A delightful ground floor apartment, set within a Grade II listed former mill, nestling alongside the River Aire in the Dales village of Airton.
2 Riverside Walk is an apartment that has been converted to a good standard and is situated in a beautiful location, with wonderful views of the surrounding countryside and the River Aire, as it meanders its way through the Dale.
The accommodation is set out over the ground floor, with an entrance hall at ground level.
Entering the apartment, you will find a charming open-plan living room with a kitchen, dining and living spaces boasting lovely furnishings and views across the river to the surrounding meadows.
There are two bedrooms offering a flexible sleeping arrangement for both families and groups of couples, served by two modern bathrooms.
The former mill is set in lovely, large communal grounds, which include a parking area, formal gardens, a drying area and access to 'Frank's Land', a beautiful riverside wild garden.
You can listen to the sound of the river from the open kitchen door.
There is approximately 800 yards of river frontage with fishing rights for two rods.
There are plenty of walking facilities from the door.
The Malham Spectacular encompassing Malham Cove, Gordale Scar and Janet's Foss was voted number 3 in ITVs Britains 100 Favourite walks and is also fully featured in Julia Bradburys TV series Best walks with a View (this can be viewed on the Sky Box in the apartment).
This 31/2 mile walk can be added to a lovely riverside stroll of approximately 2 miles directly from the property along the Pennine Way which passes in front of the property.
A personally customised 1:25000 OS explorer map, centred on the apartment, is supplied for guests use.
This Airton self-catering apartment is a beautiful, peaceful base for exploring this wild and fascinating area.

The only negative comment i would make is that the de-humidifier in the bedroom makes a hell of a racket.

The property is in good order and fairly spacious with a good selection of utilities.
The setting is idyllic but the outside furniture is a tad tired.

Lovely location listening to the river.
The property in need of an update and a good clean. Smells damp, dirty carpets, had to wash every item we used in kitchen, brown stains on the ceilings, duvets stained.
We are very disappointed and surprised by your review of our property. Our housekeepers response was as follows, "We check and wash everything in the kitchen as needed. Duvets are all clean and white. The carpets aren't at all bad" These are the same housekeepers we have used for many years and every guest cleaning grade in the year to date is 100%. We are often complimented in online reviews and the guest book. "another great stay...spacious and clean" " spacious, clean, comfortable" " .clean and tidy" " very clean and comfortable" " a lovely clean.. apartment" "very clean and comfy" "Spotlessly clean" Being in a grade 2 listed old mill there are compromises on how the apartment is presented. We have tried to keep its character, but there are two very modern well equipped bathrooms. The decor is appropriate and whilst we have had occasional leaks from the high ceilings resulting in very small water stains, the winter close down will address these. The level of bookings do not make it practical to deal with these small decor issues until then, and have never previously been commented on. Most of the ground floor has Amtico flooring. The two bedroom carpets whilst clean, are due to be replaced in the winter closedown. We also provide two dehumidifiers. These have a role in spring and autumn when guests do not ventilate the property which can result in condensation, being an old building without insulation. Being within a few feet of the river, there is inevitably a smell of water in the air, but given the weather over the last few weeks it is hard to comprehend the view that the building smelt damp. We are very sorry that your stay did not meet your expectations but clearly with all time average gradings of 96% for cleaning, 96% for comfort, 94% for facilities, 97% for accuracy of listing, and an overall guest review of 4.7 out of 5, and classed as outstanding, we hope you can understand our surprise that your views do not match those of our other guests.
The accommodation was lovely and clean, beds were comfy and bedrooms a good size.
Shower room was quite small but I was glad to see a rubber mat was provided for inside the slippy shower. Lovely big windows in the lounge but as I am fairly short the blind control cords were difficult to reach unless I stood on a chair. An injection of colour in the lounge may of helped to brighten that area a little too. But overall a great place right next to the river and lovely countryside. Thanks
Hi Emma. Thanks for your review. We are delighted you thought it a great place in a lovely location and that you have taken the time to comment on our apartment. On your specific observations, when planning the layout, we thought a very large walk in shower in the second bathroom was preferable to leaving a larger dressing area, given there is another large bathroom in the adjacent room. The windows are very tall, but the slat light controls on the blinds are readily accessible and it's only the cords for raising or lowering the whole blinds that are higher. This is partly a child strangulation safety issue re the main cords but we do provide steps in the lounge cupboard to assist if necessary. Standing on the chairs is not recommended! It was also a conscious decision that we made to use a neutral, black and white decor throughout which is in keeping with the industrial nature of the old mill, but clearly this is just a subjective view. The property was lovely as always, warm, clean & had everything we needed, it was ideal for us for visiting the dales.
All ground floor rooms which are a bonus for us, the river was lovely to see each day & the wildlife & dark skys were amazing. Definitely will be back and we recommend a stay at this lovely cottage.

