Yew Fold

My 2nd visit to Yew Fold, I was again very happy with my stay in this lovely cottage.

A short walk to the train station is just perfect for visiting surrounding areas. The cottage is very clean and modern with everything required for a perfect stay of self catering. The bed is very comfortable with ample storage and fabulous refreshing shower. Good parking facilities right outside cottage with nice outside space for observing the fantastic countryside with a drink. Hosts Caroline and Paul were both very welcoming, offering help if needed but unobtrusive. I would definitely recommend this cottage and I'm sure I will be visiting again soon.

Living area was small.

Kitchen didn't 'work'- not enough worktop, microwave in a cupboard underneath- very awkward to use. Apart from TV, no instructions about equipment, or how to empty rubbish. No washing- up bowl. As no washing machine, meant everything had to be washed in the sink. Concerns about hygiene- cleaning products were not anti- bacterial. Bedding and towels were not changed over 11 night stay.

A friendly welcome from a lovely couple.

The cottage was very clean and has lovely views over the hills.2 minute walk up into the village and you look down onto the estuary and a bit further on is the railway station with scenic railway journeys round the coast.

Excellent place to stay.

...quiet,safe, rural spot away from the tourist hustle but near enough to access the whole Lakes area. Friendly,discreet hosts, car parked right outside door, spacious rooms for two,good WiFi, very comfortable.....and lovely views .

Cottage was wonderful.

It is clean, with a modern decor. Bed is extremely comfy. In perfect position for day trips.

This is a perfect property for two.

It is well stocked, very comfortable, compact, cosy and immaculately clean. Great shower too. The location is so peaceful and quiet (unlike much of the Lake District these days). The Duddon estuary is spectacular and the nearby Dunnerdale valley is a stunningly beautiful place in which to explore. There's even a railway station right in the village. A perfect base for many of Wainwright's Outlying Fells. Caroline the owner (just next door) is lovely and friendly. We've been back six times now; it's no coincidence.

Yew Fold Cottage was well equipped and everything we needed for a two person short stay in the Western Lake District.

The owners were on hand if we needed them and we received a friendly welcome on arrival. However, we were given our own space to relax and unwind.

A really lovely property.

It was a great base for our first visit to the Lake District. The views were beautiful and the apartment was spotless, with all the facilities we needed. The bed and pillows were super comfy and the hosts were great with communication. An absolute gem, we loved staying here and would definitely recommend.

Property was easy to find and plenty of space for the car.

Apartment was nicely warm on entry heated by underfloor electric cables. All fixtures and fittings were of good quality and everywhere was very clean. Excellent bathroom with large shower enclosure. Limited storage in the bedroom but an enormous cupboard space just outside with lots of hanging and drawer space. bed very comfortable Kitchen very well equipped although the microwave in a low cupboard might prove difficult to use for some people. Plenty of pots, pans and utensils although a vegetable peeler would be a useful addition. We had a problem with the tv but a quick text to our hosts brought a very quick response to put things right (new batteries in the remote). The weather was not suitable for us to use the limited outdoor space which featured a barbecue. Pleasant rural views from the front of the property. A welcome gift was much appreciated. One of the best properties we have rented in fact it was good enough for us to take up permanent residence (if only).

we have stayed here before and again will be back again. Caroline and Paul are ready welcoming.

A home away from home.

Location – 40 minutes’ drive from the main attractions of the Lake District. The cottage was very clean, and the kitchen had everything needed for self-catering. Comfortable bed, spacious bathroom, huge wardrobe. Private parking. There is a small outdoor area with a barbecue. Beautiful green hills all around. Highly recommended!

Owners, Caroline & Paul , were like best friends and we’re just lovely from the word go .

Accommodation was just what we were looking for. Area was stunning just a shame the village didn’t have a’corner shop’. Thoroughly recommend. Richard &Wendy

Yew Fold is a great place to stay clean and comfortable and modern while not being to far away from all the usual tourist sites.

For walkers it is a great place around the pubic right of ways or over the moors. Yew Fold has a small private garden which i used most days having been out. There is a railway at the bottom of the village which is great to go to Carlisle and good coast views, 13 minute walk , Caroline and Paul are great hosts and for me that part of Cumbria was a really nice change

Our fifth visit to this property and it never disappoints!

