As we wrote in the guest book, this cottage was an amazing find, which we booked last minute, to do some walking from my very favourite village in the Lake District.

I already checked if it was available for us for New Year, but not surprisingly, the whole of the festive season is booked! It is so lovely. The decor is wonderful, especially if you appreciate beautiful fabrics, and nice art work. The warmth, the beds and facilities make for a very comfortable stay.So nice to read about the restoration and see the photos. Now for some practicalities ….not complaints, just observations. The handrail is loose at the bottom of the stairs. The light above the main bedroom mirror is not working. We missed having a sieve for straining rice. The metal colander wasn’t quite right for all purposes. The small knife from the block is missing. A couple of the bowls are chipped. Extra crockery( bowls) and some lidded Pyrex type dishes would be useful. Under list of facilities on your website for Poppy Cottage,it would be useful to know, to bring - Washing machine gel Kitchen roll( none on the holder) Foil. We replaced the clock battery with the spare AA in the drawer, so this needs replacing. Pillows were hard. Feather ones would have made sleep perfect!

An exceptionally good holiday cottage in a fantastic location.

We have previously stayed at Beck Steps 1 but changed to Poppies for more space and a much more comfortable ground floor. It was so nice to come "home" to Poppies to find hot water, good showers, warmth ( late September weather) very comfortable sofas and beautifully kept decor. We appreciated the quality of the fittings and art work and have every intention of returning next year.
