Description

Boasting plenty of charm and character, this stone-built cottage is thought to be one of the oldest cottages in Ambleside, perfectly situated for enjoying all the facilities that this town has to offer.

Delightfully presented throughout with a mix of traditional character features, Lowfold Cottage is a rustic hideaway making for a charming base for friends and family keen to stay at the heart of the Lake District.

As you enter the cottage you will immediately sense the traditional feel of the cottage, enhanced through the exposed beams, sash windows and original flagged flooring.

Spend your evenings relaxing in the sitting area, home to an arrangement of sofas, a woodburning stove and a TV for entertainment.

Behind this snug setup is the quality fitted kitchen, appointed with a selection of integrated appliances and ample worktop space to prepare your meals, in addition to an elegant oak dining table for mealtimes.

The upstairs of this Ambleside property hosts three bedrooms, one double, one twin and one single (suitable for a child only), all of which have interesting rooflines being built in the roof space.

Completing the interior is the light and airy family bathroom with feature stone wall, bath and separate walk-in shower.

Step outside to the attractive patio and enjoy a drink or alfresco meal one evening.

With Ambleside’s bustling town centre just a short stroll away you will be well placed to enjoy all the village facilities, with a range of independent shops, restaurants and pubs and attractions such as the World of Beatrix Potter.

For those looking for walking routes, Helm Crag, Loughrigg Fell, the Fairfield Horseshoe and Wansfell are all easily reached.

Hop on the Windermere steamer and enjoy a 1-hour circular route with unbroken views of mountain scenery, secluded bays and many wooded islands.

Explore the extensive grounds of Wray Castle, a mock-Gothic castle which has a huge, largely undiscovered gravel beach of its own, and was Beatrix Potter’s first Lakeland holiday home at the age of 16. Slightly further afield, in picturesque scenery, is Grasmere with the lake, along with Keswick, Coniston and Hawkshead to name a few.

Guests are certain to return home inspired and refreshed after a busy holiday at Lowfold Cottage, a charming Lake District cottage in Ambleside.

Unfortunately we woke up one morning with no hot water (can't be helped these things happen).

One phone call and sorted by the time we came back in the afternoon. Well done. Comfort only 3 not a 4 because I like a firm bed but can't please everyone.

Brilliant location with easy parking for our car right outside.

Easy walk to town or (as we prefer) out the door up onto Wansfel, or a stroll through the woods to Troutbeck and back. Just as easy to go to the lake shore or to boats if wanted. We had a very wet time weather wise but the cottage was warm (underfloor heating fab downstairs - nice to have warm feet on a stone floor) and the downstairs loo/washer was good drying space for a lot of wet socks. Loved the hot shower and always a hot bath, good bathroom (mind your head!). A little tired in places decor wise, little things like blinds not working, but honestly it ticked all the required boxes for a lakeland stay for an outdoorsy family plus dog. Really good.

Super break at Lowfold Cottage - excellently located.

We didn't move the car for the week and explored near and far by foot, boat and bus. Handy to have the office round the corner for any issues (just one or two things missing in the kitchen) and response was quick and helpful. Cottage is as described - could do with an update here and there, but worked brilliantly for our needs and we'd return.
