The cottage was cosy, very clean and well equipped.

My wife and I have stayed at old kiln before, this is our third time here.
its such a beautifull place,nice and quiet. There's plenty to see the coastline is fantastic, the owners garden offers lots of wildlife and there is plenty to see. Nearby villages are also beautifull and offers plenty of walks and picturesque views. The owners pam and chris are nearby if you require anything, but the cottage has it all. We can't wait to come back again and again and again.
Old Kiln Cottage is a lovely, clean and well equipped cottage situated in extensive grounds, with visiting wildlife providing an added bonus.
It's location provides a good base for exploring the Dumfries and Galloway area.
Kiln Cottage is wonderful.
This was our second visit to this property. It had everything needed for a week's stay. It was spotlessly clean, warm and cosy. The cottage is set in the owners' grounds, which are wonderful and full of amazing wild animals and birds. The location is great to explore the Solway Firth coastline, with plenty of great walks, and places to eat.

I would give the Old Kiln Cottage a score of 9.
75 out of 10, almost perfect. Lovely and secluded. Next to owners property but not overlooked by it, away from the road and maybe a mile from the next nearest house ? so peaceful. A total wildlife magnet, all to be seen from the main window, all manner of birds, rabbits, mice, deer, and if you need more go for a nice wander down the grounds to a seat overlooking the tidal river course, perfect for relaxing. A nice size tv ( not the usual small ones you often get ) a comfy settee that's not collapsed, good matching cutlery and crockery, all the utensils and pots and pans that you might need, lovely modern and clean bathroom with good shower and nice bedroom. Heating was good in every room. Mattress has a bit of a ridge in the middle but Ok, pillows Ok. The only thing preventing it being a 10 out of 10 was a slightly fusty smell in the hall way that was noticeable as soon as I walked in to the cottage and the constant woodlice ! It was not uncommon to have 2 or 3 running around in the bathroom every day and I even saw one crawling up the bedroom wall. Not harmful but some people could find them creepy and I stood on one on a night time toilet trip !. Other than this very highly recommended
This cottage was outstanding and very comfortable.
There were gardens where you could walk around with lovely countryside views. Shop and pub not too far away. Would highly recommend this property for a nice quiet break. Hosts were very welcoming and helpful. Lynn and Ronnie.
The cottage is well situated in a quiet location along a track well away from the road next to the the owner's house.
The accommodation is well furnished with all the modern necessities to enjoy modern living. It would be difficult to find any fault and would highly recommend it to other guests.

The welcome pack was very welcome! The visitors' book was a great source of ideas for places to visit and where to eat. Fantastic location for exploring the Dumfries and Galloway region. Wi-fi good and access to Netflix a bonus. We didn't get to explore the grounds but going by the drive up to the cottage they are very special. Although it was a cold February we didn't need to light the log fire - it was cosy enough with just the radiators.

This is a peaceful beautiful place to stay.
Birds and wildlife pass through the beautiful garden and you can walk around the woods. The cottage is cosy and clean. The log burner is wonderful on a cold evening. We've stayed 4 times (so far) and will return again.

Cottage well equipped and just right for us with much appreciated welcome pack on arrival. We really enjoyed exploring the area with good access to coastal strolls and forest walks plus the challenge of Criffel with amazing panoramic views. Great location to learn about local history and cultural life within easy driving distance too. Return visit highly likely!
We really enjoyed the peace and quiet here and looking at the lovely views through the windows.
It was also good watching the birds feeding and sitting for a while at the Look-out in the grounds. There are lots of places of interest within easy reach and even though the weather was mixed, we had plenty of sunny spells while we were there.

The cottage was delightful in a very private and quiet location with walks in the extensive gardens to a creek running into the Solway Firth.
We saw hares & deer in the property grounds.

its so quiet and peaceful, there is everything you need. The cottage is excellent and exceptionally clean, it's a perfect little get away. The views and garden are superb and the wildlife you see is amazing, also there's plenty of local places to visit. The owners Chris & Pamela are lovely too. We have booked to go back next year already.

Kiln cottage had all we needed. The walk around the property was lovely, the birds in the garden were great to watch and feed. Set in a great area to visit nature reserves, beaches, walks and many more things to do and see. Would totally recommend.

Lovely surroundings especially for nature lovers. Plenty of birdlife in a peaceful setting.
I like to complain, so you can imagine how annoyed I was when I couldn’t find anything to complain about, the hosts live nearby, but you wouldn’t know they were there, they are both helpful and friendly, the walk from the front door around the estate is an added bonus, the cottage is perfectly situated for touring and exploring this area of Scotland, [this is not a complaint, I’ve probably overlooked it, the only thing I couldn’t find was an information sheet about what to do before leaving, ie like stripping the bed or not and where to leave used linen, towels and rubbish bag etc] I had a great holiday and would hope to return again.

We had a lovely time and would recommend the Cottage.
Just to point out the only issue we had was two things. 1 Bed was to soft unfortunately. We both have back issues 2 Settee nears to be updated to low when sitting down cushions to soft and no support.

The Old Kiln Cottage is one of the nicest Sykes properties we’ve stayed at.
It is comfortable and had everything we could wish for. The grounds have an interesting walk and the property is central for visiting places of interest in the Dumfries area.
A lovely peaceful holiday (despite the rainy weather !
). Accommodation was clean and comfortable. There is plenty to see and visit in this area ( a good range of leaflets with information supplied by the owners.)The kitchen facilities are modern and easy to use.The owners are very friendly and helpful. It is very well situated for exploring Dumfries and Galloway with nice coastline and walks nearby. The welcome basket was a nice treat when we arrived. Having access to Netflix and a good sized smart TV was also very welcome. There was plenty of firelighting/firewood so we could enjoy the log burner when needed. Overall, a very enjoyable place to have a nice break.

