The keys available earlier as we arrived and hour before 4pm.
Parking available on the street near the house. Very clean and everything as stated. Only issue radiator did not work in our bedroom and the temperature dropped overnight. Location perfect with a short walk into town.
Lovely place right in the town centre close to everything.
Spacious bathroom with a handy WC / shower room downstairs. Comfy beds and well equipped kitchen. Nice front lounge, only negative was the TV as we could only get 1 channel! Highly recommended.
My brothers and I stayed for 2 nights.
We were extremely pleased with the accommodation. It was immaculately clean, comfortable and had all of the facilities we needed. As it is a slate cottage it was quiet and no noise could be heard from next door. The fact that it is literally only yards from numerous bars and restaurants is a big plus. Thank you also for the bottle of prosecco we received on arrival, which was a nice touch.
Fell Cottage is well situated for all facilities restaurants bars cinema and walks Absolutely no problems with instructions that were left for us and we found the cottage clean comfortable and well maintained Permit for parking immediately outside the cottage and we got a 3 day pass for the other car .
you can also get a disc from most shops/hotels for 1hour parking on surrounding roads .All in all a very enjoyable experience
Five of us stayed here for the weekend.
Beautiful cottage — very clean, with an extremely large bathroom. We did notice there were no spare toilet rolls, so we bought some. After we returned home, we received a message apologising for this, stating that a pack had been left on the doorstep. The cottage is very close to the centre, so everything is within walking distance. Buses to other towns ran every 20 minutes and were reasonably priced, and we had a lovely day sightseeing. We didn’t use the back yard but had a quick look. It could do with a jet wash, but I can imagine it being a nice area to sit out with a glass of wine in the summer. The cottage comes with a permit to park outside, but the couple who recently bought next door had two cars, one of which was a large 4x4 parked directly outside, which blocked the light a little. We did speak to them when leaving to ask generally about permits (not as a complaint) and were told they don’t get issued permits anymore, only historic ones are renewed. We didn’t bring a car, so it wasn’t an issue for us, but I can imagine that if someone did, and the property advertises a permit to park on the road outside, they would expect to be able to do so. Overall, our experience of the property was a 10/10, and we would highly recommend staying here.
Ideal location, well equipped kitchen and clean bathrooms.
Very very clean throughout. Beds very comfy. We were out most of the day every day but the house was a perfect base for adventures.
Lovely cottage in the perfect location.
Really well presented with a wonderful bathroom perfect for a good soak after a day on the fells.
Loved the property.
There were no visitors permit so my husband got a parking ticket as he thought the one he did have was a visitor.
Excellent property, well presented and a great base for our family of 5 to stay and enjoy the lakes.
Fell cottage was fantastic venue for us as family literally in walking distance so made it easy for us to pop in and out of our mums house.
The cottage was brilliant..love the kitchen and the bathroom !! it had everything we needed. Definitely be back .
Fell cottage was ideal clean tidy and had everything you needed.
We managed to park on the road outside using visitors pass every day. Ideal location and great property would stay again
Excellent option for us in the Lake District, 4 adults.
Good location and appointments. Only negative was slow response to maintenance request.
Fabulous location and gorgeous house.
We loved our stay. Kitchen was well equipped and comfy. House is cosy but to be expected given location and style. It was beautifully kitted out though, had everything we needed, was clean and felt very well maintained. The first floor bathroom was beautiful. Second shower/WC on ground floor is very compact. Great boot room at the back of the kitchen and we appreciated the washer/dryer and dishwasher. Smart TV for streaming was perfect. Could have done with fans in the bedrooms (particularly the top two rooms) as it was very warm (seasonal issue we appreciate!). We loved being right in the middle of everything. We appreciated understanding the limitations with parking before we arrived but, with that in mind, we never had an issue parking in one of the carparks or approved roads around town so the car was never more than 5mins walk away. Never had to wait for a space and even managed to park on the house road for loading at the end of our stay. The only slight niggle was our question to the owners through the Sykes Cottages "ask the owners" system ahead of our arrival was not answered - unsure if this was the owner or the manager but disappointing either way. We were relieved to have no issues as were consequently concerned how to reach out if there had been a problem!
