Riverville

Wonderfully spacious apartment, perfect for coming back to after a long, hard, wet day walking or running.

Beds are very comfortable and it was great to be able to relax in a nice hot bath, followed by sitting in the lounge overlooking the stream. The apartment is very well situated right in the centre of the village, and we were able to walk from the door all week. The Co-op just around the corner has all the main essentials. We had some difficulty finding the place initially as the landmark prompts did not seem to be clear. We had to park the car and locate the property on foot. It didn’t help that a car was parked in the driveway access to the car parking. The kitchen was well equipped, but the dishwasher may need some attention as it did not release the washing tablet and items remained dirty. On some occasions, it took a few attempts to get the machine to start the cycle.

A spacious well located property.

The river view is ever changing and appreciated whatever the weather. The property is warm, comfortable and well equipped.

This property is lovely very clean and is well situated in grasmere for any walks you want to do, it’s also near the bus stop if you want to get about on buses aswell.

The property is very tastefully decorated and the views of the river are lovely.

As all the other people we thought the location of the property was excellent.

The apartment was spacious and very comfortable. The kitchen was well equipped with everything you needed for meal preparation. Two things that surprise me was the lack of a hairdryer and toiletries. Stepping into the shower to find out soap shampoo. These are thing I have always taken for granted with such rentals.

Lovely property, the location is central in Grasmere above a shop & the other side overlooking the river and mountains.

The property itself is lovely and is equipped with everything you’d need. There was complimentary chocolates which was a nice touch. The views from the living room were lovely and a really relaxing place to sit, hearing the water from the river and looking at the views. My feedback would be to recommend for there to be a blind on the clear glass front door. When walking around at night it feels unsafe as people could look in & there is no privacy. The coffee pod machine has a milk frother which has a rotten milk stench, I stayed at the property earlier this year with family and it had the same smell then and was unusable. It would have been nice to have been able to use this. We also spoke to Sykes Cottages and requested for both beds to be made up as doubles, along with there to be no feather bedding / pillows due to my allergy. Only one of the beds was made as a double, the other was a twin and there was around 6 feather cushions on the beds. The call was long with Sykes Cottages who didn’t seem to understand the request on the phone which probably caused this, it would be easier if this was managed by a local company in the Lakes as my experience with the call centre for Sykes Cottages wasn’t good. There is space for 1 car - parking is very tight with neighbouring properties and shops having the other spaces making it very difficult to reverse out & we have a small car. Understandable for a property so central, so it was a benefit it has a private space. There is a bus stop within a 1 min walk connecting the village quickly to a Keswick & Ambleside. Recommended walks nearby would be to Easedale Tarn and around Grasmere/Rydal Lake - via the caves then Rydal Hall coffee shop for a break. Recommended places in the village would be Lucia’s for a top quality take out coffee, they use local Red Bank Coffee made in the Lakes & have tasty bakery treats too. Chesters for an evening meal - there is a dog free dining area Mon-Sat, which being allergic was really great to be able to eat out in a good pub & restaurant, the food was great and my husband appreciated the choice of beer available. Recommended shops - The Grasmere Gather is a lovely gift shop, Barneys Newsbox is great & Grasmere Gingerbread (still thinking about the lovely cooking smells inside the shop) A lovely holiday and stay at this property, Thank you

We have stayed all over Grasmere in different self catering places, but this was our 5th time at Riverville, which probably tells you all you need to know.

It’s perfect. A beautiful view from the lounge over the fells, warm, right in the centre of this lovely village, and 2 minutes from amazing cafes. We didn’t move the car all week. We are so grateful to be able to come, and have booked our 6th stay already! Mark and Diana.

An absolutely beautiful stay.

We have twins and sometimes this is difficult to accommodate for in terms of space. Everything was perfect from location, to your beautiful and fully catered for and clean apartment. It felt relaxing, cosy and I felt fully relaxed on moment of arrival. It took me out of city tensions and my family were all at home. The only little niggle was that we had to put a (kind note) on the car parked next to ours as we couldn't get out of car park as they parked so close, we could have done their car a damage, so had to delay our outing by a few hours. We will definately come back

We had a wonderful stay in Riverville.

The accommodation was lovely and as described. We enjoyed the river view and central location. So many great walks right on our doorstep, we hardly used the car.

