  • "Basic but clean and as coy as a caravan can be."

    A little remote served by tiny roads , nevertheless we enjoyed our stay using the caravan as a base to discover the area.

  • "The caravan was very comfortable and the site was in a quiet location."

    Due to the closure of the lane from Arkholme, we needed to take a long diversion to get off the site down very narrow lanes to get to a shop for provisions. We found a store called Booths in Kirby Lonsdale which we reccommend. However. Due to the very slow broadband speed and the fact there were thunderstorms over the weekend of our stay, tv reception was poor and intermittent. We appreciate Freesat may be the only way to get any sort of tv signal at this site, but as we were unable to find the tv and Freesat user instructions, it took us 2 days to fathom out how to get Freesat to work. Maybe leave the user instructions in the welcombe folder for the guests to access if needed.

  • "Lovely comfortable and clean caravan, everything there that you need, bed extremely comfortable."

    Lovely welcome pack thankyou, wasn't expected. Park only small but Lovely and peaceful, the addition of watching the chickens and ducks and baby rabbits just walking around freely was lovely. The only thing missing was a little tea shop or something on site, other than that was perfect for a quiet chilled break, would definitely return.

  • "We had a lovely stay at barney's retreat."

    The caravan had all the essentials required, and the welcome pack was very much appreciated. As we had dogs with us, they were catered for too, which was a nice added touch. The site itself is lovely and quiet. My only criticism would be that round the pond it was a bit overgrown and there was no dog.Poo facilities but otherwise, you could not fault the place. I would highly recommend barney's retreat.If you're looking for a quiet few days away from the hustle and bustle of the world.

  • "This was a lovely caravan,in a rural location ,very well equipped with everything you need and very comfortable."

    However, there is no-one on site to help with any problems or give help or information about the locality and it's about 5 miles to a shop or pub that was open. We used the postcode in the satnav and it sent us miles out of our way so use the owners directions to find the site.

  • "Barney's retreat is a lovely caravan and very clean , the linen smells divine."

    We had a lovely welcome pack with a bottle of Cava , crisps and a box of delicious biscuits plus a pint of milk in the fridge. There is cooking oil and salt and pepper grinders . The fridge is a full size fridge freezer and was very clean and there is a good vacuum cleaner which is one of my must haves but there isn't a mop . The bin in the kitchen is a waste paper basket with bin bags in a cupboard which isn't ideal , there definitely needs to be a proper kitchen bin . I obviously knew that the lounge seating was fixed as shown on the caravan photos but I won't book anywhere with fixed seating again as we found it quite uncomfortable . The main bedroom is massive but the twin room is a lot smaller than it looks on the photos and the beds need some good thick mattress toppers. The bathroom is small but the shower is very good. The park itself is lovely and peaceful with chickens , ducks and rabbits running about . There is a train line that runs directly alongside the park and is quite busy but it didn't affect our stay at all. We found the location of the park ideal for visiting places nearby such as Morecambe, Heysham , Hestbank and Kirbymoorside and we went to Kendal , Keswick Windermere and Ambleside . We went to Wray Castle National Trust twice so that my daughter could do some swimming its lovely there and well worth a visit. We have had a lovely 5 night stay at Barney's Retreat despite the issue with the seating

  • "Lovely place love the wildlife around ."

    Fab shower . Could do with a slip mat but slippy in there . Sorted out internet problem out straight away someone had been messing with wires .!!! Great cooker too for nights in to cook missing a cheeses grater unless me not seeing it was lovely apart from weather . But no harm still went out and about .

  • "The owner was very helpful, the welcome package was also brilliant and helped us to visit some attractions such as Windermere etc."

    it’s a lovely quiet and cosy place with a lot of narrow roads which we actually enjoyed however our only issue was water. We woke up one morning and no water was coming out of any of the taps, we contacted the owner she was very helpful and came early on the next day to figure it out, it only turned out to be the pipes were frozen due to the cold weather outside. We was stuck without water from the morning till about 6-7pm. I couldn’t have asked for anything more she tried fixing the problem as quickly as possible and the rest of the nights we was perfectly fine. Lovely little place and defiantly will be going back just in the summer time

  • "Had a lovely 3 night Christmas stay."

    Booked last minute and was beautiful. Little Christmas decorations to mark the occasion. Easy to find on site. Easy to access key. Clean, tidy, warm and cosy. It had everything we needed from cutlery to pots and pans, even foil. Towels and Linen provided which was most helpful even little bowls for the dogs. Just a lovely place to spend Christmas, we are already looking when to book again. P.S The shower is fabulous!!!

  • "Myself, my husband, 3 kids and pooch had an amazing weeks stay at Barney's Retreat."

    The park was lovely and quiet with a small play area for the children and a lake to have a walk around, all people we did see were pleasant and friendly. The accommodation was clean, comfortable and had everything we needed for our weeks stay! The location is ideal for exploring the area... we visited the lakes, went to the morecambe seaside and ate in some lovely local pubs, had delicious ice cream in kirkby lonsdale and generally loved exploring the area every day. The accommodation was pet friendly and we were welcomed by a lovely welcome pack too which was a very nice touch. Thankyou for a great staycation :) We will definitely be returning. 100% recommend!

Located just off the M6 and 20 miles south of the scenic Lake District, Carnforth is the sort of place that everyone has heard of, and many desire to discover this hidden gem.
