What guests are saying
A lovely immaculately cleaned cottage and generally well set up for dogs.
Loved the character of this cottage. Plenty of space for the 3 of us. Owners who live next door with their dogs were friendly but not intrusive. King size bed great for my heavy frame. Decent shower flow. Although we didn't use most of the kitchen appliances they all looked clean and modern. Entry boot room was useful. No garden area but has a small artificially grassed courtyard. Just off the A595. I say this to Sykes and every accommodation provider out there: Please state BEFORE PEOPLE HAVE TO BOOK TO GET TO SPEAK TO A HUMAN AFTER GOING THROUGH AI/BOT FAFF ABOUT AN ACCOMODATION. If you are dog friendly please let prospective bookers know where their dogs can sleep/be left if you decide you want to go somewhere without your dogs! NOT ALL bookers want to have their pets with them 24/7 on a holiday!
We stayed here with the family to climb/walk up Scafell Pike.
The property was sparkling clean and the hosts had thought of everything - fresh eggs, milk, tea/coffee etc. - they even left new dog toys in the welcome basket! The enclosed garden area was great to sit out and have a drink and was a nice little sun trap. We had one of the grandkids with us so the retracting stair gate was ideal. (You don’t even notice it when not in use.) Seascale was a short drive away and the beach there was stunning which I wasn’t expecting as I hadn’t done enough research out with climbing SP! Would definitely stay again if back in this part of the Lake District.
Just had a really lovely time staying for 5 nights at Benstead Cottage.
The host are very welcoming and have decorated the cottage with style and character. The kitchen we found extremely well stocked with everything we required for our stay and would suit all cooking you would wish to, or need to do, whist staying away from home. The lounge was comfortable and well laid out which is carried forward into the bedrooms. The bath room has a walk in rain shower which was much needed after days out walking, climbing Scafell Pike and fish and chips on the beach. The cottage has some lovely touches, from the welcome pack to the portable dog shower and throws for the dog. Merlin certainly enjoyed his time here and would always look out for the owners dogs. If we are going back to the area, or even just passing, Benstead Cottage would be number one on our list to check for availability.
