fantastic seaside town with a long pier dotted with intriguing huts hosting independent shops, crafts and entertainments, whilst the iconic waterfront clock tower and Seaside Museum present local history, art and fossils.
Journey south further inland to the beautiful city of Canterbury with its winding cobbled streets, a majestic cathedral bursting with history, or catch a show at the popular Marlowe Theatre before heading to a traditional pub.
Margate is a vibrant town resting on the coast a little further east; pack a picnic and head to the sandy beach, wander through the old town packed with fascinating architecture and vintage shops, and be charmed by local history in the Margate Caves and Shell Grotto, a mysterious, Grade I-listed passageway discovered in 1835, covered in beautiful mosaics made entirely of seashells.
Fishermans Cottage is brimming with character for a lovely stay along the Kent coast, where there's something for every guest to enjoy.

What guests are saying
The cottage benefits from its convenient location and parking for 2 cars.
We were warm and cosy. The kitchen was well equipped, although might benefit from some baking trays, and the shower was good. However the damp in the property needs to be dealt with. One wall in the bathroom was covered in black mould. We also think the toilet is leaking. The property could also benefit from new towels, pillows and bed linen.
Overall, rather disappointing, and well short of the typical properties previously booked via Sykes.
Whilst accepting that this is an old property, it has a musty smell, and in so many respects the standards of maintenance are below par. Some specifics only (there are too many to list) include: • The bedding, whilst appearing to be laundered, was grubby, through age. Nothing is ironed, adding to the dated look. The bed and mattress are both old. • The towels were similar – discoloured with age, and with many having grubby marks (mascara probably). On the first morning we went out and bought our own towels and pillowcases. • The kitchen appears to be quite new, and was generally perfectly adequate, but the tea towel supplied was stained, there are no oven gloves, only one of the saucepans had a lid (but that was broken), no roasting tray (although many glass trays), frying pan base bevelled, other small frying pan had a broken handle, cafetière spout chipped, kitchen sink needed a good clean. No dustpan. • Kitchen clock not changed to GMT (from two weeks earlier), lounge clock fallen off the wall and now propped up by the TV – but not working (probably something as simple as an exhausted battery). A picture in the dining area had fallen off the wall and was left propped up. All in all, a lack of attention to detail. • Accommodation is for up to 6, but there were only 4 placemats, and just one coaster. The tablecloth / table runner was grubby and stained. • Light in the lounge was gone. We replaced with another bulb found in a cupboard, but not really bright enough. One of the bulbs in the landing ceiling was not working. • External light to the rear not working – returning to the property late afternoon in November it was dark, and difficult to safely see, and to get the key in the door. Tatty and rotten duckboards on the approach to the rear door. No light at the front door. • The bathroom seems to be quite new and has an excellent shower. However, a lack of attention to detail lets it down – the toilet seat has been replaced recently (albeit with a cheap plastic one) – but the old seat is stuffed down by the side of the washbasin! Why not throw it away? Dirt behind toilet under the toilet brush – probably staining from water leaking from somewhere rather than something more sinister! • Tumble dryer full – fortunately we had no need to use it, but it should have been emptied prior to guest arrival. • Scant information about the cottage in the information folder – no instructions for waste disposal – we just used random bins to the rear. The bin lids state “no food waste” but without guidance on what to do, this went in the bin too. No local contact number for owner/caretaker; only for Sykes main office. • Entire property could do with a repaint, a deep clean, and clutter thrown out. With a bit of TLC, it could be wonderful as location wise it is perfect, and with the welcome bonus of car parking at the rear (also could do with a tidy up). At the moment, however, it looks as if the property has been largely neglected for many years save for probably some money spent on the kitchen and bathroom. 2/5 score is generous. It is now well behind the times for what is expected in 2025.
Very nice house, well equipped.
Just a 3-minute walk to Whitstable Harbour, the High Street, and Harbour Street. It was very convenient to have our own parking spaces behind the house.