A beautifully situated cottage away from the hustle and bustle of life.
Surrounded by nature with lots of birds and deer in the garden. A magical drive down to the cottage from the main road.
What a magical place even in the 2 storms we encountered whilst we were there so much wildlife on your door step, Pamela, Chris and Roxy so friendly.
Would definitely recommend and the welcome basket very much appreciated, very clean and comfy cottage made the most of the log burner whilst we were there!

It is clean and comfortable with modern fixtures and fittings throughout and is set in the owner’s extensive grounds amongst mature gardens and woodland. This was a delightful cottage in such a pretty setting absolutely loved it perfect for us would highly recommend it.
Old Kiln cottage was in a delighful location adjacent to the owner's house.
It was lovely to have use of the spacious grounds for a walk in the evening and to access the salt marshes to do some bird watching. The cottage was clean and well presented although storage for food stuff was a bit limited, maybe a couple of shelves in the kitchen area would help. One other suggestion would be a couple of hooks on the back of the bathroom door for bath towels so that you could grab one from the shower without having to get out completely. We would recommend this cottage and stay again the owners were very friendly but not intrusive.

It was peaceful with wildlife to see from the window and acres of woodland to explore leading down to a seat overlooking a tidal creek. Perfect!

We had a very comfortable and restful week in idyllic surroundings.
Could not fault the cottage, the gardens which Pamela and Chris allow guests to wander round are lovely.
All in all this was a nice quite place to stay. Everything that you need was in the cottage. We found it warm enough not to light the log burner.

A comfortable, well equipped property provided by friendly owners in beautiful surroundings.
It is great to find a property of such a high standard that has also been well thought out and equipped to make for a really comfortable stay. We were happy to spend time sitting both inside and out as well as preparing and cooking meals some evenings. The grounds offer good bird watching with the chance of added mammals! Typical of this area, a car is pretty much essential with little that can actually be done "from the door", but there are many options within a few miles for walking, cafes, restaurants and sites to visit.

Everything is provided including a woodburning stove for those chilly evenings. Many walks nearby including Criffel Hill, Mereshead RSPB reserve and Galloway Forest Park. One week is not enough to see everything in this overlooked area. Highly recommended.
We had a very relaxing comfortable stay in Old Klin cottage.
There is not a single thing I can think of that could have made it any better! Galloway and the Solway coast is stunningly beautiful in all weather and times of year. We thoroughly enjoyed the walks. What a variety so close together, from hill walking one day to coastal walk the next and then a forest walk! Everyone in the area we met, including our host's were warm and friendly, a special thank you to our host who made us very welcome. Another last thing to mention is the silence. There are not many places where you can find that stillness, and silence....And the stars are so bright. We loved it. Thank you.

It is in its own private woodland, and is very peaceful. Lots of wildlife on your doorstep, the sea only a minutes drive away. The cottage itself is spotless and well equipped and the owners are lovely people.

Old Kiln Cottage was just the right size for 2 people and was warm, comfortable and well equipped.
The decor was lovely and there was a great welcome pack with seasonal treats including delicious home made sloe gin. The cottage was quiet, well away from the road and handy for walking and exploring the beautiful Solway coast.

Great guard dog who loves to play and the owners were friendly and helpful. Quite remote so is more of a bolt hole but lots of lovely countryside and beaches to explore. Would recommend a stay.

We had no rain for a full week,it was magic.
From the moment we saw Old Kiln Cottage we felt at home.
Chris and Pamela had thought of everything and everything about the cottage was of high quality and perfect taste. I had rung before our arrival and Chris had made sure we had a lightweight duvet. This is a very important part of a holiday as in the past I have had to buy a suitable one. The grounds and facilities are superb and we had a chum to walk with (their lovely dog Roxy). We had the company of deer, bats and cows at our bathroom window in the morning. The views on our evening walks were amazing, and once again the owners came up trumps and sorted out a BBQ stand for us to enjoy a fabulous steak from the butcher in Castle Douglas. What more can we ask for? Scenery, good weather and 1st class accommodation. We will return.
The owners have created a beautiful cottage in the rural setting of their home.
It is so peaceful, no sounds, just cows and fallow dear roaming in the adjacent fields. Tranquility at its finest. don’t take my word for it, book a stay yourself and see.

A really delightful cottage situated in extensive, well maintained, natural grounds.
It is very small but very well planned and equipped and we never felt cramped. The bay window where the dining table is situated is a delight and gives the impression of lots of space. The provision of Netflix is a splendid feature and, with minimal cost, is something which all rental property owners should consider for those wet and windy evenings. We have two points to raise which would eliminate any reservations: 1) a non slip mat in the shower and 2) if there are no planning objections, a traffic mirror opposite the exit from the drive would be beneficial - visibility is limited by a bend a short distance away to the right and traffic can appear very quickly.

We thoroughly enjoyed our week in "Old Kiln" cottage.
Beautiful throughout and the attention to detail was second to none. Exceptionally clean which allowed us to relax even more. We were given a plentiful supply of fuel for the wood burner which was more than capable of heating the cottage. Appliances and equipment were of high quality. A lovely welcome basket greeted us including a few pods for the Nespresso coffee machine to get us started. The grounds were absolutely gorgeous and we really enjoyed our evening stroll. Anyone who wants to spend a holiday here will not be disappointed.
