Swallows Nest Cottage

We had a wonderful 4 nights at Swallows Nest Cottage.

The most wonderful thing about this property is the location. You are literally minutes walk from the centre of the gorgeous village of Hawkshead. We really enjoyed spending time in the village and eating out and having drinks in the wonderful pubs! There are also many walks you can do right from the door, we did Latterbarrow, would recommend. You are also so close to to all the lakes has to offer and all the fell walks. The accommodation was clean and the kitchen although small is very up to date. The bedrooms are a good size and the sofas are comfortable. May I suggest some coasters or a small table in the lounge area to place drinks on, a mirror in the twin room and a new overhead lampshade in the lounge. We had an umbrella, as it is the Lakes! however a large umbrella would also be good for those who may have been caught out. The 2 parking spaces at the rear of the property is also a big plus. Just to note, there is no enclosed garden or garden at all for your furry friend, so we had to always have him on a lead to let him out and take him down the road a bit. Overall, a really enjoyable stay and would recommend to others.

The property is ideally situated in hawkshead with the bonus of a private parking space.

We found the living area comfortable and cosy with the ability to turn up the heating with the weather being a little chilly during our stay. Our only issue was the tv as there was no working aerial so channels had to be accessed via the apps but once our son explained things to us it was fine apart from some buffering during programmes.Our only other issue was the shower that sometimes went from hot to cold but it certainly woke us up when it did. We found hawkshead to be a friendly village with walks from the door and lovely food and drink in the kings and red lion.

Great location. Disappointed that not decorated for Xmas as all properties nearby were. Whenever we have stayed elsewhere over NY then Xmas decorations have featured. Kitchen does need a deeper clean and some of the cutlery was tarnished and dirty. However happy overall with property and location

This was our second visit to this cottage & will probably not book again.

We arrived on a cold wet December evening to find the cottage hadn’t been cleaned from the previous occupants. The cottage was cold, the beds were unmade & dirty towels were left in the bathroom. After phone calls a lady arrived about an hour later to clean up for us. The heating was set to 9 degrees in December & no clear instructions on how to use the Nest control! The information in the file needs updating & we were disappointed that the cottage did not have any Christmas decorations! Despite several emails to Lakelovers (Sykes) we have had no response or apology. A dissatisfied customer.

Our second visit to Swallows Nest this year so we must like it.

Beds are comfy with bedside lights. Kitchen is well equipped (a sieve would be welcome addition). Heating is easy to adjust on chilly evenings. A full length mirror might be welcome addition but by no means essential. A delightful comfy cottage, no ifs or buts, hope to go again next year.

Fantastic cottage, with everything you could possible need for your stay.

Lovely shower and bath, comfy beds, fabulous kitchen and nice living room. Extremely clean and cozy and within minutes walk of village centre. Ample parking for 2 cars at rear of property. Really was, like a home from home. I would highly recommend this property and would definitely stay again. 5*.

We were absolutely delighted with the cottage and it is much bigger than the photos suggest!

Lots of space with the downstairs being open plan which was so handy and suited our needs very well. Upstairs the bedrooms are also a brilliant size and bathroom light and airy. The only things I think that could be improved would be some blackout blinds or curtains in the bedrooms as they did get very light super early in the morning. And finally a little welcome pack of some coffee, tea, sugar, biscuits etc would have been a nice touch. We did appreciate the pack of cleaning items that were provided though including the cloths, dishwasher tablets and bin bags. This was really helpful. I would definitely rebook the cottage next time we are heading to the Lake District, really fab accommodation. Thank you for a great stay!

Generally the property was ok .

Would benefit from a coat of paint doors very random and seemed to all need a coat of paint. Sitting out area disappointing and garden furniture poor quality. In the description felt it would be a nicer sitting out area . Good location.

Beautiful cottage and a fab location.

We had a super week. We cooked a few times and had everything we needed but there are lovely places to eat out. Comfortable furniture although we swapped the sofa and chairs round for the week so we could sit together! Will be booking to come back next year

Swallows Nest is a delightful holiday cottage.

It is good to look at, nicely decorated, well equipped and comfortable. In addition I noticed two things sometimes lacking in other holiday homes - it has useful mirrors and adequate bedside lights. Hawkshead village is lovely and the cottage is so close to all the amenities along with its own parking area it could not be better.

