What guests are saying
We have stayed at this apartment many times and consider it a 'home from home'.
However, over the last three visits, we have noticed the standard of cleanliness slipping. On this visit, parts of the apartment were positively dirty. There was mould in the shower and gunge around the basin taps. The coffee tables were covered in a thick layer of dust and the carpet was gritty and dusty. We ended up hoovering the lounge, including behind the sofa, and buying cleaning wipes to remove some of the dirt and grime. While the bedding was obviously clean, there were some faint stains on the duvet cover. All of this significantly reduced our enjoyment of our stay, and we are thinking of looking at alternative accommodation for future trips to Rye. Very disappointing, as we love this apartment and its location.
A valuable lesson learnt by not reading through previous comments.
Issues: The chair outside rickety & should be removed & repaired or replaced. Smears all over the main windows. Thick dust on the sofa arms & back. Cushions not attached which revieled more dirt & a tissue. Thick dust on light fittings Bin with old waste stuck to bottom TV on when arrived, we thought someone was in Dust and dirt on TV Washing machine dirty Kick boards in kitchen area dirty Inside & outside of kitchen cupboards dirty. Oven dirty Lack of a set of sharp kitchen knives Crockery mismatched & lacking. A full set of matching items would be much better. Hoover that is no use Iron with a paper towel poked in the water hole. Welcome pack that was unexpected but poor. Bag of ice frozen to back of ice box ... reported before. Bathroom bin dirty Bathroom floor...not washed ... horror show of dirt & hair. Shower has mold in grout & on taps. Shower head & hose needs replacing & is leaking Bedroom linen white or yellow unsure & should be replaced. Towels plenty but like brillo pads Dust & mold on/around bedrooms windows. Storage for food lacking if you plan to eat at the property all week. Lots of these have been mentioned before. You may ask why we didn't reach out to the owners once we started to notice these issues. As per previous comments, we didn't want someone turning up to push dust around while we were there or let themselves in while we were out. What 7 waves needs is the time between check out to next check in to be properly used. A deep clean is desperately needed. New bedding, towels, crockery & cutlery could salvage a very dissapointing property into something really special. Good things : The location or the property is ideal for a restful quiet break in Rye. Parking behind property. A brisk 5 minute walk from the town. A 5 minute drive to Rye Harbour. With plenty of nice places to eat & drink. The Globe Inn Marsh Rye is a great example of this.
This was our 4th stay at the property.
Some issues this time that should have been sorted while we were still there, basically lack of 'everyday' bits and pieces in the kitchen and a less than satisfactorily cleaned shower room. Messaged the owner/caretaker on the Sunday but no reply to the text. However when we returned to the property on the Monday after being out for the day, washing up liquid and kitchen roll had been left for us. Not really very satisfactory that someone entered the property without notifying us first. The en-suite has suffered over the years, tiling covered in mould and not 'sparkling' as per the listing. The floor, although appearing clean was in fact quite grubby. So at the end of the holiday when we returned home we again contacted Sykes but disappointed by the responses, the issues we raised were never really resolved as they said time and time again that they'd contacted the owner who on each and every occasion had failed to respond to them. two and a half months after we returned home we were given a £50 refund as a goodwill gesture but got the feeling it was just to 'shut us up'. We would have loved to return next year for a further visit if the various issues were sorted but a lack of response from either Sykes or the owner suggests the issues remain. So very disappointing. We'd loved our time in the property on the 3 previous occasions we'd stayed.
