Description

In a countryside setting only 10 minutes drive from Bowness and Lake Windermere, the historic Starnthwaite Ghyll mill house has been tastefully converted into a special complex of character cottages.

Full of rural charm with its open plan living, dining & country kitchen area, upstairs to charming bedrooms and family bathroom with shower over bath.

The main gardens are idyllic, and the private furnished patio is perfect for al fresco dining or just relaxing for a doze.

Delightfully off the beaten track, Gilpin View is one of a row of four attractive cottages overlooking the stream and the orchard to the lush Lyth Valley, close to Crosthwaite village, renowned for peaceful country lanes, orchards and the famous damson harvest.

Your local is the award-winning Punchbowl Inn (1.5m away) next to a delightful old church.

A 15 minute drive takes you past the Windermere Golf Club to bustling Bowness village on Lake Windermere's eastern shore, where you'll find sophisticated shops, endless boating activities, Lake District family attractions such as the World of Beatrix Potter, and a range of options for evening entertainment.

From traditional Lakeland pubs to trendy tapas bars, cinema, theatre and nightclub, there's something for every taste.

From Bowness Bay, you can hop on a Windermere Lake Cruise to Ambleside or Lakeside - a great way to explore while soaking up the scenery.

If you'd prefer to explore the wider Lake District by car, perhaps to seek out walking routes, the A591 leads easily from Windermere village to Ambleside, Rydal Water, historic Grasmere and beyond.

Lovely little cottage in a beautiful location.

The sound of the river to send you to sleep was lovely and the rural setting was idyllic. Our stay was great. A good location to explore the lakes from and the house had all acquired amenities and plenty of downstairs space. The property had rustic charm, but felt a little rough around the edges - just needs a refresh of paint. Overall a lovely location and would definitely stay again.

Lovely location furniture inside a little dated but suitable.

Advertise as pet friendly however notices around accommodation proves this as false as not allowed to leave pet in property at any time not allowed upstairs or on any furniture .6 notices scattered around the property on no pets allowed upstairs,on furniture or left alone in property why advertise pet friendly for this property?annoying especially when nothing to tell you how to use washing machine, oven etc in property which is important.

We spent four nights at Gilpin View.

We loved the location, with quiet countryside surroundings while still being close to Lake District attractions. Note that Gilpin View is one of many cottages in this location. The Gilpin stream runs right under the cottage, so the sound of running water was lovely. The kitchen was adequately equipped, and the furniture was older but comfortable. The double bedroom is wonderful, though the twin room has no window that can be opened, so it can get stuffy. The washroom and shower were great. We gave the cleanliness a lower rating because we found a mouse rustling in one of our backpacks, and there were mouse droppings under the kitchen bin and also, on our last night, on one of the twin beds and in one of our suitcases in that room. We escorted the mouse outside, but you may want to check how they are getting in. Otherwise, a very lovely stay.
