A last minute short break.

Communication was exemplary. The accommodation was spot on- a lovely, clean, well appointed house. The local information was really helpful- it's in such a great spot too.

We had a lovely holiday at the Abbots Reading Cottage, it was warm, comfortable and ideal to relax in after a day of walking and exploring the South Lake District area.

Plenty to do and see all within a short driving distance. The cottage was very accommodating for our dog too.

Had a brilliant stay, the cottage lived upto our expectations and more.

Perfect location, enjoyed the peace and tranquility, with stunning walks on the doorstep. Just a minor detail, sadly for me, the pillows were too hard, perhaps one of them could be softer

Fabulous place to stay.

Kitchen and living room so spacious and really homely. Bedrooms and en-suite really nice (although the duvets were a little small for us), and fully appreciated the thick heavy blackout curtains. Unfortunately it was very wet whilst we were there, so we didn't get to explore the dog pen but plenty of sniffs otherwise. Only minor issue was I fell up the side steps to the top level due to the flags being wet and it's wasn't that well lit, but I could have probably taken more care and there was a handrail. Would definitely stay again, it's quiet but not too far from shops/supermarkets etc but far enough away for some piece and quiet. The quality of the furnishings and fixtures are excellent.

Communication from Mark the owner was excellent and very helpful. We would have no hesitation in staying at Abbots Reading Cottage again and would highly recommend to others.

A great place to stay. Lovely and clean. Owner very nice. Grounds lovely and amazing dog run. Did miss a dish washer but I did enjoy washing the pots while watching the sheep or cows coming down the track. Lovely walks.

Lovely property.

The bedrooms although compact both have an ensuite and a tv which is unusual. There is also plenty of storage space. The lounge,separate bathroom and kitchen are very large and well appointed. The biggest and fluffiest towels we’ve ever had. Mark was very friendly and helpful. Before we arrived he provided very useful information and then notified us of a potential problem which didn’t apply. Very enjoyable stay.

Mark and his wife are lovely; great cottage and, a pleasant environment.

I really enjoyed my stay.

It was a lovely property with good fixtures and fittings.

The only downside was the size of the bedrooms, the split bedroom was a tight squeeze for two adults and the amount of storage was challenging. The duvets were a problem in that they kept sliding off the beds and the pillows were too hard. Hooks on the back of the bedroom doors would have been a great help.

Lovely cottage in a great setting, great for our dog having the short wood walk for morning and evening visits.

We would have preferred a bigger bed in the main room, we felt there would be space, although there is the option of two single beds joined together in the second room, the room was smaller.

The rug was grubby in the lounge area, but we understand with dogs it’s difficult to keep things clean, maybe a darker rug or washable one. Everywhere else was clean and comfortable The lounge and kitchen were amazing with the amount of space and facilities, very comfortable and didn’t need anything else.

The Abbots Reading Cottage is a gem located in paradise.

The house offers all the comfort you can possibly think of.

Plenty of space and the surrounding grounds have been designed to offer something for everyone. The location is convenient & quiet…away from the busy tourist areas. Host is very kind, helpful and provided lots of useful information. Highly recommended.

Great pre-stay communication from the owner with clear details.

The cottage was spotless and very cosy. Better than adequate furniture and very well equipped kitchen. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend or indeed stay again. Thanks for a great break!

Had a lovely time in a beautiful and convenient location.

Our only criticism was we all found the mattresses very hard, suggest thicker mattress toppers. Otherwise it was a beautifully presented property and we all enjoyed our time there.

Mark was the perfect host, providing an immediate response whenever we contacted him. The property was lovely and spotlessly clean. The location was really peaceful with some fantastic walks from the doorstep. It was ideal for commuting to other parts of The Lakes for days out and further walks too. We would definitely recommend Abbots Reading cottage and we will be returning for another holiday there in the future.

We had a fantastic stay and the weather was beautiful.

My children thoroughly enjoyed the 'holiday house'. It was extremely comfortable and the owners we warm and very friendly. Will definitely return if they will allow.