We had lovely break, the apartment was very well equipped with everything you would need.
Furnished to a excellent level, the beds were very comfortable. We had a peaceful time with plenty of places around to visit. It is a ideal place if you love to do plenty of walking. I would throughly recommend this apartment and I would go back and stay here again.

The property was in an ideal location for exploring/walking the Yorkshire Dales and without always having to take the car.
It had everything you'd need for a week's holiday. Our only concern was the storage heaters as the type of heating. We were quite warm enough without them but even though we'd turned them off, they still appeared "warm" so were concerned about the waste of energy. Otherwise it was very comfy accommodation and having two bathrooms was a real treat. We would definitely recommend.

Our housekeeper tries to gauge the weather when setting the storage heaters and they do have input and output controls. They do retain heat for some time by the nature of the heaters. We have little other realistic choice, given there are no gas supplies and no method of oil storage at the Mill. They do however work on off peak rates overnight and are supplemented by stand alone heaters.
Could not have asked for a better place to stay during a walking weekend of the Yorkshire Dales.
The location is incredible and it only added to our wonderful weekend away. The flat has everything you could need and we really enjoyed being able to relax after our long walks. We immediately recommended it to a friend who has since booked!

Had an amazing holiday there and the grounds and walks are amazing.
Apart from the single track roads into the area, it really is a lovely little village of beauty, just stepping out the front door the wide stream is just there and nice to relax outside or take a walk in any direction. The place itself was really nice, full of character and a nice night sleep. Would definitely go back there one day and not too far from trips out, maybe 40-50 mins drive to some really nice locations like brimham rocks, ingleton falls, Malham cove, Plumpton rocks and stumpcross caverns to name a few. Thanks for such a holiday.

We had a perfect stay at the Riverside accomodation.
The apartment was spacious, clean, comfortable and had anything you needed for a holiday break. The surrounding was wonderful and we especially liked the sound of the river air floating by. We hope to be back one day!

It was a lovely visit.
The apartment was very well appointed as too the stunning location. We had a very rainy stay,but we still managed to get out and visit many places.The only downside was the 6.30 AM wake up call from the people upstairs and also at night. Footsteps!!. We will definitely be back and try and bring better weather

We were a little disappointed that there was no welcome pack at this accommodation, as we have always been left a little something to welcome us at Sykes Cottages in the past.
Otherwise the accommodation was comfortable and we had an enjoyable stay. Being a ground floor apartment, there was a bit of noise from the neighbours above moving around. The area is beautiful. A nice place to stay.

Beautiful location and we really enjoyed our week here - def recommended.
Lovely flat which has been modernised sympathetically. A TV issue which hopefully will be fixed: previous guest also commented on it, and as we stayed in every evening it did have an impact on our holiday, which is why the maintenance category scored lower. Otherwise, we would be very happy to stay again.

As we have discussed with you, the TV issues are confusing as we have not been able to replicate the problem you experienced and we previously concluded that atmospherics in the area were the issue and could be avoided by using the firestick or aerial as alternatives to the skydish. A very nice ground floor apartment, new sparkling bathrooms and comfy beds.
Lovely location by the river. Due to the aspect there isn’t a sunny spot to sit later in the day. As it was cool when we were there it didn’t matter, but in sunny and warm times it could be disappointing.

Well-appointed apartment in old mill with handy parking.
Lovely riverside location, chance of seeing wildlife though we only saw grey wagtails. swallows and sand martins as well as the common birds. Narrow footpath to great farm shop. Pennine Way runs just over the other side of the river, also great for walking. Good pubs, Victoria at Kirkby Malham is nearest. Also enjoyed Lister Arms at Malham, didn't get a chance to try the Buck Inn.
Thanks for the great review Gill. We are delighted you enjoyed your stay. Watching the wildlife from the apartment is one of our favourite pastimes as well. We regularly see Dippers, Goosander, Herons within a few yards of the kitchen door as well as squirrels weasels rabbits etc. Some guests have filmed otters from there no doubt after the trout! We had a great stay at this apartment.
It is very comfortable and warm and there are walks right from the door. We were almost put off by a review that said it was damp but we had no such issues and are very glad that we booked. We would definitely stay again.

Apologies for the delay - family illness has prevented me submitting this.
Sadly, there were things about the property that impacted negatively on our stay and we wouldn’t return. There were slugs inside the property (I have photos if these are required for verification). Whilst I appreciate it’s more damp when September arrives, this was really unpleasant. Picking up an oven tray to find a slug on the reverse was a particularly low point. Likewise, all of our clothes smelled very musty when we arrived home - a reflection of the dampness.
We were very surprised and disappointed that you felt the apartment was damp. It is an old mill right next to a river but this has never been an issue previously. We subsequently discovered the letter box was jammed open so we can only assume that any slugs must have come through there as there are plants right up to the front. We are sorry this impacted on your stay. We have also now provided a dehumidifier to prevent condensation which is possible if guests do not ventilate rooms.
The property was excellent: exactly as advertised and equipped to a high standard.
The location is fabulous, with the Pennine Way just across the stream and Malham Cove a short walk away. A more expensive cottage than some, but well worth the extra.

