This is a lovely cottage.

It has been tastefully furnished and decorated. The mezzanine bedroom is lovely and the bed very comfortable. There are some lovely features :- open brickwork walls ; beams ; wooden floor and a delightful decorated round window upstairs. However the ground floor bedroom lacks privacy and looks straight out onto a stable yard. Also early morning noise from the horse(s) meant disturbed sleep. The road at the front of the cottage is busy. The cottage adjoins a rather large run down and ugly building which doesn't give a very good impression. We booked the cottage knowing it was on a working farm but the cottages proximity to the hustle and bustle of daily farming life didn't result in a relaxing or peaceful stay.

Barn Owl Cottage is, on the whole, a comfortable and cosy base for exploring West Lancashire.

Some general maintenance would be required to justify the 5 tick rating currently held on Sykes website. We also had an issue that was reported to the owner mid-stay, and received no response. The property is within easy reach of interesting coastal towns such as Southport and Lytham St Annes. Liverpool is a short train ride from Ormskirk station, and the WWT Martin Mere reserve is a great place to visit for birdwatching.