The accommodation is of a high standard, well equipped with everything we needed.

Situated in the heart of Grasmere it provides an ideal centre for exploring the lakes. And we found it extremely quiet and peaceful. Altogether a very comfortable and enjoyable stay. My only observation for possible improvement would be the provision of Sky TV, as the range of entertainment available is somewhat limited to anyone like us who don't use Netflix.

A lovely week staying at Riverville.

Perfect location in the centre of Grasmere with everything you’d need in shops on the doorstep. Apartment was warm, comfortable and tastefully decorated to a high standard and owners have thought of every piece of equipment you might need. Loved the lounge and sitting in the overhanging window over the river watching the water. Couldn’t take advantage of the balcony seating as it rained most the time! Steps to the front door are quite steep. Would definitely come again.

This is our fifth stay in Riverville.

It’s a super location in the heart of Grasmere. We particularly like the sitting room with its window overlooking the river with great views up to the fells. There is everything you need at Riverville for a truly comfortable home from home stay. Hopefully we will be back next year

This was our second stay in Riverville, and hopefully not our last.

The apartment is very comfortable and very nicely fitted out. Right in the middle of beautiful Grasmere, with its own parking. Plenty of walking to be had, and no need to get in the car to do so. The kitchen is very user friendly and has everything you need to rustle up a meal. Just a tiny thing: the toaster needs replacing, as only two of the four slots work. We highly recommend this classy rental.

This was our 5th stay, and it was wonderful.

The apartment is perfectly situated, and very well equipped. It’s warm, spacious and quiet, despite being in the centre of the village. The views from the window over the river stay with us inbetween our visits. Thank you for providing us with a place where we make special memories. Only one practical request - could there be some more pint glasses?! We’re so sad that we can’t book for November 2025 as the apartment is booked out all month, we’ve had to book another instead. But we’re keen to reserve 2026 as soon as we can.

First class accommodation.

All our needs were well catered for. Thankyou for providing such excellent accommodation. A slight negative,although it was very clean,there were cobwebs in various places which we removed with a feather duster.

We had a wonderful time at Riverville Beautifully appointed accommodation and luxury furnishings Very warm and welcoming and cozy We loved the luxurious bed and bedding and the perfect location in central Grasmere I did struggle with the steps and we were aware of them so it wasn’t a major issue but I had a stroke in January and I found them very steep and shallow especially when carrying luggage The kitchen was very well equipped and we loved the views from all the windows and the river underneath The bathrooms were luxurious and spacious and I particularly loved the bathroom sinks !

Plenty of storage and every little detail thought of including lots of hooks for coats towels etc Thankyou We loved the big larder cupboard with an amazing array of crockery We did chuckle tho as for a cottage for 4 people there was only one beer glass but ten egg cups ??? We did have an issue with an Audi TT parking in the designated space for riverville on occasions Luckily there wasn’t anyone in one of the other cottages so we parked there but it was slightly annoying but in busier times it would be difficult We would happily stay here again and highly recommend to anyone Thankyou for letting us stay here

Very good location well equipped for a very comfortable stay the bay window over the river is mesmerising just sit and watch the river go by close to local shops plenty of places to eat out for such a small village the private parking is a bonus just tight to access and manoeuvre round.

the stairs to access the apartment are narrow when carrying a suitcase .the steps down to kitchen and lounge would benefit from a handrail the second bedroom the TV is too far from the bed maybe a rethink on room layout (extra seating ) College Street is one way access a reminder to drivers to turn left would be good overall Riverville is a great place for a base to discover the Lake District

One of the best equiped properties we have stayed in.

Lovely outlook and so quiet. One thing I would suggest is the provision of a non slip shower mat, I always pack one but this was the first time I have used it. The living room was so comfortable, obviously some thought had gone into it. Wonderful take away venison stew from Greens cafe next door one evening, would highly recommend.

Another superb stay at Riverville, our 4th and we’ve already booked for next year.

The location is excellent and the apartment provides everything you need. The views of the fells and the river are just lovely. My only comment this year is it was quite dusty and the decking and outdoor furniture could do with a really good clean. Already looking forward to our next stay

We loved this property in the centre of Grasmere with its own rare parking space.

It was so spacious and comfortable and will happily come again although justifiably it is very booked up. Grasmere is a very pretty village with lots of bars & restaurants & has easy access to the Langdales, Borrowdale & Ullswater. All the ingredients for a perfect holiday.