Clean, comfortable, well maintained, lovely garden.... perfect for a week in a beautiful countryside location. We did 4 more of Wainwright's Outlying Fells as well as visiting Coniston Lake for a boat ride. The train station is walking distance from the property which we used for a car free day out. Already looking forward to our sixth visit!

The property was clean and comfortable and had everything we needed such as towels, cups, bowls, cutlery, fridge etc. The owners were friendly and welcoming. The location was perfect and the property was surrounded by fields. Would highly recommend.

Really nice stay at Yew Fold.

All modern kitchen/bathroom facilities. Big TV with freeview & normal streaming. The apartment is attached to the family home but not if you know what I mean. Caroline was friendly but unobtrusive. A welcoming 4 pack of beer was a nice touch. Lovely to see the sheep out of the window every morning. The toilet pressure was quite low which is an issue for me because I have a stoma bag.

Good and cosy in spite of typical winter weather.

Owners very helpful when needed, and the initial "welcome" of flowers and a bottle of wine was much appreciated. Lovely walks in the area, and a railway station within a 10 minute walk was very useful after my vehicle developed a gearbox fault. Local garage was as helpful as they could be in the circumstances. The area is very much off the beaten track, which is the main part of it's appeal, but within an easy drive of all the main attractions.

This lovely apartment was perfect for a pre-Christmas break in Cumbria.

The apartment was warm and cosy, and the Christmas tree and lights added a lovely festive touch. I would definitely recommend Yew Fold to anyone looking for accommodation in the Furness area.

A Lovely clean and quiet cottage surrounded by countryside, ideal spot to explore the lake district.

We had everything we needed, and was made to feel welcome by Caroline and Paul, a reel home from home. We especially enjoyed seeing the cows out of the front window every morning at breakfast.

We had a wonderful time, it was a great property in a beautiful location.

It was very comfortable and clean. We would love to come back again in the future.

Yew Fold was a fantastic place and had everything we needed and more.The facilities were excellent with a wonderful walk in shower and bathroom and a comfortable bed.A bottle of wine was waiting for us when we arrived and Caroline and Paul were really helpful and they were on hand if we needed anything.The sofa was comfortable too and even though we were out during the day the evenings were very cosy and very relaxing.We would highly recommend staying here. We were able to park right outside the door to the cottage.All in all we had a fantastic holiday in a beautiful location.

Great property ,bed realy comfortable television great, so many channels nice and quite no road noise from passing cars in the distance no light pollution nice, and warm heating,the shower was outstanding,treat for two persons

Although the property was clean and well maintained, it’s location close to a very busy road made it noisy at times due to constant traffic and entry/exit from the road the property is situated on was somewhat precarious.

Also, when booking a holiday let in the future, we will look to find ones separate to the owners own property .

I had a lovely stay at yew fold.

I felt at home as soon as I arrived. Its so welcoming, comfortable and clean with all that is needed for a perfect stay. The cottage is ideally placed to cover a wide area which is easily accessible by car or if you fancy a train ride, the station is just a short walk away. The comfortable bed and super shower adds the the enjoyment. The outside space is lovely to sit out with a drink or eat, it is private with wonderful views. Caroline and Paul are wonderful hosts, always available if needed. The welcome text was much appreciated. A most enjoyable stay and im sure I will go back, I didn't want to leave.

Arrive, and relax! Spotless and everything you need is there. Been twice, a new favourite place for us to stay. Book ! You will be so pleased you did.

Another fantastic week at this lovely property.

Modern, clean and well equipped with super shower and comfortable bed, didn't want to leave. Lovely owners too. For those who don't like driving, the train (15 minute walk) will take you up the coast as far as Carlisle or to Barrow where you can get connections to many other places of interest. The X6 bus from Barrow (stops near the train station) will also take you to many beauty spots en-route to Kendal. Looking forward to my next visit.

It's apparent from the moment you walk in that this outstanding property has been built with love and is very well cared for.

