Westfield Cottage

We had a wonderful stay at Westfield Cottage.

Doreen was very friendly, helpful and welcoming. The cottage was spotlessly clean and comfortable, with everything we needed and more. The cottage was in a very peaceful setting with beautiful walks were just on our doorstep.

This was a great place to stay.

We were greeted by the owner and a field full of daffodils! The kitchen was a lovely light sunny room, where we could watch the lambs across the road. Shame there was only a double bed, we used the 2 singles though one wasn't made up, maybe we should have requested that on booking. We don't find a double bed big enough for a good nights sleep. So usually scroll past any house that just has a double. It was a good place to walk from and lots of waterfalls, reservoirs and even Barnard castle within a short drive.

A delightful home, fresh eggs and cookies left for us and they were delicious.

Doreen, our hostess, is a wonderful lady. Westfield Cottage is immaculate, quiet, warm and cosy, (and a little quirky in a lovely way!). So many picturesque and peacful walks. Highly recommend.

Lovely well kept property.

Owner friendly and made us feel welcome.

Great week at Westfield, made to feel very welcome by our host who met us soon after our arrival to check if we had any questions and to give an overview of the area.

The cottage itself was comfortable and had everything we needed for our stay and wouldn't hesitate to stop there again in the future. Our dog really liked the walks along the Tees Valley railway line footpath every morning and the enclosed garden meant that we never had any issues letting him wander in and out of the cottage! This is a fantastic area to explore and Westfield is an ideal base to do this from.

A lovely cottage that is very quiet and absolutely spotless.

Mrs Scott the host is the most lovely person and made us feel very welcome. The cottage is a great location ideal for some serious cycling or walking in the North Pennines. It is well connected to Middleton in Teesdale and Barnard castle through mostly off road walking and cycling routes. Mickelton is about s 15 min walk and MIT about 25 mins where there are local pubs and services. Ideal for day trips to Durham and Darlington.

Lovely location and a lovely farm cottage.

Super host Doreen made us feel very welcome. Very clean and very comfortable with everything you need for a great holiday. Great walks from the doorstep and all locals very friendly and welcoming. Looking forward to visiting again in the near future.

Just got back from my weeks holiday at Westfield cottage and really cannot praise it enough.

Such a beautiful cottage filled with amazing character . On top of this you are surrounded by the most beautiful walks and surroundings, any direction you walk in you will come across a quaint little village with a friendly pub to visit . I also particularly enjoyed the fly fishing in the river lune which is on site, it is mystical walk down to the stream enjoying the wildlife before losing yourself fishing in a beautiful little river . This holiday cottage had everything to help you relax and enjoy the surroundings. Thank you

the best cottage we have ever stayed in fantastic and clean every thing yuo need ,brilliant host

We enjoyed our stay in Westfield cottage.

Problem with WiFi which was sorted out quickly. The cottage was lovely and warm which was good as weather was a bit chilly. I would recommend this cottage to anyone and hope to be back in near future

We had a lovely time staying at Westfield Cottage.

The cottage was well equipped and absolutely spotless, very quiet location but still in great proximity to nearby amenities.

Owner there to welcome & on hand during stay.

Cottage as described, cosy & comfortable to return to. Situated ideally for lots of walks. Safe & secure for dog

We had a very comfortable week at Westfield Cottage.

There was everything we needed for a home-from-home, with a kind gift of cookies on our arrival. My only negative comment has to do with the creaky stairs, but I don't suppose anything can be done about that. Overall, a very nice holiday let.

A lovely clean cosy cottage in a beautiful area, perfect for lots of walks from the doorstep.

Very comfortable with a friendly . helpful hostess, who was happy to help but not intrusive. Would certainly stay there again.

Had a lovely time at Westfield cottage, the cottage was very clean and comfortable,Mrs Scott was very welcoming and the eggs and biscuits she left were very well received.

Mrs Scott was very welcoming, cottage was lovely, clean, had everything needed for a lovely stay.

Although around on farm she and family were never intrusive. Great walks from the door along teesdale rail track into Mickleton, Romaldkirk and Middleton-in-Teesdale, with pubs for meals and great shopping facilities in Middleton-in-Teesdale.

We have had a lovely holiday at Westfield Cottage, it's very clean and comfortable and is in a beautiful quiet location.

The kitchen is very well equipped and had everything we needed for our stay. There are plenty walks from the door and a handy railway path to Middleton for the local shop and a very good butchers. Thank you Doreen for the goodies, and for being so helpful and friendly, we hope to return one day and explore more of all that the area has to offer.

We thoroughly enjoyed our week at Westfield Cottage and would recommend this cottage as the local area is truly stunning.

We loved this cottage.

Immaculate, cozy, comfortable and peaceful. The eggs and biscuits were very welcome.

Friendly welcome from the owner and comfortable cottage with easy access to walks and other places of interest.

We stayed here over Christmas lovely little cosy cottage.

We had a really nice time with our family Thank you for the Chocolates and the bottle was a really nice gesture highly recommended

Fabulous location and a warm welcome from the lovely host, Doreen.