The property is in a beautiful setting and provides a great base for exploring The Lakes.

Communication with the owner was excellent and pre arrival information was helpful. The kitchen was very large and the lounge area provided a great space for relaxing after long walks.

Quiet but convenient location, dog friendly cottages ( we hired two for an extended family holiday) immaculately presented and comfortable. Made to feel very welcome by owner and Sykes - will definitely be back

We really enjoyed staying at this beautiful cottage.

It is in a very peaceful location with lovely surrounding walks and places to visit.

Beautiful location, in the country and not far from the main towns.

Cottage is very clean and has a wonderful little wood next door for doggy walks. The accommodation is set around a courtyard shared with other holiday rentals so it doesn’t have its own enclosed garden. The building is finished to a high standard with a beautiful fitted kitchen and new furniture throughout but despite this, the appliances are fairly basic and there is no dishwasher. We suggest replacing the iron, pans, baking trays, and wok as they have all seen better days. It was great having two very nice en-suite shower rooms but beds were a big disappointment. Hard mattresses, rock solid pillows and duvets which are barely wide enough for two people. I see from other reviews that this issue has been raised before so it definitely needs attention. A good quality mattress topper, fluffier pillows and a better duvet would make the sleeping arrangements much more comfortable. And it would be great to have a Smart TV in the lounge instead of just Freeview. Other little touches which would make a big difference include a welcome tray with some complimentary items like tea/coffee/toiletries, etc, some milk in the fridge and the house being warm on arrival. With these improvements it really would be a luxury cottage. The location is very convenient for exploring the South Lake District and all in all we had a great holiday.

Really loved our stay at the cottage, the only very minor things that it could do with are larger duvets that overhang the bed more, softer bed pillows, and a dishwasher.

These however are not complaints, mere suggestions. I really cannot grumble with the cottage. It was beautiful, immaculate, the owner (Mark) was brilliant, location was perfect. We will definitely be back.

One of the best stays, a beautiful little house in a beautiful location

The stairs down to bedrooms are quite steep.

Generally the cottage is well equipped and is in a great location for exploring the Southern Lake District.

For such a well appointed cottage we would have expected comfortable beds and (maybe) a dishwasher. The beds are very hard which for some may suit some but not for the four of us.

We stayed at Abbots Reading Cottages for a birthday celebration renting out the Cottage, Mews 1 and the Suite.

All the cottages were immaculate. We all ate together every night (10 of us and 4 dogs in total) in the Cottage which has plenty of room! The dogs loved the forest walk too and the pen! Great for dogs, so pet friendly. Super walks from the door. We had a family bbq in the shared outdoor area. Fabulous! Would highly recommend!

Thoroughly loved the cottage.

Very clean, bed were amazing. Information book was very useful. Such a fabulous location if you're looking to avoid the busy towns. Situated between the two main lakes its ideal for access to the coast and Ulveston town too. Thanks to Sykes and the Cottage owners from their great service, we'll be back!

Loved your super cottage, just a couple of minor things, the en suite in the smaller bedroom had a drainage smell, floors and carpet were not part particularly clean when we arrived.

After booking with you for 4 years on the trot prob won’t be back after the price increase just a bit to much ££££££££££

We loved the peaceful , scenic and tranquil setting in the middle of the lovely countryside .

We haven’t got a dog, but it is a perfect place if you want to take your pets on holiday with you. The upside down rooms of our cottage were very comfortable and we loved the large , well stocked kitchen which had views across to a working neighbouring farm with a very friendly lady called Molly there who welcomed us over when we called to purchase some eggs. We very much hope to return one day!

The quality of the accommodation was outstanding.

We were warm, comfortable and had everything we needed. Even our old dog was well catered for as the property has its own little wood in which we could walk. The smell of wild garlic in the evenings was quite 'heady' and will be a great memory. This was our first break s for eighteen months and could not have been better. Thank you

Cottage was spotless and has everything you could need. Didn’t manage to explore local amenities due to the covid restrictions but a couple of walks showed us the potential if we came back.