It's immaculately clean with top quality furnishings and bedding. The kitchen is so well equipped and the use of space is inspired. Views from the windows are stunning and the little garden overlooking the fields of sheep is idyllic. The lanes around the property are so interesting to walk down and the station is very close by if you fancy a trip up the coast. The owners who live in the attached house ( sound proofing excellent as didn't hear a thing) are friendly and helpful but not intrusive. It's a beautiful part of Cumbria which we will definitely be visiting again. A personal thanks to the owners for being so accommodating. We had health issues that meant we couldn't check in on the Friday and for family reasons had to return home part way through the holiday before returning for the last 2 nights.

Yew Fold is a lovely property in a quiet location which is perfect for exploring the Furness peninsula, Cumbrian coast and the Lake District.

The apartment is very well equipped with everything needed for a comfortable stay, and is very well maintained. The hosts, Caroline and Paul, are very welcoming and helpful. I have already booked my next stay!

We had a wonderful weeks stay at Yew Fold!

The cottage was extremely clean, cosy and warm. Plenty of storage, super shower and comfortable bed. The cottage is well located to explore The Lakes. Caroline and Paul were very friendly and helpful even providing us with train information. The wine and flowers on arrival was also a lovely touch. Would highly recommend!

We have now stayed at Yew Fold three times - "enough said", but we will add a little more.

The place is spotless, warm, cosy and comfortable; it has everything you need as a couple and the rainfall shower is fab. Kirkby in Furness is in a quiet corner of the Lake District and it has a rail station which is convenient if you don't always want to use the car. Very convenient for completing the Outlying Fells, many of which are nearby.

Easily met all our expectations and we had a very comfortable stay.

Within the area we were able to walk, explore, discover parts new to us and we had a lovely relaxing time.

The garden looks different than the pictures as it has been upgraded with a bench seating area making it a little more private and looks beautiful in evening when the solar lights came on. Will definitely go back.

Perfect for a quiet weekend and good base for exploring the lakes. Perfect for couples. We took our eight month old and we couldn't have been more comfortable. Would definitely stay again.

Top spec fittings which all add to the enjoyment of the stay. Easy to reach just off a main road with some lovely walks from the door. Probably the best holiday cottage that we've ever stayed in, I can't recommend more highly.

We had a really lovely stay at Yew Tree.

We chose to stay here as we had an animal experience booked at the South Lake safari park during the week so the location was convenient for us to easily get to the park whilst not being too far for us to go exploring other sites in the Lake District. We were able to visit a few National Trust sites such as Wray Castle and Aira Force as well as some of the smaller towns like Ambleside and Coniston, all within a good distance from Yew Tree. The cottage was lovely and clean and the perfect base for us to come back to. The set up is lovely and modern and well equipped with homely amenities.

Spotless, modern, comfortable and very spacious for two. Lovely, private patio area, great hosts and stunning Cumbrian scenery without the crowds.

Lovely Cottage, lovely little village, really nice owners and only 15 minute walk to the train station.

Comfortable bed & sofa, excellent very large rainforest shower, huge TV, well equipped kitchen area, clean & modern throughout - everything you could want really. I left the car behind and took the train (Cumbrian Line) most days - you can get on & off all the way up to Carlisle with a Cumbrian Coast Day Ranger. Muncaster Castle is worth a visit, especially the Bird of Prey display & Ravenglass & Eskdale railway too.

Our second visit to Yew Fold and had a lovely week walking 5 more of Wainwright’s Outlying Fells.

The property is perfect for two, very comfortable and in a quiet location with great views. We visited Lancaster by train from the nearby station - the line runs to Carlisle too - both interesting days out. We said we’d return and we did, and have already booked again for next year!

We were made very welcome and found the cottage spotless and well-appointed.

Yew Fold was the best holiday cottage we have stayed in, and we’ve stayed in many!

It was spotlessly clean, beautifully decorated and really comfortable. The owners were friendly but not intrusive and the welcome gifts of wine and biscuits were great! The eggs that were still warm from being laid were delicious too! A massive thank you to Caroline and Paul for a wonderful base to explore the area from.