Súper confortable beds.
Just a few little pointers.
Twin room blinds don't fit properly so gap between them , bright sunlight waking me up very early. Toilet seat in downstairs toilet very wobbly. Not enough soft pillows, only one for each single bed. Large bath towels only in one double bedroom, much smaller ones in the other 2 rooms Apart from those minor points, beautiful property to great location and incredible weather!
The accommodation was in an ideal location in the centre of Ambleside.
It was perfect for our family of 4. We were greeted with a bottle of prosecco and biscuits. It was great to have 2 shower rooms, one of which was very large and luxurious with a free-standing tub and walk in shower, all of which were very clean, as was the entire living area. The beds were comfortable with a plethora of pillows and it was nice to have a desk, a suitcase stand, and a room to store shoes and coats. The kitchen was charming and had everything we needed for cooking and sharing a meal at the table (except washing up liquid--but it did have a working dishwasher). The heating worked well to quickly warm every floor and the area was very quiet with some lovely birds tweeting outside our windows. Parking was tricky at first, as the street outside the cottage is tight and there weren't any spots. We parked a few minutes away in the Council Car Park for the first night. But the next morning we found a spot right outside the cottage. Our only request would be more large bath towels. The arrangement of sofas in the living room is also a bit awkward for viewing the TV. But overall, it was a wonderful, relaxing stay and we would highly recommend Fell Cottage.
Hi Paul. Thank you for your wonderful review. We are glad you had a nice stay at the cottage with your family and enjoyed the convenience of the central location in Ambleside and the amenities the cottage has to offer. We do provide washing up liquid in a dispenser so apologies this wasn’t stocked up for your stay. We also welcome suggestions from guests and will look at providing larger bath towels. Once again thank you for your review and we look forward to welcoming you back in future.
Fantastic property right in the centre of Ambleside and only a 2 minute walk to the main street.
We wouldnt hesitate to come back. The cottage was spotlessly clean ,a huge well done to the people that maintain this high standard. The cottage has everything you could need, all kitchen equipment,a utility room, downstairs shower and toilet, three lovely bedrooms and an amazing bath.We didn't manage to get parking outside the house, but used the car park that was a 5 minute walk away, using the free permit which was a huge bonus.
Hi Diane. Thank you for your review. We are glad that you enjoyed your stay in the cottage and found it conveniently located for all the local amenities that Ambleside has to offer. Thank you as well for your comments about the cleanliness. As you mention we have 2 permits for the property. The visitor permit can be used for parking on the street in front of the property but if that isn’t possible then the business permit provides parking in several nearby car parks. Thank you again and we look forward to welcoming you back in future.
The property was a amazing, everything you needed, lovely and clean and very central our only fault would be, two friends had bath sheets and three had bath towels, I believe that all occupants should be provided with bath sheets, but this is very minor, would defiantly return thank you for an amazing break.
Hi Rachel. Thank you for your review. We are glad that you enjoyed your stay in the cottage and found it conveniently located. Thank you as well for your comments about the cleanliness. We always welcome suggestions from guests and will look at providing larger bath towels for all guests. Once again thank you for your review and we look forward to welcoming you back in future.
Beautiful cottage, clean and comfortable.
Has everything you need and is in the heart of Ambleside. Would definitely recommend and will hopefully stay here again soon. Thank you.
We loved our time at Fell Cottage.
Thank you for the welcome goodies. A really comfortable stay with wonderful views from the upstairs windows.
Perfect, lovely home.
Definitely recommend 100%! Will be staying here again
Thank you for your lovely review Sarah. Glad you had a nice stay and look forward to welcoming you back in future.
A lovely comfortable cottage right in the centre of Ambleside.
Well equipped and very clean. Great showers, a lovely bath. Kitchen would be cramped with 6 people in as would the living room but we were only 4 so plenty of space once we moved a chair away from the table.
Fell cottage is beautiful.
It has fresh and clean decor and has everything that you need for a comfortable stay. The cottage is located in the heart of Ambleside and is only a short walk from most places. There are so many things to do and see around this area of the Lake District and there are plenty of places to eat and drink. Right on the door step is Wansfell Pike, a great walk (advanced) with spectacular views across lake Windermere when you reach the top! For a very special dining experience we recommend the old stamp house and their taster menu, great atmosphere with incredible food, so worthy of their Michelin star! We Highly recommend a trip to Ambleside and staying at fell cottage.