This is a marvellous place with a beautiful view and river flowing alongside the property.
The flat is in a shared building with other flats, but you don't hear a thing from your neighbours, apart from the odd thud of someone walking on the floor above, or going up some stairs - not a bother though. despite being a "flat", it was extremely spacious and very well maintained in terms of cleanliness and content. The dining table was lovely to eat at, looking out the window at the sheep and odd passer-by on the Pennine way, on the opposite of the river. The bathrooms are great (underfloor heating, warm towel rails, and powerful showers that maintained their water temperature!) - we only used one bathroom seeing as only the two of us stayed there. The bed was comfy and the sofa in the living area was nice to snuggle up on and read or watch something, using the proliferation of tech options the entertainment system offered - bring your Netflix and Prime account details, or just plug a laptop into the spare TV HDMI like we did because the Wi-Fi was very good in the cottage. Phone signal isn't great in the area, but you can set your phone to WiFi-calling to improve things if you need to make a call. We would definitely recommend this place and there are so many attractions and areas of interest to explore, either right out your front door or within an hour's drive. Top marks!!

lovely property in one of the most beautiful locations.
cleanliness was very good which is very important to us. one issue was a very creaky bed in the small bedroom as every move disturbed sleep. dealing with the owner was easy and he got straight back to me. perhaps we’ll stay again at some stage.

Great location especially for walking from the doorstep.
Very convenient car parking. Very clean accomodation very comfortable soft beds. Tv coverage very good. Heating worked fine. Large bedrooms bigger than photos show. Rug in lounge/kitchen a nuisance. If possible provide some shelf space in small bathroom.
We are delighted you enjoyed your stay at our property. The rug was a temporary measure to cover the soiled carpet near the coat rack area, but we have now had Amtico flooring fitted throughout the kitchen and lounge and removed the offending rug!

Located on the Dales Way it provided us with a good central location to drive only a short distance for walks to Malham, Gargrave, Grassington, Hetton, Conistone and Kettlewell.
Everything we needed for self catering was there and with a relaxing location sitting by the river Aire after our evening meal.

The accommodation was extremely good we all had a thoroughly relaxing time the cottage was plenty big enough for the four of us.
The location was really good with walks straight from the door . The television was not working when we got there but the owner had already messaged me to let me know was very apologetic, but when we arrived at the cottage there was already someone there trying to rectify the fault , couldn’t ask for better service than that. Altogether a fantastic place to stay.
We very much enjoyed our stay at Riverside Walk.
The apartment is comfortable, clean and well equipped. Sofa cushions had been removed we assumed, due to COVID, so we used the pillows instead. We loved the history of the place and were particularly taken with the old type-writer especially, as one half of the party was a previous typist! We managed to dodge most of the showers but be prepared, the Dales do have their fair share of rain. We enjoyed a walk by the river, visiting the towns of Skipton and Settle. There are a good choice of places to eat and drink. As artists, we were beyond delight to find ‘The Art Shop’ in Skipton. We sketched Malham Cove in a blustery north east wind but didn’t venture up the path to the top of the cove. Beautiful area with the river as a constant and a place to return in the future.

We had my elderly mother-in-law with us and she was able to access the property easily and comfortably.

The mill cottage had all the facilities we needed for a relaxing stay. Plenty of room for the 4 of us. Fantastic that the fast moving river was on our doorstep (but no fish seen unfortunately so fishing rights are of little use). Just one piece of info for guests, the off peak water heater has an off/on switch in the airing cupboard which wasn't mentioned in the property blurb - make sure this is switched on.

Lovely cottage with everything we needed in a perfect location by the river.
we enjoyed a lovely glass of wine and piece of cake sat on the terrace overlooking the river and saw a family of otters the icing on the cake!
Lovely, spacoius, open- plan apartment.
Books, DVDs, maps, games and magazines available. Amazon firestick. Loved staying here. The best part is the setting. Right outside the apartment is a babbling brook with a view of a field of sheep. You can catch the morning sun while watching the dippers and herons.
The flat was great and the riverside location is amazing.
It is a fantastic area to explore the Yorkshire dales from. The owners had provided lots of little extras like tea, coffee sugar, tinfoil, shampoo, soap, vinegar, oil and kitchen roll. The accommodation was well equipped and comfortable. The bathrooms were very modern. Thank you for a great holiday.
Washing machine noise from upstairs was only problem.
Location was excellent & the off road parking was a welcome bonus.

It was lovely sitting by the river eating our breakfast watching the birds. Lots of lovely pubs serving good food, I would 100% recommend this cottage.