Love this apartment.

.. but a few niggles. Not thoroughly cleaned. Sofa seat cushions dirty. Turned over and lots of dust and crumbs. Master bedroom found pair of dirty socks left. Kitchen utensil draws need hoovering out. No potato masher and knives all blunt. Suggest rather than lots of random stuff less is more if quality better. Also very annoyingly pint glasses not available. Lots of cobwebs around the place and dust under radiators. Picture frames all on the wonk. Liked the extra boot trays this time round. We stayed once before.

The apartment was a lovely place to stay with everything we needed for a great holiday .

The view of the river and the hills beyond was fantastic. The only drawback is the parking space. We have an estate car and it was very difficult to get in and out of the small space provided. Grasmere itself is the nicest place in the Lake District. 5 stars for the apartment.

We have stayed in several properties in Grasmere over the years, this was by far the best.

It was comfortable, clean and well maintained. The parking was ideal as it is directly next to the property. We have previously been parked at some distance from properties. Apart from the weather (!!) everything was perfect. Thank you for a great holiday. We will come again.

Wonderfully comfortable apartment in the heart of the beautiful village of Grasmere, right on the small river Rothay that flows through the village.

Cannot fault this place, plus it comes with a parking space, which is such a bonus in this village! We parked our large vehicle right outside without any problems. The only item I would add to the kitchen, which is very well-equipped, is a pair of oven gloves. We will return!

This was our third visit and the flat is the best we’ve found in the area.

So comfortable. The views over the river and the fells means it wins hands down. We did notice some deterioration this year: mirror light not working in large bedroom en-suite, some stained and chipped crockery and the heating broke down. This latter issue was irritating as we were cold, but Lakelovers responded quickly and fixed it within a few hours, so it didn’t spoil the holiday. I don’t want to recommend this to others as it feels like our special place - but I need to get over that!

Home again after our 2nd visit this year and possibly our 6th over a few years to Riverville.

All was comfortable and delightful as always, we feel very much at home there. I enjoy sitting in the window seat watching the ducks swim by down the river Rothay Thank you very much for putting handrails in the showers, it helped my husband to feel more secure. I sincerely hope we will be able to visit again.

Really lovely property and fabulous location.

We appreciated the little things like parking, lots of coat hooks and places to sore muddy boots. I could spend hours sitting in the lounge window box listening to the stream go by. We had a wonderful time and would go back in a heartbeat.

Absolutely loved the apartment, comfortable & had everything you needed perfect location, outside seating area was great when the sun shined.

Our second stay at Riverville and we loved it.

Very well equipped, comfortable and clean. I’ll miss hearing the river, the ducks and the Goosander family that swam up river each day. The flat is in a super location to walk out for a drink or a meal in the evening and we loved being able to put our boots on and do fabulous walks in the day, straight from home. Having its own parking space is great too. There was just one thing that gave a poor first impression, the large plant in a pot on the terrace has died, it’s shedding brown leaves and looks terrible, if we hadn’t known better from previous trips it would have made us expect that the whole place would be shabby and unkempt…….sort it out Lakelovers.

The outdoor dining area could use a sweeping, the potted plant was dead and the windows were a little dirty.

The interior spaces were spotless and very comfortable and roomy. The location was perfect. We were very happy with Riverville. We would definitely stay here again.

We stayed in this property in May 2023 and loved it.

We are hoping to stay here again next year, which is probably the best recommendation. Right in the heart of Grasmere and very comfortable with lots to do right from the doorstep. Only a couple of very minor grumbles. The main one was the welcome pack, tea coffee, sparkling wine all lovely but no soap in either of the bathrooms, no washing up liquid and little things like aluminium foil salt and pepper that are so common in other accommodations. The other one was the visitor information was very sparse, we came unstuck as the bins have to be put out towards the end of our stay and it only says “present your bin for collection” but it doesn’t say where. We did what we did at home and put it on the boundary of the property and it wasn’t collected. In retrospect we think it was meant to be put on the road but still not sure. A bit more detail would be useful. Like i said very minor issues and we want to stay again so overall an excellent property.