A decent property in a great location with access to amenities and some decent walking trails.

We had an overall wonderful experience during our long weekend stay. The property has all the essentials and well equipped kitchen if you want to cook. The parking at the back is reasonable except that the road is a cul de sac and can be tight for turns at times.

Nice cottage, loved the view.

Liked that it was back from the road, nice quiet area, comfortable stay, would happily stay again. Only issue was back door threshold needs attention, the threshold bar is loose and causing the door to stick and had difficulty in getting the door closed.

This is the third time I’ve stayed at Swallow’s Nest, this time with a friend.

We didn’t want to eat out but found the kitchen could have been better equipped for even basic cooking. Other than that, it remains a lovely, comfortable cottage in a very convenient location.

Another wonderful stay.

We love staying at Seallows Nest. The cottage has everything you need and more when returning from a long day walking. Hawkshead is beautiful, The Red Lion pubs has amazing staff and wonderful food, our dogs were made very welcome. We will see you all again in November and are currently work out dates when we can come back before.

What a wonderful find!

We booked a last minute break at Swallows Nest and it was the perfect place to relax and enjoy the Lakes. Nestled in a quiet cul de sac right behind Hawkshead village two minutes walk from all the shop, pubs and restaurants it’s an ideal location. The cottage itself is gorgeous, it has a great open plan living dining and kitchen space downstairs which was clean, warm and modern. Plenty of space for 4 adults and a small dog. Shower was hot and powerful, beds were a little hard but still slept well. We got out to Bowneas on Windermere via the lake ferry, Ambleside and did the Elterwater circular walk. There are also beautiful walks directly from the cottage. I wouldn’t hesitate to book here again.

Lovely cottage with comfortable beds and lounge furniture.

Well equipped kitchen and a real treat to have a dishwasher. All very clean. Just some niggles that need sorting: light bulb replacement on landing, hanging space in double bedroom, more than one toilet roll, kitchen roll and tin foil supplies and a small welcome pack would all be expected for the price of this property. It was freezing on our arrival and we would have expected the heating to be on before check in time. We would still book again and recommend if these points are rectified.

We have just spent a wonderful 2 weeks at Swallows Next and had a fantastic time.

The weather was extremely kind for the kind of year and the location of the cottage is amazing. There are so many walks on your doorstep without having to use the car. The Cottage was as described, clean and tidy. I believe the owners are new and are doing a great job. We stay in The Lakes multiple times a year and will be booking again for next year. This cottage will be our go to now. The only niggle we had was the bedding needs to be updated as it appears to be quite old and tatty. We nipped to TKmaxx and bought new. the outside needs a bit of a tidy up also as the green moss is quite slippy. Lakelovers, you need to advise owners of thing like this, if they are not aware, they cannot resolve. Thank you for letting us stay, we will be back all being well, March, June, November and possible December.

Lovely cosy cottage with comfy beds and sofa.

Very clean and extremely well situated as only a 3 minute walk to Hawkshead village and all amenities which include 2 nice pubs for evening meals. Only a couple of small criticisms in that the kettle needs replacing as the lid wouldn’t stay shut and there is no welcome pack which was a little disappointing.

Everything was great apart from the power shower didn’t work.

We found the cottage very cosy and relaxing.

We loved the comfortable sofa, beds, fluffy towels and entertainment (TV, games, books). The location was excellent. We would have appreciated somewhere to hang/fold our clothes. There were only tiny drawers in a bedside table in the twin room (shared with my 12 yr old). The key to the property was at the back of the house, not the front door as stated, which was confusing initially. Apart from those minor issues we had a lovely time.

The location of this property was perfect for me, right in the heart of Hawkshead but set in a quiet courtyard.

The information given regarding key collection was misleading: they keybox is at the back door rather than the front door. I would have appreciated instructions on how to work the heating - I didn’t need it on this week since it was warm and sunny, but I would need to know how to work it if I returned later in the year. The kitchen was well stocked and the house was clean, tidy and comfortable. A couple of garden chairs would be good for warm days, but there is an (uncomfortable) picnic bench if you’re desperate!

A comfortable warm cottage, well situated.

However there are no wardrobes & no hanging space in bedrooms. It would be helpful to have instructions for heating and other items, eg microwave etc.
