Description

Fisherbeck Farm Cottage is a detached character property located in Ambleside, at the heart of the Lake District National Park. Ideal for couples, families or friends seeking a tranquil yet central base, its unique appeal lies in its harmonious blend of tranquillity and accessibility—just a short stroll from both the vibrant village centre and the shores of Lake Windermere. Approaching the cottage, you’re welcomed by its appealing grey stone exterior, with ivy trailing across parts of the wall, adding a touch of natural charm. Step inside to begin your journey through a thoughtfully arranged interior, starting with the utility area, where a basin and washing machine offer practical convenience for freshening up after a day on the fells.

Continue into the sitting room, where plush leather sofas invite you to sink in and unwind. The space is rich in character, with exposed oak beams and restored sash windows that echo the cottage’s Lakeland heritage. Whether you’re enjoying a quiet evening or simply taking in the peaceful surroundings, the room offers a stylish and polished retreat. The open-plan kitchen/diner is designed for both function and flair. Sleek grey fixtures and stylish hanging lights over the dining table create a welcoming atmosphere for shared meals. A leather sofa and TV provide a relaxed corner for lounging while dinner simmers. The layout encourages easy movement and conversation, making it a natural gathering point. Freshen up in the well-appointed bathrooms, where comfort and polish meet in every detail. Upstairs, the bedrooms offer a restful escape. The king-size room features a Velux window that bathes the space in natural light and an en-suite for added privacy and ease. Step outside into the large garden, a peaceful extension of the home. A tiled patio area with table and chairs is perfect for a morning coffee, surrounded by greenery and village views. A second, larger patio invites alfresco dining, while the lawn area is dotted with potted plants, adding colour and charm to this appealing outdoor space. Ambleside offers a wealth of attractions and activities to enrich your stay. From the doorstep, scenic walks lead to Wansfell, Jenkins Crag, Todd Crag and Loughrigg Fell, with more adventurous routes stretching towards Rydal and the Fairfield Horseshoe. Take a lake cruise from Waterhead or explore England’s largest lake with paddleboarding, kayaking or sailing. Discover local heritage at the iconic Bridge House, a 17th-century landmark perched over Stock Beck, or delve into literary history at Rydal Mount, once home to William Wordsworth. The Armitt Museum and Library offers insights into the town’s cultural legacy, including connections to Beatrix Potter and John Ruskin. Nearby, Stock Ghyll Force waterfall and the Roman fort at Borrans Park provide natural and historical interest. For those seeking adventure, guided walking tours, 4x4 lake excursions and full-day scenic drives are available, while Ambleside’s centre offers everything from fine dining and art galleries to outdoor gear shops and cosy cafés. With its central location, stylish interiors and access to the national park’s finest trails, Fisherbeck Farm Cottage is perfectly placed for exploring the Lake District on foot or by boat.

This is a wonderful holiday home and was spacious enough for an extended family staying.

Facilities were great, washing machine, dishwasher and kitchen well equipped for cooking. The house was lovely and warm and beds comfortable. We enjoyed the games and they kept our son busy. There is a great view towards the mountains and a nice patio area outside. Outside area not gated though. Quiet area of town but only 5 minute walk to the shops. Drive was big enough for two cars. Only issues we had were the shower screen on the bath not moving making it awkward to turn the taps on, and dog hairs downstairs. Overall we had a great stay here

This was our second stay at Fisherbeck Farm Cottage and once again we found it a really enjoyable stay.

Plenty of space for 6 adults, 1 grandchild and 2 dogs. Everything we needed was there and it is ideal for a base in Ambleside and the Lakes.

We've stayed at Fisherbeck Farm cottage before but on this occasion it wasn't as well cleaned as previously.

Still an enjoyable stay but more attention needed to cleaning.