This is my second stay at YewFold for both pleasure and business, and it’s been delightful once again.

The high standard of the accommodation is second to none, with modern features, well equipped kitchen, lovely hot shower, big TV with Sky, good heating and a comfy bed you don’t really want to get out of. Wifi is good and I worked easily - looking out beautiful views. Being close to Askham, Barrow and Ulverston for everyday requirements is good and the lakes being just down the road makes YewFold an ideal place to stay. Have to add Caroline and Paul are great hosts and with their local knowledge of the area you are set for a great time at YewFold.

Lovely place to stay, all mod cons, very good spec.

We found it a bit too far south if you want to explore the lakes and are wary of winding roads, but that is just us.

Yew Fold cottage is adjacent to the owners' home and was even better than the photos' suggested.

We were welcomed by our host Caroline and the bottle of wine with a vase of fresh flowers on the table was a lovely start. The cottage was spotlessly clean everywhere with very new,modern appliances ; plenty of storage space for clothes,shoes, cases etc. and was very spacous. The kitchen area had everything we needed for our self-catering holiday with lots of cupboard space,new crockery,glassware, pots/pans etc.and a table & chairs. The lounge area was very comfortable with a large comfortable sofa and flat screen T.V etc . The decor everywhere in the cottage is lovely giving a light,airy feel and the bedroom has very good quality bedding, a comfortable bed and excellent lighting for night-time reading. The bathroom was modern with a large excellent walk-in shower and hot water available at any time of the day which was a plus factor. There is a little private garden area ( for your own private use )next to the cottage which has a table,chairs, BBQ with plenty of beautiful flowers which we used frequently as the weather during our weeks holiday was fantastic. Yew Fold is in a lovely area , near a main road which made travelling to other places on the Furness Peninsular very easy and we enjoyed the beautiful countryside, quiet beaches and the nearby Lake District. On leaving the cottage for home ,we overlooked a pair of walking boots and slippers which Caroline found and kindly packaged up and returned to us by post. We can say that our stay was excellent and would gladly recommend Yew Fold to other couples and hope to be back again in the Autumn. The only point I would make ( which is not a criticism in any way ) is that the cottage has a few steps up to the entrance door which might be difficult for anyone with mobility issues.

I booked this for my son and his fiancee for his birthday.

They both said it was so beautiful and relaxing, the cottage was beautifully furnished and so comfortable. The owners were so helpful and friendly. Would highly recommend.

Really nice cottage.

Perfect place to stay to explore the lakes,and everything provided for a relaxing holiday.Lots of National Trust properties, and places of interest, and of course nice walks nearby too.Little private garden was lovely to sit and enjoy a glass of wine and dinner at the end of the day. Owners were so friendly and thoughtful, and made sure we were OK,and made sure we had everything we needed. Would recommend this property.We will certainly return.

Yew Fold is an immaculate modern property suited for two.

It is clean, warm and comfortable in a peaceful location. The rainfall shower is amazing and is very welcoming after a long day on the fells. The setting makes it ideal for exploring many of A. Wainwright's Outlying Fells. We will be returning!

Yew Fold at Kirkby in Furness is in a superb location from which to explore the Lake District.

The accommodation was excellent, providing everything you need for an enjoyable break. Very pleasant lounge/kitchen and a comfortable bedroom and plenty of storage space. All in all excellent value.

Cottage had everything you would need. Brilliant storage area. Lovely outdoor seating area, if weather nice enough. Would highly recommend if you want to get away from it all for a few days and yes pub within walking distance, about 15mins.

The place was warm and cosy, just right to come back to after long walks. It was clean and tidy with everything available. Would certainly consider coming back if returning to the area which is very convenient for the southern lakes area. Train station not far away either.

.. it was what we needed,, peace and quiet.. The place was spotlessly clean...and a well equipped kitchen. Ideal for walking, or if you wish to travel up the coast towards ravenglass, eskdale or Muncaster the train service is excellent. A good week.

Cottage was lovely and everything we could have wished for.

