Byre Cottage, our 2nd visit and well worth it.

Compact but cosy, everything you need for a wonderful stay. Tina and Steve are very friendly and helpful (hope mums doing OK Tina). Beautiful views and lots to see, hope to be back again ☆☆☆☆☆

The Byre Cottage was a little gem.

Well equipped and immaculately well presented. The raised deck has stunning views. Plenty of walks and wildlife . There was a lovely welcome pack which was much appreciated.

Tina, Steve and Bertie were so welcoming and we loved the cottage - especially the stunning views of course.

We enjoyed the area - including the nature-rich and very scenic walks along the river (despite the challenge of lifting the dog over stone stiles), the shops and cafes in Alston and some stunning drives to towns further afield. What a wonderful place!

The property was very well presented with an excellent selection of pans & crockery.

The garden was well fenced in so our dogs could come & go as they wished. The owners were very pleasant & helpful & it was obvious they had thought of everything you could need Bed was comfortable & shower/ WC room was well thought out

Tina and Steve certainly make you feel very welcome and are a mine of information about places to eat and visit. The welcome pack was greatly appreciated after a long drive.The cottage is absolutely outstanding and the views breathtaking. Would definetly reccomend this cottage to anybody. We look forward to our 4th visit.

Absolutely stunning cottage in an idyllic location!

The views and beautiful trees surrounding were just 'wow'. Really welcoming and cosy like you were staying in somebody's home not just another holiday rental. Spotlessly clean and so many lovely little touches - highly recommended!

The cottage was delightful and comfortable.

The views are heavenly and we hit the amazing good weather. We found the mattress springs were evident through the outer padding. Other wise we had a wonderful 6 nights and have returned home refreshed.

We had a great holiday and would love one day to come back and stay. Unfortunately for us it’s such a long way from Sussex. The cottage is in a beautiful location.

It is ideal for those wishing for a hide away, but still enjoy home comforts. The owners are very friendly and helpful, but also did not impose. It was the perfect balance, we are already considered a return visit.

Cosy,comfy and clean.Amazing setting, quite remote,Alston about 3 miles away provided most of our everyday needs.Such a shame the Garrigill local pub had closed,but there is hope it will reopen. Lovely couple and their dog gave us a warm welcome.We had a lovely week.Thank you.

Comfortable cottage with everything you need.

Great view over the valley and very peaceful. Lots of wildlife running around, pheasants, rabbits and a red squirrel. Very relaxed holiday with our dog, and close to various interesting walks, either across the hills or around the reservoirs.

Loved this little cottage.

It's warm, cosy and well situated for walks from the door, if you're fit enough to face the walk back up the hill. It has everything you need, and the gated garden was a bonus for my dog. The owners were lovely, there if needed but unobtrusive. Loved watching the rabbits and birds but didn't manage to see the resident red squirrel. Maybe next time!

A cosy cottage in a lovely setting.

It is an excellent base for local walks. Friendly but non intrusive hosts. We thoroughly enjoyed our one week stay and would recommend to others visiting the area.

!! Our second stay at this absolutely fabulous cottage. Steve and Tina really do go above and beyond to make sure you have the best holiday, nothing is too much trouble.The welcome pack is fantastic, treats for us humans including eggs from their rare breed hens and treats for the dogs, very welcome after a long journey. The views are amazing and the cottage was exceptionally clean with everything you could ever ask for. We have already booked for our 3rd visit next year so I would highly recommend giving this cottage a visit.

The property was lovely.

Extremely clean and had electronic cellent views and the garden very much appreciated by the dogs. The welcome pack was also a very kind gesture and very welcome. I would just say you need yo update your directions as the pub listed George and Dragon, is no more and has no sign up so not a landmark to go from. Also to be aware bed to eat out during the day as many establishments were shut most of the week and only open weekends. Other than that we enjoyed our stay.

Small but perfect for two people with excellent views and a fenced off garden for your dogs.

Owners live next door so any problems they are happy to fix. Alston village about four miles away where you can get supplies. If you are a motorcyclist there some very good twisty roads with little traffic.

The cottage is superb!

It is cosy, compact, well equipped and a perfect size for two. Steve & Tina great hosts, available if needed. The views amazing, looking out of the side window was like a different world! Lambs, sheep and rabbits in the fields! Didn’t get to see any Red Squirrels but saw lots of different birds. Would definitely recommend this cottage and hope to stay again! Many thanks

A beautiful spot for a week away, the surrounding scenery was breath taking.

The Cottage was perfect, everything that you needed was there including fresh milk and free range eggs on arrival. The property was beautifully decorated, well presented, cosy and very comfortable. We had a really good time, this being an ideal place to use as a base for exploring more of Cumbria. We will be booking again for ourselves and the doggies very soon.

A beautiful little cottage in an idyllic location.