The cottage is in a quiet and secluded location with marvellous dark skies. The field opposite was running with hares! Westfield Cottage was spick and span and well equipped for a comfortable stay and was good value. We would be more than happy to return. If there are any negatives, the decor is rather dated and tired and doesn’t do the accommodation justice. Also worth noting if you want to work during your break that the broadband is not unlimited.

A cosy comfy cottage in a lovely area.

Walking from the doorstep and close to Middleton for shops , pubs and cafes.

They stay is cozy with lovely beds and a nice kitchen.

Overall, It was a nice stay but we couldn't find the very basic things that hosts typically provide us with - such as: tea/coffee, sugar, salt etc. We had to leave for a grocery store as soon as we arrived after long journey to drink some tea/coffee.

Lovely warm cottage, very comfortable with everything you need.

Comfy beds and sofas. Very quiet, beautiful location, great walk across the viaduct, shops and cafes nearby. Fantastic walks at High and Low Force Waterfalls, Bowlees Visitor centre and Cow Green Reservoir which are only a short car drive away.

The cottage is absolutely lovely.

A very much home from home comforts as well as relaxing and so peaceful. Thank you to Mrs Scott who had some lovely little touches the eggs on arrival and biscuits was much appreciated after a long journey as well as the use of the tumble dryer which was needed with the week of wet weather.

A lovely place to stay in a beautiful area.

I have been here several times and it is truly a home from home. The owner is friendly, welcoming and accommodated requests that made my stay even more pleasant. Thank you.

Could do with better facilities to sit outside

Thanks for a great holiday.

Great cottage, very nice owner all in a beautiful part of the country.

Very well equipped, well heated, lots of hot water, lovely quiet setting but not remote, slightly old fashioned perhaps, but well recommended in a beautiful part of the world.

Wonderful peaceful location, comfortable accommodation with everything you need for self catering.

So much to see and do locally, lovely walks from the door. We will be back.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Westfield cottage.

The cottage had spacious bedrooms with a fully equipped kitchen and cosy lounge. The location was superb - overlooking fields at the front and views of the hills from the back of the cottage. Probably one of Sykes' finest cottages - certainly the most comfortable we have stayed in.

My third stay in this well equipped and beautifully located cottage.

Mrs Scott is a welcoming and friendly host and shares her wealth of knowledge of the local area to ensure you make the most of your stay. I look forward to returning.

Good fairly priced cottage.

Excellent property, with the most comfortable bed for a great nights sleep.

Very welcoming owner. Lovely location to enjoy watching the wildlife from the windows and as a base for exploring Teesdale.

Wonderful property very rural .

Close to lakes ,Durham, North Yorkshire and East Coast. Fabulous cottage very comfortable , well equipped . I can't fault it . We will definitely be back.

5* all round Lovely property Beautiful area Very helpful and friendly host

A lovely cottage, we had a great stay.

Great location with walks straight from the cottage. Well equipped kitchen and plenty of space for us all to eat together round the table. I hadn't realised that the outdoor space/courtyard was shared with the neighbouring cottage - I hope they weren't too irritated by my son's constant football playing. We would definitely recommend this cottage for a relaxing holiday

We loved the cottage, and the owner was helpful if needed,I loved the big bath, comfy beds and comfy settee and chairs, but best of all was the birds who came to the feeders we bought mixed seeds and nuts, the nutchatch was a delight ,the fresh eggs left for us was very kind ,the railway walk right on the doorstep was fabulous for Millie dog .

I would recommend Westfield cottage to any walkers, bird watchers,or just wanting to chill out, perfect.

We've stayed here 3 times now and will hopefully be back in the future.

It's a lovely place to stay peaceful clean and comfortable and in a good place for visiting local attractions would recommend it to anybody

Kept sliding off the leather sofa and chairs but otherwise all brilliant.

A cosy yet spacious, comfortable cottage in very quiet, traffic free surroundings.

We used it as a base for sightseeing, but there are also lovely walks from the doorstep. The farm fresh eggs left for us were a lovely touch.

Set in farmland with very dark skies this cottage provides a peaceful and tranquil place to wind down from busy lives.

It is about 30 minutes walk from Middleton by way of a disused railway line and foot paths through fields. The surrounding countryside is unspoiled and is good for walking.

This cottage is lovely; it's a little dark when you first walk in, but very cosy when you get the lights on & settled in, & has everything you need for 6 people.

The table in the kitchen where we could all sit together to eat is perfect & the living room fit us all in well, although another chair would be welcomed. The bedrooms are great too & everyone was comfortable in our party, which consisted of 4 adults, 2 teens & a dog. The location provides a fantastic base for exploring the Dales & the Penines, & there are 3 waterfalls within easy reach, which are all beautiful & a must to go & visit. There are so many walking routes on the doorstep too & ramblers would be in heaven! We have all said we would definitely stay again.

We, a family of four from Holland, stayed at Westfield cottage for a week.

We had a marvelous time! Right in front of your doorstep you could taken beautiful walks through meadows and fields over the typically stone walls. The house was very well equipped and had great views. Mrs Scot was friendly and could give all kind of tips about what to do and where to go. Now that we are back in Holland I very much miss Westfield cottage.