Owner was very helpful and so kind. With my wife's disability the owner went out of her way to be so helpful. The cottage more than met out expectations and we can strongly recommend it. BUT Sykes Cottages have plagued me with emails about buying further holidays and persistant nagging to download Sykes apps. This is VERY annoying and it makes me very wary of using Sykes again.

Bottle of wine and beautiful roses met us on arrival. Some fresh eggs delivered mid week. Very kind. Weather was good so able to go out and about:Hoad hill with glorious views, Walley Island and lots of scenic places to visit then back to the lovely apartment with one fantastic shower! Wouldn't hesitate to recommend and I'm sure we'll be back.

The owners were very pleasant and in these difficult times our stay was a welcome break which had been postponed from last year.

The area was perfect for walking and much quieter than the main areas of Ambleside & Windermere.

Had a brilliant stay at 'Yew Fold'.

We arrived to find a bottle of wine and a couple of cakes had been left by the owners with a little note. The cottage was clean warm and comfortable. We could not find a fault with the accomodation and enjoyed our stay immensely. The description and pictures were accurate. We hope to return later in the year for some more walking. In a word, excellent accomodation and facilities .

As soon as I stepped into the cottage it was clean warm and cosy, we were greeted with wine and fudge, my partner loves fudge win.

Paul was very helpful with giving us directions to our outdoor adventure in boot, he also offered us a lock up for our bikes and paddle boards which was very conciderate of them. I will definitely be back its a home from home.

Well designed accommodation, exceptionally decorated and very comfortable throughout.

The bed was comfortable and the shower was amazing. The property was very clean. Lovely views through the large windows and excellent light throughout the day. We enjoyed seeing the hens in the garden. Excellent hosts who were very helpful but not intrusive. Location was a little bit outside the main Lake District areas, but quieter because of this. Lots of excellent drives and walks were accessible, but you need to be prepared to use your car every day. The wifi wasn't very good. Not the hosts' fault and they did everything they could to help with this. It didn't spoil our stay at all, but you should be aware of this if you need dependable, good speed wifi. Highly recommend this property.

Lovely location if you like driving, but nice to see sheep in feilds and beutiful views Not in a cottage the cottage belongs to the owners who live there you are atrached to the cottage so its like a flat but nice and clean Theres a lovely cat that pops in If you want food delivered you cant as dont deliver to that area and wifi kicks in and out There is a pub 10 min walk dont do food anymore Greyhound pub is lovely but need to drive only 5 mins in the car

Yew Fold cottage was a delightful stay and a real home from home experience.

It was well equipped, very clean, comfortable, beautifully decorated and the views from the cottage are glorious. The location was great for coastal visits and access to all the lakes. The proprietors, Caroline and Paul couldn’t be more helpful and made us feel very welcomed.

We appreciated the bottle of wine and flowers which were waiting for us on arrival . The cottage was clean to a high standard . There was extra cleaning products , hand sanitizer and toilet rolls which we were not expecting . The overall accommodation is to a high standard . Best bed we have slept in while staying in self catering accommodation. The mattress and bed linen were very comfy . During our stay we were given some freshly laid eggs which were delicious . The view from our window was fantastic . Yew Fold is a great place to stay to relax and In a good location to explore the Lake District and surrounding area . Thank you Caroline and Paul for being lovely hosts .

this was my second visit to yew fold and my first since coming out of covid lockdown.

The owners respectfully adhered to the new social distancing protocols and provided hand sanitiser etc.caroline is a lovely host and the communication between guest and host is prompt, clear and thoughtful.yew fold is a lovely place to stay in the lakes.it is not on the tourist trail and away from busy supermarkets and crowds.if you are familiar with the area this little retreat is the perfect place to relax and enjoy peace and quiet in a stylish and comfortable space.i love staying at yew fold and look forward to many more visits

Since the start of Covid 19 restrictions in March, we had not set foot in any building, other than our home.