Great location, the facilities of the house are brilliant.
Thanks for another brilliant stay
Wonderful property, comfortable, well equiped, great location near the centre of Ambleside but still very quiet.
We would certainly book again!
We enjoyed our stay, the cottage was in a great location and overall it was clean and tidy.
A lovely gesture with the biscuits and Prosecco Downstairs bathroom could have been a bit cleaner Some of the sheets had stains on them The toaster hadn’t been cleaned out
It was a lovely well situated cottage.
Well equipped kitchen, lovely shower and bath. The one thing that was a bit tricky was the positioning of the TV and sofas. Otherwise, perfect. Thanks!
We had a great short stay.
The cottage is in fantastic position - really central and close to all amenities. It was very well presented and clean and tidy on arrival. The only slight negative is the parking as we could not park on the street on the first night as it was full so had to pay for parking for one vehicle.
Thank you for your feedback. We are glad that you enjoyed the property and all the local area has to offer. Lakelovers Owner Team
Everything about the cottage was perfect.
The only challenge we had was booking through VRBO. When we needed to make a change it was a three-step process: VRBO --> Sykes --> Owner and it took multiple international phone calls to resolve a very simple request.
The property was lovely and in a great location but lacked some care an attention.
There were cobwebs on the ceiling and a dirty pan in the drawer on arrival, they was lots of chipped crockery, only one bin liner for a four night stay and no teabags. The second parking permit was appreciated, but clearer information is required. Arriving on a Sunday the office was closed and it was difficult to work out how the business pass could be used from the council website and took a 20 minute phone conversation and a return e-mail to clarify this whilst the car had been parked incorrectly overnight. This could have been easily prevented.
A beautiful characterful cottage in the heart of Ambleside.
Easy walking access to the village. Parking was never an issue.
Had a wonderful Christmas stay at Fell Cottage.
A very cosy and warm cottage and probably one of the best we’ve stayed in over the many years of coming to the Lakes. The utility room was great to dry all the walking kit and leave the boots in. The kitchen was well equipped which enabled us to cook a full Christmas dinner! A beautiful big bathroom and a great bath which was lovely after a long walk. A few cleaning products would have been good just to wipe the surfaces down. Not a big problem as I bought some from Tesco’s. Would definitely recommend and most definitely will return. Thank you so much
Comfortable and clean cottage.
Great location and well equipped-except it would have been useful to have some tea towels and some basic cleaning materials beyond washing up liquid. Otherwise all good.
Hello Helen. Thank you for your feedback. We are glad that you found the cottage clean and comfortable and appreciated the great central location. Regarding the tea towels these should have been provided as a matter of course so apologies that you did not have these. We will also take on board your feedback about additional cleaning materials. Whilst we don't expect guests to clean the property, we agree it would be helpful if there were some kitchen and bathroom cleaner on hand should they be needed.
We stayed here for the second year running as we so enjoyed it last year.
This year we noted how restrictive the lounge was with two large settees that did not give much flexibility to re-jig to make more cosy. We also feel the leather settee is needing replacement /upgrading as there were a few areas of wear in the leather. The pillows in the main bedroom were very basic and not comfortable.
Thank you for your feedback and for returning to Fell Cottage for a second stay. We are sorry to hear that you found the pillows uncomfortable. We regularly check the pillows along with the bedding, replacing them on a frequent basis. We will take on board your feedback and check all of them again, replacing any that need to be replaced. The lounge contains two three seater leather sofas to accommodate up to six guests and are in the most optimal position. In the last month we have noticed that some of the leather has started to show wear and as a result we have recently ordered two new replacement sofas which will be in the property early next year. In the meantime we have ordered two throws to cover the sofas until the new ones arrive. We do hope you come back again in future.
Lovely, stay in a very appointed and clean cottage, right in the heart of Ambleside and two minutes walk from all the various shops (and bakeries for fresh bread in the morning)!