Plenty of walks from our doorstep or a world of stunning scenery just a short drive away. The fixtures and fittings were all top notch and the cottage was warm and spotlessly clean. The views are incredible and the garden was secure for our two dogs. We appreciated the welcome gifts and the fact that Tina and Steve were available but not at all intrusive. We wouldn't hesitate to return and I'd give this lovely cottage more than 5 stars if I could ☺️

A beautiful cottage set in stunning scenery.

I t had everything we needed and was very comfortable. Our two dogs enjoyed the garden and which was safe and secure. I have no hesitation in recommending this lovely cottage.

Very cosy well equipped secluded cottage with stunning views of the Northern Pennines countryside.

My stay was in early December but the central heating was spot on. Easy to find from directions and owners Tina and Steve live close by and were always available. One thing to bear in mind is that the bathroom is downstairs but that is a very minor (in)convenience. Well recommended. Easy travelling to either Ullswater, Hadrian's Wall or Teesdale and almost on the Pennine Way. Finally the small market town of Alston is just a few minutes away with a Co op and Spar food shops and petrol station. Well recommended if you wish to get away from it all. .

We love it. Cottage is well maintained, clean, cosy and warm. Dog-friendly fully secure garden. Stunning location, perfect if you want to be away from most things!

An idyllic location, peaceful and serene surroundings the perfect getaway for anyone wanting a reset.

The landscape is stunning and I particularly loved sitting on the veranda to appreciate the dramatic and changing skies. The cottage was lovely warm and cosy it was just perfect for me and my reactive dog, we had long peaceful walks in the area, absolutely loved it all round.

If you want to get away from it all you could not find a more cozy cottage. . Go prepared with all the provisions you need and prepare to hunker down in a stunning spot ! It is immaculate and everything has been provided . The comments in the visitors book are testimony to the fact that 100% of guests, since day 1, are happy and complimentary .If you want some peace and quiet , you will love it !

An absolute outstanding cottage, everything you need is provided and the owners have gone above and beyond to make sure you have a wonderful stay.

The cottage was spotless and we were left a welcome pack, even treats for our dogs which was very much appreciated.The views are stunning and it felt as though we were in a world of our own. This has to be the best cottage we have stayed in and we will certainly be going back.

If all the cottages we have visited over the years had been as stunning as this one there wouldn't be a need for reviews. Tina and Steve have excellent standards with cleanliness and presentation and attention to detail. Together with the location and wonderful views it made for a very enjoyable holiday.

Stunning views, outstanding cottage, and a warm welcome. I shall visit here again in the very near future.

What a beautiful place to stay, cosy , comfortable, very clean, everything there you need for a fantastic stay, the lovely smell of the cottage when you first open the door ( you would never know that dogs had been staying there previously), the views of the scenery are breathtaking, local people very friendly, the cottage owners Tina and Steve are a nice couple they can’t do enough for you, but they don’t intrude on your stay, the eggs from their rare breed chickens are lovely, the only thing we thought was a down point is that the village did not have a pub or place to go and eat, you had to go 4 mile in to Alston to find a couple of places to eat but you definitely need the use of a car as there are no local buses or taxis, we had some lovely walks down along the river and some nice days in Penrith and Lake Windermere.

Such a superb cottage, with everything you need for a stay.

Lovely touches such as the small slow cooker and welcome pack, including their own chicken eggs. The views from the cottage are outstanding as is the local wildlife. We enjoyed barn owl watching in the evenings. We spotted the hedgehogs and squirrel. Linda and Steve are fantastic hosts, keen to ensure your every need is met. It was a lovely relaxing haven, we enjoyed it so much we have already booked for next year!

Everything was perfect.

We were given a warm welcome on arriving together with a very generous welcome pack. The cottage was in pristine condition inside and out. In fact it felt like we were the first people to use the accommodation. The view from the lounge was beautiful. Such a peaceful place to watch the wild life and especially the red squirrels. We would highly recommend this property.

Byre cottage is absolutely lovely modern decor ,very comfortable bed the cottage was very clean every thing you need for a holiday stay , plenty of towels & the views were stunning there was a red squirrel that came most days to the tree out side the cottage as there was a little box with nuts in for it ,we meet the owners Steve & Tina they were lovely & helpful if we needed anything ,there was a lovely deck area with a small table & chairs to sit & take in the views except it did rain a lot while we were there but still we had a lovely holiday very peaceful & a good rest ,the cottage looks smaller on the out side than in it's a good size for 1 bed cottage & my 2 dogs loved it we had fresh eggs from the owners chicken's which were lovely for breakfast there wasn't any thing not to like about Byre cottage .