We love everything about this apartment. The location is superb, next to the river, in the heart of Grasmere, surrounded by the wonderful fells. Inside the accommodation is well appointed throughout with comfortable beds and a very well equiped kitchen. The living room is a great space to relax, watch the wildlife and admire the views. It would be great to have a couple of comfy chairs and a small table in the bay window. A couple of niggles commented on previously, which have't yet been addressed but otherwise a wonderful place to stay.

Hello, I think we have visited Riverville in Grasmere now 5 times and enjoyed every visit very much and would love to return again.

However my husband is 81 and it would improve our stay if there could be a handrail put on the wall in the walk in shower bathroom. Also a shower caddy to put shower soap/shampoo to prevent having to lean down on the floor to pick it up. This is probably not something that the owner wants to do, but it would make our visit so much more pleasant and safe for my husband. I love sitting on the stools in the lounge, overlooking the river, watching the ducks and the dippers and so much more that Riverville has to offer. It is perfect for our stay and we feel very much at home there.

Best stocked house we ever stayed in, furnished and stocked as if the owners lived here.

Heating superb and easy to adjust, house spotlessly clean, beds soo comfy. The views and location as good as you could wish. If you don’t want to venture out just sit in the window and watch the wildlife and listen to the river and let your stresses will disappear.

Absolutely excellent.

All those niggling things at other self catering locations have been perfectly covered here; lots of space in the cupboards to store food for the week, a fridge freezer big enough for four adults for a week, a really good cooker with a double oven, plenty of crockery and cutlery, heating that is easy to use use and kept the apartment warm while it snowed outside, a sitting room with lots of space for four adults and then of course there is the views of the river and hills and the location in the centre of Grasmere. Perfect.

The perfect bolt hole in the perfect location As Lakeland lovers, we tend to avoid the crowds in Grasmere, but being off season we thought we would risk it.

Riverville did not disappoint, it was clean, well-organised and perfect for four; on two days we even had a Red Squirrel in the trees on the opposite bank! Numerous walk done from the front door, with lots of coffee shops to try once the days walk was over. If you get a chance visit Sam Read bookshop on the corner, very helpful staff, and lots of local guild books. We would recommend the Coffin walk to Rydal, Easedale tarn, Alcock Tarn and Helm Crag. Would I change anything about Riverville; two parking spaces instead of one would be good (worth a fortune in Grasmere) but we noted that seven-day parking is only ~£36.

Every thought has gone into the design and presentation of this property.

Having rented holiday properties all over the UK and Europe we can honestly say this ranks amongst the very best. Nothing is perfect and there are one or two small niggles but just not worth mentioning. Whoever owns this apartment thank you and please may we stay again later in the year. We just loved it

Riverville is a beautiful apartment located in the centre of Grasmere village yet set away from the hustle and bustle.

It has a lovely view of the river from the living room. The property is very well equipped and comfortable. Minor things that need attention from owner - kick boards in the kitchen need fixing - these are loose. Gutters need cleaning. Living room had some cobwebs in corner ceiling.

This was our second time at Riverville and we love the property and location There were a few small issues - not enough to inconvenience us by calling someone out - and a couple of suggestions.

1. The bathroom floor to the main bathroom floor wasn't properly cleaned 2. The lights over the cooker do not work 3. The kickboard in the kitchen catches on the dishwasher whenever its door is opened 4. The lightbulb on the outdoor light next to the back door at the top of the stairs stopped working. It might actually be better for some more lighting, it is pretty dark in the middle of winter with pouring rain! 5. The Nespresso machine milk attachment does not heat the milk, only froths it 6. There were no coffee pods left in the welcome pack - these were advertised in the listing The following things would be good improvements: 7. The clothes airer is very small - not enough to hang up a full wash load and isn't tall enough 8. It would be nice to have some espresso size cups 9. The only microwave safe jug is a discoloured, worn plastic one

I won' t repeat all the great things people have said about this apartment except to say that they are all true.

We have stayed in dozens of self catering places over the years and this is up with the best of them. Been to the Lakes every year at least once for nearly 30 years and I can thoroughly recommend Riverville. Minor issues: kitchen tap drips; main bedroom ensuite mirror light not working; showers need a basket for soaps, shampoos etc (especially the walk in shower). From a personal perpective I would also consider a small table and chairs in the bay window in the lounge (this would mean altering the curtain rail), but it would be great to eat your food whilst looking at that great view.

