What guests are saying
Spacious, well equipped house in a beautiful location.
The property was more than big enough for our family party of 8 adults and one dog and was really well equipped. The beds are very comfortable and its obvious there have been new carpets and bathroom floorings laid recently, however certain parts of the property are a bit tired - the kitchen units all look as if they've suffered some water damage (even some of the higher ones!) and many of the bedroom doors don't shut properly. Having read the previous guest comment about the dishwasher not working I'd hoped this would have been fixed by the time we arrived but after spending a few hours trying to work it out (since the dishwasher instructions provided are for the wrong machine!) we were disappointed to find that wasn't the case. This was unfortunate given our party size and plans for an early Christmas dinner with all the trimmings for the Sunday of our stay! The rather abrupt instructions about the dog not being allowed upstairs or in bedrooms seems a little extreme and is very difficult to enforce as there is no gate at the bottom of the stairs and the bedroom doors don't shut properly - we ended up resorting to using the small baby mattress as a gate at the bottom of the stairs to prevent him roaming up there! The understairs cupboard in the downstairs bedroom really should be kept locked as it houses a huge amount of electrical and under floor heating cables, many of which are loose and open ended with no idea of knowing if they're live or not - thankfully we were all adults and know better, but small children may be more curious... Unfortunately the weather was not good enough for us to enjoy the garden, in fact we had two long power cuts whilst at the property because of the storms (providing torches could be a good addition for these instances) but all in all a great spacious house for large groups but just needs a little more TLC in some areas.
Lovely property for a long weekend (which included 7 adults, 1 baby and 2 dogs).
Helpful utility for the dogs, nice and spacious and plenty of pots and pans etc. Only downside was the dishwasher wasn’t working (which wasn’t ideal with how many of us there were) but we all mucked in to sort. Some cobwebs found in the en-suite with a few flies but on a whole very clean. We will certainly consider for our next family trip, thank you.
We found Beckwood to be a perfect place for our large group to spread out.
The cottage was beautiful & large garden great for the dogs to run around, although not enclosed, which we knew. The scenery was breathtaking & we found several walks close to us. It would have been nice to have pointers as to where we were allowed to walk being surrounded by farms so that we could be sure we weren’t trespassing! Aira falls was only 4 miles down the road! Which was amazing! Our one criticism was the rather forceful notice that we were to hoover & clean so no trace of our dogs were left before we vacated. Also the note saying no dogs on furniture or in the bedrooms. This tainted our stay as several of the doors (downstairs bedroom & front door - which we had to keep locked so no escapees! Were the worst.) If we had previous information about this, we would have brought a stair gate with us. Constantly worried that our dogs were in areas they shouldn’t be or leaving hairs, which of course anll dogs do! Our dogs are a part of our family, hence searching for a ‘dog friendly’ cottage. We found it very disappointing to feel our dogs weren’t really welcome at all. We have stayed in many cottages with our dogs before & of course were respectful, leaving the rentals as we would expect to find them. But never have been asked to hoover a property before leaving! The dish washer door was also broken with a screw hanging out of one side, which my son in law caught his hip on. - (just for your information.) Other than the ‘dog’ issue, we had a lovely 4 days & would probably have booked again as the proximity to Penrith & many other places to visit was perfect for us. Thank you.