We already have our 8th booked. Anyone who is looking for a quiet peaceful break with absolutely fantastic views then this is the place for you. There are loads of lovely walks from the door. The local pubs in Alston serve good reasonably priced food. You can also get all your shopping needs in the Spar at Alston. The owners are on hand if you need them and are an extremely nice couple. Stayed for 1 week in May with my lovely wife and our little dog Nancy.

Perfect tranquil setting with lovely walks on hand.Seeing the birds and the lambs out daily is so relaxing.The balcony attached to the cottage is a nice touch.The hosts live next door which is great for any issues,lovely welcome goodies and a very informative welcome brochure.Spotless throughout and well equipped.We see now why it is always full and plenty of revisits.The whole food shop in Alston is recommended for all quality food lovers.Excellent owner and great cheeses.Cannot recommend the property any more highly.well done to Steve and Tina.We shall return.

On arrival at Byre Cottage it was very warm and welcoming on a blustery autumn day.

The cottage is very clean and well equipped and the views are wonderful. We received a welcome of biscuits and eggs which were much appreciated - and Tina and Steve the owners couldn't have been more helpful, though not intrusive. This is a great base to get out into the surrounding countryside and towns and villages - we visited a different cafe each day and all were great quality plus very dog friendly which our 2 chocolate labradors enjoyed. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend Byre Cottage.

After travelling from the midlands we arrived at this lovely little cottage.

Upon arrival we were made welcome, Steve and Tina greeted us and told us about the area and property. The cottage is lovely, very cosey with outstanding views across the valley. The cottage has everything you need for 2 people to stay. Well equipped and comfortable. If you are lucky like ourselves you will see the red squirrel most morning collecting nuts from the holders around the property. Can’t fault this lovely little cottage and it’s owners. Easy driving distance to attractions like beamish.

My wife, myself and our 2 dogs have just had an incredible week in Byre cottage.

It was exactly what we needed. It was extremely tranquil with amazing views from the windows and decking area. The cottage itself is very clean, comfortable and well set out. The owners of the cottage live next-door and are very approachable and friendly and we're there if we needed anything. If you are looking for a quiet and peaceful break away from it all Byre cottage is a must. It's a 10 out of 10 from us.

Red squirrel watching from the deck was a bonus.

Well what can I say due to covid I had this holiday booked and postponed twice ,as we had stayed there previously I booked as soon as we arrived home and was determined to return.

we had yet another fabulous week with Tina and Steve and their lovely dog bubba,the cottage was spotless and the welcome pack was lovely once again.we saw the red squirrels on the tree outside and also a young spotted woodpecker when we went into alston we saw a gorgeous siberian goshawk on a man's arm added bonus to our holiday.i also met Lisa Riley ( many dingle from emmerdale) as she came overto stroke and hug our siberian husky.the night before we left we saw an owl on the fence around the decking ,the perfect end to the perfect week.already booked in for next April.

Ruby, my dog, and I were made very welcome. Ruby enjoyed her doggie treats in the Welcome Pack and I thought the eggs laid by the owners chickens were fab. The Cottage had everything that we needed. Would highly recommend this property

The owners are lovely people and couldn't do enough for us.

They even provided us with a bottle of wine, chocolates, doggy treats, a box of their own eggs and milk on our arrival. That and the lovely cottage, with its spectacular views, made this a memorable week's holiday. We shall, definitely, return in the future. It was our puppy's first holiday and he was also made very welcome and we were given a lovely welcome pack which included treats for humans and dogs. A lovely cottage in a beautiful setting.

What an absolute treasure.

The cottage is immaculate with everything you could ask for and more. Beautifully done out to the highest spec. The owners are amazing people who were just so wonderful nothing is too much for them. We were overwhelmed by their kindness and generosity. If you get the opportunity to stay here don't pass it up you will love it too!!

We love this cottage and it is ideal for local walks and getting into the real wild.

It's not for everyone but if love the Pennines you will enjoy this cottage. It is lovingly looked after by the ownwers who keep it spotless, comfortable and most welcoming.

The cottage was spotless, has the most amazing views and was so cosy to return to at the end of a day exploring.

There were lot's of lovely walks nearby to enjoy and the owners were very friendly, leaving treats for both us and our dog. We will definitely be returning.

Enclosed garden for our two small dogs was a bonus. Wouldn’t hesitate to recommend.

Tina and Steve were very welcome and helpful.

All COVID measures were in place which didn’t detract from our expectations. The cottage was extremely comfortable and the soft furnishings were attractive. We were met with a lovely welcome pack and the dog was included with goodies for him. Enclosed garden and patio which was such a relief for us as we knew the dog was safe as well as the neighbouring sheep. Plenty of walks nearby, with beautiful panoramic views. So relaxing to have a meal gazing out at the views.

5 star on all counts, you don’t find properties like this very often the views have to be seen to be believed.

On arrival we were amazed at the idillic location of the cottage.

