Fantastic little 1 bedroom cottage.
Perfect for 2 people. Shower can turn extremely hot mid shower but apart from that perfect stay.
We stayed for a week in Barn end, it was a good location for us, it had everything we needed.
It was cosy and warm the bed was so comfortable. We visited Outgate Inn for a meal and a few drinks lovely pub with lovely people. The only criticisms was the towel rail didn’t work so drying the towels after use took a while, the shower wasn’t that powerful and the tv signal wasn’t great it kept buffering. It didn’t spoil our stay to though.
The cottage was the ideal size for 2 people but is in need of some cleaning and TLC with cobwebs and marks on the wall.
The towel rail in the bathroom did not work although the lights on the control flashed all week. It made it hard to dry towels and the bathroom was cold. We tried to contact the non emergency number on Saturday but it just went to voice mail. We contacted them on Monday and they agreed to send someone on Tuesday to fix it but although someone had been in while we were out (footprints in the bathroom) it still didn’t work and we got no feedback. Eating in was also not a pleasure. Although there is lots of crockery a lot of it is chipped. There were 8 glasses of varying sizes from pint glasses through to 1 shot glass. None of these glasses matched. There was a very old and stained frying pan which we had to use as the hob would not work with the brand new one. The pan was unsuitable for the induction hob. The terrestrial tv did not pick up well and the only smart channel we could use was BBC i-player as others only worked a couple of minutes before saying there was no Wifi connection. Other reviews have mentioned that there were some biscuits and tea and coffee there on arrival. There was nothing like that when we arrived. A starter pack of logs would have been useful as the manual said the nearest place to buy them was 5 miles away. The manual was uncertain about parking. It said not to park outside during the day as access may be needed. When we spoke to someone at Sykes we were told we could just use the garage below the property. Fortunately we didn’t as we later found that this belonged to the next door cottage, In short a potentially nice cottage with lots of hi-tec equipment was spoilt by lack of upkeep and equipment not working.
