We have now stayed at Edgemere Hideaway twice, a year apart, and were delighted to find that its exceptionally high standards have not slipped one bit.

The house is beautifully appointed and immaculately clean, with two en-suite double bedrooms and an open-plan ground floor—ideal for a small family or two couples. Your pooch is welcome too, although we can’t promise they’ll want to leave! The quiet, peaceful location makes it a perfect base for exploring Cartmel, the surrounding countryside and the wider Lake District. It is genuinely dog-friendly, with plenty of lovely walks and places to explore right from the doorstep—enough to keep both two-legged and four-legged guests happily occupied. Our latest visit coincided with Storm Boelo, but thankfully the property took it all in its stride. When we learned that our own home had suffered a power cut, we asked if we could stay an extra night until the electricity was restored. Our contact, Rebecca, was proactive and attentive, arranging the extension with Sykes Holidays at very short notice. We were so grateful for her help and kindness—and rather relieved not to be heading home for an unplanned candlelit evening! We cannot recommend Edgemere Hideaway highly enough and would happily book again. If you are considering one of the three available units, don’t hesitate—you won’t be disappointed. The only tricky part is packing up to leave!

Edgemere Hideaway is a brilliant modern property with great facilities.

Very clean and well presented. It's a bit away from civilisation and you need to be a very calm driver to reach it but once you do it's very impressive. HIGHLY recommended.

Lovely property.

But could be so much better. The drive up to the property for the last two hundred yards is horrendous! The potholes have you literally down to three mph! First impressions when you arrive are like’wow what a lovely place’. And it is. Ample parking. Location is good. You are within walking distance of the village and racecourse. (If you’re fit enough). And within driving distance of most of the tourist attractions. The public footpath around the back of the property is a bit precarious. As I said, the initial view of the property is good. It’s not until you look closely, you realise how dirty it is. It really does need a complete clean down. When you remove the cushions from the couch they are full of dog hair. There are crumbs and bits of food between the cushions of the other couch. The bedrooms are big and the on suites look quite new. The showers are good with plenty of hot water. The extractor fans in the bathroom are absolutely clogged with fluff. And they seem to stay on for an age after you’ve finished in the bathroom. When you leave, you are asked to strip the beds. I’ve never stayed in a property where I’ve been asked to do this! After you’ve stripped the beds, you realise how stained the pillows, mattress covers and mattresses are. Not nice! All in all a nice modern property, but could be better. If I owned this place and I was employing a cleaning company to look after it, I’d be doing spot checks and having a word with them.