Lots of dog walks from the front door, an hours drive to keswick! Amazing. The cottage was very clean, tidy and well cared for. We loved our surprise treats when we arrived, some doggy treats, bottle of wine and some free range eggs from the owners own chickens! Will definitely return, hopefully later this year

My husband and I, together with our 2 border terriers stayed at Byre Cottage from 9th to 15th November.

We were welcomed with luxury treats for both ourselves and the dogs, which were much appreciated. The cottage is situated in an excellent location with outstanding views all around. Many local walks are quite literally on the doorstep. The cottage itself was very well equipped, immaculately clean and decorated to a high standard. In fact it was so perfect, we didn't want to leave! We would most definitely recommend to friends and family and would love to go back again.

Five stars on all counts, great location, very private detached property set back at the end of a private lane, enclosed lawned garden, large deck, owners next door if you need them and very friendly and helpful, fabulous views, clean and well furnished, warm, cozy, great kitchen and bathroom, spacious bedroom, large comfy bed, smart TV with strong wifi.

The cottage was so cosy and comfortable.

We felt at home instantly. There was treats for us and the dog. I loved the fact that they thought of all sorts of little bits, even a pet first aid kit - luckily didn’t need this tho! The surroundings were beautiful and we never tired of the views. There was lots of nature around the cottage, owls, rabbits, sheep and pheasants. We had lovely walks and would really recommend the cottage for a lovely peaceful and relaxing break. Thank you for a lovely rest

We have been renting holiday cottages for the last 35 years this is the cleanest and most comfortable cottage we have ever stayed in.

The views are incredible, High Force Waterfall a must to see. Barnard Castle market town well worth a visit. We were given a lovely welcome from Tina and Steve, we drove 326 miles and during a conversation found out Steve and Tina used to live in our area and Steve used to work with our brother- in- law, what a small world! this cottage was one of the best we have been to.

the weather was good and the hosts were very welcoming. very good value for the holiday . had a little trouble at the start as could not fine property but a quick call to owners and problem solved.

We had a lovely welcome from tina and steve the thoughtful treats were very unexpected especially for frank the dog the free range eggs were lovely and the named hens who had laid them were touching and they are much loved and part of the family the safe area for frank the dog to play in was very reassuring so peaceful and quiet the views fantastic and a lovely haven for getting away from it all we will stay again perfect thank you shirley steven johnson

The cottage was beautiful and absolutely spotless.

The hosts are the nicest people I haven't met! They were next door if we needed them and contact details were supplied but they avoided the awkward check in by leaving us the key and a lovely welcome package and it was really nice after a long drive to let ourselves in and relax. Perfect for a couple or anyone wanting a break, it's so secluded I don't think I spoke to anyone but my boyfriend in 48 hours! We've already recommended to family and will definitely be back.

The cottage was lovely and clean and had everything you needed except a coffee table and maybe an extra comfy chair as the small settee was uncomfortable for two.

on arrival there was welcome goodies for us and the dogs which was much appreciated. The views were amazing and we thought we could walk for miles however most walks start with a stile, these are obstacles for old or large dogs and impossible to access.

What a little treasure in the countryside this is.

Owners were so friendly and the welcome pack was nice which included easter eggs for our visit ,fresh chicken eggs, wine and milk. The views from the cottage are stunning and something you will never tire of.

The cottage was stunning, beautiful interior design all done by Tina. Our welcome pack was great and included treats for our dogs. Beautiful lambs in the field right outside our cottage,rabbits, pheasants and even a black grouse. Already booked in next year, can't wait. A peaceful and relaxing holiday had by us and the dogs.

The owners live very close by and were welcoming and happy to help.

The extras provided such as treats for dogs and ourselves and things like towels for the dogs if needed. The cottage was very well equiped with quality fixtures and fittings. Extras such as books, games and Bluerays were much apprieciated. The views were stunning as were opportunities for watching birds and animals from inside and outside.

Welcome pack is a lovely touch, eggs are lovely. Have now booked again. Instructions to get there is misleading but the locals are really friendly to ask.

The cottage was in a lovely position overlooking the village of Garrigill and the surrounding hills.

A beautiful cottage - clean, cosy and well equipped with fabulous views of the countryside.

Owners are very friendly and helpful. We arrived in dreadful weather conditions to treats not only for us but for the dogs too which were much appreciated! Garrigal is a small village just right if you are looking forward to peace and quiet. Would highly recommend this cottage and look forward to a return visit in the future.

very nice and friendly owners. soon had the wifi sorted. My dog Bailey loved the walks. You get a very good welcome at the George and Dragon pub .thank you will be back.

The accomodation was superb but just two points I would mention.

The online information did not indicate that the owners house was so close alongside, they were very nice however and to say that there is Wi-Fi is a little misleading as it was more off than on.