I was therefore somewhat apprehensive about staying in someone else’s house with regards to cleanliness. We have rented cottages in the past which have been cleaner when we left then when we arrived. Of course during the current situation cleanliness is of greater importance then it would have been a few months ago. I needn’t have worried though as Yew Fold was spotless. One of the reasons we chose Yew Fold was the cleanliness mentioned by other reviewers and we were not disappointed as everything was clean and fresh. I was able to relax as soon as we arrived without feeling the need to scrub everything. The cottage is a perfect size for a couple with everything we needed and the lovely email from Caroline informed us they were only a phone call away should we have needed anything further. Kirkby in Furness gives easy access to the southern lakes and the coast, so is in an ideal situation. We shall certainly be booking Yew Fold again. Our thanks to Caroline and Paul for a lovely break away from home.

We stayed at Yew Fold between the 14th & 17th February to celebrate our first Wedding Anniversary.

We arrived late evening and was welcomed with a warm, clean cottage. Catherine popped over that evening to welcome us and gifted us with a lovely box of Kendal Mint Chocolates and to introduce herself. Although the weather wasn't the greatest we thoroughly enjoyed every moment and didn't let it dampen our spirits. There was a range of different games/books/DVD's to keep you occupied and would definitely recommend the Men v's Women's game (especially after a drink or two!). Should we decide to visit lovely Cumbria again, we would look to see if Yew Fold was available. Great stay!!

This cottage is exceptional.

We had a lovely stay in what is an immaculate and comfortable apartment at the bottom of the Lake District. Perfect for exploring the nearby area and lakes, we would highly recommend staying at Yew Fold.

We loved our stay at the Yew Fold cottage, it was perfect in every way!

So clean and modern, yet cosy and welcoming. Everything in the place seemed to be thought out to make you feel comfortable and content, with the loving touches & attention to detail! Loved the wooden floors, big walk in shower, comfortable bed, beautiful open plan living and kitchen area...The space outside with a little garden and flowers overlooking open fields was wonderful, the location ideal for Lakes, but remote and quiet. Thank you to our hosts for their warm welcome and helpful tips, it's been the best holiday experience in the UK!

Accommodation and location absolutely perfect!

Yew fold cottage is in a beautiful location and the cottage itself is wonderful.

The bathroom with its very modern walk in shower is glorious. The host caroline met me on arrival and was lovely to meet. She assured me she and her family were on hand for anything i needed at anytime but left me to enjoy my stay in peace and quiet. I hope to return for another visit sometime.

Yew fold is a beautiful, modern holiday cottage attached to the owners house.

It is warm and cosy and tastefully furnished. It is in a quiet location with lovely views of the hills. The owners were very welcoming and helpful without being intrusive. We would not hesitate to recommend this property

.excellent hosts-welcome you with a bottle of wine .the cottage itself is the best I have stayed in by far,kitchen is spot on everything you need for a long stay.the bathroom and shower especially is outstanding .the bed is the comfiest and the best sleep I have had in years ...everything about this cottage I cannot fault a thing ..living room is so cosy I honestly don't want to go home ...cottage is surrounded by lovely countryside -the best for walking ,i did so many routes ...a short drive is various villages to explore .folk are friendly .what more can anyone ask for .lovely village Kirkby in furness -its a nice 15 minute walk to the train station which run regular ,,next to the station is a lovely café called pams -occasional she has live music -local harp player/guitarist/and young girl singer ...fabulous café and friendly ladies run it ...a must to visit … i will definitely be booking yew fold cottage again in the near future ..hands up to whoever designed this cottage and fitted all the top modern furniture -something you would expect in a high class posh hotel for big money ….a star rating of 10 out of 10 i would give 10 plus for yew fold ...thankyou caroline and Andrew for letting me stay ...

I had the pleasure of staying here for a fortnight recently and can't recommend it enough.

From the lovely greeting and bottle of wine upon arrival to the extremely high standard of finish to everything here - the bed was incredibly comfortable - pillows and mattress perfect - the shower has a shower head better than any luxury hotel I've stayed at and the kitchen better equipped than my own. Everything is walking distance - two very lovely country pubs as well as the station and all the locals, as you would expect from such an area, much like the owners, are incredibly welcoming and friendly.

A warm and friendly welcome, any information we needed was promptly give. The cottage itself was lovely, clean, and comfortable. It was a great respite for a few days near the end of our UK travels. We will (and have) recommended Yew Fold as a place to stay in the Lake District.