Parking right outside for one car (use the provided permit!) and the property also has a permit to park in the local council car parks (useful for us as we had two cars in our party).
Hi Ian. Thank you for your feedback. We are pleased you had a lovely stay and found the cottage clean and well appointed. We look forward to welcoming you back in future.
We had a lovely stay at Fell Cottage.
Perfect location with fabulous views from the top front bedroom. The bedroom sizes were plenty big enough. Just a few things that were in need of improvement the downstairs toilet seat was not very steady so at times it felt you were going to fall causing my back to be jarred a few times. The flusher on the toilet was also weak could be on its last legs. When it came to cooking in the kitchen there wasnt any baking trays that were appropriate or clean for that matter the cutlery drawer looked like it had spilt herbs on all the spoons the pans werent clean and some had water in the bottom of them when in the drawer. This was quickly fixed with a wash of these items but you would expect clean cooking facilities and utensils on arrival. Despite these gripes we had a lovely stay.
Hi Kathryn. Thank you for your feedback. We are glad to hear that you had a lovely stay at Fell cottage and have commented positively on the location, the views and the good sized bedrooms . We are sorry to hear about the issues you faced with the downstairs toilet and the cooking utensils. We pride ourselves on the facilities at Fell Cottage and the cleanliness so are sorry that on this occasion they have not met our usual high standards which we regularly see reflected in high customer feedback scores. From time to time things do need attention and we strive to rectify these at the earliest opportunity. The toilet and the flush have since been fixed and I am assured by the cleaner that the cutlery and cooking utensils are checked after every booking. Thank you again for your feedback which we always act on to provide the best possible experience for future guests. We also hope that your largely positive experience will encourage you to come back again in future.
Gorgeous home would definitely come back the village is also really nice
Thank you for your lovely review Jasmine. We are glad you had a good time and look forward to welcoming you again in future.
This was a really lovely cottage, modern and well maintained.
The views from the top bedrooms are gorgeous and it's location is fantastic for the town.
Thank you for your lovely review Alex. We are glad you had a good time and look forward to welcoming you again in future.
We thoroughly enjoyed our short break in Fell Cottage.
The location in the centre of Ambleside is ideal and the parking is very convenient. We would like to return in the future.
We had a very comfortable stay and throughly enjoyed our holiday at Fell Cottage.
Just a couple of niggles, mainly the inside handle of the main bathroom. It was very stiff and difficult to close/open and the fitting was loose. Also we couldn’t quite get the main bathroom shower to a comfortable temperature, not sure if it was us or the controls? But overall the cottage was perfect being so central in Ambleside and would have no hesitation in returning, thank you.
A lovely cottage in terms of its comfort and convenience.
Everything that you could want - including a cafetiere and a teapot !! Even a potato peeler. All the little things that make a difference when you are staying away from home. Might be a little cramped with 6 adults. Otherwise hard to find fault. Highly recommended.
Thank you for your feedback. We are glad to hear that you enjoyed your stay at Fell Cottage. We hope to welcome you back again.
Beautiful ,central location good parking .
idilic for us .well equipped with lovely decor and facilities .comfy bed too
Thank you for the positive feedback Fiona. We are pleased that you had a pleasant stay at Fell Cottage.
Great property.
Ideal location and car parking permits were great to have. You mentioned that you had some ordinance survey maps of the area but we couldn’t find them.
Great cottage in the heart of Ambleside.
Well equipped kitchen and enormous main bathroom! We were worried about possible noise from being in the heart of town but were pleasantly surprised at how peaceful things were. We were 4 adults and the cottage was perfectly spacious, could be a squeeze with 6.
Great location in the center of Ambleside.
Smart, clean and comfortable, would definitely re-book.
A lovely cottage, tastefully decorated and in the ideal spot in the village for everything, Nice crisp linen and towels which is always appreciated as was the welcome Prosecco.
One small point, the parking permits were good but we had a lot of difficulty on arrival finding somewhere nearby to unload. There was never a space in the street. An explanation of the situation, use of permits and best car park to use in the arrival instructions would be good. Overall a great property to spend time in Ambleside.
We had a great stay in this cottage.