Clean and well equipped cottage for a very comfortable self catering holiday.

The grounds behind the cottage with access to the nearby river were an added benefit.

Very enjoyable stay in a beautiful, peaceful location.

Westfield Cottage is a characterful, interesting building in the country but near enough to local villages. Doreen was very welcoming and on hand if required while not encroaching on your privacy. Our grandchildren especially loved their quirky bedroom! Only minor negatives were the fridge being rather small for a large group and the shower pressure was not great. Despite this we would have no hesitation in returning here in the future.

Loved the cottage.

It's in a superb area. There was everything you needed for a comfortable stay. A second tv might be welcomed. The views are stunning and even though it is very peaceful you are not far from lots of places to visit and things to do. There are lots of fabulous walks straight from the door. Thank you so much Doreen it was just what the doctor ordered.

The cottage was just as we'd hoped for, homely and clean and peaceful which allowed us to have a lovely holiday.

There was everything we needed to meet our self catering requirements and the gift of fresh eggs was appreciated. Our only tiny niggles were the wifi was a bit slow and the shower head was floppy as the clamp was broken, that said I managed to keep it in place using an elastic band so no big deal, however I did forget to mention it to Mrs Scott before our departure.. We would definitely recommend her lovely cottage to anyone else and would have no hesitation in booking it again.

Lovely cottage in a beautiful area.

Mrs Scott our host was lovely. Very helpful. Stayed for a family get together and would recommend to anyone wanting a home away from home.

Mrs Scott made me feel very welcome (and also my brother who joined me for one night).

The cottage is in a beautiful place and has everything you need to have a peaceful and relaxing stay.

It is a lovely and warm cottage.

The owner was so welcoming. Everything was perfect except internet. There is internet but connection is so poor, I think it is just because the device is not inside the house. I had 3 children with me and they needed internet after a long day out. Other then this the cottage was so good and clean.

We had a great stay at the cottage over Xmas 2021,it is extremely well equipped a real home from home a lovely place to have a break with nice walks right on the doorstep, will definitely be returning.

Spotlessly clean, charming cottage set in an area of outstanding natural beauty.

Everything you need for a relaxing, peaceful holiday. Mrs Scott an excellent host, there if needed but never invasive. Thank you.

Very quiet and peaceful cottage, picturesque area with lovely walks and villages, would recommend highly

Beautiful cottage with lovely surroundings so peaceful.

Home from home

fantastic cottage, well equipped.

friendly host, beautiful location, made our family holiday complete.

This is a fabulous cottage in a wonderful location.

We couldn't have asked for anything more. All the facilities you would want from a cottage were there and Doreen who owns the cottage is lovely - very helpful yet unobtrusive. Really outstanding.

The cottage is in a beautiful peaceful setting surrounded by countryside perfect for a relaxing holiday

We are all absolutely delighted staying in Westfield cottage.

Doreen was very helpful and very accommodating. She leave us some fresh eggs too. We do recommend this cottage. Very clean and comfortable to stay on this cottage. High force, law force and bowlees waterfall is just near and we do enjoyed the walking path within our reach. We definitely coming back.

Great cottage in a lovely rural location and well equipped for a week's stay.

The owner lives on the farm and is very helpful and friendly. Plenty of hiking is possible from the cottage or a short drive away. We would happily stay again.

The peace and quiet was superb and it was lovely to meet Doreen the owner.

Watching the new lambs doing the races up and down the field was beautiful to watch after the last years lockdown. Everyone we met was so friendly and as pleased as we were just to be out in the fresh air. Thankyou Doreen and thank you Sykes. George & Elizabeth Gradon

Amazing host and welcome helped to make this the perfect holiday in a very cosy and well equipped converted barn.

Location is just idyllic with many different walks from the door including the private river walk and the Tees Railway path. There were the farm animals to watch and learn about, unusual wildlife, beautiful unspoilt places to visit and the people were so welcoming. For walkers, nature lovers and those who want to get away from tourist honey pots this is a perfect holiday cottage.

We had an amazing stay, the cottage was perfect and exceeded all our expectations x

A very nice cottage in a lovely setting, the owner was very nice.

The facilities were good though be warned you need to bring your own towels. Plenty of good walks around for those who like walking and a very nice restaurant in one of the local villages. The only disappointment was the lack of local information supplied in the the form of leaflets, maps or booklets which we normally find in cottages we have stayed in before.

Lovely little cottage in an idyllic relaxing area.

We really enjoyed our stay.

Lovely holiday in a lovely , clean cottage on a beautiful farm.

. The owner was very friendly and helpful and we enjoyed lots of beautiful walks from the cottage.

People place and surrounding area were all fantastic will definitely go back!

the owner was very friendly who made sure that we had everything we needed without imposing herself on us the cottage was very clean and comfortable for our stay A very enjoyable week

A lovely warm house in a good location near high force.

Plenty of space for a family.

We found Westfield Cottage the ideal place to stay it is set in a quiet location and not far from local amenities and the ideal place for exploring the stunning scenery

No everything perfect