Riverville is an amazing gem in the centre of Grasmere.

It’s cozy and contemporary. Having all the accommodation on one level (albeit with a couple of internal steps) is brilliant. The bed in the main room is ENORMOUS and very comfortable. The river running by and under the fabulous picture window adds to the atmosphere of the place. We’ve stayed all over in Grasmere over 20 years and this place is the tops without a doubt. We plan to book again having just got home!

A wonderful property and true home from home.

If it was ours, we’d add a DVD player for rainy days & winter nights but otherwise it was perfect!

Riverville is one of the best properties we have stayed in.

Beautifully located, very comfortable and well equipped. We really didn't want to come home! Love the views over the river and the sound of the ducks! Just a couple of observations from us:- 1. In the master bedroom there is a 'hole' in the floor under the carpet as you approach the bathroom door, it's a bit naughty as you could fall if you stand on this 'soft spot'. I would suggest this is addressed sooner rather than later. 2. It would be lovely to have a stool in the kitchen as I enjoyed preparing food looking over the glorious views and also like to perch when prepping! 3. Some cushions for the outdoor furniture would be nice, I appreciate not everyone would look after them but it's such a great spot to sit in, cushions would be a bonus.

Great apartment in grasmere location perfect.

Two kingsize bedrooms with bathrooms great balcony looking on to the water where we ate every morning and evening. Would definitely return

This property is extremely comfortable, in what we feel is the prettiest village in the Lakes.

We have been to Cumbria many times over the years and this has been one of the best properties that we have been to. It's location over the bubbling Rothay is perfect. We certainly hope to come again.

Enjoyed our stay at Riverville.

Accommodation was very spacious and comfortable and in an excellent location. Only issue we had was with the outside stairs. Didn’t realise they were so steep and had difficulty carrying luggage in/out, particularly as it was raining the day we arrived. Also no information on disposal of waste so had to put everything in one bin??

The apartment was perfect however the guest instructions were lacking with no details provided on what to do with rubbish and recycling.

Our 4th visit to Riverville, as peaceful and restful as always.

I hope to be able to visit again.

It’s a lovely place to stay. Excellent facilities, great location, beautiful views of the fells. We would definitely be looking to stay here again

We (two 60+ couples) were very impressed with the apartment … really clean, very comfortable, loved the (easy) heating control … and enjoyed having plenty of hot water for baths and showers after a day walking!

We had everything in the kitchen we could wish for (we cooked each night) … and all round, we loved it!

Superb apartment with lovely views.

Very central to Grasmere. Decorated lovely throughout and the kitchen is really well equipped. Could use a potato masher and a radio/music in the kitchen. But certainly would go back here. Loved every minute.

Cottage was fantastic in a beautiful location, very cosy and tastefully decorated.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay there and would certainly stay there again.

This is the best holiday accommodation we've ever had in Grasmere (and we've been coming for more than 20 years).

Beautiful place to stay. The window over the river is brilliant. The flat is warm and cosy, yet contemporary. Some of the kitchen equipment could do with updating (some sharp knives etc) and, as there is a dishwasher, a second set of knives and forks particularly would be good. We couldn't find instructions for the washing machine. The internet was dodgy in the lounge, but as I am from a very rural location myself, I understand the challenge of this! Overall a brilliant experience and we hope to be back!

The key holder was quite difficult to undo maybe needs a nlittle adjustment

We’d been to Riverville before and loved it, couldn’t wait to get back for return visit.

Property seemed even better second time around even though it was perfect first time. No complaints whatsoever, only comment to make is that wifi wasn’t up to streaming films on Netflix. This is just by way of information and consideration and did not spoil a perfect stay

Not normally one to leave reviews, but I felt this was a rare exception.

This flat is much bigger and nicer than it looked online. It was clean, well appointed, and in the most blissful location. Hearing the river babbling past your window was so peaceful and Grasmere is head and shoulders the nicest village in the Lakes (at least of those we visited). We were genuinely really impressed, and would definitely return.

This is probably the best location we’ve stayed at in the Lakes.

Riverville is an excellent property in a delightful position next to the river. There are so many beautiful walks right on your doorstep. We would definitely stay here again

Riverville is a little gem in Grasmere.

Great location, high standard of accommodation, and the terrace is a lovely place to sit to watch the wildlife on the River Rothay.