It was warm and clean and we were welcomed with a bottle of wine and some chocolate biscuits. The beds were really comfy and the bedrooms had lovely views out to the fells. It was a very quiet part of town despite being so central. Parking was easy as we had permits for the street and a nearby car park.
Beautiful place to stay and super central!
!
Really good holiday house
Great location, couldn't be more central in Ambleside.
Nice, well cleaned and maintained house, though a couple of the door handles do need fixing. Everything you need in the house was provided though knives were pretty blunt (maybe needs a a sharpener in the house) and the peeler was broken and nearly useless. Only two downsides are that parking outside the house is a lottery and you only get 1 parking voucher for the street (not surprising with the number of houses and cars). We only manged to park on the road two nights out of the 14 we were there, but there is free parking (the second car parking space) at the local car parks in Ambleside (and others, e.g. Grasmere) which certainly helps but it can make it tricky to unload and load your car on arrival and departure. The other (minor) thing is there were no logs for the fire when we arrived. We would definitely stay here again.
Thank you for your feedback. We are pleased that you enjoyed your stay at Fell Cottage and you felt that everything you needed was provided. We are also delighted to hear that you would stay again. We have taken your feedback on board and a knife sharpener is now provided in the property and all the knives have since been sharpened. We have also replaced the peeler and apologise this was broken. Unfortunately parking on Compston Street isn't always possible which is why we provide the second permit for all South Lakeland District Council car parks, the nearest one on King Street being just a 1 minute walk from the front door.
The cottage itself was lovely and very well decorated and thought out.
Sadly, the service from lakelovers and a few basic things let this down. It is impossible to reach a real human to talk to at lakelovers. I had an issue over parking and ended up having to try to reach you through social media, only to be told it wasn't your problem and that you couldn't help me. The cottage is supposed to be gold standard. With this in mind I would expect some basic things to be in place - sharp knives would be nice, enough dishwasher tablets to last the week, and an appropriate amount of toilet toll for 4 adults for a week (3 is not enough). I'd also expect that garden rubbish isn't left strewn allover the patio furniture making it unusable. As the agent, its your responsibility to take care of these things and you have let down this beautiful cottage by trying to cut corners and not providing a high level of service. We paid a lot of money for this cottage and expect better.
The Cottage was in an ideal situation close to the bus stop, pubs, restaurants and shops etc but in a quiet location.
The only issues that we had was that there was no hair drier in the property and no where to put shampoo, soap etc in the shower.
Everything else was good.
Thank you for your feedback. We are pleased to hear that you enjoyed your stay at Fell Cottage. Apologies we were unable to provide a hair dryer. Due to Covid restrictions some items were temporarily removed from the property, including hair dryers. These have now been reinstated, with one hair dryer provided in each of the three bedrooms. We have also taken on board your feedback about somewhere to put shampoo and soap, recently putting in a small hanging rack in the main shower cubicle.
The cottage was in a brilliant location for us, quiet but dead central to Ambleside.
The kitchen and bathrooms were a good spec and the log burner was an added bonus. Would book again without hesitation.
Great location with restaurants and walks from the cottage without using the car everyday.
Parking difficult as very busy in the whole area so why the location was ideal.
There was no parking spaces in Compston Street at any time during the week we stayed.
I had to park in the adjoining Church Street with the disk supplied by the owners. This led to a parking fine of £50, you should make future guests aware of the difficulty of parking and that parking outside Compston Street will incur a fine.
Thank you for your feedback regarding your recent stay. Fell Cottage provides both a residential permit for Compston Street and a South Lake District Council permit which is for the local car parks in Ambleside. The nearest being King Street or Rydal Car Park. The permits in the property clearly state where these permits are to be used too so we are sorry to hear you were hit with a fine. These are based on a first come first served basis. The discs in the property are provided for disc zone areas and usually only cover you for 1 hour periods. We otherwise hope you had a lovely week.
Couldn’t find a dustpan and brush!
Beds are quite hard. Otherwise we really enjoyed our stay.
Thank you for your feedback. We hope you had a wonderful stay at Fell Cottage. Unfortunately from time to time things are damaged or taken and we had not noticed the dustpan and brush had on this occasion. This has been replaced for future reference.
